Things were getting worse and worse. Mahlioz could only be stunned that Ara had slapped Hanako for all of two seconds before spells continued to bombard the piste. The third year did all that they could to dodge, entirely giving up on casting a spell for that round, but it did pretty much nothing considering they STILL got hit by one of the badgers. He was way too accurate, this was ridiculous. Thankfully Hanako managed to heal her a bit, to which she got out a quiet "thanks" in the midst of the chaos. Ara's spell was quite magnificent. But Mahlioz was not doing well and they all knew it. How could she have been so naive as to think this duel might go well, just from the first round? Ugh.

“GA-” Hanako took a step back feeling the impact on his face. Though he didn’t have much to say to that, considering he deserved it likely. Well.. it was better than being kicked in the shins. Gawd- his teammates are so cranky and so unappreciative of the work he tries to put in this team. Not even Mahl’s thanks really did anything to lighten his mood.

After Jake, it was Hades' turn to make his next move, the Flipendo spell directed at Mahlioz. He had assumed that it seemed to be taking its toll after having targeted her quite a lot, but was surprised to see that his spell had been a success, but had not succeeded in hitting the target. He made an almost imperceptible pout.

His feelings became sour, seeing that he was the only one who had not been able to achieve his goal. He snapped his tongue impatiently. If that was bad enough for him, it was nothing compared to what he felt afterwards, having received the incendio duo, gaining a frown directed at the person who was responsible. He had no words, only the indifference.

She huffed after her stream of insults, focusing back on the duel, releasing an incendio duo.

Ara stepped back after unleashing Incendio Duo on one of her upperclassmen, green flames licking at their sleeves. One hit. That’s all she needed for now. She turned on her heel and glanced at the piste. Evethisawe was still up—barely—but up. That was already more than she expected after the past two rounds of being the Badger’s new chew toy. “Keep moving,” she called to her, voice sharp.

Her eyes flicked toward the half-sentient grave filler.

Oh, that wrinkled raisin with complaints. She hadn’t forgotten that. The failed Confringo. Twice. The half-joke about keeping the blindfold. The half-hearted healing spell. She didn’t want to admit it, but that was at least something. At least.

“You’re lucky Mahl hasn’t burst into sparkles yet,” Ara said, striding over to him, voice low but biting. Hmm. "Mahl". That sounded nice. “You throw around explosions like you’re at a firework festival and the only thing that ever catches fire is your reputation.” She added. Not that she expected the maggot reservation to listen.

She exhaled.

Things were going well so far, for sure, but things could turn in an instant. Mahlioz was fast, and he was hanging in there, dodging their attempts to hit him. And while they had the advantage, Jake didn't think it was by much...judging by the fact that Hades had caught on fire. Jake looked over, and Julian was already asking if he was ok. He listened closely to see if Hades was going to need his help. He had gotten used to things like fire in the dueling chamber, KIND of, but you could never totally...but he had to keep his head, before Slytherin turned the tides.

For a duel with upper years, Raizel expected for more… flashy spells and less defensive. More explosions rather than a fog but she supposed that is part of the strategy but it does make this duel so slow. At least the Slytherin had some drama going on. Ara seemingly lost it with how the only upper classman in their team was trying to act cool and failing horribly. That’s one interesting thing. He is doing well now at least with his spell successfully enveloping two of the Hufflepuff again with fog. He sure loves that spell. Mahlioz had the right choice to stay focused on their opponents, successfully dodging two of the attacks going for her. Ara? Not so much. The ever accurate Jake Morris had scored a hit once again. To make things worse, her spell had missed and none were affected by its blast. Slytherin wasn’t having a good time.

Raizel can’t say that Hufflepuff was doing well… okay, perhaps a little better than Slytherin considering that most of them still looked like they could survive until the end, especially when only a few spells had been hitting. It looks like it wasn’t only the snakes that were slippery. These badgers were proving that they too can be quick in avoiding the spells coming for them. It’s just unfortunate that their spells kept missing.

Well, at least Mahlioz had been able to dodge, this time. Ara's keep moving seemed to have worked, it was weirdly encouraging. They hoped their teammates didn't hate them for not casting anything and just trying to stay alive and out of the way of oncoming spells. Though they had a feeling it wasn't on them that their teammates were focused.

It almost made her laugh (but laughing would hurt too much at this point) that Ara thought she would "burst into sparkles" when/if she passed out. Unfortunately, grandpa and grandchild were full-on fighting now, in the middle of their duel. "Guys, I uh - I understand it's frustrating but it would be awesome if we could focus at least until the duel's over?" She purposefully tried not to make it sound like she was picking a side. Honestly, she was too tired to pick a side.

At least grandpa Hanako's spell finally hit now that he was no longer blindfolded. Ara had a point that he really should have done that earlier, but she was being a bit harsh. Though it was understandable. No one was in a good mood, considering their evidently unfair pairings.

He had half the mind to tell Mahlioz that the only place they were going after this was the hospital wing at this point. Especiallt them considering they both looked pretty weary. But 6 years of unlicensed therapy with friends and stalkers had him bit his lip to refrain from saying more. Only rolling his eyes and refocusing on the duel. Did the hufflepuffs get a little tired with all the fog thrown at them?

Ara was tired.

Not just physically — though the sharp sting on her arm from Jake Morris’ spell was still buzzing, and her ribs ached from a misfire earlier — but emotionally, mentally, cosmically tired. Tired of this duel. Tired of this ridiculous fog. Tired of her supposedly experienced teammate acting like he was performing in a poorly written drama.

And, oh, was she pissed

With grit in her teeth and a sharp twist of her wrist, Ara pointed her wand at the clustered feet of a badger. “Nec Divinos Crepitus.”

A muted blast — too low to be showy, just high enough to catch them if they weren’t paying attention. She didn't wait to see if it landed. Her next move was already under her tongue.

She pivoted sideways to keep a closer flank with Mahlioz. At least she had been useful — staying light on her feet, not picking fights with the elderly mid-combat. The corners of Ara’s mouth twitched despite herself.
