This is something that woul definitely require reregistration.

It is possible to join the site and then stay a first year by retroactively making your character join school later. This is usually only for people who join the site at the end of the school year or have not RPed with their character yet before they become a second year. This becomes impossible to do if one has many RPs of their character being a first year. At that point, we usually suggest people make a new character if they want to try first year again. But if there are no RP conflicts, one can then make their character a first year in the following year.

Excuses for staying behind a year is up to each person, it just matters that it makes sense and it's been discussed with index.

However I feel like it's worth mentioning that everyone will inevitably have stretches of time where they aren't active. I usually write that off as them being focussed on school work, or not doing anything too spectacular. You could always say that they didn't really do much to come out of their shell during first year, and really started making friends and doing things around school in second year. That's what I did for Flash, since I joined in February. My explanation for no threads before then was just that he was getting used to the school and classes before really getting to know anyone or partaking in any sports or errands.

That and big stories like that you plan to rp in the future. Those need to be reregistered too.

Do you have examples of 'big stories', which count as such?

One example would be your character discovering that they aren't actually muggleborn but are from a pureblood family but was adopted as a baby. If your character finds out something that goes against their original backstory, that would require reregistering.

I personally did it in the wrong order and simply got lucky that nothing needed to be changed. I first rped it and reregistered months later.

What you are supposed to do is register it here, write out the idea and wait until it was approved. Don't play until it was approved.
