Sell to the system - the items aren't worth anything so you won't get anything for it.

Sell to another person - yes, sure, if you find someone and have an agreement about the price. Just beware that it would fall under the name of same rules as OOC shops, meaning the trades won't be policed by staff, and if someone doesn't pay or doesn't send the potion, there's nothing that can be done.

What do prefects do OOC? I understand they are forum moderators and helps staff student connections but is there anything else? What about IC? Thanks!

IC the Prefects interact with students and staff, in RP threads. This will often involve getting and serving detention. During the recent SlytherDrama, our Prefects were busy supporting the Headmaster and Head of House, they were sent to fetch other professors with specific abilities, they were sent to take the miscreants to the hospital wing. They had to take care of other students, making sure everyone is okay. They also sorted out and adjudicated the knife incident from the night before the would-be murder.

Prefects are also students! We can thread with them, play sports with them, make friends (or enemies) with them just like anyone else.

And OOC? Anything else they do? I might apply for prefect in the future so wondering if I could take on that responsibility

OOC, I'm pretty sure they help staff with whatever needs doing behind the scenes --- monitoring for abandoned threads, general policing of forums, fielding questions or problems, maybe grading homework.

There are a lot of Prefects, and some are first years, so you'd be in good company as far as experience goes, plus you'd have lots of support. Questioning whether or not you can take on the responsibility is wise. But of course, Ravenclaw! I think your best bet would be to owl Sam or Bubba and ask them your questions as well as floating the idea of joining the ranks. They can certainly help you along the process!

Prefects moderate the forum and discord. This includes locking and unlocking threads, moving threads, checking word count, checking content for rule breaks, deleting messages, handling reports.

But there are also behind the scenes development and staff teams, such as Validations to assist new users with account creation, Index to handle trunk and ability applications, lore, etc. A prefect may run an errand or event if needed and contribute to staff discussions and decision making.

Most Prefects are astonished with the amount of work that is done behind the scenes. T add to the above, they also have moderation responsibilities on discord - adding members to groups, monitoring the chats, deleting messages, maintaining content restrictions. They also have a voice in system development, issues with 'problematic' players, investigations into multi-accounts, investigations into cheating or deviant (oc) behaviors that impact the community and voting on site changes when applicable. They also have a voice in votes regarding the addition of their peers. This is in addendum to what Phaedra mentioned.
