Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Sixth Sense
Describe why this fits your character:
Sergei became a very wary kid throughout his life so far, with no one to rely on, he soon grew to rely only on himself. As a result of this immense expectation of himself, he began to get a... sense, for when things were off. Be it a glance from his guardians having far more behind it than just looking at him, or when his bedroom seemed off after those very same guardians subtly rooted through his things to make sure he wasn't doing anything 'untoward'. Or perhaps he's wandering through the streets on one of his excursions and has to watch his back to make sure no strangers decide he is an easy target. These quick wits ensured he didn't mess up and pay the price most of the time.
As he grew older, they only grew more honed. Unfortunately, they were moreso honed by his paranoia than pure mental fortitude. He'd be walking down the road, and tense up as something seemed to be lurking in the shadows. Nothing had moved; he hadn't seen any eyes reflecting light in the dark, and there were no sounds that would normally catch someone's attention. Then, as he started to question his own sanity, a dog leapt out and lunged at him. Evading the first attack, he slammed it on the nose, causing it to yelp and sprint away. Heart pounding as he watched it disappear into a different alleyway, he brushed it off as a coincidence.
Then it kept happening. He avoided a biker without seeing that they were swerving on a beeline to crash into him. He caught one of his foster siblings creeping through his room when he was in the kitchen. He kept an eye on his guardians' actions and how they treated them, and despite them showing nothing that would normally cause alarm, he'd predict within a few days that he was going to be moved to yet another foster family. As these... intuitions kept happening, he merely grew more wary of everyone around him, no longer could he see a friendly face as simply that, he caught every little twitch in their expression, every oddly-placed breath, ever averted gaze and odd lilt to words, and his mind would churn with these thoughts and suspicions that almost always proved correct.
Now he's practically mastered this intuition, this... sixth sense, and he always trusts his gut. With these self-fulfilling prophecies, his distrust of others was only fed. Sometimes he slips up, sometimes his mindset isn't where it needs to be to act on this sense, but he's rarely wrong about this intuition. It's merely another excuse to rely on himself, and thus fits him perfectly both personality-wise and backstory-wise. With his wary nature and an environment that nurtured that nature, it's a rather believable ability for him to have.

Charms spells had always been what Ellie was attracted to. Even as a little girl when her mother was teaching her and her sister spells by casting them in front of them and having them guess what spell they where based on the color, and result of what casting it would do. No body know why Ellie was so attracted to the charms spells. Maybe it was the bright colors or the fun things that the spells could do, or maybe it was a whole different reason, maybe the reason started when she was four oh so many years ago. Let me take you back...
Ellie and her twin, Tiana had just finished another spell lesson with there mom and Tiana had aced all the Defense Agianst the Dark Arts spells. Again. Ellie was walking back to her room when she heard her mom talking to her dad on how well they were doing.
"Oh yeah, and Tiana has mastered all the Defense Against the Dark Arts spells, she memorized them all! We might have an Auror in our family when she graduates!" Her mom said, proudly and happily
Ellie slinked up the stairs to her room. Her sister was so good at it, Ellie wanted to be just as good! Her mom was proud of her sister! Ellie wanted her to feel proud of her. Ellie went down to her mom's bookshelf. What spells should she learn all about? Certainly not Defense Against the Dark Arts! She did not want to copy her sister or steal her sister's fire at all! Ellie pulled out a book on the charms spells. Walking back into her room, carrying the book she smiled, if she studied hard enough maybe her mom would give her good praise too! So reaching her room Ellie set the book on the floor and started learning all she could! She studied for days, weeks, months and every time, being able to get more and more Charms spells right.
Well now she was five and it was time for another lesson (she had had many lessons in between then and now) Her mom started casting the spells for Charms. This is what Ellie had been training for. Her mom shot a spell. Ellie answered really fast. Both her sister and mom looked at her in surprise, yes she had been getting the Charms ones faster and faster but this was the fastest yet. She smiled. Her mom kept casting spell and while Ellie started to slow down after a little, she still answered with the same certainty. Finishing the lesson with having done all the spells perfectly Ellie waited a little and then followed her mom to where she was talking to her dad.
"She answered them all correctly when I shot the Charms spells out and she did it so fast! With all the others, this didn't happen but boy, you should have seen her at those charm spells!"
Ellie felt happy, she could feel and see the pride in he moms voice.
So from then on and to this day still the spells in Charms always held a special meaning in her heart and always will be special to her!

Despite growing up with the magical influences of her father, Eli very much grew up in a Muggle town. Before her parents had been married and long before they decided to start a family, her mother Leota had had one rule: her children would experience the ‘non-magical world’ before getting tossed into the magical one to spend the rest of their lives. That way, they would (hopefully) have a healthy understanding of them both.
And so, up until she was eleven and she was to attend Hogwarts: Eli went to a Muggle school. She learned and studied Muggle subjects (she is, admittedly, excited to get to compare Scotland's dual histories. The perspective of the Muggles is different than the sometimes more truthful account of the wizarding world on what happened). And their home had all the accessories one would expect to find in a Muggle home (a television, a computer, pedal bikes, a car, etc). If her father sometimes helped things along when they were all late returning home and supper wasn’t ready? Well, that was just a bonus.
Eli didn’t go out of her way to make waves at her school or in her neighbourhood but like any kid she had her ups and her downs. Her best friend Elise (a young girl who lived across the street from her that had been her friend since they were both five years old when they realized excitedly that they almost had the same name) often had it worse. Sometimes bullied by the more cruel children for only having a father present in her life, Elise had some troubles standing up for herself.
Eli had no trouble standing up for her.
And normally she could get away with ignoring the taunts or making sure that Elise was far away from her tormentors. Sometimes though, that wasn’t enough. And sometimes when the kids would get too close or too personal there was no other option (in Eli’s mind, of course) than to make space. Three times she’d been given detention for throwing a haphazard punch or for pushing a bully away when things got too heated. She never lied about it; she never tried to hide it from her parents even though they did have to have a talk with her each and every time that it happened. She wasn’t necessarily proud about it either but in her mind there was nothing wrong with her wanting to stand up for her friend and doing that by whatever means she had at her disposal; dedicated to seeing a job done. Words could do a lot but sometimes they just weren’t enough.

First of all, when I fill out forms, I am Half-Blood but if there was One-Fourth-Blood category to pick that would be me, because my mother is Half-Blood and my father is a muggle. The closest Pure-Blooded wizard in my family is my grandfather, my mother's father. And my father was furious when he found out she was a witch, so, my meek mother learned muggle ways, silencing magic in the household. ( They certainly did a good job because I was extremely surprised when I found out. It even crossed my mind that I was being tricked. ) But, then again, I am defiantly more muggle than the average wizard, because, I am nearly muggle-born in blood and defiantly for pre-magic experience. Since my father detested magic, I grew up in a average slightly-rich two-story muggle house, in the suburbs, until I was nine and showed my first magic. Then I realized we weren't average members of the community after all. Like any other muggle, I had access to electricity and other technology. Though phones, computers, and TV sometimes had their signals messed up when I was around, I still knew how to use them and liked to use them, when they were working. I even got given a cheep gray laptop on my tenth birthday. My mother keeps it and I ask permission to use it occasionally. Now it is sitting on a shelf gathering dust. I even got to see and use 'boring' things Pure-Blood wizards never bother learning about, like potato peelers, pencils, and buses, but I like to remember my non-magical past. It makes me feel connected to all my portions of life. ( When I was younger, I occasionally lost supper when I was really bad behaved, so I had to pick my own lock to sneak out of my room to eat something. ) And I was public schooled, like most muggle children, so I've witnessed my fair share of Non-Magical fist-fights and arguments. I was even in some because I was unpopular. I got fairly good grades in school because I usually like school and do my work. History is my favorite subject and I remember most of it. I am smart in it so if I had any friends at my old school they could ask history related questions and I could quickly spout off the answer. ( But now that history knowledge is no use here, but I cannot wait to learn The History of Magic, because history was my favorite subject and I kind of miss it. ) I've seen it all innocently with no knowledge of the magical world. Then when I was nine and burned my foot over "pretend" lava, my parents had to admit that I wasn't Pure-Muggle any longer. That's when my life changed...
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, DON'T HESITATE TO OWL ME. ( MODERATION AND LIKE ONLY. )

ReducioAurette had always been observant, even as a child. While others would be fascinated by the leaves of a plant they found on a witch's garden, Aurette would study the it's design, the way the leaves would curl up to the pot. When children would play in a grass field, she would unknowingly sense a creature slithering amongst the grass
This is why she had developed an artistic sense in such a young age, she would often study the most tiniest and intricate of details just so she could capture it's overall beauty. When she would be sketching, she always studies her model, whether it was a plant or a mural she found when shopping for her mother's cookbooks, she always found the details that make her sketches recognizable. Though she likes to sketch, she has always found her true passion in oil painting, something her mother had passed on to her. When they would occasionally paint landscapes together, she always had to paint the little birds who were waiting for their mother on a nearby oak tree, or a squirrel picking up nuts underneath a pine.
As a child, she would often use this skill of hers not for her own gain, but to help others around her. Once while she was helping her mum with baking muffins, she pointed out that her mother had used the wrong berry when her mother had laid out the dewberries instead of the blackberries.
Her observant eye often found its use on people too, once her older cousin brought a muggle-born wizard home who claimed to speak Mandarin but she pointed out that the boy was speaking Cantonese because of the difference in his tone.
She always found a use for her unusual gift. When she came over to her friend's house for a playdate and they were playing in their garden, she sensed that there was something lurking in the greenhouse so she told her friend and they decided to find out what it was. They marched to the green house and found an Egyptian Mau, in which was the family's pet that had been missing for 2 days.
Her gift usually never got in the way of her making friends and during family gatherings. In fact her family adores this gift of hers and Aster always tries to give her tests to see if she could point out the differences between plants.
When making friends though, she often points out the characteristics of the people she met, like for instance, when she made her first friend in Godric's Hollow, she said that her family must've owned a cat because of the distinct claw marks in the knuckles of the said friend.

Adjusting to the magical world was certainly an uphill battle for Magnolia. Sure, when she was younger she played pretend that she was some magical fairy or wizard or other, wielding whatever stick or stick-like toy she had and spouting words like "abracadabra" or "bibbidi-bobbidi-boo". But there was no way in a million years she could ever guess that magic was genuinely real. She had just found out that Santa wasn't a real guy, quickly flying all around the world and delivering presents with his reindeer. So, how in the world could magic be real if he wasn't real? It just seemed downright unfair. There had to be someone she could write about to complain about this.
But now that Maggie 100% knew that magic was real, seeing how she was now attending a school that the regular non-magical world never knew existed, there were a whole lot of things to get used to.
Because how was it, in the great year of 2025, was the youth realistically meant to exist without the internet? Magnolia wholeheartedly believed that even though magic was great and could do a whole lot of things, they had been badly passed by the non-magical world when it came to technology. Why would you work owls to the bone delivering letters when a simple message online or even a text can connect you with someone on the other side of the globe? And why would you use a feather from a bird as a writing device when Magnolia had a perfect collection of smudge-proof,bleed-proof gel pens that were ALSO glittery?! Even though the magical world was... well, magical, it seemed archaic in an almost elitist way, like the lack of technology was on purpose to make it seem like wizard-kind was above it all.
But Mags definitely wasn't. The lack of integration between magic and technology was killing her. She didn't even really have that much screen time when she was at home, but now that she had NONE, she slightly resented the fact that she was at magic school. She probably would never prefer a wooden broom, which offered their riders little safety, over her pink, sparkly bike or her moms' plush van. And the moment she got home, she would relish the fact that anything she wanted to write down could be quickly typed on the family computer or even the iPad she owned that was currently collecting dust in her room. She would never find herself too lazy to walk across a room to pick something up instead of levatating it, and she knew that many spells in her first-year spell book didn't even seem too useful to apply to the real world, kind of like how Magnolia personally thought that some math equations she learned in her non-magical school seemed made up.
No matter how she looked at it, Magnolia knew that deep down, she would give up her wand to stay in the Muggle world with all its technology. Because as cool as magic was, she was used to her practical, internet-fueled existence way more.

Gemini had managed to get permission to go out this evening again with his friend Jacob, for a very specific interest of theirs: herpetology. They would go out to the woods nearby their home in Scotland and trek about, searching for reptiles and amphibians.
"You can go, as long as you stay with Jacob," his mom had said. "But I doubt you'll find much, Autumn's coming around, and you two will make plenty of noise stamping all over those leaves," his father added.
Gem had just called back, "Thanks, mom!" and raced out the door tugging on his coat, a knowing smile on his face.
After meeting up with Jacob, the two had begun their usual hike. Every footstep, every crunch of leaves underfoot, rang bright and clear into the crisp air, frightening off anything they could possibly find. But only one set of footsteps.
Eventually, Gemini had held up a hand, almost exasperated, signing to Jacob: 'stop.'
He went ahead a little ways, almost soundless over the carpet of golden-red leaves. He always moved carefully, quietly. Not just in the forest, but... everywhere. Simply out of habit.
He tugged his snake hook from his hiking pack, carefully shifting his weight. He slid the instrument under the slim green snake in a practiced motion, and slipped back to join Jacob again.
"Nothing much. Just the usual vine snake," Gem had said, a little disappointed. But Jacob hadn't replied, just stared at him. Finally he spoke.
"How did you do that?" he asked, excited, surprised and almost... admiring?
"Do what?"
"When you-" but Jacob had stopped himself there, shaking his head. He pointed to a thicket, a small skink scuttling underneath. He let Gemini go ahead.
He hadn't brought it up again. Gem didn't ask what he'd meant, either.
---
Gemini has always been careful to keep his footfalls quiet, even when he has no reason to. It's not to spy, or trick. Just a habit he's developed over years of watching and sneaking through the woods.
He frequently finds himself overhearing conversations, occasionally getting confronted for eavesdropping.
"But you let me listen!" he'd always protest, truly confused.
He's developed this skill both through his love of the Earth, and through his own wary nature. He's found it comes in handy for getting information in advance(he hates being the last to know anything, it makes him feel unprepared), as well as for his ventures into the wild. He's learned it from a combination of experience paired with observations of silent, non-human creatures(e.g. reptiles, insects, cats etc.)
Summary:
's Grace suits Gem, as it matches with his own brand of logic and reason. His backstory supports it as well. Overall, it's a good fit!

Frankly, when you grow up in a family where a quarter of them can be as beautiful, ethereal, stunning or as hideous, monsterous, disgusting looking as they want to be, the concept of judging a book by its cover really gets completely thrown out the window before you can even learn about it. To a degree, people looking the same every time you see them almost becomes more weird than people who are different every time you see them.
For this reason, Avery has developed the ability to almost look through what people look like, focusing more on tiny little quirks in their faces and physical actions, the specific tone and inflection of their specific voices and the way they talk, how high and low their voice is able to go, and other things. He listens and pays attention almost too hard to what people say and do, and he started to rely on these various personality and physical tells that were too hard to hide when someone changed their appearance.
He almost pays too much attention to people, being able to catch them in deceptions very quickly, because for the formative years of his life, a good portion of his family rarely looked the same between one meeting and the next, and were always trying to trick each other for fun. Those of the Finch family who were metamorphmagi were constantly changing their appearance, even right in front of him, and those who weren't metamorphmagi were also masters of disguise who would approach him looking completely different than when he last saw them. It was a game in the Finch family that you were always playing, no matter how far you were from the family home.
Now, there's a certain blindness to his concept of what people look like, and this kind of upbringing has also contributed to his terrible issues with remembering anyone's name. He can remember a voice he heard once from 10 years ago and remember where he heard it, but he can also see you and talk to you every day of his life and not remember your name.
That being said, he can remember people in paintings and portraits and every fact he has ever learned about them immediately and even recognize if they are in other paintings and portraits, as well. Maybe he feels as if paintings are more lasting and those who are portrayed in them have more meaning than people in his day-to-day life, who seem to come and go like the wind with about the same frequency.

The thing about growing up in a family of dramatic people who are never the same from meeting to meeting, and magic is vibrant and alive and a consistent part of life and who you are, is that those characteristics and habits tend to rub off on you, creating a child who easily draws the room or sends it packing on a whim. Avery is just boisterous and entertaining enough to garner the attention of his fellow peers, captivating the room, but he also possesses the ability to slip out of the middle of a crowd with no one the wiser that he left.
With the conflicting personalities of his father's family, the dramatics, and his mother's, a family of people who just want to blend in with every one and every thing, Avery learned to subtly adjust to every situation he is in and morph himself not only physically, but mentally to the people around him.
It was confusing growing up in this kind of tug of war between realities, and the more time Avery spent at Hogwarts school of magic, the more time he spent learning the magic that his mother found so hard to get used to, even now, the more conflicted he became about his continued balance of the two worlds. One where magic was fully embraced and encouraged, and one where it was neatly stored away in a box and barely hinted at.
His father seemed to balance this well, but it gave Avery a troubling sense of having to split himself in two to please all parties: the magical Avery and the non-magical Avery.
While this ability to be anyone that anyone prefers him to be is rather useful socially, this kind of casing on his base personality, and let's be honest, his magic, ended up manifesting for Avery with rather... explosive results. Sometimes these results are good, with his spells going a little funny and doing quite a bit more than he thought he was capable of against his enemies, splitting in two sometimes to mimic his split between two senses of self. Other times, this burst of magic can backfire on him in quite a bad way, causing much more damage to himself than he had planned for his opponent.
It's hard to say whether this juggling of expectations act of Avery's is a good or bad thing. Maybe it's a neutral thing, but some day he really is going to have to figure out who the actor behind the role really is.

Y6 Ability: Nonverbal MagicSTATUS: Approved, Lawrence, May 30th
Reducio
Something that was always a source of confusion for Avery was the fact that he could use his metamorphmagus abilities almost without thinking and with very little effort by now and other magical beings and creatures could use their magic just as innately as he used his, apparently, special, ability, but when it came to spellwork, there was so much involved in it. The very specific words and gestures where, if you moved your arm or hand wrong or said the phrase wrong, the whole thing could blow up in your face, the fact that you even needed a wand, the fact that a person needed so much practice and attention to do something that should more or less come as naturally to them as it did a unicorn. Why was wizarding magic so complicated?
Eventually, Avery found out that wizarding magic doesn't need to be that complicated. Well, not after a person learned how it works.
If he worked hard enough, he could use spells without having to worry about getting tongue-tied and saying them wrong. A lot of people still held that the verbal portion of it made magic easier and more powerful, which Avery figured it probably did, but you don't really need to speak the spells out loud, especially if you aren't doing a dangerous job like being an auror where you need a little extra edge in power.
Additionally, once Avery really got used to using magic in school, it made less and less sense for him to not use magic outside of school (once he turned seventeen, of course) and his own chosen profession, being to work in his mother's frame and art restoration studio, would be much easier if he could do magic without being too obvious about it.
Nonverbal seemed the easiest to start with.
To his great enjoyment, nonverbal magic seemed to be as innate to him as his metamorphagus powers. It wasn't without effort, but he was certainly able to get the hang of saying the word for his spells in his head and his magic doing what he wanted without a verbal command far quicker than he initially thought he would.
Maybe it was because he was already used to the general concept of picturing what he wanted, willing his magic to happen, and feeling the shift of it as it did what he wanted it to do when he was changing his appearance. This way of thinking very quickly and easily translated into using nonverbal spells to do almost the same thing.

- Avery would not have the wandless ability at this time so please focus on non-verbal in this application as it muddies it a little. Particularly when you then go on to describe wandless being more of a challenge in the next app.

You know what's really hard to do when you're working on a frame and you have to hold two pieces of a broken frame together with both hands for a certain amount of time so the glue will cure? Literally anything else.
The cool thing about being a wizard is that you can do a lot of other tasks while doing things like that, as long as the non-magical people don't see you waving your wand around or things moving on their own.
The uncool thing is that wand part. You generally need a wand to do them and control them.
So, while Avery more or less figured out how to speed up certain things in the studio by using magic and is able to at least not get caught using magic by speaking weird spell words, it became increasingly hard to do anything because his hands are always occupied.
The only logical solution is to get rid of the need for a wand, as well as being able to use magic without speaking out loud. Thus began the journey of Avery spending any of the spare time he did have practicing not using a wand to perform his spells.
Although it quickly proved easier said than done.
Avery had thought that since he could already control his metamorphmagus ability without a wand and found nonverbal magic rather easy, using magic without a wand would be a piece of cake. He ended up very quickly needing to start by using verbal spells again, and this meant that he needed to practice even further away from the eyes of his mother's friends and customers, which took him away from his work with his mother. In true Hufflepuff, and just Avery, fashion, that made him even more determined to get it quickly. The whole point of it was to help him and his mother work quicker.
So, back to the beginning it was, with Avery working more and more to use his wand less and less, and, eventually, he got it. Once he felt he had the wandless part down, he worked on wandless with verbal spells first until he could cast any spell he wanted every time, and then worked on wandless with nonverbal spells until he could do the same.
After all of this hard work, he was delighted to find that he didn't even need to do the "proper" spell work when performing magic anymore. The rest of his magic was as innate as his metamorphmagi abilities, and he could use it even in the most hung-up of circumstances, like carrying a heavy piece of artwork across the lawn.

- In the final part you say that he didn't need to do the proper spell work anymore. In the description of wandless magic it states, "You still need to use the verbal component as well as make a physical gesture". I understand that you mostly mean just not having to do the complex wand movement but please be specific as to avoid issues. While carrying you would still need to be able to wave your hand or snap your fingers.

Makaio since childhood has been a daredevil. Climbing cliffs, facing off against wild animals on his many hikes with his family through the Hawaiian wilderness. He has never been one to back down from a fight even when the odds were stacked against him. He always managed to find some clever way to gain the upper hand no matter how difficult. As a child, one story is when he came face to face with a wild boar, a highly aggressive wild animal that was able to serious maime its targets or much worse. At 10, he stood his ground and right before it charged him, something - perhaps his father - bigger scared it off. In school, he was known for his death-defying stunts. One such stunt was when he would jump off a cliff and accio his broom to himself mid-fall saving himself before he splattered across the ground. This always resulted in cheers and gasps as well as scolding from various authority figures that karma would eventually catch up to him.
Stunts and wild answers were the only things that focused his ability to be brave in the face of danger. In school he was not as strong as he is now. It’s hard to believe but Makaio was quite the shrimp as a student and always picked on. The bullying stopped as he grew older and he started to get stronger, but in his early years it was especially painful. He had an accent many found offensive and didn’t look like everyone else. It wasn’t until he got into a fight with a particular student, a charming boy known to be a werewolf and intimidating when he was angry. Makaio faced him down just as he had the wild boar years ago. This time, there was no father to save him, and he was ready for it. After that victory, he never flinched or backed down from a fight no matter how tough the opponent was. It would be an ability that served him countless times in his adult life as well, tracking, hunting, and fighting his way through life. The only thing it would not help him over come is the death of his dearly beloved wife. He could face any challenge or obstacle no matter how great. However, that was a level of pain he had never experienced before, having that support system indeed made him ultimately fearless.

The need to be impartial is very important to Makaio. He learned throughout his life that he could only depend on what a person did, not what a person looked like, as a true test of their character.
His parents were taskmasters. The softer of the two was his father, who was quick to give lessons through story telling but still demanded he pay attention and memorize the legends and myths of his people. His mother, on the other hand, solved problems with the rod. Whenever he messed up or made a mistake there was always a thwap not too far away. Together they instilled a demand for fairness in their only son. They were harsh but only corrected him when discipline was owed. He must respect nature and people and that required him to be equitable. When ever he complained that something wasn’t fair they were quick to show him what fair actually meant - and it never left him feeling pleased that he found out.
This bore itself out in his school life. He was a daredevil, sure, but he was also a friend to those in need. He often made friends with, and protected people considered misfits or riffraff, especially as he got older and stronger, better able to defend himself and others. He was not only a friend to those looked down on by the other students but also, and most importantly to himself, he cared deeply for nature. In one instance a half-Veela, who went to the school, treated one of the creatures poorly. Makaio stepped in to tell her to stop being so mean to the animal. Despite her allure, it was broken the moment he saw how helpless this creature was. Stepping into between the two, he drew his wand, steadfast in his resolve to let this girl’s presence not stop him from doing what was right. “Pick on someone who can fight back,” Makaio seethed ready to cast at a moment’s notice. Surprisingly the girl relented with a snide remark and left.
Makaio developed, thanks to his upbringing and school experiences, a particular brand of justice that required him to do the right thing no matter who else was influencing a situation. He would remain clear minded and impartial. This would serve him exceedingly well become sometimes the darkest evil he faced came in the most beautiful of packages. One can’t simply let looks determine the outcome of a mission, if so he had no business out on the field.

Ability: Spell spread (Third Year) - Word Count: 435STATUS: Approved, Ruby, May 30
Reducio
Makaio was always loud and boisterous, a class clown if ever there was one. His personality in school was often larger than life and he took risks associated with the maintenance of that reputation. He was a go big or go home kind of persona and often came off as overbearing. This manifested itself also in his spellwork. Always competitive and always had to be bigger and better than the rest. If someone could cast a spell, he had to do it faster and better. In duels he was constantly on the hunt for a larger display of magical prowess to overwhelm his opponents. This ability served him well in his hunting of poachers as there were more often than not more of them than there were of him!
It wasn’t until third year however when he really nailed down the art of the spell spread. Makaio had been hard at work on transfiguring two mice into cups as fast as he could. One and then the other, always in order and never at the same time. He cursed his luck, he should definitely be able to do two at once. He saw other students do it in a duel to surprising effect, why couldn’t he do it to two innocent mice. Again and again he drilled and drilled to no avail. He just wasn’t getting it at all. Until one evening he was practicing in the study when all of a sudden one of his friends paid a random girl to give him a fright. Instead of the spike of adrenaline ruining his casting, it was able to amplify it to critical success. He had successfully transfigured two mice into two separate cups at the same time. He wanted to scold this girl for scaring him but if she hadn’t shocked him out of his frustration this never would have happened. He would forget this girl’s existence for another two years but it was none other than his future wife: Leilani.
Now that he was able to do it once, Makaio would focus more effort on achieving this feat especially with a focus on his interest in transfiguration attempting to achieve more impressive castings to impress more and more people. His third year was about thriving on the praise of others even if he never felt he could never impress his parents.
HIs spell spread technique came in handy as a quick way to incapacitate enemies with the element of surprise in his various different field assignments, or to quickly transfigure targets so that he could quickly and easily carry them away to safety.

Ability: Perfectionist (Fourth Year) - Word Count: 407STATUS: Approved, Ruby, May 30
Reducio
Perfection means different things to different people. Until fourth year, Makaio had been running away from such labels. Shirking responsibility as if it was the plague all to spite his overbearing and disappointed parents. The more they wondered if he’d ever grow up, the more he rebelled against them. He’d prove to them that they were…right? Something about turning 15 made him realize that perhaps his behavior was just proving they had a point. If he wanted to prove them wrong he’d need to…be responsible.
During Makaio’s fourth year, he started to embarrass his natural casting ability. He had already developed a unique casting ability as well as put so much time into learning all kinds of transfiguration spells already. Sure he had other spells he could cast but he always gravitated toward using transfiguration in new and novel ways even if the spells themselves were old and considered useless. Perfection to Makaio meant not only casting perfectly and without failure, but it also meant casting the right spell a spell that put the magic back into…well…magic.
He loved nothing more than surprising his opponents or any kind of romantic partner, those were the two kinds of people for the young Makaio - he either wanted to snag you or curse you. There really was no in-between. Instead of doing his homework, he wasn’t that committed to being a good student yet, he spent his time writing down scenarios in which to use various spells. Transfiguring a pair of bunnies into slippers and then untransfiguring them…well hopefully the person wasn’t wearing the slippers but it seemed like a funny joke at the time! Or one of his favorite tricks, casting herbivicus with his spell spread ability to make flowers bloom at the same time for whatever date he happened to be on. He had the perfect spell for the perfect occasion and that was what perfection meant to Makaio.
While his philosophy looks different today, it’s this kind of problem solving skills that continued to help him escape tricky situation after tricky situation. One time escaping from such a tight spot in a dangerous mission, his handler could have sworn he was going to lose another good agent. However, the way that Makaio has consistently and uniquely understand what it meant to be a perfectionist, has kept him safe and more importantly his wife Leilani, constantly happy with always giving the perfect gift.

While perfection may mean different things to different people, our ability Perfectionist on site functions to reduce one’s chance of critical failure. Makaio’s creativity sounds interesting, but I don’t think it explains why he wouldn’t critically fail – please rewrite the application slightly to better reflect what the Perfectionist ability does.

This is the year that changed everything for Makaio. He was a rising star in the dueling club despite the lack of punch in his casting, he was already showing signs of being resourceful. From his spell spread ability, to avoiding any of the intimidations or infatuations of his enemies, to rarely failing to cast - even when a target is missed. Makaio was definitely someone worth keeping on the team and quickly proved himself invaluable when he gained yet another tool in his toolbox: wandless magic.
Makaio had just found the one woman that was right for him, a girl by the name of Leilani whom he swore he never met before according to his recollection. The two quickly became fast friends and soon…they started dating. It was always in moments of crisis that Makaio shined brightest.
There was this other girl, Jasmine, who hated Leilani with a passion, jealous of her racing prowess and popularity in school. One day, Jasmine cornered the young Leilani in a hallway, wand out, ready to teach her a lesson. Makaio rounded the corner and jumped in front of his girlfriend to take whatever was coming for him.
“Expelliarmus!” Jasmine bellowed and before he knew it, his wand was out of his way. “Of course you get in the middle of this! Stay out of this!” She screeched, raising her wand to take a bite out of her enemy’s defender as well.
Makaio, wandless and head searching for answers, did the only thing he could do. The most famous of first year dueling spells came to his mind, a spell he cast so many times he could probably (and probably has) done it in his sleep. “Flipendo!” Makaio said, quicker than his opponent, wand movement with his finger and pointing at Jasmine. As if it he was holding his wand, the spell hit Jasmine, slamming her against the wall. Grabbing his wand, and his girl, Makaio got out of there as quick as he possibly could!
Even to this day, Makaio carries his wand, and prefers the dependency and the strength he feels with his casting. However, when push came to shove in a fight with traffickers, or when he really just wanted to impress Leilani, he’d always fall back on his ability to cast magic without his wand. If anything, it served him well in an element of surprise, since he almost always casted magic with his wand. Disarming him, only left his opponents surprised that it didn’t slow him down.

Ah, seventh year. This saw Makaio at his most romantic by far. Whatever Leilani wanted, he strived to get it (or at least secretly transfigure some junk into it hoping she wouldn’t notice). Date night every week? Check. Frequent trips to Hogsmeade? Check. Magically romantic dinners by the lake? Double check. Makaio spent much of this year trying to think of more and more ways to surprise the girl he was certain he was going to marry. For her part, Leilani was not easily fooled and knew that her boy was a man of modest means. She just loved so much that he tried his hardest and his transfiguration skills were second to none at this point. She loved his use of magic and how he was always there for her.
Makaio though had one huge surprise left. One that he had been working for months secretly. He recruited the help of a mentor proficient in nonverbal magic and set about making the ultimate surprise for his girlfriend. The regiment was not just difficult it nearly proved impossible. They first tried to ease into it but Makaio faced several different blocks along the way from the way he casted his magic and some bad habits and short cuts along the way. This lead to increasing the difficulty. If he wasn’t going to do it the systematic way, his mentor thought, Makaio should lean into his adhoc, adventure seeking tendencies. He felt as if he was that boy again climbing a cliff with his father, fighting to find his own way even though he was being shown the proper way to do things.
In one intense duel they had, where Makaio wasn’t allowed to either use his wand or his voice, the rule was simple: defend himself using nonverbal magic or take the hit. Things started light with some singed robes due to having to take incendio and nearly getting hit in the chest if he hadn’t dodged in the right time. The spell casting got more and more difficult. Makaio was exhausted and at this point desperate. Every thing he tried failed him. Was he ever going to make this happen!?
His mentor flung one last spell at him, holding up his hands defiantly, focusing as hard as he could, harder than he ever thought possible, the last barrier blocking his way gave way and in the final instant cast, protego to deflect the blast. Had he done it? He collapsed on the practice mat exhausted, his partner clasping him on the shoulder telling him well done. He was sore exhausted but didn’t regret working all night at it. It was for Leilani after all and he’d do much more than this for her.

Applying for: Sixth Year Ability
Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Wandless Magic
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):Reducio(Word count: 910)Ever since he had learned, as a muggle-born boy, about the ability to cast spells without a wand and without speaking verbal words, Jack was fascinated. He had been reading up on both abilities increasingly as he got nearer and nearer to being of the age and experience level of which he could perform both wandless and non-verbal magic. It was one of those magical topics like with animagi, legilimancy, and binding marks that he couldn't seem to research enough about and persisted in doing so long before it was ever mentioned by any of his teachers, in his school curriculums, or in a formal classroom setting. Even so, Jack was used to teaching himself magic as he did regularly by going over textbooks and studying outside of class so that he could turn in his work prior to everyone else being asked to do so and thus appear to slack off in class. Since he had learned how to create a binding mark and become an animagus without much, if any, help from others, he was confident he could do anything he set his mind to whether or not he was taught how to do it as part of his formal education.
The first thing to do was to determine in what order to learn what magical techniques. He knew he had first wanted to learn the binding mark because of the benefit it had provided him and those he held most dear, giving him peace of mind regarding where they were at all times and that they could contact him almost whenever and wherever they were through telepathy since he worried about them so much. He had researched extensively, both about the Dark Mark from Voldemort and his followers as well as the Binding Mark which he had found out was an entirely separate kind of magic. His love of knowledge and learning had definitely come in handy then.
The next thing he had taught himself was how to become an animagus, which had been a testament to his determination and ability to follow directions to a 'T'. His accomplishment of that feat proved how much of a perfectionist he was in almost everything he did, especially performing magic of any kind. He had been very persistent with the tasks he'd needed to carry out no matter how many times he'd needed to practice because his tenacity seemed to know no limits. It had been what he had considered his biggest accomplishment in terms of magic up until that point, especially because he knew not all wizards or witches took the time and trouble to become animagi.
Trying to practice the practicality he had shown in determining what order to learn different abilities by the priority of the purpose toward which he meant to use each, Jack eventually determined that it would be smarter to learn wandless magic before attempting to learn non-verbal magic. After all, after speaking about it with some of his peers, one had pointed out that one would be a lot more likely to find themselves without a wand than to be unable to speak for whatever reason because wands were easier to take away than one's voice. Furthermore, the first thing people tended to do when they wanted to disable a wizard or witch was not to gag them, but to take away their wands. Thus, learning wandless magic first seemed to be the way to go.
The subject of wandless magic, he noticed, was first touched upon in his first year when they had been learning about the wand-lighting charm. It was said in his textbook that as long as one owned a wand and had somewhere around two years of magical experience, they could likely successfully cast the wand-lighting charm, 'lumos', without holding onto the wand if they had a good enough understanding of the spell. Since he had been working on the curriculum prior to the teacher going over it in class - especially charms, which was one of his best subjects if not his favorite - he thought he was able to get a better grasp of the spell before the rest of his peers. And, unlike probably the majority of them, once second year came around, he hadn't forgotten what the book had said about trying to attempt the spell without the wand in your hand once you were experienced in magic for around two years. Soon he was able to cast the wand-lighting charm without his wand in his hand quite easily; his first feat of wandless magic.
From there, his understanding and mastery of the technique only grew. With his ability to teach himself as a prodigal learner, his passion for research and seeking out new knowledge about what fascinated him, and his persistence to keep at an endeavor until he accomplished it, Jack learned more and more little by little over the years with practice. Eventually, by his sixth year, he could say he had mastered the basics and made a good deal of progress as a regular wandless magic-user. His perfectionism had aided him a great deal as well since even though there was a high risk of failure whenever one attempted to perform wandless magic, Jack was so precise with his attempts that he managed to minimize the damage caused by even his failures to almost nothing. By his sixth year, he was confident in his ability to use magic without a wand.
