FAQ — Questions
Couple kinda random questions.
1. What are the rules around disabilities and what disabilities you can have? Like could a character be blind? Or would that be healed upon reaching Hogwarts? Also could you have a mute character? Would they be able to do any magic? Would you have to wait for them to be able to get the nonverbal magic ability?
2. What kind of things require discord accounts? Would a planning committee reward require you to have a discord account to do it?

Second one however is fairly simple, you need a discord account for moderator roles like Any sports moderator since we do all rolls on the disc server. Same with other staff roles that go beyond moderating sports.
However if you're asking about Ball planners? you need not have one. The current ball also had one planner not on discord and things went well. It is not a necessity. (i'd still ask you to consider joining, it's a fun place to hangout for a bit in your day and see every character's writer outside of their writing. There's also cute pets people share occasionally.)

They can actually be used! They aren't specific forums, though. You would simply pick the closest location to your secret passage!Sabrina Lyons wrote: 29 Dec 2024, 17:11ReducioThanks! And who said anything about the lake- maybe I just want to take a cold shower and stay warm in the same time.Gargamel Starwise wrote: 27 Dec 2024, 13:50Yes. You shall be warm and soaking wet.Sabrina Lyons wrote: 27 Dec 2024, 07:39 This one is a bit random but - would the Robe of warmth work in cold water? Like sure, it would be soaked afterwards but would it keep me warm even when in that state? If not, is there a way to keep one warm in water?
And very likely in detention for being in the lake!![]()

Anyhow, I am back with another question! So I read the recent post in the Context section and got curious about the secret passages and how they'd work in practise.
Can they be actually used in rp, and if so, is there a list of them somewhere on the site, do we have to research actual passages in Hogwarts or can we just make them up?
This is often the Corridors forum, but could also be the Dungeon, or the Basements, or even the Room of Requirement!

FAQ — Questions
We have two very basic rules: 1. We allow most any kind of disability, but we expect that players who choose one respect the nature of the chosen disability and play their parts accordingly. 2. We recommend that people do not choose a disability that would preclude them from ordinary life in a boarding school.Silva Melinora wrote: 30 Dec 2024, 01:35 What are the rules around disabilities and what disabilities you can have? So yes, you could have a blind character. Or a deaf or mute character. Keep in mind that many things can be healed or cured with magic. On the other hand, if healing magic is botched, the patient can be left scarred or disabled.
Following from rule 2, we wouldn't recommend a profoundly deaf or mute character, simply because she would not be able to hear and correctly repeat or say the magical incantations. A mute character would be unable to speak the incantations. It's not impossible, but it would also be a very difficult role to play. We do not recommend extremely severe disabilities because the school is not equiped to act as a full time hospital or care center.
Since you are already indexed, any disability you might be considering would be in your character's future. I would recommend owling one of our excellent Index team members to see what might be possible. Since you've already been RPing, the chances of retconning a disability become slim.

FAQ — Questions
Hi Silva! I’m going to answer your second question, adding up a bit to what Prat said. You need a discord account to be a member of staff (prefects/professors/heads of house/headmaster/other things like nurse and caretaker), a spots captain/co captain, a headliner member and a member of the iNPC team. To be a ball planner, you don’t need a discord. Personally, I have no discord yet I was a ball planner. But if you want to moderate a thread, then you must have discord to access the bot spam channel. But you can still do other things. Thank you all! Any disabilities are just random thoughts for an iNPC but I'm not sure if I'd ever do them. I can't currently get a discord account but I will the second I can!
Edit: New question. I was looking at the wandmaker ability and several things said they would work a certain way if paired with a different thing. For instance it said a kneazle and willow wand could enable non-verbal magic. Is that actually usable or is it only for flavor?
Edit again: Another question. I know, there's a lot of them. Would a club event that requires dice roles need to be moderated by someone on the discord server

Wandmaker question -> You still need to have the nonverbal ability in order to actively use that. However, the cores are the ones that provide the statistic benefits, I'm fairly certain the wood, length and flex are your flavors, not for loopholes of hey I got wandmaker AND nonverbal in the same application. So I do believe it is a flavor.
Second question on club -> Unofficial clubs do not need to actually roll on the discord, if you wish to roll and you're on the discord you could do it in the #bot-spam channel. However, private servers, yada yada real dice google dice, whatever else there is, it's not an official moderated thing so you don't actually *have* to roll on the server or have it moderated. It's only moderated really if it's an official thing like main events (Pyre for example), Sports (Official Duelling for example), Balls (Fall ball/Spring ball), Summer Camp (in the name), or Detention Roll (catching troublemakers). There could be other reasons for official rolls but very scarcely does a club get their rolls in #roll-channel-1 or 2. They would likely roll privately or in #bot-spam.
