2022, Stage 3 Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 1

The fifth year looked at Willow. She had managed to dodge and also hit Adeline, but Alan was still confident in their win, so he would not panic or anything. Judging from what was going on, they had quite a distance to Willow and there would have to be a miracle for her to win. They would just have to wait out the time or get her to drop unconscious... gently of course. Or as gentle as a duellist could knock someone out.

It was about time Willow made some headway in this duel. Part of her still wanted to run and check on Calli but the best way to make Calli proud was sticking it out until the end. As Adeline pulled off her blindfold Willow hit her with a successful Wind Jinx. While Alan stayed undamaged she knew that once Adeline was gone she could focus on him.

It was becoming progressively clearer that the duelists were feeling the strain. The lone Hufflepuff was giving their all to stay in the game, while both Gryffindors were fighting to take their opponent out. Willow's attempt at spell-spreading Flipendo went awry, specifically in the aiming department, dodged by both Alan and Adeline. On the other hand, the Obscuro Adeline intended for Willow failed to leave her wand entirely. While Alan's Aqua Eructo doused Willow once again, the brunt of it was avoided as before, no more than a partial hit. It was a rough round with no certainty of who was going out next.

Once more Alan would just barely manage to hit Willow, but barely was still enough and so the Gryffindor was somewhat satisfied with the result. It could have been better but it definitely could have been a lot worse too. Willow had not even managed to hit either of them, despite trying. All in all a decent round.

Addie ripped the blindfold from her face just in time to dodge another incoming attack from her opponent. In quick retaliation, she attempted to throw another spell back, but the frantic manner in which she cast it caused the spell to fizzle before it even left the tip of her wand.

The playing ground seemed to be tipping in favor of her and Alan once more, bolstering her spirits a bit. It was time to end this.

Action: Owled

The fact that they were only about halfway through the duel was truly insanity to Willow, but she wasn't going to forfeit. She wouldn't give the lions the satisfaction of seeing her willingly fall. They would have to take her out, or battle until the end. Though, something in her was begging to let it end early and go check on Callista. It was a fun little battle waging inside her mind.

The still-standing Hufflepuff proved quick on her feet, though the Gryffindors were just as unrelenting. An attempt to dodge an incoming Flipendo from Adeline nearly succeeded, though the spell still struck her partially, colliding with her shoulder as she evaded the worst of it. Although Alan attempted to slow her down with a gale of Ventus, little more than a burp of wind escaped the end of his wand. The healer took advantage of this lapse in the barrage to afford herself a swift healing spell. Reparifors cascaded over her in soothing ripples, relieving some aches and pains.

"We gotta step up our game, if we want to finish this quick," the fifth year muttered. This duel was dragging on and Alan didn't really like this. His preferred outcome would still have been for Willow to give up, however he knew she would not do that and in a way he admired her for it. However the second best option was to finish her off as quickly as possible or to let time run out, which was also a bit risky. Once would let her possibly win whereas the other meant they had to hurt a friend of his. Then again this was a competition and Willow would receive treatment immediately...

Not a perfect hit, but Adeline was still happy with the spell she had chosen. With the healing her opponent had done, however, her attack didn't seem to have made much of a dent.

Now was the time to refocus and push to the finish line. Victory was close--she could feel it, and to come out of this dueling season with more wins than losses would be a dream. Maybe then, she could leave her first match behind, and stop obsessing over her initial failure.

Addie held her head a little higher at the thought of recounting her exploits to her family when she returned home for the summer, and smiled a little as the match continued.

Fatigue was evident in all participants of this most brutal duel. Alan, typically a star duellist, failed an attempt at casting Flipendo. The error was so devastating that the damage leapt backwards, striking him with his own spell. His partner Adeline did not fare much better, nothing to show for her attempt at Incendio Duo save a few sparks crackling from the end of her wand. Willow, likely exhausted at this juncture, took a moment to catch her breath rather than retaliate. Their referee watched from the sidelines with an especially tense expression, stricken by this turn of events.
