Slytherin Prefect

Grats to @Fang Hui-Ming - our newest Slytherin Prefect. We know him as a tenured, active member member. He has been inspirational in developing some of the systems we enjoy to this day. You all know him, if not you will soon enough. He is now staff. Please defer all complaints to Ming, i am going on vacation.

Technical Problems

Most of you have probably noticed, but we are currently facing site-wide technical issues. The following have been reported:

- Remembrall notifications: Missing notifications for voting, mentions, subscriptions. Not everyone is affected, but many are.

- Posting: After clicking send on a post, an error message shows (see screenshot). Beware that the post usually still posts correctly. If you encounter this problem, we suggest you open a new tab to check whether the post has been successful rather than refreshing, as this may lead to accidentally double-posting.

These are remnants of the issues we had yesterday, we are aware of them, so you do not need to report them again. Thank you for your patience, hopefully the problems will be fixed soon.

Head of House is Stepping Down

Elaine Pendrast, Head of House for House Gryffindor is stepping down from her role as an admin. Elaine leaves behind a legacy of hard work and dedication to the lore of Rowling's canon material. She is best known for holding a dual role as a Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts and Head of House for years. She has also been a lore resource and was an active member of the Index Team. She has had a hand in the development of various site systems. Few remember this, but she started her time on staff as a Prefect for House Slytherin on her student account Edric Banes before she had become a Professor.

Please thank her for her dedication to the community and all of her hard work.

This does mean that we have an opening for a new Head of House (HOH) for Gryffindor. This is an admin role so unlike the other staff roles that have module access to the mcp (moderator control panel) this roe has access to the acp (admin control panel) as well as access to the site's analytical tools and vision of the whole site. This role requires a great deal of trust and familiarity due to the modules the user will have access to so we will not be accepting applications from the whole user base. This position will be restricted to former (and present) staff members only.

Stop Announcing Bans

If another player gets banned, don't announce it. It is not your business to do so. If you think a ban is unjust or incorrect (we spend a lot of time on them but you might have a rare exception) feel free to debate them. But announcing HEY GUYS ___ GOT BANNED is just gossiping and not appropriate. So again, please stop.

Blood Status

Your blood status on your profile should (and this always has been the case) represent your true blood status. Players should not (to be clear "do not") have the option of making an ammendment to their bio to change the blood status. Why: because your blood status on your profile should be accurate even if you were not aware of it.

There have been rare, remote cases where users have re-indexed and with an ammendment had the blood status changed. This should not have happened, but it has. We are not going to revert back on those who had gotten this approval already. That is unfair. However, moving forward that will not be happening. Again, your profile blood status is accurate, even if you are unaware.

The only exception to this rule will be new players on their initial index may get a blood status change as long as it does not contradict what has already been written in character in threads prior to their initial index.

But what if I decide to write years later that my father is not my father and I am really another blood status?

You will not be able to do so. Your father would be the same blood status as your false father or you would have always had the "correct" blood status on your profile. Again, for clarity: you do not need to be in character aware of this, however your profile must be accurate. So you can -think- you're a pure blood but really be a half blood, just unaware until you decide to write this arc for your character.

The other exception is pre-validation. The reason, about half the users in the queue do not really know what they are doing. They have not roleplayed otherwise. They are still in character creation.

Potions Lesson Updates

On March 12, the lessons for Year 1, Lesson 3, and Year 1, Lesson 4 will be updated and partially replaced to match the recipes of the released Potion System. This will affect the homework questions and answers.

If you have started doing these assignments, please finish them ASAP and hand them in. If you have not, I recommend waiting for the rewritten lessons. Thank you <3

New HOH Gryffindor

@Bubba McGarry has been named HOH Gryffindor, he will be serving in this new role under the name of @Galahad Browne (relation to Caradoc Browne unknown). He is replacing @Elaine Pendrast, HOH Gryffindor for multiple years, also former Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts (DADA). She was also a Prefect in 2018 for House Slytherin. She has been involved in site lore and Index and has been passionate about the Harry Potter universe. She will be missed.

Bubba McGarry comes to us as an ambitious, energetic, and knowledgeable member of the staff. He was a Prefect of Ravenclaw (a role that will be open to applications shortly) and co-head of the mentorship program (where he will be replaced) as well as a broom racing captain (the captain role he will be stepping back from in coming weeks as he will not be able to plan actions with a global vision of the site and that is a core part of he captain role).

Please thank Elaine for her hard work and congratulate Galahad in his new staff role.

Encyclopedia Reminder:

Indexed students need to have information in their encyclopedia. To remain on Index you need to have your bio (and first instance) of magic as well as the other required elements for Index Registration in your encyclopedia after you are Indexed.

In other words, you cannot delete your data after registration. You cannot make a family tree instead of a character history and registration. For those who are "recoding" your encyclopedia, you still need to have your data even as a placeholder. You cannot replace your encyclopedia with "fancy code" that removes this information.

Why is this being said:
it has come to our attention that several users have either deleted their bio or removed major aspects of their bio.

What we are asking you to do: to put your character information back up.
