2022, Stage 3 Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 4

And just when things looked like they couldn't get any worse, they did. The stormcloud, which had such high hopes for, was sent back to him. Oh well, he was still going to- SLAM

Lamik felt for the first time the full force of his own Flipendo, and boy was it unpleasant. After recovering, he briefly wondered why it burned, before realizing that he was literally on fire.

"Uh- that's a good question." The girl would mutter after the lightning strike from the previous round. But it was nice to know that Lydia cared- especially so when she moved the lightning cloud onto the other side of the duelling block. One trouble gone for now, it gave Lea enough patience to focus on the spell at hand.

The backfire, while unfortunate, provided a good distraction for Lea to aim her own spell at the gryffindor. It came as a surprise when the fire actually hit the upper year and started burning as all other attempts had been relatively unsuccessful before. "Oh- thanks!" Still, she felt kind of bad about the backfiring- but that was a part of spellcasting, especially at a competitive level.

A WIN FOR HUFFLEPUFF
"Half the time is over," Dee called, aware that it might be hard for the duellists to keep track while throwing and dodging spells like their life depended on it.

As it turned out, the reminder wasn't necessary. Neither side was taking it easy or playing for time; they both were acutely aware that the duel's balance was precarious, and might tip over into either direction at any moment.

Despite his previous mishap and the flames still eating at his clothes, Lamik was not playing it safe. His knockback jinx once again split in two, shooting towards both badgers. They were well aimed, and one projectile delivered a hard blow to Lydia's shoulder, who was too slow to move out of its path. Lea, perhaps more aware of her uncertain position should she be hit, managed to twist away narrowly to avoid the blast.

The Badgers did not pull any punches, either. After the previous hits had done some visible damage to the Lion, both Hufflepuffs aimed their wands at him as well. Lea's knockback jinx managed to catch Lamik's side - barely - and Dee held her breath for a moment. If Lydia's spell hit as well, this might actually be the end of the duel... but the wind jinx went wide, and Dee relaxed a little, nodding. It seemed that Lamik would remain standing for the moment.

Except Dee had forgotten the cloud above. It had spared Lamik so far, but apparently, this had only been a reprieve, not peace. In a flash of light, it struck down at the Gryffindor, and so many blows in such a short time proved to be too much. When Dee blinked the imprints of light away, Lamik was motionless on the stage.

"Wands up!" she called, hopping onto the stage and aiming her wand first at Lamik, extinguishing the flames, and then up to dispel the cloud. The healers were already moving, collecting Lamik for medical care, and Dee turned towards Lydia and Lea, still a little surprised.

"Nicely fought," she acknowledged, although the duel had been odd, the Gryffindors doing more to damage themselves than their opponents. Then, louder, she proclaimed, "Congratulations to the Blazing Badgers for their win!" The audience in black and yellow cheered, and Dee gave the Badgers a quick grin before turning to leave.

One win for Hufflepuff, at last.
