So when you guys RP on there do you use a translator or do you know French? Because I know translators can be tricky since languages tend to have words that don't exist in others so there's mistranslations. I'm considering how that can affect native French speakers on that website

hey! thanks for asking, just wanted to let you know that this is a club, and the sign up link is right here: ~heart~
but anyways, i use a translator, though if you speak French and are an experienced user on this site, i suppose you dont need one. even with a little french, the pictires and layout are the same ig. are you French?

Yeah, I know it's a club, I saw the first post! I'm bringing this is up because I'm concerned with the fact that I think it's unfair to native French speakers when a person who doesn't know a language well is primarily using translators, which aren't built for creative, informal, long writing such as roleplaying. They're prone to mistranslations because languages tend to have meanings that don't exist in others, and I think it can taint the roleplaying experience, especially for the native speakers. I also think people can be understanding, especially if you're putting in effort to learn the language instead of just using a translator.
I'm coming from the experience of going to live in a country where I don't speak the native language, and when it comes to translating through text, these translators can translate things in weird ways. They're best used for short-term communication rather than something like roleplaying

I can't speak for everyone, but as everywhere else, people understand if you are not native so you might have mistakes and that's alright. I have godmother there who said I can ask her to translate me some words if I don't understand them.
Translators are working different for different languages, for example with translating a sentence in Arabic, most likely it will have mistakes but still Arab speaker will understand, while with some other language it works good. I translate to French and then from French to see if meaning stayed the same. Also I don't translate big texts, I do them by some sentences. Till now no one said I had mistakes. Also sometimes when you use translator, you can memorize it, so you kinda learn it as well. Also some words are close to English so there's no need in translation.

I make it clear on the first page and with everyone that I'm planning a role-play - my french is not good. I don't bother hiding it because I know it is, and I do my best to limit translating and try typing words on my own.
There are players that are okay with it, and I don't role-play with people who wish to do RPG ++ or harder ones.

I know quite a lot of French, there I improve it and learn new words.
It's also true that people are very understanding.
