Dennis was raised to be a good judge of character first. From childhood he has been a champion of people who have been cast as “misfits.” People who have been placed in the category of “different.” He learned through encounters with school bullies as well that not everyone in those categories are good people.

When Dennis came to Hogwarts he continued to display these same qualities. Who you are and even what you’ve done in the past made little difference to him. Who you are and what you do in the moment, he found is a far better indicator of not only who a person is but also who they wish to be. This doesn’t mean he is flawless in his assessment but rather that he insists on letting everyone prove for themselves who they are on their own terms. Here are a few stories that demonstrate this pattern of behavior that have developed over the last two years, highlighting specifically that looks don’t impress him much.

Dennis is a known friend to goblin-kind. He not only eats with them but also plays with them to cheer them up and even plays along with their pranks. While this doesn’t, by itself account for his development of the ability, it lays the foundation for it by highlighting that looks don’t factor into his decision making.

Now two other examples that will prove his impartiality. A tale of two lovely creatures. The first an Chinese student whom he met in the hall outside of the Room of Requirement. As pretty as the girl was, Dennis was oblivious to her presence because of the fact she was holding a skateboard. He did end up going on several fun adventures with this girl. But it was never her looks that drew him to her but her soul and the brave person she really was.

On the opposite side of that coin, it was never that Dennisnis just a friendly kind guy. While he certainly turned a blind eye for the sake of friendship, looks didn’t matter when it came to foes either. Enter one Prat Pass whom Dennis met one frustrating day. Instead of finding his face distractingly alluring, Dennis found it punchable. And punch he did. Walking down the stairs to the dungeon, without so much as a “how do you do,” Dennis let his fist do the talking, unimpeded by the Slytherin’s dashing looks.

Who he fights and who he befriends has nothing to do with looks and neither is he intimidated or abnormally attracted to people because of them. Dennis, in many senses of the words, is impartial. (Word Count: 437)

About this ability:

Aiker is very curious and interested when it comes to animals. When he was more little, let say 5 or 6 years old, his parents brought a little farm outside the house they lived. Aiker helped his parents choose a couple of horses and cows that would live in the little farm. He named every single one. He loved to help feed them and just watch them do their thing. He would sit on the bench just outside his house and observe all the little animals that the place hide. His journals were full of drawing of birds and animals that he came across when meeting his own.
After a few year, they had to sell the cows and send them away because of the money they needed to send him to school and buy the necessary for his new journey. He cried for a week, falling asleep between the horses and hugging them so they wouldn't go. He spend the rest of the week drawing all of the cows he remembered so he wouldn't forget them. On the farm there where two horses left when he left for school.

All of this leaned him into the world of animals and their care. So one thing that he kept in his mind when he received his Hogwarts admission letter was the kinds of animals he would get to know about. And with that thought in mind, the first thing he did when going buy the things needed for his school year was buy the book about these animals. "Fantastic beasts and where to find them". What a beauty. The next couple of days, he spent his time reading and learning all about these new creatures. Drawing them and learning all their kinds and secrets. He wished he was the writer of the book, but he completely destroyed the books from how many notes and sketches he putted on it.

So, his parents learned about his obsession with magical creatures and beasts soon enough. And, after buying another Newt Scamander book he could bring to school and actually use it, they kept gifting him lots and lots of books on the matter, almost all of them where torn apart and turned into diaries were Aiker would collect the same species and classified them into categories. All his vacations from the letter arriving (Except the week of mourning) to his travel to Hogwarts was full of learning and drawings all bout these beings. He was really into it.
But, when the day for leaving arrived, Aiker was facing his bed full of these journals, he was very aware that he couldn't bring all of them with him, so he gifted all of his favorites to his parents, in hope that they could remember him better with them The last thing he draw on one of them was a Kelpie floating on the water with his horse form, and a note that says "Be careful with this one".

Linnéa stood in the middle of the dance studio, the polished wooden floor gleaming under the bright lights. Sweat glistened on her brow as she furiously repeated the same pirouette that the teacher had them practie during this class, her brows furrowed in determination. One... two... three spins—then wobbled slightly. Her lips pressed into a thin line of frustration.

"Again," she muttered under her breath, ignoring the ache in her calves. The other students had long since filed out of the room, but Linnéa wasn't done. Not until she nailed it perfectly. Well, and she might as well get some work done while she waited for her mother to pick her up. After dance class, she had the next activity to attend to. All her hobbies - passions - tightly lined up to make the most of her time. She was just lucky that she seemed to have a natural affilation for all of them. Not without the hard work, of course.

It was the same with everything she loved. Whether it was mastering a new, cool jump in her figure skates, or adding sparkles in a carefully planned out pattern on one of her designs, Linnéa just wanted to be the best at everything. Her sketchbook was filled with drawings, each accompanied by small, critical notes in the margins: "proportions wrong," "shade better," "needs depth."

At the stable, her dedication was no less fierce. While her friends brushed their horses with casual strokes, Linnéa spent extra time grooming until the coat of her horse was glowing. Every little piece of dust only made her want to keep going. A relentless pursuit, since horses liked to get dirty. "You're going to be the prettiest horse," she'd whisper to Tally, though part of her knew it was her own relentless drive speaking. Good thing she didn't stay long enough after releasing her in the pasture to see her roll around in mud, ruining all her efforts.

Her mother often said, "It's okay to make mistakes, Linnéa. That’s how you learn." Not that her efforts were ever bad, in fact, people always seemed impressed by her, but they could always be better. Already at her young age, she had many talents. Yet, Linnéa couldn't help but believe that if she just tried harder, practiced longer, everything would come out right. And when it didn't—when stitches tangled, drawings looked off, or she stumbled on the ice—Linnéa felt an unbearable weight settle in her chest.

Today, though, the dance studio was her battleground. She took a deep breath, positioning herself once more. Perfection might be a hard master, but giving up was never an option.

Name of Ability that you Are Applying for - Calming Presence
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it) - WC 555

Ever since she could remember, Adaryn Misfit soothed and healed those around her. Whether it was helping out her little sister Alita when she had a nightmare or calming her nerves before an important Quidditch match for her cousin Aiden, she didn't have to try hard to set things right-it was just something she did. Some people might have called it a gift, but to Adaryn, it was just something she came by naturally.

Her family was often amazed at how spontaneous tension seemed to melt away around Adaryn. Her mother would joke that she had a voice "like a warm, soothing cup of tea," while her father would remark on how even their Kneazle Moonlight would seek out her company for quietude. Animals, like people, seemed to recognize the feeling of safety she provided. Moonlight loved to just lie next to Adaryn and enjoy her company, pleasantly purring while Adaryn read and worked on crafts. It was not that she never got stressed or frustrated herself; quite the opposite. Somehow she managed to remain calm in situations where others would be pulling their hair out, and this soothing energy she projected would sometimes carry over to people and situations around her.

Such a phenomenon of soothing energy became not so uncommon at Hogwarts. Although she started out shy, Adaryn soon noticed that her classmates turned to her for reassurance, whether it was butterflies before a big exam or frustration over a tricky spell. She would not pressure anyone into confiding in her, but if they chose to, she offered her full attention and careful words. Those she listened to relaxed because of her calmness and focus, which also gave them strength to attempt again. In group situations, whether working together on plants in Herbology or learning a new technique in Flying, the presence of Adaryn seemed to help people become steady, clear their minds, and gather their focus.

Yet her so-called calming magic could operate without words. Adaryn, in disrupted situations-whether it was an exhilarating match, a dueling battle, or a tricky lesson on broomstick control-was the person just being there who helped the general atmosphere would retain tranquility. While all others might be frazzled or doubtful of their abilities, Adaryn was calm, which enabled the others to focus on their skills and spells. Though she would not preferentially fight her way to the forefront or demand to be heard, her quiet presence made the difference between a shaky attempt and a confident success.

The look of her body has an effect that supports this. She is open and assuring in her body language, often tilting her head just slightly in attentiveness, steady in her mass, even when those around her are panicking. Her expressive face, soft voice, and warm nature encourage trust. Even her laughter, light and genuine, can find the way to calm others.

Adaryn never consciously sought out this ability-it was simply natural to her. An assuring glance, a few well-placed words, or merely her presence all worked wonders in relaxing someone. That kind of quality is all the more visible at Hogwarts, thus allowing her allies to do their absolute best. She may not be the strongest or the most aggressive, yet that is where her strength lies-something equally powerful, the power to pacify in the eye of the storm.

The youngest Vasilios was like snow. Let me explain.

Eulalia was lovely, there was no doubt about it. Her mother ensured she always was looking her best everywhere she went. Eirini was so focused on the family figure, and one of the best ways to enhance the family figure was to ensure that her children always looked the part they were--Vasilios family heirs.

So, Eirini made sure her children's hair never had any split ends and was styled to perfection, perfectly combed in place for Niko or elegantly done up for Eulalia, decorated with expensive accessories in whatever hairstyle her hair had been pulled into. She ensured that the clothing her daughter and son wore looked expensive and radiated the elegance of the Vasilios family. She made sure that they always looked her best at every family gathering, at every ball, at every party, and whenever she was out of the manor.

Many complimented Eirini on her gorgeous daughter and handsome son, always asking what hair products or lotions or magical serums or oils were used on Eulalia and Niko. Most showered compliments on the young girl who would always say a 'thank you' in return before looking up to her mother who held a proud smile on her lips at her accomplishment. Eulalia was her canvas, her masterpiece that she always wanted to perfect. And this habit carried on as she grew up, without Eirini's help.

As Eulalia got older, she grew not just into her beauty, but into herself. With her enchanting honey-brown eyes, her perfectly smooth skin, and her long, wavy, nicely kept hair, she looked just like the image of perfection her mother had wished for her.

But this beauty was deceiving to many.

Her sweet, honey-brown eyes which seemed inviting and warm, were cool with calculation and ambition. Her rounded and symmetrical face wore a constant mask of deceitful kindness, the coldness inside only given away by her indifferent expressions until she spoke with unwavering confidence and an icy smooth voice. Eulalia wasn't exactly the kindest, and it took a long time to break down her guards. She was untrusting and secretive and indifferent and guarded.

Despite her cold nature, Eulalia remained magnificent and her beauty remained deceitful and distracting, fooling others into thinking of a soft, gentle, and alluring girl with unmatched kindness, and Eulalia knew it. The kind features that made her lovely and had tricked so many, but even as they saw her true self and who she was, they weren't ever truly driven away. Eulalia could always feel the lingering and admiring eyes.

And so, in a way, she was so similar to snow--cold, but so very beautiful.

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):

As Aulis's sixteenth birthday approached at the end of his fifth year, Aulis grew more and more worried that his Sight would show itself in a delayed manner. He had not had any flashes of prophecy yet, something his mother had already had by his age, nor was his hair whitening as hers had. To combat this, Aulis decided to fake it until he made it and took to creating false prophecies. Now, in order to be believed as a Seer, your prophecies must come true, and fake predictions necessitate fake truths - so Aulis's prophecies were quite small, things that could be satisfied with a well-placed spell. However, the spellcasting would give him away, and thus at the end of his fifth year, Aulis took to working on casting spells without saying anything aloud. At least for now, he could be subtle with his wand-waving and focus on wandless casting later, but being quiet would help him hide it at first.

As Aulis had always been one of Koldovstoretz's strongest duellists, he had been expected to excel this year. Like always, multiple of his Vedmaki pulled him aside at the beginning of the year to warn him not to go easy on his classmates, for they would need stronger casters such as Aulis to teach the weaker casters how to thrive under pressure. However, Aulis's self-focus on nonverbal magic made his duelling take a nosedive for the first time ever, and he took to losing duels even to the weakest casters in his year simply because he refused to say a word while on the piste against them. As such, he landed himself in detention often, forced to scour dried mud from Vedmaki boots, organise the potions yurt's ingredients stores, and wash the Group 1 blankets in the lake following certain accidents. However, this just gave him even more opportunities to practice (especially levitation of the aforementioned blankets, because there was no way the pompous fraud of a Seer was going to touch those).

However, as the year went on, the teenager's nonverbal abilities improved, little by little. Soon he was able to levitate the soiled blankets, clean the muddy boots, and even fix shattered vials in the potions storeyurt; it took longer to be able to cast defensive and offensive spells, especially ones that would hold up against his classmates' spoken ones, but the Shield Charm was the first to come, and after that the rest followed suit. Though he did try to hide his newfound nonverbal abilities from his classmates, some did figure it out from keen observations during class, though no one thought anything of it as Aulis had always been a duellist and one to sharpen his spellcasting abilities. By the end of his fifth year, nonverbal magic was certainly a skill of his. (468 words)

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):

After mastering nonverbal magic at the end of his fifth year, Aulis turned his attention to wandless casting, knowing that if he were to silently cast without moving a muscle, the chances of his false prophecies' magic being caught were infinitesimally small. He already knew how to cast without saying a word - now, he was determined to cast magic without anyone knowing whatsoever.

Not that he wasn't proud of his cherrywood wand, but he started leaving it in his yurt with the rest of his things and his sleeping quarters whenever it was time to attend a casting class. To get away with this more easily, he also put in a special request to switch groups from 5 to 7, leaving militaristic duelling magic behind in favour of nature magic and divination, something he had always loved studying in his free time anyway. It worked - one didn't need their wand quite as much in herbology class as they did in charms, and even better, Aulis also started getting better at divination - and at faking it.

Having been moved to group 7, with a focus on natural magic, Aulis's favourite activity began predicting future inclement weather and silently, wandlessly trying the Weather-Modifying Charm over and over in his mind until something worked and his "prophecy" came true (often ending in the undoing of any who hadn't believed him and worn their warmer clothing, because snow somehow always ended up shoved down their backs). He tried new things each month, moving on to harder and harder spells to cast with more difficult and complex wand movements, figuring that the single downward line of the Shield Charm would be much easier to master sans movement than the complicated curves and corners of Salvio Hexia.

Stationary and silent Slippery Jinxes to make students fall after forecasting a "great injury", soundless and static Snake Summons Spells after prophesying of "ghastly creatures", unspoken and motionless Fog-Conjuring Charms after foretelling of "a tremendous blindness" - there were no limits to Aulis's creativity, and the best part of teaching himself to cast without a wand was that he could try over and over as many times as he needed to without anyone knowing of his failures.

He had always hated failures. Now, without having to wave a wand or say an incantation aloud, no one would ever know when he failed, and they would only know of his successes. (400 words)

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):

When Aulis's seventh year rolled around and it became clearer to him that he had not inherited his mother's Sight, the teenager was crushed. He had now been pretending to be a Seer for over a year, and if he were to tell everyone now that it had been nothing but a lie, he would be ruined - his reputation destroyed, his family's trashed, his future gone. As such, Aulis started to look into ways to fake being a Seer beyond petty prophecies and silent wandless magic; it was dawning on him that this would be difficult, if not impossible, to pull off, and a lifelong commitment, though one he was willing to undertake if it meant being welcomed into a family that had long since disowned him and his mother.

Koldovstoretz's library is not nearly as extensive as Hogwarts's, but there were enough scrolls and books for Aulis to learn of the existence of Legilimens - people who could, without a word, read the minds of others and learn their deepest, darkest secrets, sometimes without them even knowing. This was exactly what he had been looking for - a way to predict someone's future given their past. Between this and his innate talent at Divination, particularly with tarot cards and crystal balls, Aulis knew he would be successfully able to fake it.

Unfortunately, the library was not quite so extensive for him to learn it by himself - but luckily, a visiting Vedmak this year was a Legilimens and caught Aulis reading one of the books from the library after lessons one day. He offered to train Aulis in the ways of Legilimency, at the price that his own mind would be read during the lessons; though hesitant to reveal his secret to another, Aulis tentatively agreed. Of course, the Vedmak did discover, through reading Aulis's mind during their first training session, that Aulis was no Seer at all; however, he agreed to keep it a secret, so long as Aulis swore never to create a prediction that would put others in imminent harm, a promise the now-Director has kept even to this day.

Though at first he found it uncomfortable to stare into the eyes of another while casting a spell to read their mind, having always found that it was easier to look away while making his grandiose and fantastical false predictions, he soon grew fond of how it quite literally allowed him to stare into others' souls - not that his trainer had a particularly interesting soul, but nevertheless, the rush he felt when images of the Vedmak's youth flickered through his mind for the first time was unlike anything else. Aulis continuously trained with this Vedmak for the remainder of his time at Koldovstoretz until he had mastered the art of legilimency and could be confidently called a Legilimens. To this day, that lone Vedmak is the only person to have discovered Aulis's deception, and he has, thus far, kept it a secret... (493 words)

Ever since she was a young girl, Kaitlyn took dance lessons and etiquette lessons. She was taught that both were important for a ‘proper young lady’ to learn. Despite being shy, she was always polite to interact with. At her dance recitals, she heard comments directed at her. “Kaitlyn is so pretty!” “Did you see how Kaitlyn commanded the stage?” “Mommy, did you see Kaitlyn’s pirouette? It looked straight out of a princess movie!” These comments certainly made her blush, but it also made her realize just how important her appearance was.

It didn’t take long for Kaitlyn, while taking classes at St. Ann’s all-girls Catholic Boarding School, to begin to worry about her appearance. First, it began with her hair. She was eager to try new hairstyles and could often be found in her dorm in front of the mirror while a video played of a new hairstyle. Once she ‘mastered’ it to her liking, she’d teach her friend group.

Kaitlyn was already pretty obsessed with the visual appearance of her clothing. Her outfits tended to be more feminine, with skirts and dresses, which she absolutely adored. Yet, she didn’t try that hard to make herself more appealing. She wouldn’t start dressing differently. And yet, she became obsessed with dresses whenever she didn’t have to wear the Catholic school’s uniform.

Then came the idea of make-up. She had a weird relationship with make-up. She didn’t want to cake herself too much in make-up, yet had enough on to show she cared. As such, she often sported lipgloss and nail polish. She loved giving herself manicures and pedicures, often for her friends, too. She made sure her hands and feet were well pampered and moisturized and had some colored nail polish applied.

Kaitlyn grew obsessed with jewelry, as well. The first chance she had in her muggle school, she began to make simple pieces of jewelry for herself or her friends. It was nothing that special but friendship bracelets, a necklace, or an anklet. But she quickly fell in love with making earrings. Her most prized earrings were a set of tulip earrings that she made.

Her various muggle friends often complimented her. “You’re so pretty, Kaitlyn!” “You give the best pedicure I’ve seen!” “I love how you always come up with unique outfit pairings!” While she acted bashful at the moment, she liked hearing the compliments.

And now, at Hogwarts, Kaitlyn made sure to continue dressing impeccably. She wears dresses and skirts with sandals whenever she can get away with it. Her uniform is always spotless, no matter what class she is in. If she were ever to get herself dirty, she would take her time to clean up before even setting foot away from the mess. Despite having confidence issues, she was confident in her appearance.

As such, Kaitlyn personifies a lovely creature.

Since Sinclair was old enough to walk, she'd been helping out with chores at her muggle family's farm. This included tending to the chickens and ducks, as well as the gardens harvest. That was mostly her father's realm when it came to how the family earns their income. As for her mother? When Liz Carver was not helping out at the farm, she'd go out with her 12 bore shotgun and hunt in the nearby woods for game to sell. Sinclair had grown up around dirt and grime and the nature that the earth provided, and it was no different when it came to hunting. She insisted to come along to one of her Mom's hunts when she was 5. Apart from seeing her mother haul back the game she secured in the woods, and seeing her skin them and prepare the parts to be sold to nearby inns and restaurants, she'd also seen the pretty antlers her mother brought back from time to time. Her mother took great care to explain where meat comes from and what goes into hunting, taught her the importance of life, death, and to savour and respect these animals. The woman would be out of the house several hours a day depending on the season. Despite the guilt that came from taking an animal's life, Sinclair understood this as part of life's cycle, and naturally wanted to spend more time with her mother. Securing some pretty antlers and bones along the way certainly added to the interest.

But this was hunting. Much different from being careful around the chickens and ducks so she didn't spook them. Sinclair was brought along to these hunts where she'd have to be incredibly quiet, stalking her family's prey next to her mother who would teach her where to step, how to breathe, what to take note of: the tracks, the wind, the animal's behaviour...

"See how the hare stands still? And look over there.. do you notice what it hears? A fox, just beyond those bushes. Shh.. look a little closer... see its pointed ears just above those bushes..?"

And when the moment was right, Liz would tell her daughter to put in her earplugs and remain still. She'd whisper, "Don't hesitate. Take the shot." The barrel of the shotgun would be raised, she'd grip it tight so the butt of the gun digs into her shoulder, and BANG-!

Sinclair has not personally hunted an animal just yet, but after 6 years of joining her mother on these hunts, it's safe to say she's gotten a pretty good handle on the stalking aspect of hunting game. Away from the realm of the forest and animals, she's rather quiet when it comes to human interaction. As a person, she much prefers to stay quiet and observe, and to evaluate the people around her. She often does this in a manner that makes her unnoticed, and has come to the point where she doesn't realise she's doing it.

Oh, what to start with.
Since day one in this Merlin-forgotten school, where fire is not just fire, but a sub-culture, Meenauh Silmataurea favoured spell books more than people. At least, they are useful, she thought.

Since day one, she was advancing faster than her peers, and taking extra practice in Transfiguration spells. And each next year she did the same under careful guidance.

In her second year, she added Charms, because they were the biggest branch she could not afford not excelling in. And every next year, she was the first to cast the spells her classmates didn't yet know, and using spells in duels the other side was eager to know.

It was not her power that she was 'feared' (well, of course not that kind of fear... I hope?) of, it was the abundance of knowledge, the library of her mind, the quick fetching of any convenient spell in most situations.

It was only a question of time (6 years, yes) until she would be standing in front of the Restricted Section of the library. Touching the metal ornaments on the see-through doors, leading to the secrets only few had access to. Meenauh knew this moment would come as soon as she stepped into the library for the first time in her life. The greed for knowledge was too difficult to overcome. And, thank Merlin, her mind had enough capacity to fit it all just nicely.

The names on the books were sometimes on a different language, but she still knew they stored immense power that one had to be careful to wield. Or even know about. The darkest glimpses of her bright eyes played hide-and-seek with the cleanest parts of her generous soul. It was a fight between knowing what others didn't or even couldn't and placing herself... Well, not a fight at all. It was lost as soon as she found out that the section was called 'restricted'.

Her gradual ascension to one of the most knowledgeable witches in the school (especially, now, when she was in her top year) granted her permissions to continue her excellence in Charms. Professors generally loved when a student under their supervision reached great heights without burning their wings. Of course, all the students periodically burnt their wings on balls and other extraordinary events, but it had nothing to do with studying.

Perfection was not just a word. She perfected almost all the spells in the school curriculum, because she needed it to expand her non-verbal and wandless skills. So she was standing at the new path — the rarest of the Charms that were calling to her, hungry to get learnt as soon as possible. Who was she to keep them waiting for longer?
