The Great Swap Out
It is the start pf a new school year. As such players may be electing to try a different sport. As of this notice players are able to change teams. Meaning if you were a Quidditch Player the 2021-2022 school year and you want to be a Broom Racer this is when you do so. The easiest way to do this is to post in your team's sign up thread and state you are pursing another sport. This will give a time stamp for the other tea to quickly identify that you have left your previous team if it takes several days for the Captain to process your request or I process it on my monthly rounds. This way you can sign up for another position.
Remember: all positions are first-come, first serve. Also you need to be registered (with stats) in Index. Finally, to maintain your position you need to remain 'active.' Activity is defined as posting at least once a month on site in any forum (including out of character chat areas) as well as actively posting in your sport during a game. If you miss a deadline, your action will not go-off placing your team at a distinct disadvantage. If you miss posting twice in a row, then you will be removed from the team.
The Great Swap Out ends at the start of the next sport game. So if the first game (hypothetically) is Oct 20 for Quidditch, then you would need to announce your intent to change teams before then. This is not only polite to your team and captains who really would want to know before the last minute but also because you would be holding a position that other players could be enjoying.

The First Task -- Hexwizard Tournament [Wizard Chess]
The first task is a life-sized game of chess (with modifications). Information regarding Wizard Chess can be found in [this thread]. The match will take place in the Ballroom. The pairings were determined randomly and can be found in the #roll channel in our Discord Server.

Hexwizard Updates
The player Santario Martin has decided to step down from the role of Hexwizard Champion due to real life obligations leaving her with inadequate time to concentrate on the tournament. She was playing Angélique Colette de Clairmont representing Beauxbatons. She states that she will also be unable to play in the Hexwizard as an ally of the champion due to time constraints, She will be replaced by Hugh Lowe playing as Cassanora Browne as the Champion for Beauxbatons, the 'special person' for Beauxbatons will remain unchanged.
Speaking of 'special persons', Falenta Black stated that she was not going to be active and while she has not technically deactivated she has stated that she will not be here for the year. Howard White, representing Hogwarts, has been notified of this and a replacement was found, Thomas LeStrange. His account is presently deactivated but will be reactivated on Oct 16. He has agreed to be Howard White's 'special person' for the Hexwizard Tournament.
As for abilities in the first task, Blindvision has been given an update. Blindvision will make it possible for a user to target (with a ranged attack) pieces past allied of enemy spaces at -5 accuracy.

Artober Changes --- Postponed but Better!
(Or rather, in five months)
For the past few years, we have been holding an art event during the month of October called Artober. This year, I'm sorry to say that we have decided to postpone this. I know some of you will be disheartened by this news, however, we do believe this is the best going forward. We have a lot going on this month and it's always a very busy time for people - what with the three official sports starting, the always hectic ball, iNPCs visiting, NaNoWriMo Prep Month and just in real life with all of the festivities coming up.
This year, with the addition of the Hexwizard trials and a new, bigger and improved NaNoWriMo Prep month planned (you'll see tomorrow), it just seems far too much for the season.
Going forward, we are going to host Artober in March (Martch, anyone?) instead. We are also changing it up to make it bigger, better and more inclusive of the variety of art forms that the community love. It will be different to previous Artobers because of this. However, we hope you will really like it as it includes writing opportunities and coding opportunities for all of you coders out there (and those who are specifically here to write).
Why March? Well, to be honest, we are pretty busy throughout this year and have a lot planned with the Hexwizard Tournament, as well as everything else going on. By our calculations, March has slightly less going on and this will hopefully allow more people to get involved, without feeling overwhelmed or struggling to take part in everything.
This new version of Artober is more reflective of our community and allows coders or writers who don't wish to do any drawings/paintings etc to still be involved in some way, so we hope that it will be as popular (or even more popular) than Artober has been in the past. Perhaps it will even reignite your creativity during the month of March. More information will be released by the 1st of March 2023 pertaining to this year's prompts.

iNPCs Visiting
iNPCs from Ilvermorny, Durmstrang, Beauxbatons, Mahoutokoro, Koldovstoretz and Castelobruxo are invited to join Hogwarts in October for the Autumn ball and the first trial of the Hexwizard Tournament. Arriving on the 5th October, iNPCs will be around for the ball, the sports threads and the hexwizard tournament. They will leave just after the hex task - on the 24th October.
5th October to 24th October
Join the Welcome Feast here. During their visit, iNPCs will reside in the campgrounds. There are no specific tents or cabins but assume that each school stays in their own accommodation or cabin, and you can't visit other dorms.
Dates for iNPCs to know:
5th October - iNPCs arrive at Hogwarts. [Entrance thread here].
7th October - Hexwizard Demonstration [Thread here] - Private to hexwizard team members
23rd October - Hexwizard Tournament Task 1 [Threads coming soon]
24th October - iNPCs go back to their schools - There is no thread for this. Assume they left the same way they arrived on the morning on 24th

Preptober is here!
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is next month and in order to help those of you who wish to take part, we are releasing our own prep month starting today called Preptober. This time, we have four tasks for you as well as weekly writing prompts. Participants can choose to partake in either one of these or both if they wish to. They both have different rewards and deadlines.
