Task 1: Chess Combat
Time: 630 am
Location: Rehearsal Room
Means of Invitation: A handwritten letter that was unsigned
The students had barely a chance to settle in before they were drawn into whatever this was. They had arrived on Wednesday, October 5th by port key, due to the frequency of transit and the burden of travel the schools would endure over this year to participate in these games it seemed only logical. Yet there were some concerns raised over this 'security breech' being made for modern convenience. This meant that Hogwarts could be entered and left with relative ease and minimal trace. A concern that was dismissed by the Minister of Magic, something that he would hopefully not live to regret.
The letter arrived Thursday evening, slid under the door of the cabins that the students of Ilvermorny, Beauxbatons, Durmstrang, Mahoutokoro and Koldovstoretz addressed to the school's respective Champion: Yefim Rumyantsev (played by Flash Holmwood representing Durmstrang), Aryaan Shamsi (played by hui Ming representing Mahoutokoro), Angélique Colette de Clairmont (played by Santario Martin representing Beauxbatons Academy of Magic), Miles Thatcher (played by Simon Kincaid representing Ilvermorny) and Rodion Makarovich (played by Aurora Ranvier representing Koldovstoretz). It was possible that some of the champions never got, bothered to read or bothered to come, but that would be an opportunity forfeited along with potential glory.
The letter was sealed with a bit of white wax, embossed with the image of a phoenix. The envelope heavy, made of fine paper and the letter inside a single cream colored sheet that was folded once down the center in a single crisp line. The words were written with a silvery ink, thick hand scrawled script.
Date: October 7This thread is intended to be a thread to demonstrate a sample chess game. This thread is also serving to demonstrate meddling from adults and a political climate that undermines the presence of halfbreeds in the wizarding community.
This demonstration was set-up by the Headmasters of Ilvermorny, Mahoutokoro and Castelobruxo. The Champions and the entire team of every school less Hogwarts was invited to the Rehearsal Room for a practice demonstration.

There was no name, just a time and a place to be with the promise of information, an advantage and an opportunity for the Champion and those who have allied with them. The exception clearly Hogwarts, the statement that they were not actual wizards not well hidden between the lines. A not-so-uncommon sentiment. There was rightful concern among many wizards that the community would be overrun by these monsters rather than men, further diluting and polluting their bloodlines.Salutations Champion;
As you may or may not be aware, the first task is to be a form of wizarding chess. Wizarding chess being a gentleman's game, this version is of a grander form where you and your allies will be serving as the pieces on a board in what would prove to be a rather dangerous game. Concerned members of the wizarding community have decided to reach out and provide a demonstration of how the game might be played.
If you are interested in witnessing this display, please come to the Rehearsal Room with your team members tomorrow, Friday October 7 at 630 in the morning. There will be space for all who come. The only people we have no interest in facilitating are the half-breeds that have been propagating in Hogwarts. This is a wizard-only event.
Signed
A Friend of Wizards
Hogwarts will be invited to join here in a week if players post or not.

Hexwizard Demonstration Thread
Introduction Post
A demonstration game was set up for the purpose of showing the media as well as the Champions how Chess Combat will play out. The Rehearsal Room was cleared of clutter and a massive checkered board covered the central portion of the well-lit room. Chairs were situated around the perimeter of the room, a safe distance from the board. There were several signs, warnings for spectators that they should 'stay back' and that it was 'unsafe' written in English and Japanese. Concerning, but the Hexwizard Tournament, like the Triwizard Tournaments of the past were known to be dangerous, life-threatening even. Assurances of safety seemed to have about as much of a meaning as 'just one chip' being uttered.
The match would start with a disembodied chime that came from an undefined source, and the students of Castelobruxo would take a single step forward onto the board. The young men and women, still tan from the summer and dressed in casual attire would seemingly transform before the eyes of the spectators. The King was wearing sandals, an oversized tank and a pair of baggy long shorts with sloppy appearing pockets and hand combed hair. Now, however, he was wearing princely attire and a long, fur-trimmed cape that was clasped over his shoulders. Everything was ivory white, at least for that King. The other King, the inversion of the aforementioned, in silky black robes and a great fur-lined black cape. Both young men would look at their hands and look across the board at the other, wordlessly pointing their finger and letting out a laugh.
This was the case for the entire board, from the Bishops to the Knights, to even the queen. One of the queens was being played by a young man, admittedly the dress still seemed to work for him.

The students about to play were from Castelobruxo, in an apparent effort to ensure those watching this demonstration were not clued into the potential of their competition. "it is about to start," Headmaster Plott announced as he motioned with his hands that everyone needed to sit down.Interested NPCs being anyone participating in the Hexwizard Tournament as a Champion or a member of their Team are welcome to in-character spectate. Hogwarts will be coming later to 'spectate' in character for the sake of a plot.

There was a request for the various points in the baord state, how the pieces move. It is honestly a lot to read on a single image, so I have broken it down into 4 images:
Action Phase Movements:
This being Arty moving in front of Charles (orange)
This being Jerry and Maria changing start positions. (orange)
This being Maxwell using Hide behind (light blue)
This being Travis moving in front of Maxwell in case of an attack (light blue)

Movement Phase Movements:
This being the normal movement from each piece.
Red being used to describe the black side.
Green being used to describe the white side.
Please note how there is a shared square D6 that both queens have moved to.

These last 2 pieces needed to do a contested roll for this position. The black queen is forced back, meaning she would have moved back one space in the direction from which she came, meaning she ended the round on D7.
However D7 was occupied by another piece, the black knight. There was another contested strength check for this, the Black queen was victorious so the Black Knight was moved back 1 space in the direction from which she came.
That would have resulted in the following board state, the contested movement in pink.

There is an aura of effect that would be effecting the pieces around the Queen (damaging them) and the King (buffing them).

It was unlike any game of chess the spectators had ever seen before. In a maddening display of speed, the queens attempted to exchange blows. It would have been disastrous, that critical failure by Enzo that attempted to blow up in his face. However he leaned back as the backlash of his own attack nearly burnt his face off. Undaunted he would move forward onto to wrestle with Paulla who shot forward and they would meet on the black space (D6). Paulla was a burly little girl in site of her diminutive size and she would push Enzo back into Consuela. Consuela was unprepared for her own ally to come stumbling back and she would be knocked off her perch, staggering backwards (C7). The disorientation of not being where either of them intended would likely have disastrous consequences as their attempt to surround their King, their 'champion' was already breeched.
King Charles, a grand young King in raven-like robes would release an awesome aura that was visible. the air seemed to sparkle a bit, as if gold dust was seeping from his pores. Meant to vitalize his allies, Queen Paulla would be an unintended intruder. Enhanced by Charles impressive presence, she would need to be put down sooner than later.
Raul and Arty were in front of their King, creating a sort of human barrier. No harm was supposed to come to their respective King and nothing would have, Arty's fast movement, he served as a barrier against potential assault, not that any could come. However he would suffer the same fate as his allies as the White Queen cozied up to the lot of them and a dark miasma would flow from the hem of her long, white skirt. It was a noxious, choking fume that would leave them coughing.
Meanwhile, the White Team appeared to bee creating a less organized line-up. Their White Knight, Wade was in the open and their forces appeared to be spread confidently across the board. Was there a greater plan or was the team simply disorganized and seeking glory.

The White Queen was a target of a great may attacks, however Paulla stood against her fellow Brazillians in this melee. Enzo would be taken down, only to recover from their near-death experience. Some were simply too stubborn to stay down, or one might think., That terrible darkness that seemed to seep from beneath Paulla's hem continued to choke out those nearest her, including her own ally Jeanne who foolishly step within the confined of the darkness.
Meanwhile the Champions were holding their own. Wade was on the attack and accepted a holy boon from his Bishop Lexi. Travis and Wade both had a rosy hue from their boons. Charles was hidden behind Mary and remained safe from potential harm, but one of the Headmaster's was warning Charles that he does not want to work himself into a corner -- it was dangerous!
A hidden horror however might be the powerhouse Jerry... he had just cut through nearly half of the most durable member of the White Team, Jim in a single blow. Impressed it would seem by his own strength, he readied himself for another attack which might prove to be someone's last if they are on the receiving end.

In the following map, the movement phase is defined by the movement of several pieces. During the action phase, the white pieces moved and there was a light blue arrow showing their movements. The black pieces had no movement during the action phase. During the movement phase both the black pieces (using red) and white pieces (using green) made movements on the board. There was a contested space between the black and white knight for a shared space that resulted in the black knight being pushed back one space. This movement was marked in yellow.

There is movement during the movement phase for 2 white pieces (shown in green) and a forced movement secondary to a strength check on a single black pice that is shown with a yellow line.

Movement Phase:
White Bishop (Lexi) moved to E4
White King (Maxwell) moved to F5
Forced Movement:
F5 was already occupied by Black Rook (Arty) when White King (Maxwell) tried to occupy the space. This resulted in a contested strength check that Arty lost, they were forced to move 1 space in a random direction that was unoccupied. This resulted in movement to G4.
