CL BROOM RACING - RAVENCLAW vs SLYTHERIN - WINTER 2023

This was a fantastic start to his tenure as broom racing captain. The only Slytherin racer even remotely close was a boy whose name he didn't know but had had a run-in with at one of Sam's duels. Needless to say, he wasn't a big fan. What a shame it would be if someone knocked the obnoxious boy off his broom. Still, the most important thing was to get the Ravenclaw racers over the line and seal a win for the team, and that's all he was trying to think about.

He gave another loud clap and cheer for the team as he tried to think of what the best course of action would be as they got deeper into the race.

----Vale finally found her broom and got onto it. She quickly squeezed out her hair, weighing heavily on her small head and prepared to finally begin flying and catching up with everyone. It was going to be troublesome being damp for the rest of the race, but she dealt with far worse things!

Besides, maybe she'll dry up as she's flying.

The next patch of obstacles proved to be worse than Ari had assumed them to be. The snow continued to fall, freezing his hands through his gloves, but he managed to hang on. Sadly the cockatrice spotted him too and wasn't gracious in any form (and rather ugly to say the least). It scorched him, and that pain combined with the blistering cold snow and bleeding scratches from the thorns was a combination that Ari wouldn't wish on anyone. But he would have to hold on if his team was gonna win. He'd seek proper medical attention after securing Ravenclaw's victory.

It was small, but they were slowly starting to gain some ground now. Gray had suffered some cuts and bruises along the way, but it was nothing to be concerned about just yet. As long as they all kept up this pressure on the opposite team, they were sure to force them into mistakes further down the line. If it were hitting a tree, or through forced stupidity.

Ow, ow, ow." Branches thwapped June in the face as she brute forced her way through the forest. A change in tactics from last time, where June was focused on being perfectly agile. That hadn't worked so well against the badgers, but June was taking quite the beating from this technique. Before June could think about how she could switch up her game, her thoughts were consumed by what felt like her fingers and toes freezing off. Brr.

Go further, push harder. Hunter could only grit his teeth as the blazing cold of the atmosphere landed on his face and he could feel himself beginning to slow down slightly. He was glad to finally be out of slytherin's range of hurling crap at him. Were they finally going to stop throwing rocks at him, or did they still have a bit of violence stuck in their hearts? Hunter didn't know but a few ideas came to mind to at least try and get back at them.

He reached out and called to Clair, to speed up the process and increase the probability of his plans to work. The grip of his body only became stiffer as the pain grew from the surrounding environment, and the sneeze he endured from his cousin's spell only annoyed him further. Hunter was close on the verge of snapping and losing his cool. As he looked towards his teammate Bloom who made a comment about being in the winners circle, he only sighed slightly in response. Winning... like Hunter really wanted to do that. At this point he was itching more for revenge for Slytherin's starting attempt of ganging up on him than winning. He rudely brushed her off, no comment being made to the upper year. All he did was turn back instead to see who was approaching.

Wyatt lost a bit of mobility following his foul. He was a bit taken aback, as he was usually quite good at being sneaky. He was a Slytherin, right? He was supposed to be of the house of sly serpents. Of course, a sly anything wouldn’t have gotten caught, but that’s neither here nor there. All of a sudden, Wyatt regained his sentience and realized it was probably time for him to get to moving again.

"YEEEEEEEEP!!"

Colin didn't mind flying through trees. He was used to ending up with a torn racing cape and shredded arms and legs! He didn't call it bloody Hogwarts racing for nothing! Ah, but the cold snow dulled the pain left by snapping tree branches and the chill wind that came with felt refreshing through his newly ventilated shirt. Now this was living, Colin thought. Always on the edge of danger, always one step away from death or worse!

As Colin passed near one of the stands full of cheering students, he did catch sight of one familiar face. He'd seen the boy in classes or in the corridors many times. Poor thing looked constipated half the time. Colin smirked. Some Ravenclown prat --- where did he see him up close? Oh right! During Regina's brilliant take down of poor Salwis. Poor lass. Didn't stand a chance against the mighty Regina Miller!

Hah! Colin thought as he and a few others flew straight into Cockatrice Land! Oof! That was gonna hurt!

Apparently Ravenclaw was desperate for a win as one of them sent a well aimed Flipendo at one of the Slytherin racers, who was sadly unable to avoid the hit. Now being a unit behind, he was going to have to try again to get ahead. Slytherin was still on their streak of throwing random object at people as yet again another well aimed object managed to hit one of the Ravenclaw racers. That was definitely going to hurt.

What had Logan said about the trees, but apparently no one ever thought about the fact that flying through trees at high speeds was dangerous. She was definitely going to be the first person to say 'I told you so' if one of the racers managed to knock themselves out.

The wind must not have been too bad were the racers were flying because all of them seemed to manage to cling to their brooms like it was nothing. Logan knew she probably would have been laying on the ground crying at that point, and the racers were not even half way through the race yet.

The cold must have been getting to the racers flying through the waterfall then having to deal with snow and wind. Logan was just standing on the ground and she was freezing. Maybe they were going fast enough they were drying their clothes though, or freezing them.

The sun must have hit in just the right spot as Logan noticed one of the Ravenclaw racers having a bit of difficulty. Poor Ravenclaw because they were going to need to get their vision cleared if they were going to managed to get through the rest of the race without hitting anything.

Logan expected more people to be able to notice the lizard chicken, but apparently it was difficult to see in the area it hid in because two of the racers flew right passed it, even managing to avoid the attacked aimed at them from the angered creature. One of the Ravenclaw racers was not as lucky, but apparently she was the only one of them to actually be able to see the thing.

These racers were successful in making it through the trees, but Logan had seen a few close calls and winced every time one of them came near to hitting something. They all managed to get through though without actually hitting anything. Maybe the success of their fellow Ravenclaw racer had given them some confidence.

Apparently Lumos helped quite a bit when it came to flying through the dense trees because the older Ravenclaw racer made it look like the easiest thing in the world to avoid the trees. Maybe the other racers should take notes, because Logan had seen the amount of damage they were causing to themselves while flying at high speeds through those trees.
