2026 Winter Races

We will begin our races on Thursday, January 29^th. Please ensure that your trunks are updated to be locked by January 26^th. The races will be posted on January 29^th.

We understand this is a quick turnaround, and appreciate the understanding and patience shown by our racers. The match-ups are as follows:

• We are specifying that a user who attempts a blatch without the abilities Foulplay/Cat's Grace/Wolf's Grace or the broom Varápidos is automatically caught. Blatching (and other 'obvious fouls') do not require a roll against the Cheat DC.
• In the event that a moderator rolls too many times, they will use the first however many rolls are needed, dropping the excess later ones. In the event that a moderator does not roll enough times, they will roll until they have enough dice.
• If a multi-headed dragon is the target of a successful blatch, all users on that broom are KOB. (Previously, it was only stated that if the owner of a broom had their stamina depleted, all users would be KOB.)
• If someone is using a broom with abilities (e.g. Firebolt, Oakshaft 79) and does not declare the broom abilities in their post, the moderator will not count those abilities in moderation.

• Debuff fouls are being moved to after Second-string actions.

• The ability Cat's Grace now results in the user having advantage on checks against the Cheat DC. They can also roll (without advantage) to beat the Cheat DC on a Blatch/Pincer or Big Whack attempt instead of it being automatically noticed.
• The werewolf ability Wolf's Grace now results in the user having +1 to their wisdom for, and advantage against, the Cheat DC. They can also roll (without advantage) to beat the Cheat DC on a Blatch/Pincer or Big Whack attempt instead of it being automatically noticed.

Transfer Broom: (Two-Headed Dragon) [SEEKER] [CHASER] [KEEPER] [BEATER]
This is when a player has been caught on someone else's broom, but wants to transfer to someone else's broom (either if their own has been destroyed in a Broken Broomshaft display or if they simply want to leave the original saver alone).

• The Math: There is no math for this, but this does take up the action of the original saver, the caught person, AND the person who is now taking the new passenger.

Big Whack: [FOUL] [BEATERS]
This is when the beater decides to forego bludgering and stealth] to use their bat against an opponent. This results in a debuff and damage and would be rolled with debuff fouls. This action can only be taken once per game.

• The Math:
  Accuracy (+3 for the beater) versus target's evasion. On a successful attack, the beater does 50 x str damage to their opponent, and their opponent has -3 to all stats for the current round and the round after. As this is an obvious foul, there is no roll for cheat DC, and the beater would automatically have to take a penalty lap.

Smaller Whack: [FOUL] [BEATERS]
This is when the beater decides to forego bludgering and can use their bat against an opponent. This results in a debuff and damage and would be rolled with debuff fouls.

• The Math:
  Accuracy (+5 for the beater) versus target's evasion. On a successful attack, the beater does 25 x str damage to their opponent, and their opponent has -3 to wisdom, evasion and accuracy for the current round and the round after. As this is a foul, the beater would have to roll against the Cheat DC to avoid being caught.

We are losing Miss @Avery McCall as our Quidditch team's captain. They have been a member of our house's team for a long time, both as a player and a captain, for which we thank them for their work and dedication. Their leadership will be missed, but not all is lost as we look forward to seeing what they will do next while they continue on as one of our team's first-string beaters!

As such, we will be seeking a new co-captain to serve alongside Miss @Lea Hirsch.

The role of co-captain is essential; they serve as a leader as well as a moderator.

The captain will have three main responsibilities:

1. To moderate Quidditch matches.
2. To keep the team roster up to date and to coordinate the submission of actions before the deadline.
3. To assist in the development of the Quidditch system.

The captain position is not specifically a staff position, but it does require a bit of work as captains are expected to mod matches their team is not in (i.e. you could moderate a match between Gryffindor & Slytherin, for example). This is rewarded with a monetary sum that is obtained much the same way as stipends/scholarships are obtained but in the Captain's area. In addition, this role helps you understand the game and system more, as well as have a hand in future development projects regarding Quidditch. 

This application is open to everyone. Both staff and non-staff players may apply. However, staff members are reminded that it will be expected that you do the work of both positions to their fullest.

If you are a non-player captain, you will not be able to knock a user out of their role when you become co-Captain. However, you will be able to earn stat points for victories and participate from the side lines if you are not a first or second string player.

How the application works:
Please send an owl to your Head of House and the Quidditch captain where you answer the form below. Applications should be sent to both Edith Alarie and Lea Hirsch.

You will then get access to a test on the rules of the Quidditch system, and you then have to mod the round. Applicants will be chosen mostly on the practical example.

We are also losing Miss @Avery McCall as our Broom Racing captain. They have been a member of our house's team for a long time, and we are grateful for their work and dedication to our house's Broom Racing team. We look forward to seeing what they will do next as a member of our site's community.

Due to the departure, we are looking for a co-captain to work alongside @Matilde O'Fionnagan.

As a co-captain, you will be expected to:

- Moderate broom races
- Help with strategy and team discussions
- Contribute to the further development of the broom racing system with patching discussions and implementation
- Develop challenging race courses that may help you better your own moderation skills.
- Maintain and update the racing roster.
- communicate with your Head of House regarding access needs (and tags) for new team members as well as members who have been removed.
- Timely submission of team actions and stats to the mod for the game.
- Being part of our official Discord is a requirement of the role.

- You will have a hand in future development, policies and patches
- You will be compensated for your efforts with IC money.
- There is a level of control that comes with this and your efforts may make the difference between success and failure for your team.
- This is a moderator-level position that can be cited on staff applications.

The Test

Please keep in mind that you will need to complete a test based on the official Broom Racing system. This is so that we can determine if you are capable of understanding how to moderate matches and have the math mastery for the role. While someone might be good at normal math, moderation can be difficult for some. When you receive the test, you will have until one week after we receive passing tests to complete it and send us the results.

Quidditch Dates

The Quidditch captains are glad to announce that the Winter games will take place on Saturday, 7^th February 2026. Please ensure your trunks are up-to-date and that you have purchased any brooms you might intend to use.

Pairings are Slytherin vs Hufflepuff, moderated by Aston Beckett, and Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw, which will be moderated by me.
