At this point they were trading wins with each round, the difference and damage growing with the passing time. Luck seemed to have a vendetta against them all, a rather unfortunate circumstance considering how ruthless the fates could be. Lea was glad to be on the spectating/moderating side of it than directly within the fire. Agnès and Axel would switch spots in who appeared to do nothing, prehaps preparing to dodge the next volley of spells. It was true that Olya had her wand pointed towards the boy, ready to hit him with fiery doom. Unfortunately for her, she lost concentration half-way through as the magic fizzled out and died. At least the Koldovstoretz student hadn't set herself alight.

Hoping to take advantage of Seraphina's ballet, Agnès levelled her wand towards the Mahoutokoro student with the Knockback Jinx at the ready. It would be enough to knock the other unconscious, the spell lighting the tip of the wand before rocketing off- in the wrong direction. It would be Agnès ending up on the receiving end of her own spell, feeling the force as though a punch to the gut. That wouldn't be the end of it though, Irina having a Flipendo of her own in the Beauxbatons student's direction. She would also struggle with controlling the spell, but the jinx flickered alive as she cast. Being tickled wouldn't help with aim but neither would already being punched by one's own spell help with dodging. In the end, Rictusempra proved the smaller obstacle as Agnès was hit a second time full force, likely stumbling a few steps back from the successive blasts. From the most healthy to nearly being the worst off in the duel, it was obvious how quickly the winner changed yet who would finally clutch the final victory remained a mystery.

Failure wasn’t an option. That is why Irina did her best to get hold of things. Thinking for a moment, she turned to Agnès, striking a Flipendo towards her direction. Yet, it seemed like the frenchie took double damage. That was when Irmina realised that Agnés’s spell backfired on her, the same way she was struck by her Rictusempra. Really, luck was playing with their nerves that day. Nevertheless, she was extremely pleased seeing the girl stumble. Yes, Olya lost concentration when trying to do her spell, but an unintentional double blow couldn’t ruin her happiness.

Who knew that concentration was meant to be broken? Olya focused with all her might, trying to send an Incendio of Doom towards Axel, but something was wrong with her casting. Again. Twice in a duel? Statistically unlucky. But she wasn’t the only duellist to have trouble. The two other girls, as usual, did nothing, as well as Axel, for that matter, but Agnés got hit by her backfired Flipendo. Much to her delight, despite the Tickling, Irina’s strike was true, the French girl being hit twice in the gut. Honestly, with this duel’s horrible odds, the winning team could be either. They could only pray.

It was a bit of a surprise to see a side just stop in the middle of the duel, wondering if the battering had dwindled their spirits. They still had the chance to turn things around and had certainly done some damage themselves so maybe this was a strategy that Lea knew little about. She'd leave them be, now free from spell effects, but keep a watchful eye should things change. It seemed both teams were having trouble though as only one spell managed to fly across the block. Olya would be found futzing with her wand, a spell spoken in the hopes of seeing Ruby's dance moves yet nothing happening.

Irina's trouble led to a strange success- while her wand aimed towards Axel, the spell instead spiraled towards Agnès. The sudden change startled everyone and while Irina lost her chance to steer the spell properly, its direction would also catch the new target off guard. Miss Laurent's dive out of the way wouldn't escape the flames that grabbed at her clothes, finding shelter within the fabric that would unfortunately not be put out immediately. Thankfully it wasn't a stronger fire, but the damage was still done. Mahoutokoro and Koldovstoretz had pushed further ahead, but would they be able to keep it for a few more rounds was the question.

Lets say that the way this duel was going was a big surprise to Iriliya. Her spell went berserk, again. But it didn’t target a friend. It went for Agnés, instead of Axel. And somehow, it hit. Olya’s spell didn’t work, however, but at least the other team was a bit more worse than them… And well, their opponents didn’t do anything at all. Wow. What had gone wrong. Were they tired? Maybe. Iriliya was too. But she didn’t show it. Cowardice wasn’t something Koldovstoretz taught.

No, the odds were totally against her. Twice in a row, third time in a duel, she couldn’t cast. Her head was getting fuzzy from all this madness, but with a few deep breaths she steadied herself. Irina’s spell though hit and for the first time, the other side didn’t do anything at all. This was good for them, they had more time to strategise. The flames on the French girl made her smile. How could she not dodge such a spell? Well, it was time to move on. And do the cast right.

A plan coalesced behind the eyes of one Agnès Laurent yet execution never found its mark as the flames smothered themselves to a faint smoke. Something stood in the way between action and decision, an unfortunate barrier as the other two remained still while Seraphina joined them from the other side. It would only be Irina and Olya that cast, yet luck still did not favor them.

Ruby looked the healthiest with the least amount of hits, so Irina looked to level the field between the opponents. Her Flipendo had the ferocity it needed, yet none of the control as the spell careened towards the Koldovstoretz student instead of the Beauxbatons one. There was no way to escape the full blast, forced back yet not off her feet. Lea winced, the betrayal of one's wand stinging but not nearly as much as a full Knockback Jinx could. Fortunately for them, they could take a couple more hits, looking better than some of their teammates.

Olya had better luck, finally intending for sparks rather than the unintentional ones before. Green Sparks were one of the first spells learned, easier to cast than others yet what Olya made up for in proper incantation and wand movement, she lost in aim. It would at least make its way to the other side of the piste and remarkably close to Axel. Yet while the target remained distracted, there was still enough preservation instincts to narrowly keep away from the sparks. There was only one more round to go, curious to see how well they would spring to action in those final moments.

It was a quiet end, not one Lea had often seen before- those final rounds were loud, a race to cement a victory or to recover the steps and overtake the other team. This was a whisper, a bated breath to see if either would attack, a countdown to the final second. The difference between the two teams was not insurmountable, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students having the opportunity to take the lead if they raised their wands. But it seemed the hits and exertion won, leaving still forms prepared to dodge the next spell headed their way and nothing more.

Mahoutokoro and Koldovstoretz could also further their lead, a final stand after losing and gaining the space between them and the other team. But they too waited for something, a strike that never arrived, until the final grain of sand spilled to the bottom. Their wariness to cast made a bit of sense considering the previous round had hurt them more than helped despite only Koldovstoretz students casting, but it still seemed a strange ending to the game.

The exhaustion from both sides was understandable though and without the typical synergy of known teammates from one's school, these sorts of games were sometimes more challenging than the more official seasonal games. With a small sigh, Lea stepped forth between the two teams, arms clasped in front of her as she addressed the teams and spectators. "Time's up! With that... Mahoutokoro and Koldovstoretz win!" She'd raise her arm on the side of the winning team, allowing a moment of cheers and excitement before continuing forth to address just the duellists. "Please find yourself some medical attention, I can direct you there as needed."
