@Ash Brown

OMG Hash! That is, to begin with, incredibly rude. Especially when you say it to a family member. Even worse when you say it during a wedding ceremony. And the worst part, I agree. Having pimples is absolutely awful, it hurts and you look like you’ve been stung by way to many mosquitoes. Whatever. Your parents’ reaction is … questionable? They might not have wanted to offend him, since it was his wedding day but still… This was not a joke. And if it was, it wasn’t a cold one, but a mean one.
You are awesome and literally one of the most funny aliens in here.

And he's really sweet over text, he's obsessed actually. But in person he barely talks? And I told him i didnt like the switch up, and then the next thing i know i was the one saying sorry because he said it doesnt feel like hes good enough for me. But other than that, he's super sweet. Ash, people are unkind. Their life is sad and shallow. However, that does not make their words and actions any less harmful. The same in regards to the lack of support from your family. A joke is only a joke if it is funny, it becomes an insult or an attack when it is hurtful. The question to pose when told "it is only a joke" is to say, "I do not get the joke. How is it funny? I took it as someone telling me I am ugly and it hurting my self-esteem. Does this mean I can insult someone about their appearance and it should be accepted because I added the tagline 'I was only joking.'" Sadly, you are unlikely to make an impact, people will not realize their error for years if ever.

As for what you can control, your acne. Let's have a brief discussion about this and various means to manage acne. There are many forms of acne, from cystic acne to normal breakouts. Severe forms of acne are very hard to treat and require prescription medication. However, milder forms of acne can be managed with a struct skin care routine with the exception of the occasional zit often aligning with a part of your menstrual cycle if female.

1. Blackheads, they are your enemy. Consider using something like Biore strips to clear out pores. They are very effective. I would follow this with a facial toner.
2. Facial cleansers. I personally suggest something that has salicylic acid and is oil free. I personally like exfoliation, but there are many options without exfoliation, such as Neutrogena's oil-free face wash. Morning and night, make this a part of your routine.
3. Treat the acne you have. There are creams and these days patches you can place over acne. Make this a part of your evening routine to shrink your acne.
4. Make-up. While make-up is great for covering up acne, it can also be a source of acne. When home, take it off. When you are not going out, don't use it. Change your brushes and your product every 6 months to prevent bacterial growth in our make-up.

Adding on to Lear, sometimes certain foods can make acne really bad. For me it’s when I have a lot of sugar, I’ll get really bad breakouts. For others it can be dairy. Either way, it’s best to look out for those things!

Before looking for a cleaner, definitely try to figure out your skin type. If you use a super tough face wash and you have dry skin, your skin is going to get worse. Same can be said for the opposite.

Routine! I’m not saying have a 10 step crazy routine, I’m saying to be consistent. It should be part of your routine. Make it a habit to always wash your face before you brush your teeth in the morning and at night, or make it a specific step in your routine. On average, it takes 66 days for a new habit to stick!

I had a serious, and I mean serious, acne problem in my early teens. I even used to look at my shoes while talking to someone, avoiding eye contact so as not to catch their gaze on my face. My acne has gone away over the years. So I understand that feeling and I know how cruel the people around us, even our parents, can be at times, whether intentionally or not.

The suggestions above are pretty solid. Just my two pennies' worth: Looks, while relatively important, are not the only, and even one of the important things that define us. It is a huge misconception that we are beautiful/handsome/charming/sweet to the extent that we are admired by others. We often tend to neglect this and base our relationship with ourselves on the often twisted perspectives of others. The years when we usually have to deal with acne are a period when our lives can be quite difficult even without it. So, please be kind to yourself. Those who bully others because of such trivial physical features are doomed to live shallow lives, even if a horde of admirers line up outside their door. It would be too unwise to take their opinions and words seriously.

Unfortunately, it is not always possible to teach others to treat people nicely; we often do not have enough time or patience for such a goal. And there are other times when we are faced with lost causes that we cannot fix even if we spend all our patience and time. But it's always possible to protect ourselves mentally from being negatively affected by their words and behaviour. In addition to a skincare routine, I humbly recommend trying to discover ways to do so.

I realize I am a bit late to this conversation, but I think I have something to add.

I have pretty bad acne. Nothing OTC has helped, nor has my prescription. But that isn't actually the problem. The problem is I used to pick at my acne. Meaning that my entire face is covered in acne scars.

It was the worst throughout middle school. The social anxiety it gave me was terrible. But I think there is a point where you can become in a way numb. Not that I don't see it or hate it, but that when I'm out with people I can forget it, and focus on what I'm doing. In a way, I think my friends don't see it anymore, that they see me, and holding on to that gives me confidence with strangers. I think the best way to as Saunders put it "protect ourselves mentally from being negatively affected" is to in a way accept it, and realize that while it is there it's not important to the people that are important. I have a routine, I even have a prescription, but it's not going away for me. Instead, I anchor myself with everything else, at least enough to ignore it when others are mean:)

Can someone explain to me why I feel like I'm constantly treading on eggshells or thin ice every day? I feel like I did something wrong; although I know I didn't. I feel like a horrible person everyday for no apparent reason. I get the shakes randomly every day, upon the realisation that I probably don't deserve some things. I question myself every day, if I'm actually living. I feel like a void, I feel nothing. I try to feel good about myself, I practised compassion and empathy. I'm active about using my platforms to spread news about matters that happens around the world. I advocated for women like me, I shamelessly defend someone helpless. I give. I advocated for beings that contributed in the ecosystem too. I disgustingly overeducated myself, to feel smart and respected and not to be underestimated. I educated myself about things that needs to be known out there. I love and despise humanity. And yet, I feel like an imposter. I feel like I'm fabricating myself, I feel like I was actually lying. Although it was all genuine. All the things I do is for everyone else. But I feel like I'm a melting candle; I feel like I'm already losing sense of myself. Is this really me? What have I become? Does people think I'm horrible too?

It was so funny too, how people around me idolise me for being resilient and confident. Little did they know that was all a façade, because who would actually want to be laid bare, naked along with your insecurities? I would say, “it was all a pretense, of course!” then they would laugh, regarding it as spectacular acting, then. The world is difficult sometimes; it never was black and white. It has categories, branches, and all that nonsense. My brain is hurting for trying to keep up. 😆

I don't actually expect for someone to understand or reply. I just feel like venting this years of frustration. 😆

hi!
first, I hope youre ok. Second, I know the feeling and I've been there.Last year my mental health was sp bad, but eventually I spent more time alone and became comfortable with myself before I really put myself out there. Feeling like you're a terrible person is honestly normal. We as people are our worst enemies.

Needless to say, you are not a terrible person. But talking abou with with people and friends is a good way to get those feelings out.I hope you can see that you are not awful, you are here for a reason. If you ever need to vent, my owls are always always *always* open < 3
