Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Muggle Condition (Y2 ability)
Describe why this fits your character:
ReducioThe wizarding world and it's mechanics were never easy for Mellani, a girl who had learnt that magic was really a thing only a little while ago, so she learnt to use her own ways to get what she wanted done. These were ways that she had acquired in the muggle world. Sometimes it was just a fist fight, or throwing a book, but sometimes she would like to use muggle objects that others did not know about to confuse them.
She had always kept a toy gun with her, something she knew wizards did not know much about, since they were so keen to use magic to kill people. She had never needed to use it, since all the other students at Hogwarts were pretty nice (probably much better than her), but she kept it with her nevertheless. If she couldn't scare people with magic, she would scare them with her fake gun. Simple, but effective.
Mellani had always thought her life was boring, but now she would do anything to go back there, where the worst thing that could happen when there was a fight was a swollen lip. Now, whenever there was a fight, there was a duel, and a lot of times, at least one person was unconscious before the fight ended.
She also missed Olivia, a friend who had passed away during when Mell was at Hogwarts. Mellani did not let this affect her studies, she still learnt magic, but she never used it outside class, even though it had nothing to do with Olivia's death. Mellani just felt that if she had never come to Hogwarts, had never known what magic was, she would still be able to protect her muggle friend. This lack of practice was probably why Mellani was better at muggle things than she was at magic.
If something was broken, and Mellani was asked to fix it, Mellani would use her toolbox, and fix things the way her father had taught her when she was a little kid, instead of just waving her wand and saying Reparo. Call it a lack of progressive thinking, but it was how it was, and Mellani would always be more comfortable with something she had done her whole life, rather than something that just appeared into her world and changed her life in a way she never would have imagined possible.
Mellani had probably only taken Quidditch because, to her it was just another version of throw and catch, and it involved goals so maybe a little bit of basketball. That was all she thought of while playing. She never thought of the flying broom, or how this game to involved magic. To her, it was just an advanced version of a muggle game, which was probably why she had never struggle with it. She always found a way to even make the most magical things seem muggle so that she could understand them more easily. Maybe is some years with a little more exposure, this would change, but for now, she was still a muggle at heart.

Dan had decided a few years ago that Quidditch was where he wanted to take his career. No surprise there; he'd been playing since his first or second year. So, he began training every spare moment he had. His eyes had begun adjusting to their falconness as well, and so he could start finding the snitch easier.
He had worked on his dodging, searching, and catching. He found a LOT more progress with his searching than anything else... But this time, he was focusing entirely on accuracy.
Using the vast wealth the Palmer family possessed, he had bought a golden snitch, along with some bludgers. This time though, he was only focused on the snitch. And also, due to an unfortunate and entirely unforeseeable accident that had nothing whatsoever to do with him, a bludger ended up shattering a window in Palmer Manor, which resulted in Dan not being able to use the bludgers close to the house anymore.
He practiced and practiced, but he still felt like it wasn't enough. He was definitely school level, but he was looking to get into professional Quidditch. He had to be peerless. So, he scoured the manor's library for books on accuracy, but found very little to help him. He was about to cave and go look up some muggle material about it, since they've had to train their accuracy without potions or spells for millennia. But, he decided to go to Diagon Alley first. Maybe Flourish and Blotts would have something for him. And sure enough, it did.
"Pinpoint: How To Become More Accurate Without Potions". That sounded like it was made precisely to be what he needed right when he needed it!
For the next several days, Dan was glued to the book. He read it, then read it again. He wanted to make sure he absorbed everything it could possibly teach him. After that, he began to put them into practice. These techniques were a bit strange to get used to, but he acclimatized. Before too long, he began to see some improvement. He started catching the snitch faster and faster. His flying got more and more precise. When he dove at the snitch, he caught it more often than not. Dan, admittefly, was not expecting much from the advice from this book, but it produced surprising results. Perhaps, just perhaps, Dan would start using books to implement more training regimens.

Ruth adored her ability —’s Grace. It allowed her to slip into places, unnoticed, watching with her forest-green eyes, taking in information, feeding on it.
It absolutely made sense for her to develop such a gift. Growing up with her older siblings, she had grown to love two things : Books and Bird Watching. When asked why, she could gush on it for ages. Whatever she said, she would always offer a small smile and say, “My siblings.” These hobbies defined who she was, because she spent so much time and energy pouring into those activities. It shaped her personality, her whole, herself.
Books— she gained knowledge she never knew existed. Be it fairytales, scientific facts, philosophy. She drank it all, held it not only in her mind but in her heart. It was a wonder to be filled with extraordinary things in the world, and Ruth felt privileged to be able to learn such things…because of her older sister, Rita.
Rita and Ruth, Ruth and Rita. Her older sister had always been an adventurous one, exploring the neighbourhood, discovering new things. Ruth had yearned to be apart of these fiascos, but the only place Rita ever took her little sister was the library. Always sharp at dawn, before their parents wake up. Before the world yawns and begins their day. Rita would knock on the door (three times) and Ruth would be up before the last knock, eagerly letting her sister in. Together, they would giggle and open the latch of the window, throwing down a rope. It was the fastest way out of the house, what with Ruth’s room facing the backyard. One by one they would slip down the rope, sneak across the grass and out onto the street. Not before putting their shoes on of course. Two pairs of shoes hidden next to the tree in their backyard. Ready for them.
It always took a while for them to get to the library. A half hour or so. In those times, Rita and Ruth (Ruth and Rita) would whisper to each other, striking conversations of the books they intended to dive into that day. And the day after that, the following day, so on so forth. Rita’s outgoing personality and Ruth’s inclusivity allowed for Ruth to bridge not only a strong connection with her sibling, but to develop the ability to sneak around quietly, and take in amounts of information.
Her observance was thanks to her older brother, Aaron. He was not a book worm, but a bird geek. His room held prize possessions, pictures of the birds he had collected when out and about. His favourite will always be the Nightjar he had spotted with Ruth on their first evening out to the countryside during late spring.
Ruth had insisted on coming that day, and as reluctant as Aaron was to allow his little sister to tag along so close to curfew, he agreed. The two had traipsed along, Aaron telling Ruth about the various birds in the world, when Ruth halted suddenly. “Do you hear that?” she asked, and Aaron grew silent, eyes widening as he heard a unique churring. In an instant, the two were darting towards the source of sound, crouching down beneath the bushes surrounding a clearing. Ruth clung onto her brother hand, heart beating in anticipation. Her eyes roamed the scene, examining every nook and cranny, finally gazing down at the sandy soil. Bingo.
Slowly, she pointed into the distance, where a Nightjar had nestled itself into the ground scattered with vegetation. Aaron’s grin was a reaction Ruth had been expecting as she watched him carefully hold up his camera and take a shot.
The two of them watched the Nightjar for a while, hand in hand, brother and sister. As dusk approached night, Aaron led Ruth away front the clearing. Once a safe distance, he whooped, a sound that made Ruth join in with laughter. He patted her back, awed. “You did good, Ruth. You…spotted it before I did.”
Ruth eyes sparkled like the stars that had begun to blink into existence. She did. She had. Thanks to her siblings. Kudos to Rita for her sneaky feet, kudos to Aaron for her keen observance, and kudos to both for the information she gained and holds with all her might.

Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Prodigal Defense Against the Dark Arts Learner
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
Roberto has always had doubts, since he was a child, about what career he would like to pursue after graduating from Hogwarts. These doubts centered around two particular careers: becoming a professional Quidditch player, an idea he had ever since he started watching matches of the British and Irish Quidditch League, or becoming an Auror, an idea that arose early on when he would hear stories from his parents about great witches and wizards who faced dark wizards throughout history, like Dumbledore and Harry Potter, facing and defeating Grindelwald and Voldemort.
Roberto’s parents always encouraged him to follow his dreams and would always tell him that they would do everything in their power to help him become whatever he wanted to be in this world. However, unfortunately, they lived in a town with many Muggle families, and it was nearly impossible for them to help him with Quidditch. The most they could do was teach him a little bit of flying, but not Quidditch itself. So, they helped him pursue the idea of becoming an Auror instead.
To do this, Roberto’s father called his godmother, Lillard, who was also one of his oldest friends, an Auror who had retired after a serious injury caused by dark magic. She quickly agreed to the idea of starting Roberto on the first steps toward Defense Against the Dark Arts, and since Roberto turned nine, after his first magical incident, she would visit their house from time to time to teach him the theoretical part of the subject. She also gifted him with books about the great witches and wizards of history who faced dark wizards, as well as theoretical books on DADA.
With this in mind, Roberto spent the next 18 months taking various theoretical lessons that went beyond DADA itself. Lillard also taught him philosophical aspects related to facing magical creatures and dark wizards. All of this was so that young Roberto would be prepared as soon as he got his wand and started his school year at Hogwarts. The training was exhausting at times. Even though he wasn’t performing magic yet, the numerous repetitions he was forced to do, with wand movements for various spells using only a twig as if it were a wand, left him with a completely tired arm. At times, he also faced some dummies simulating magical creatures just so he could demonstrate that he had understood the theoretical aspects of the lessons.
At the end of the 18 months, Lillard said that she could continue teaching him DADA over the holidays, but from that point onward, he should accept the teachings of his own DADA professor at school and do whatever he could to learn everything he could about DADA, so that his path to becoming an Auror could finally be fulfilled with mastery.

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it): (Word count: 401)
ReducioYougle Crenshaw had always been an exceptionally good student in all of her fields of studies. She was, however, the best at charms class and defense against the dark arts class. Every single second of her spare time, Yougle could be found either engrossed in a thick textbook or repeatedly practicing spells she had learned ("What if the dark lord came back? What if there is a new dark lord? Better safe than sorry."). She didn't know why, but all of her spells (despite the small number of spells she knows) had been exceptionally successful and powerful, perhaps more than what would be called normal. This is why Yougle decided to stop practicing in her dorm (before she would blast the roof off).
On her first successful attempt at the mending charm in her first charms class (Reparo, pronounced "reh-PAH-roh" with wand movement backwards G), Yougle Crenshaw's assigned broken skeleton had snapped to perfect condition so fast that she could only see a mere blur of movement before it was restored. This went on the same for the rest of her successful attempts as well. On her first successful attempts at the dancing feet charm (Tarantellegra, pronounced "ta-RON-ta-LEG-gra" with wand movement resembling stick legs), the skeletons had kept on dancing extra energetically to what seemed like an eternity (a lot longer than most).
On Yougle's first successful attempts at the sparks charms (from defense against the dark arts class) in her dorm (red and green, Periculum and Verdimillious respectively), Yougle had nearly had to go to the hospital wing to get her eyes checked even though her eyes had been closed when she casted thrm; the blasts of light that had shot out from the tip of her chestnut wand had been way too bright. Yougle was pretty sure that the sparks charms were not supposed to be as severely bright as it had been, as they can't possibly be meant to save you when you are in danger if they can blind you through your eyelids (Yougle does not have unusually thin eyelids).
Not all of Yougle's spells had worked perfectly and succeeded all the time, but for some strange reason, whenever they did work, they had all have been exceptionally (and quite unusually) powerful from the very start. And Yougle had a feeling that this wasn't exactly something that diving into any number of spell books can teach you.

Anyone who knows Edwin Westbridge knows that hard work is not something that comes naturally to him, hence it would likely come as a surprise to many to hear that the Gryffindor was more than capable when it came to Defence Against the Dark Arts. Growing up as the son of two Aurors, it was inevitable that he'd pick up an inclination towards the subject. Some of his earliest memories are of overhearing his father discussing the subject with his older brothers whilst they were home from Hogwarts. The combinations of these factors lead what was originally just a natural inclination, and curiosity about the dark arts into something that bordered, at least when he was younger, on obsession. Whilst many may know of Edwins lazy tendencies, what few know of is his drive for perfection when it comes to his passions, and Defence Against the Dark Arts is one of those passions.
Resources were easy to come by in the Westbridge household given his parents occupations, and his parents were also more than willing to invest into the one thing their youngest son had ever shown even a modicum of interest in. For his ninth birthday, he asked for a copy of 'The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection' having seen that it was the compulsory reading for first years, and he, as he often did, got just as he wished for. The book, over the course of the next two years, must of been read back to forth, annotated and drawn over, at least a dozen times. Notes of jinxes, counter jinxes or spells that he overheard his parents discussing were crammed into the books margins. When his mother eventually began his tutoring, all previous professional tutors having been dismissed due to Edwins complaints, Defence Against the Dark Arts became the subject of many of their lessons, his mother retailing him in tales of when she was still an active Auror, often at the expense of neglecting what they were supposed to be learning.
Before he attended Hogwarts, a second copy had to be bought for him, as the first was almost unrecognisable, and despite his repeated rereads of the book, he could often be spotted around Hogwarts with the book in his grasp. If it wasn't this book, he would be some other random book that he had grabbed, often at random, in the library, not caring for if the book was targeted for students older than him. Regardless of the targeted age, he would at least attempt to read, and digest any additional information he could about Defence Against the Dark Arts.

ReducioWhen you're born into the Napier family, the husky voice of destiny whispers to you: You shall strive for perfection throughout your life, whether you like it or not. However, this does not mean that your will and freedom of choice are completely eliminated and rendered inoperative. Within these prescribed confines, you are at liberty to choose among a wide variety of combinations, and they are, if not innumerable, at least quite numerous.
Here are some of the sentences Saunders heard from his mother in his pre-Hogwarts life: "If one cannot achieve perfection, one's aim should be not to disturb anyone with his presence", "It is a vile middle-class convention to be content with the average", "One should sculpt oneself until finding the most perfect version of himself", "Blushing? It only suits the sluggards who are reluctant to wear themselves out in order to achieve nothing but the best"... And here are some of the sentences Saunders heard from his father: "Yes, Freja", "Your mother is right, young man", "You'd better to listen yor mum."
So Saunders naturally set about analysing what options he had in order to fulfil the task that had been set before him and which he had inherited. Neither the purity of his child heart, nor the factors that had played a major role in the formation of the very basis of his developing character, gave him the feeling that he might have the option of refusing that task. In any case, Saunders did not complain much about the general logic of his family's expectations, except that it demanded a considerable amount of his time.
In his first days at Hogwarts, Saunders had thought that potions could have been the most appropriate subject to concentrate on. But then he came to the conclusion that this was not a great idea. Potion brewing, after all, was quiet a complicated process that took a long time, and as much as he enjoyed chatting to his grandfather about potions, he did not particularly like the idea of spending hours in front of a cauldron. Besides, what would be the ultimate return on all that effort? Potion masters are always similar to those behind the scenes, and they receive very little of the public's applause and admiration.
On the other hand... Defence Against the Dark Arts? As soon as the idea had occurred to the boy, it had caused a flash in his mind. The effort required to master this field involved ‘real action’, not some scooping and turning, but gesturing with a wand - the one and only realy instrument for 'actual' magic. Saunders imagined himself on a dueling stage, making his opponent regret he had ever been born, thanks to all those never-before-seen, glittering, flamboyant spells he mastered. People, in their admiration for his spells, might even become unable to question Saunders' power. Now, that would be... simply marvellous! Saunders recalled how bad he felt when his friends did not share his enthusiasm for the game he wanted to play. But what if his friends admired him too much to question his choices?
And here's a brief summary of why Saunders read second-year DADA textbooks and spent most of his time waving a wand around. If an 11-year-old child is engaged in reading and practising during the year when he is free from the family home for the first time and despite the fact that he has the option of exploring everything around him, it would be a big mistake to ignore or underestimate that determination.

In her very first year at Hogwarts, Tala found herself immediately drawn to magical creatures, like she had all her life. While some of her classmates seemed scared by magical animals, some even recoiling with true terror from the spiders, snakes, and rats others brought to school as pets, Tala not only preferred the company of creatures to that of humans but she also specifically sought it out. Unfortunately, that meant she usually sought out trouble right along with it.
The most memorable example, recounted by professors long after the Gryffindor's graduation to warn students from repeating Tala's mistakes, occurred during the very first month of her Hogwarts education. Upon learning that centaurs were real - half-human, half-horse beings that not only existed but also lived in the forest right next to the school - Tala proceeded to skip dinner one night and attempt to sneak into the Forbidden Forest to meet them. Unfortunately, she wasn't the stealthiest, and a prefect of her House managed to catch on to her wily ways after finding a scrap of parchment entitled "Questions to Ask the Centaurs in the Forest" left accidentally behind in the Gryffindor common room. Whoops.
However, when they found her later that evening after a hastily thrown-together search - actually quite deep in the forest, rather impressive for an eleven-year-old - Tala was not the shivering, terrified picture of fear that most of the elders had expected. In fact, she was glowing with excitement after having seen a real live centaur, still chattering and complaining on about how she had "just been curious to chat with the centaurs!" and "didn't deserve to be dragged out of there like a naughty cat!"
Again, any other child would have been likely reduced to tears after such a trip to a dark, dangerous forest alone. They'd have begged forgiveness from the professors, promised to never go into the Forbidden Forest again, and served their well-earned detention hours with humility and shame. But not Tala. In fact, it wasn't the only time she snuck out to the forest to meet with creatures during her time at Hogwarts - though she got better at remembering to pick up her parchment scraps after that incident and its subsequent ten hours of detention. Still, scrubbing trophies and toilets did nothing to reduce her fearless nature.
(Well, at least she wasn't scared of animals. Humans? Now that was a different story altogether.)

ReducioBorn to muggle parents on Liverpool's famous Scotland Road, or 'Scottie Road', as they used to call her, Brian's early life was no different from any muggle's in his neighbourhood. He grew up traversing the same streets as they did, going to the same schools, playing the same sports and using the same muggle devices that the wizarding world looked down upon so heavily. The only magic he knew was the magic of the strong social cohesion of his local community, as he and his friends tried to circumnavigate a world of poverty and destitution. If it weren't for him exhibiting magic at age seven, he would've lived as any ordinary muggle, possibly following in his father's footsteps and picking up the longshoreman's trade, if that trade hadn't been taken over by automated machines and corporate interests, that is.
Yet, as fate would have it, Brian did show himself to be a wizard, receiving his Hogwarts letter at age eleven. He'd felt good about attending Hogwarts. Brian wasn't content to become a dockworker like his father, and hoped that he could escape his old, poverty-stricken life in north Liverpool by working hard and becoming a decent wizard. Before his acceptance letter and shopping haul at Diagon Alley, Gaffey hadn't even known that there was an entirely new, magical world out there, let alone set foot in it. He found it increasingly difficult and overwhelming to adapt to a culture he didn't know, which wasn't helped by the fact that his life's setting changed from deprived post-industrial slum in Liverpool to luxurious highland castle at Hogwarts.
This was all made worse still as, unlike many purebloods who have ancestral and societal connections to other students, Brian largely had to brave his predicament alone. He'd found himself to be at odds with many other children, particularly those from well-off, pureblooded families, as the fact that their cultural disconnect was reinforced by their wildly different socio-economic situation.
Suffice to say, using magic certainly didn't come to him naturally, especially with the other pressures mounted on his back. During his first few months at school, he noticed that his magical ability wasn't as refined or powerful as that of many of his peers, which frustrated him endlessly as it undermined whatever preconceptions he had previously held about what his time at Hogwarts would look like.
Still struggling to integrate into a society he hardly even recognises, Brian has gone back to his old ways for lack of a viable alternative. He hardly ever uses magic outside of classes, and still very much relies on everything he's learnt among muggles.
