Ability Applying for: Perfectionist
Why this fits my character: Word Count: 433/400
Reducio
Karina, always trying to make new friends, trying to help everyone out, trying to make good 1st impressions. She tries to be perfect, even though most of the times, she has trouble.

During her years at London, before Hogwarts, she often found it easy to make friends because she had a plan to follow. She had to be perfect, otherwise what would people think of her? She knew she couldn't mess up, say anything wrong or disturbing, and she couldn't accuse anyone of doing anything.

The main reason why Karina is so picky about the way she makes a good impression is all because the time when she made herself look like a fool. She was only 6 years old, yet became so traumatized, that now, she has to be perfect. Being a perfectionist, is all part of Karina's way...

Back when Karina lived in America, Before she turned 8, she lived in New York, she had a very hard time at school. She recently had switched schools, because the other one had closed down. It was her first day, and she wanted to make some friends, otherwise she would struggle by living a lonely life (in her opinion). Coming to a new school wasn't easy, and she spent the entire day thinking, who she should be friends with.
It was lunch time, and Karina brought a chicken sandwich. Eating alone, a group of 4th graders walk up to Karina. "What'cha eating, loser?" Karina, still young and not smart, replied to them... "I'm eating a chicken sandwich." "Really? Is it...yummy? , Laughed the 'leader' boy. "Oh yes, very. I think you got my name wrong." "Oh? Did we?" "Yes, but it's okay. You said my name is Loser. It's a pretty name, but I'm not quite sure that's mine though." The boys kept laughing, and for the rest of the year, Karina was teased by the entire 4th grade!

Since that day, Karina had been traumatized, she needed to feel like she could do anything. She needed to be perfect. Bullying wasn't Karina's favorite experience and she doesn't want others to be bullied. So whenever she sees a student feeling down, she makes sure to comfort them, as long as she doesn't make herself look/feel like a fool.

To her brother, life was always seeming to be a competition. Who is better? Who is Mom's favorite? Who is Dad's favorite? Her brother and Karina had always been so competitive, and both of them tried to be perfect, so their 'competitions' were often a close call or tied since their parents hated choosing favorites.
_____________________________________________________________
Now, as Karina was a perfectionist, she tries to ace all of her exams and spell-casting.

One morning, in Charms class, there was a difficult assignment of casting a charm. Karina knew that this spell would effect her grades a ton if she didn't do it well enough. Not wanting to make a fool of herself in front of her classmates, she knew that she had to do well. What would others think of her if she didn't do the spell right? That would make her look so bad! Trying and focusing, Karina drew out her wand, and without looking into her spell book, she said the spell wonderfully, passing the class. What would others think of her now?

Even now, Karina tends to do well in her classes, and when she doesn't, she keeps trying until she gets it.

Ability: Wandmaker: Aspen Wood, Phoenix Feather, 8 Inches, Solid
Why does this fit Avery?:
Image
Wood: Aspen [WC: 198 for Wood]

Reducio
Although the wand was inherited, it felt right in his grasp. It was made of aspen wood, and it was old. The white wood had an ombre effect, and it greyed and intensified as your gaze followed the length of it, eventually becoming black with burn at the tip. Much like the wood being suited to martial magic, its handle had been fashioned thus; a curved hilt for easier handling. It allowed its user for concise movements, for its performance was not in how one looked when casting with it, but rather the magic that was cast with it.

Avery was like Janus, the greek god of motion. There were two sides of him; the flashy rank of birth that so often made an appearance and the private, closed nature of the boy that concealed his ruthless pragmatism and lust for efficiency; for besting those that stood against him. He had made the duelling team in his first year, as he had expected, and this only fuelled his desire to prove himself. Avery shared this quality with his father before him, the previous owner of this wand; perhaps that was why he received the wand over his brothers.

Core: Phoenix Feather [WC: 304 for core]

Reducio

This wand had been passed down for a number of generations, to the first born of its owner until Avery, whose mother decreed that he should receive the wand; yet another snub to her husband’s legacy. The Leveret family chose to give the wand a quality of ceremony from when it was first made, owing to the fact of its unique appearance and its even more exceptional wand core. The Phoenix that shed its feather had been domesticated and reared by the Leveret Family some many years ago. Such in itself was a rare feat, and likely pursued to bring fame and fortune to the family of old. The Leveret penchant for feuding saw the majestic creature captured in a jealous assault on their ancestral French home. When the family returned, the only trace of their beloved, enflamed beast, was a single feather that was used in the making of this wand; ordered by the then patriarch. The wand was borne of vengeance and status; a reminder to those that crossed it. All it needed to be the perfect symbol, was elder wood, but the family had never been so fortunate.

Like his family, Avery was particularly hard pressed to change his views. He was as stubborn as they came, and he could endure in his world view even in the face of great adversity. Owing to his other qualities, he would likely have a battle to win the allegiance of this wand due to its history, but Avery was an independent mind. Often times, Avery thought that his reality was the true reality; detached from the mundane of others, but it is widely reported that such cores encourage this independence. What remains to be seen is how it treats his delusions, how it opts to act of its own will as these cores do.

Length: 8 Inches [WC: 85 for Length]

Reducio

The wand was considered short, sitting at exactly 8 inches in length. It was on the cusp of being considered a longer wand for Wandlore experts, and this perfectly represented Avery’s decidedly middle-of-the-road nature. Most of the time, Avery was refined in everything he did. Decorum and elegance were drilled into him from early ages; and his wandability was equally so. However when the time was right, Avery found himself stepping over the line between refinement and the desire to lose oneself in their casting.

Flexibility: Solid [WC: 126 for Flexibility]
Reducio

The wand wasn’t considered pliant, much like the ancestry it belonged to. It was decidedly ‘Solid’ and this suited many of the driven minds of his family. Avery was not dissimilar, and so far he had not been changed in any of his beliefs; instead emboldened. To change the world, one would need to decide on a path and commit to it; win, lose or draw. Flexibility and a nod for people’s feelings meant that you were putting aside what was ‘right’ and that was something that Avery would not permit. He was the lad that didn’t shy to share his beliefs, going so far as to name detractors against him as the beasts, vermin and mudbloods that they were. He believed he was right, always.

Describe why this fits your character: {Word Counts - 516}

Janosch Lee “Jan” Dehoff has been spending his first eleven years in the Muggle world, completely oblivious of his destiny in the Wizarding World. Jan’s childhood in London was just one of the ordinary things any boy of his age would experience: School, friends, family, sports and games. He never thought much about anything else, and to him, magic was nothing but an illusion trick or a whimsical thought that didn’t fit with his view of reality. He spent his early years finding joy in things like spending time with his mates, doing street photography, collecting legos (especially star wars related), and football.

Growing up in a place where football was nearly ingrained in the culture as deeply as the very air people breathe, Most people found it nearly impossible to avoid the sport, no matter what. It wasn't just a game—it was a way of life. Streets were buzzing with children kicking balls around, boys in schools talking about the latest match, and some men at the pub can be heard angrily yelling, “Yellow/Red card!”, “That’s a dive!”, or “Bloody blind Ref!” when there is an unjustified scene during the match.

Of course, Jan ended up no different than them. His uncle, though not an athletic person himself, was an avid supporter of West Ham FC. Oftentimes Jan visited his flat, the two would crowd around the television, enjoying their bonding time by watching football matches in competitions like Premiere League, Europa League, UEFA Champions League, and the glorious, eventful FIFA World Cup (Though usually they watch World Cup with other relatives who are interested). His uncle also took him to weekend matches on some occasions where they would watch West Ham’s players play in person and share a camaraderie over the highs and lows.

Jan eventually became hyper-fixated with the sport and it became a way for him to fit in and make some friends. When the boys in his year would gather during break times for informal matches, he was always eager to join in. Jan also ultimately signed up for the school’s official football team, finding his place as the team’s goalkeeper, where he managed to improve his quick reflexes, accuracy skills, and strategic thinking. He earned the name “Mr. Safe Hand” from some of his peers due to the many times he risked diving headfirst into muddy pitches and making daring saves that earned him cheers and gasps.

Then came the day when he received a letter from someone from Hogwarts, a slow-burn discovery that had started with minor odd occurrences and further questions about his identity. Leaving his old school, mates, football, and some mundane muggle things or activities were bittersweet to Jan, but he quickly realised that he possessed some certain skills and experiences that wizards who have been raised in the wizarding world may rarely do/can’t do without magic in Hogwarts. With some knowledge, skills, and experiences from both the muggle world and wizarding world, Jan will use both skills/experiences in any kind of ways and might be able to navigate through Hogwarts more easily in the years to come.

"Fabian!" It was unlike Sergei to be so excited, the boy often the water to Fabian's fire. Yelling across the dining hall was certainly not his flavor, and neither was running with papers flying out of his arms he was going so fast. His shoes skidded on the cold stone floor as he strove to halt all 182 centimeters and 76 kilograms of himself. "Fabian, I have an idea."

This promised to be more than interesting, which was exactly the sort of thing Fabian liked to avoid in the mornings. Fabian sat, paused mid-bite, eying the other warily.

"I promise, it is a very good idea," Sergei continued, slamming his books and papers down on the table and sliding onto the bench in front of Fabian.

"No," was the simple answer from the duellist to his captain. He didn't have to look to see Sergei's frustrated pout.

"You can't just say no." Fabian speared another piece of roast with his fork, continuing his meal with eyes locked onto Sergei's as if to say 'I can, in fact, just say that.' Sergei rolled his eyes with a disapproving click of his tongue before diving right in. "Anyway, I've been doing some reading and I've talked to the martial magic professor and I found this thing that could really give you an edge out on the piste." He slid a newspaper clipping over to Fabian. "Skilled casters, like this guy, Akim Sokolo, would sometimes just go totally silent during duels and still cast killer spells." Fabian had heard of Akim, of course he had, the man had absolutely obliterated his dear old dad once in the early days. He remembered his father burned the newspaper that morning, but not before his curious eyes caught a glimpse.

"So what?" he grumbled, still miffed at the interruptions to his breakfast.

Sergei tsked at him once more. "So I think you could do it, too! You and Elise, you're our powerhouses, our most skilled casters." He reached over and tapped Fabian in the temple. "You have so much magic up here you're practically halfway there, and Elise still has horrible pronunciation but you know what she can do." He flicked through a few other papers before coming across a sheet of parchment. "The professor even gave me notes on how to help you do it. Then Mircea can learn, too."

Fabian protested. But Sergei won and was soon dragging him to the duelling club. "This is dumb!" Fabian yelled, standing with his wand held forward. Elise, who was watching Fabian go first, lucky bastard, smacked him.

"Just start easy, Fabes!" Sergei called back, disgustingly positive. "Remember, just mouth it, don't say it." That was the only thing being changed this time, all Fabian had to do was mouth the word with full intent and it was supposed to work.

The dummy went tumbling.

Fabian's hazel eyes widened, Sergei's triumphant whoops lost to his awe. The dummy was replaced, and they did it once more, this time without the mouthed incantation. It was weaker, but it still worked.

Every evening, every practice, they ran it. Over and over and over again until Fabian became just as proficient nonverbally as he was verbally. The ability to cast silently certainly saved him in a few duels, follow up spells quick and easy to knock and opponent off balance or to heal himself. The same ability would later go on to save his life in the world of ancient wards and runes he dealt with, this ability to cast quickly without ever moving his mouth, and it proved useful in a number other ways.

For as long as she could remember, Adeline had always been a collector of all things. She often has trinkets, sweets, and small treasures in her robe pockets, ready to pass out gifts to her friendly classmates. She was that one weird kid with a box of rocks stashed carefully under her bed, and a box of dead bugs on her windowsill. She never had many friends, so she naturally filled that void with a surplus of things. She didn't mind it, though. Adeline was happy to surrond herself with things that carried such a story. Growing up isolated and near the sea, this fascination started small with shells and bits of coral, and has evolved to include a little bit of everything, from feathers, to buttons, to dried flowers and berries. This obsession was inadvertently perpetuated by her father. Being a jeweler, he instilled a love for shiny things in her from a young age. Gems and jewelry of course were fair game if the child ever stumbled upon them, but bits of sea glass, particularly glossy shells, and muggle coins would also satisfy her love of shiny things just as quickly. Addie's collection is one of her most prized possessions, and she even brought some of her favorite pieces to Hogwarts in secret, namely her wizards chess set that is made entirely of misplaced pieces that Addie has found in various places over the years She didn't bring too many more things, but back home in Tenby, the girl's room is decorated with years of loot.
Potions is also one Adeline's favorite subjects, and one that she is constantly thinking about, it makes sense that while collecting and exploring (another thing Addie is known to do) she would have potion components on the brain, and would be thrilled to stumble upon, and then harvest, her own ingredients.
Adeline spends the free moments that she does have wandering about the school, exploring the courtyards, gardens, enjoying the plant life, something that her and her mother Efa had always done together. Efa grew most of the families food herself, in the gardens behind the Spinks family cottage. She was a lovely woman, who like every stereo-typical Hufflepuff, loved herbology and all that comes with it. She passed this passion down to her only child, Adeline, who to this day will stop and smell every flower that crosses her path, and just has to know everything about the magical properties of each herb in the shops on Diagon Alley. Adeline loves picking flowers, touching moss, anything to do with plants, especially harvesting them to dry for her collection.

For as far as Pam could remember, she had wanted to be like her dad. Pamela had never really enjoyed talking to people. She much preferred sitting in her room with a book on her lap. But despite being an introvert, she had always been friendly. It was definitely something she had learnt from her father, who always had a smile on his face whenever he greeted others. "Always be gentle but firm", her father had told her, when he had found out Pam's attempts at being like him, "Never let anyone walk over you."

And so that was what Pam attempted to be like. Soft, understanding. And that led to her studying up a lot about human behavior, understanding their moods and getting a general idea of their feelings. Something she started with the purpose of knowing how to behave in different situations was gradually spurred on by an immense curiosity to know more, because she often found explanations of some of her own behavioral patterns in the pages of the books she read.

The earliest uses of her knowledge came when she was around 8. Pam had never liked arguments. She couldn't bear to have people screaming and crying at each other. And there was a lot of that among children her age. So when two boys started fighting over a toy car (when Pam thought back on it, why couldn't the two kids have shared?), she decided to try her luck. It wasn't hard really, she had just had to ask a teacher if there was another similar looking car in the school. And thanks to her luck, there had been. So the fight had been resolved quite easily.

"You know, it's hard to be annoyed around you, or even at you when you're here." her best friend, Henry Mills had told her once. Pam had laughed at that, "That's because you're my best friend. It would be very sad if I still didn't know how to calm you down when you've become a raging fire."

"Hey! Don't push your luck!"

But even after that, Pam had had coming to tell her that she had a very comforting vibe about her, "You're always so nice. And you always know what to say!" They said. She would always reply with a smile and a "thank you! I'm glad I could help!". Her father was always glad to hear those storied from her.

This continued even at Hogwarts. She was good at calming down people. And she always kept her father's words in mind. Therefore there were some rare moments where she would have to put some overexcited human being in their place for being rude. But overall? Her efforts had paid off.

Sabrina always had a knack for collecting, the pockets of her coat always stuffed with little treassures she had found wherever. Be it an interestingly shaped pebble or particulary funny looking stick, into the pocket it went! When there was no more space, she emptied them out into the second drawer from above in her bedside cupboard, sorting her findings into glass vials and wooden boxes provided to her by her parents.

Those treassures often didn't leave said drawer, and if so, only to be spilled out over her bed as she went through them one by one, admiring them again and resorting them again before carefully putting them into their rightful place again. Then there was the stuff she found that she actually made use of, or said she would, keeping those in a few jars under her table. Those jars held stuff like discarted barbie limbs from the bottom of her old toy box, socks that never found their pair, that one screw left after building something from IKEA... all the fun stuff she could later reuse or make into something new, if she so pleased.

Her tendencies to collect stuff showed in more of her hobbies and interests. For example, when she was little, around six-ish years old, she used to walk around their neighborhood with a her orange plactic bucket and a same colored paddle, scooping up wet sand, mud and salt water, ripping out patches of grass and tossing in gravel, mixing it all together later on the kitchen floor, pretending she was brewing potions or cooking stews, like her mom. To her less dirty collection antics belonged picking up wild flowers from her way from school and gifting them to her friends, or gathering shards of glass on the beach, honed and dull from the sea tides. These two, she actually still ocassionally did, but now that she could learn the actual thing, she has since dropped the faux potion making and cooking.

As she got older, she started to not have that much time or opportunity to pursue that little hobby of hers, but she has never dropped it completally, one or two stray objects always occupying her pockets, her drawer of treassures not forgotten and jars under her table as full as ever.

Now at Hogwarts, with magical trinkets laying all around the place and seemingly bottomless robe pockets, her passion got ignated at full force once more.

Wyatt was a half-blood, but his early years were spent completely unaware of magic. Until he was eleven, sure. Then he had some grievances. He hadn’t known how easy things could be and was shocked his mother hadn’t shared the knowledge with him before.

His muggle upbringing did not seem to be an advantage during his first year at Hogwarts. It felt more like something that made him incapable of relating to the rest of the school. A few kids didn’t understand how muggles dealt with illnesses without some wand-waving, they were shocked to hear that printed photographs couldn’t move, and—perhaps most unsettling in its own way—they had no idea what rubber ducks were all about. Wyatt didn’t know why rubber ducks would be so puzzling to wizardkind. What did baby wizards and witches play with in the bath? Did they even bathe? They must…

Maybe it was about feeling too distant from the world of magic, but the early months of Wyatt’s first year were spent failing all his classes. Except for history of magic. His classmates would complain about the lack of spellcasting or flying or potion-making, but he was familiar with simple sit-and-listen lectures. He couldn’t wrap his mind around practicing magic though. Wyatt was far too accustomed to using muggle tools and tricks to solve his problems. After eleven years of glue and tape, he just couldn’t get used to reparo. Being catapulted into this new world, not just experiencing it all at once but becoming part of it, was so overwhelming. All these classes had him waving around his wand, butchering the pronunciations of incantations, and writing essays using quill and ink on parchment.

This struggle continued for a short while, long enough that Wyatt had begun to fear his situation was hopeless. Turns out, misplacing his potions textbook would lead him to the answer. He turned his dorm inside out looking for it and ended up unearthing a college-ruled notebook and a couple of pens. He’d forgotten shoving those in his luggage and wondered if he used muggle ways to get to wizard answers, whether things would start to make more sense. Taking notes in his notebook gave him a sense of comfort, and clicking a pen certainly beat knocking over his inkwell. In his head, at least, he started muggle-ifying things to make them make sense. Potions was just chemistry, flying was PE, and history of magic was… history. He started to get the hang of magic this way. And though some spells like lumos or extinguo were helpful for quick solutions, who could fault Wyatt for opting to clean his dorm magic-free, or pack without the help of a charm? It was pretty therapeutic.

Parseltongue and snake
Spoken
French

Serpent's tongue. An ability and trait long passed down through Theodora's father’s family, one they are proud of, to the point of using it quite often at home with one another. The trait appears to have come into the family in the twelfth century, when one of Theodora's ancestors married a Greek witch he met on a trip through Europe. Ever since their union, the Parlows have been born with and enjoyed the ability to speak to serpents, resulting in children of the family occasionally bringing snakes into the house from the gardens.

Theodora was and is no exception, in her youth as she'd help with her mother's roses she'd find a snake and have a chat with it. The first time this happened was when the girl was five and sitting in the garden with her mother, she happened to notice something under the bushes, it was tan with black speckles of black, and upon closer inspection, it was a small Grass Snake. Being five, Theodora reached out and spoke to it, unknown to her she had slipped into Parseltongue, “Hello there friend!” She grabbed a hold of the small reptile and held it up, not expecting it to speak back to her, “Friend. No harm to you.” Theodora hadn't expected the small thing to speak back, she blinked in slight shock before giggling, and allowing the beast to wrap around her wrist and hand, “Do you have a name?” It was then that familiar voice of her mother called out to her, “Theodora, what are you doing child? What do you have there?” Before she could hide her new found friend from the woman, her mother saw the reptile and shrieked and shouted, pulling out her wand, “Lucian! Come now!” It wasn't long before her father and grandmother came rushing out of the house with their wands ready, “what is it?!” Theodora's mother, pale, only pointed to Theo, “S-S-Snake,” it was the only word she got out before Lucian Parlow turned to his daughter and saw the small creature, at first concerned, then assessing, searching her for bites or possible blood, when he saw that there were none, a look of pride, and a smirk, formed on his face. He knelt in front of his daughter and her new found friend, “Did you make a new friend, my child?”
Theodora smiled and nodded quickly, “Yes and he talks back Father!”
A small bemused chuckle came from her father, a sound she was unused too, and patted her head, “You will find all snakes can talk, but you must promise that you will only talk to them when we don't have any company. Some are ignorant to the wonderful conversationalist that snakes make. So go on and play with your new friend, put him down near the pond when you're done.”
With that Theodora gave a nod and ran off into the gardens to play.

Margaret Wilston was born to a perfectly ordinary muggle family - if not a quite respected one in the community. In fact, both her parents worked in the medical field. Growing up influenced by her parents, her dream had always been to become a doctor. As young as in primary school, she had begun investing time in learning the basics of medicine. When she had reached the age of 10, she was already perfectly fluent with all first aid methods as well as simple stabilisation.

When receiving the letter from Hogwarts and the announcement that she possessed magical powers, she did not give up on her dream but worked even harder to become what is known as a Healer in the wizarding world. As a professional Healer, she mixed muggle and magical remedies while working.

Upon discovering the aptitudes of her daughter, Elisa, in the same field, she began guiding the little girl towards a futur in medicine.

First were the non-magical, very simple things. Easier for a young child who hadn't yet learnt to correctly control and wield magic, these were what Margaret chose to teach her daughter first. After about a year, Elisa learnt how to bandage an area correctly without worsening any possible injury, how to apply medicine, positions a patient should be in depending on the case, etc... Basically first aid. This part was not too difficult for little Elisa, but what was going to come was more challenging, Margaret knew.

From the years of experience in working around patients, Margaret concluded that knowing all the gestures was far from enough - indeed, better than nothing, but she hoped her daughter could do better. For the mother, healing was more than something physical, even when it came to physical injuries. There was another part, something about being there for the patient, about being able to reassure and comfort in times of need. That was not as easy as it seemed. It required patience, but more importantly a desire to help coming from the heart.

Margaret was not entirely sure whether Elisa could achieve that - she was fully aware that she was demanding high of a pre-teen girl. Of course, she'd try nonetheless.

Thus began the training, a little more than a year before her daughter went to Hogwarts. Margaret started out cautiously, choosing only the simplest methods for her daughter. She slowly moved on, little by little, and was happily surprised to discover that her daughter was quite gifted in this domain as well. However, she also found that Elisa was still a little young to continue to dig deeper into the subject.

The summer after Elisa's first year at Hogwarts, Margaret continued the teaching, assuming her daughter was mature enough. Returning back to Hogwarts for her second year, Elisa had acquired all basic (non-magical) skills, both physically and mentally.
