Is it mandatory to do homework on hio or can we just not do it at all?

Adding to what Maverick had said, homework is beneficial for accumulating house points, receiving prizes for being among the top earners, and learning spells.

ICly, I don't think it's probable, in my opinion, because first-year and second-year students have the same number of subjects, but a distinct curricula in terms of what their Professors teach.

Second years would not be in mixed classes with first years, no.

Firstly, sorry about all the questions I've been asking lately. Secondly, I'm recoding my ency. If I wanted to change the trunk post, how would I do that? I'm aware that there is an Encyclopedia Update Thread, but I'm worried that it would be a waste of time HiO's hardworking staff to simply recode a post without actually adding any new spells or abilities. I would, of course, provide the new code I want for the trunk, so perhaps it wouldn't be too much work?? Thanks in advance.

That thread is the only way to get your trunk updated I am afraid. You can just post your coding there
