As soon as the music began, Lottie was off. She wished terribly that she could enjoy the elegant bend of the music as it flowed through the air, but all she could think was that any moment she could fall flat on her face.

The sound of blades cutting ice sliced through her ears, and she couldn’t help but count each beat to ensure that she was following the dance as closely as they had practiced. The first jump came much quicker than she had thought, and with only a moment to compose herself, she thrust her body into the air. For a brief moment, she thought she had completely blown it, but as her blades connected with the ice and she continued to glide on, success rang clear in her ears.

It occurred to her quite suddenly, though, that only one pair of skates had landed. That left her with two options: either Ev had forgotten their jump, or she had fallen. Without any way to know for certain, though, Lottie was left with an anxious twist in her gut as the dance continued on.

𝒮ucceeding in their earlier actions, the two swans had already reached a desired spot as tied second place. Though, it was not enough. Meiyu, akin to Ula, affirmed mentalities where in which second place had meant they almost succeeded, after all, silver was not gold. The pair evidently shared discontent for their current rank, striving for something higher. Quickly glancing across the frozen lake, Meiyu's exhale into the misty Russian air formed a small cloud consisting of condensation, brutally reminding the girl of how cold it truly was.

As the synths continued once more, Meiyu and Ula resumed their routine, graciously skating across the ice, moving with the music as though they had embodied the lyrics of each word which echoed through the venue. The choice in song only aiding their chosen tale of the two swans, akin to their own personalities, a perfect tale of two young girls. Maintaining a stoic expression, Meiyu moved until the synths had signalled their next cue and with that, she drew her wand once more, this time firmly incanting, "Caerulimillious!"

Unable to take a mere second to process any after effects, should her spell have succeeded, Meiyu hid her wand back into her costume, gliding with grace across the frozen lake, momentarily admiring the few ice particles which flew away from her skates, position her feet into the move they had practiced maliciously — a quad upright.

Exasperation is all Evpraksiya could feel as she landed wrong, the patch of ice underneath her skates splintering her edge and forcing her weight too far forward. The mistake was small —a fraction of a degree maybe— but it still felt like a dropped vase. Pieces of ice spinning out from beneath her skates.

Her blade scraped as she overcorrected, knee dipping sharply to prevent a fall. For a fleeting second her free leg windmilled, the gauze of her skirts snapping in a flash of opalescent chiffon against the cold Kolovstoretz air. The muscles in her calf strained as she dipped lower, it took a while for control returned. Her spine straightened. Her chin lifted, and the error vanished beneath her composure.

Evpraksiya didn't look toward the judges’ table, instead, tailing Charlotte as according to their program. She pushed off the ice into powerful backward crossovers, each stroke deliberate, rebuilding speed to catch back up to where Charlotte was ahead of her on the ice. Staying a few steps behind her, Eurydice and Orpheus. This time, the ice was clean and cooperative beneath the sharpened edge of her blade.

Unfortunate, was ringing through her mind as she kept her breath and moved along to the next step of the program.

Elena moved, fluid as a satin dancers' ribbon, grace etched into every arch of spine and extension of limb, her body caracoling through their routine as though the concept of air resistance did not exist for her, that yet again nature was bowing its head to the lady of the moonlight.

Giovanni had not begun so elegantly.

He had managed to fail both his triple flip and blue spark charm in their first half of the routine, and had instead opted to watch Elena fulfil her landing flawlessly, letting the sight of her wash away that pit in his chest from his failure, and that private irritation known only to those who demand exactness from themselves. However, Giovanni was a boy of persistence, and it lived in him the way cold lived in the dark, frosted lake water trapped beneath heavy ice sheets; quiet, pervasive, impossible to separate from the whole. He was sculpted by discipline and the quiet insistence of inherited expectation, and so, he refused to let a misstep anchor him. Yes, it left the faint metallic taste of ‘almost’ in his mouth, but he would not let it bloom, and instead, circled round to reach for Elena as she landed her impeccable triple flip, her skate striking the ice with a sound so clean it seemed to split the air with both the bright clarity of a horn and the delicate tinkle of a bell.

For a moment, as he had watched her in that suspended silver interval, the moon in the air, she had appeared unmoored from gravity. Her body drew inward, revolving with the soft inevitability of something celestial completing its orbit. And she was off, springing from the ice. Once, twice, (he held his breath) thrice! The rotations were immaculate. And when she descended, it was not with force but with belonging, her silver blade finding the ice the way a key finds its lock. Her wand followed, and from its tip light unspooled in fine threads of blue which exploded outward into the crystalline air, showering them in an arctic blue pale radiance of sparks.

A flash of something at the periphery drew his gaze away, and he swept a fleeting glance across the perimeter, the world shifting with a sort of surreality as he did so, darkened turquoise eyes catching silver light, shadowed treelines hemming the frozen lake, and snagging on something his brain registered as out of place, though her appearance gave anything but in the way her dark brown hair was gathered into a neat twist, pulled back smooth and as exact as calligraphy freshly imprinted onto parchment. Recognition struck not like surprise, but like a sudden sharpening of awareness. Elisa Wagner stood there, at the edge of the lake, wearing white akin to fresh snowfall and looking like she belonged there, her aura of composure striking amid the others. Giovanni saw her often enough in class to know the particularity with which she occupied a room, and here it seemed no different. Even now, she looked radiant and attentive, and he did not know what she thought of figure skating, whether she found it frivolous, impressive or excessive, but he wanted to know.

The thought passed through Giovanni with an urgent curiosity, but there was no time to dwell on that now, for Elena was already gliding back toward him, and they had a dance to begin together, and as they carved into the next curve of choreography, his blade traced a long crescent through the lake’s glassy surface, his shoulders settling and his breath aligning with hers. His eyes flicked towards her, shining with approval and admiration, and as they began, the shoreline blurred once more into abstraction.

They would attempt the waist hold lift, and if successful, if breath and balance aligned, Giovanni’s hand would find her waist with quiet certainty, fingers splaying at the narrow point just above her hip, firm but reverent. His other arm would steady at her back as he grounded himself, bending into the ice before rising, and drawing her upward in one continuous motion. Winter light caught in his eyes, turning their blue-green depths luminous, glacial, and mineral, like fractures of polished turquoise stones stirred beneath ice. The colour sharpened there in the cold as he looked up at her, she was framed against the pale sky, suspended in a long, silver line, trust held entirely in the steadiness of his arms. Then when her blade kissed the ice once more, he would hold her there close, a second longer than necessary,, breathing in the same frosty air before they would raise their wands in a mirrored motion to cast the snowflake charm, giving bloom should it be successful, to light, fine and pale at first before flowering outward into intricate frostwork, snowflakes forming midair in delicate geometries, each one briefly perfect before beginning its slow descent. They would not fall in chaos but in quiet abundance, a blue-white bloom unfolding above them and settling like a benediction over ice already laced with reflected stars.

Eventually, when steel was no longer singing beneath him and when the music had thinned for it to be over, he could then let his gaze seek the curiosity it wished to. But for now, the ice held him, and he let it.

“An explosion of constellations across his shoulders, trays of starlight streaming down his chest and diving into an ink-black blue, with silver and indigo highlights. The fabric is tailored to fit so that every movement looks fluid and precise on the ice when he performs, patterned with flowing celestial lines, star-like detailing sewn across the shoulders, chest, and sleeves, with soft, sheer elements here and there. These luminous streaks are not confined to the front but are on the back as well, intricate and radiant. Fine silver lines branch and arc outward like constellations in bloom or frost spreading across glass, perfectly on theme for figure skating in the the crystalline cold of russian winter. His suit is layered with delicate dimension that catches the light with every movement, transforming him into a living fragment of the night sky. Dark hair carefully combed, though ruffled by the wind, with faint silver glint threads through it, only visible when he turns into the spotlight while gliding on the ice. Fastened to the tunic of his outfit is a delicate silver and crystal star-shaped pin, and a divine silver headpiece with sharp metallic lines cradles his head, letting way to his dark hair that curls elegantly around it. The contrast of the silver metal and the burnt chestnut brown is striking, and at the front there is a small blue crystal detail that matches the to the blue in his outfit. subtle, precise eyeliner mixed with silver glitter sharpens his gaze under the rink lights clean, defined, and understated.

Concentrated and resolute, Rosaline soared upward as if taking flight, spinning in the air. In a slight second, she felt the weight of her body fade into motions. In the air, she almost prayed for this action to work. A perfect landing. The young Everhart glided on the ice and danced, doing the routine she had planned with Leo. The previous snowflake-creating spell had succeeded, and the snow fluttered down toward the ice. The little dendrites danced with her moves, as if they were the backup dancers for the pair of lynx and black cat. The two felines shared the unison they had cultivated throughout their practices.

Rosaline skated to Leo’s side elegantly; they were going to do the next move. As the song reached its climax and the beat of the drums intensified, Rosaline reached for her wand and enounced, “Bullarum Immortalem.” To cast a bubble-producing charm in the air, she didn’t turn her head to confirm the visual effect of the spell. Right at the moment, the lynx was focusing on her next jump, extending her leg to the back and leaning to the front; she was ready to take off from the ground again.

The outcome was unknown to her, yet she was excited to see how their performance would turn out. With a content smile on her face, Rosaline leaped from the ice.

The music rushed into her ears, the way it had each and every time she had practiced this very routine, but unlike the happiness and freedom that she had felt prior, she felt the a terror consumer her. The terror that she had felt all too many times, trickling down her back in a rush of sweat, causing her hand to vibrate in a manner that wasn’t promoted by the cold of the rink. Too many people, too many eyes, too many risks. Too much.

Frozen like the ice in what had been her artistic starting position, stood the first year. Her breath hastened, and the pain of potential humiliation and not being perfect, the one that always ended up with a success of her fears, swept through her. Out of a subconscious glance to her side, she saw as bubbles floated around her and Pamela attempt a move which was… unsuccessful. A small gulp of disappointment ran through her, as if she were merely a spectator not a competitor herself.

She. Amelia Lerelle. Was a competitor. In the 2026 International Magical Olympic Games. Surely that was an achievement enough? It didn’t look like they could win, victory seemed further away than the greatest mountain in the world. But she had to try. Right?

The only way to continue her performance as if the small hindrance of stage fright was most undoubtedly part of her performance, was to act. With a pretty flourish of her arms, the statue of terror came to life as a graceful skater.

Amelia turned to Pamela preparing for their next move, and with a nerve racked breath that rasped in her chest, she took her preparation. Her preparation to save the show. Her preparation to fly.

𝕾he was flying. Airborne, the wind swirling around her limbs and lifting her upward, hand stretched towards the sky for a brief second before folding back towards her chest, she breathed deeply and began her rotation. A wide, fluid movement of her leg primed her jump, its strength giving her the necessary momentum to push off firmly from the ice, and soon she was flying.

There was no accurate description of the exhilarating sensation settling in her bones, as though she had grew wings and was ready to take flight, to cleave through the atmosphere and to become, herself, a celestial being. Eyes closing for a moment, she let her heart wander around the scene, freezing time in its track and allowing her to merge within the precise mouvement of the breeze playing with golden curls. A complete and utter silence. Peaceful, serene, she was nothing but Time and Movement, all woven into the other as her limbs rotated, a single soul on a moving rock floating through space. She spun once, twice, thrice — suspended in the air as though gravity had vanished, allowing the moonchild to forever float in this eerie state.

And she landed.

Her skates loudly clashed against the frozen surface of the lake, shards of ice erupting from beneath in a beautiful cascade as she beamed towards her partner, the thrill of success engrained into her heart. Her smile faltered upon meeting his watercolour eyes — though his features were carefully composed into a perfect façade, her own storm-tossed gaze pierced immediately his bravado, noticing the frustrated crease just above his eyebrow, or how heavy his breathing had become. Her starboy had apparently failed his action, the thought of which curved her lips into a teasing smile, as she skated closer to him.

Frozen fingers slipping into his — warm, as always, he was the fire her freezing soul seeked in the dead of winter — she lightly nudged him, an unspoken we got this swirling within her eyes. She would certainly use that incident to make fun of him later, though, that was a promise. Spinning into place, the raven felt his hand gently find her waist, as they prepared for the upcoming lift, which would swiftly be followed by a snowflake charm. Sucking in a breath, the honey-haired girl prepared herself, ready to touch the stars.

Speech -- Thoughts

Pam winced as she failed in her move, her foot landing awkwardly on the ice. She glanced back at Amelia, frowning as the girl did not seem to move at all. Pam attempted to catch her eye, emotions torn between concern and frustration. She'd already failed her spin, and if Amelia did not attempt hers at all, they'd basically be stuck at the bottom.

What was she doing?

She seemed nervous though, Pam thought, risking another glance at her. She felt bad for her, and flashed her what she hoped was an optimistic smile, even if she herself felt anything but.

Maybe I could cast a spell.

The flash of inspiration seemed to come just in time, and Pam grabbed onto her wand, and held it out, casting the first spell she could think of. Coincidentally, the spell she ended up casting was the Snowflake-Creating Spell. It was perfect really, for the occasion, considering it was winter and well, they were skating. Would've been even more perfect if we had actually skated a bit, she thought bitterly.

It was fine though, maybe they'd succeed the second round. Hopefully. But since they were already low on points, they'd have to stick to the spells too. She glanced at Amelia and caught her eye, mouthing at her to attempt a Green-Sparks Charm. Hopefully she'll be able to cast it.

Although Cecilia had endless critiques for Camille, none were regarding his technique. Indeed, he was flawless when she needed him to be and that was enough to elicit an involuntary yet genuine smile from her. It was the sort that made her seafoam eyes gleam, almost as though one stared into a glittering lake. At that moment, it seemed that any venom she reserved for Camille had disappeared.

Iridescent bubbles and delicate snowflakes enveloped the pair when Camille wrapped his arms around Cecilia. Her breath hitched as they spun and as they faced each other, a hint of bewilderment flashed across her eyes. Though she was relieved that they worked well together, it was somewhat of a mystery as to why they did.

However, this was of little importance, for this was not time to ponder on their partnership. Such distractions threatened to impair the quality of her next trick. And Cecilia had not joined hands with the devil to execute a subpar performance. With that in mind, she brandished her wand at the same time as Camille. The whispered incantation rolled off her tongue: “Nix Facitur.”

Soon enough, the moment for their jump drew near. Perhaps a single lutz would not be so daunting to more experienced skaters, but Cecilia felt her chest tighten as she braced herself. If either of them failed now, there would be hell to pay.
