Castelobruxo’s geographical environment was intimidating. Even with the logical explanation that magic likely played a role, the arena for Capture The Flag was intimidating as it was realistic. Humidity was blanketed thick over the arena, thick evergreen canopies casting pockets of shadow between glaring sunlight. With the sheer density of the forest, any and all incoming attackers would likely be concealed till their team was facing them face-to-face.

Unfamiliar territory was a silent killer of even the most skilled, much less a gaggle of children.

Erast gripped his wand tightly, each step light with caution. How could this be a fun sport for children? It felt more like some sort of survival stimulation, with weapons at that! From the distance, the sounds of flowing water carried over. A waterfall? Lake? Uncertainty creeping, his steps slowed to stray further towards the back of the group. As soon as the lagoon’s reflective waters came to sight, disaster struck. SWISH. A large serpent came into view, whipping out its thick scaly tail. He gasped as Frederick’s attempt to evade the creature failed, and next to him, Rosaline getting snatched into its clutches.

“Fred, Rosa!” Erast twitched, body conflicted between rushing forward to help or run in the opposite direction. 天呀My gosh, why did he keep encountering stuff like this?

Damien just chuckled as he looked at Artie, he didn’t understand why he would want to live here it was way too warm than Damien was used too but just the way Artie smiled as he spoke about this place to Damien. Well it made him feel flustered and he didn’t know how to act at all. More and more recently he realized Artie has something about him that was just captivating and addicting about him, it drew Damien to him more and more he didn’t understand it nor want to as for now he was just happy to be next to Artie and see how happy he was. Damien didn’t know why but he felt protective of Artie almost like a knight in a romance novel he had read before where instead of a princess it was a prince he was protecting.

He made a simple vow to himself, he had to protect Artie no matter what, not just because he was his friend but because something in him urged him to protect him. Maybe it was magic ? Or some ancient spirit pushing Damien closer to Artie he truly didn’t understand what he felt but he knew he had to protect Artie at all cost. He snapped out of his thoughts as he just flashed Artie another charming smile as he just pressed his finger against his nose. “Only you would think living somewhere as hot as this is fun haha..it’s kinda cute”

As Damien said that he didn’t realize what he had just said, to him it was a simple compliment that he was giving Artie. Could it have hidden meaning underneath it, sure it most definitely could have but Damien didn’t understand it yet or couldn’t grasp what it meant. For what he knew he just enjoyed teasing Artie and seeing how flustered he could get, it wasn’t like he liked him or anything ….did he ? NO! Of course not he couldn’t like Artie when he himself barely knew what true love felt and looked like.

He pushed those feelings away as he decide right now he wanted to focus on having fun and winning this match. Once their team flag was put down somewhere safe he looked around to see if he noticed or recognized anyone on his team. Right now he did not see anyone he knew personally however he did recognize someone he had never spoken to before.

He took Artie hand with him so that way he wouldn’t lose the boy as he was sure he would wander off like a lost puppy dog who didn’t know where to go, as he made his way towards a certain boy who was definitely not from Hogwarts. “Hey! Aren’t you that boy who team won the hockey games during the international magical Olympics ?..you’re uhhh Lachlan Cassidy right ? Damien Dragonclaw lovely to meet you and this adorable blonde is my friend Artie Kempston!” As he said this he smiled at Artie giving a small wink as he knew Artie hated whenever Damien teased him or called him adorable.

“You’re team was absolutely goated! I enjoyed watching that game a lot!” While sure he was mainly there to support Giovanni and Elena he enjoyed watching the other games as well.

Paul looked over the other members of his team, as they started moving towards the neighbouring zone. There were several boys, who were past of the team. None of them had Paul ever talked to. He recognized some of them from school though.

"If we die in here, Blue, wherever we are, I'll make sure my ghost haunts your ghost for eternity."
Paul smirked, as the brunette girl spoke. "Well, there are some positives. Just imagine haunting the jungle for eternity. If you stayed here, you could explore this place together forever." Said the boy, the corners of his lips twitching. "I'm joking. Death is too high a price for eternity in jungle."

Paul paused after that, walking in silence and listening to the others.

Seeing @Damien Dragonclaw grab @Artie Kempston's hand and lead him around, entertained him. For a few moments, Paul happened to be moving nearby, hearing out Damien's part about wizarding Olympics. Hm, that could have been super interesting! How come I wasn't part of it?

"Was it like... wizarding Olympics with Muggle sports?" Did Paul humm towards the boys, then added quickly. "I've overheard ya speaking... sorry if I'm intruding. Paul, by the way, from Hogwarts." He rised his hand, giving them a small wave and a smile.

In a light mood, regardless of the humidity and the hot tropical weather, Rosaline was quite excited for the game. With a smile tugging at the corners of her lips, she secretly approached Fred and Leo from behind and then patted their shoulders with her palms. “Hey!” she grinned innocently. She wasn’t sure whether her little prank was successful or not, but it didn’t matter. “Are you boys ready for the game?” She asked playfully. Being surrounded by her friends made her at ease in this foreign environment.

Standing aside from the boys, Rosaline adjusted her shirt, which she wore as outerwear, then took it off, tying it on her waist due to the hotness of the rainforest. It was a bit hard to believe it was winter here.

Glancing around, she noticed the American boy had introduced himself. 'Ilias.' A nice name in her opinion. Then Rosaline realized she hadn’t properly made known to her teammates. “I’m Rosaline. If it’s not too late to introduce myself. It’s nice to be on the team with you guys.” She said with a warm tone in her voice.

Time moved fastly. The poison dart frogs had decided they would walk to the Zone 2 area. As curious as Rosaline was, she kept observing the forest while striding with her teammates. Her ocean eyes lit up with every new finding: the different shapes of leaves, the unusual bird chirps, and even the texture on the tree trunks would pique her interest. Yet, an unknown tenant from the Amazon forest soon came and destroyed her little fun discovery channel section.

An anaconda.

The said creature crawled on the ground, so agile that it almost mesmerized her. It approached them sneakily until it was noticed. Rosaline’s eyes widened at the scene, and her legs froze. It wasn’t her first encounter with a snake, she didn’t live that far from nature. But the mere thought of the anaconda, this giant, still frightened her. It swiftly climbed up on her and Fred, strangling them tightly. She could feel its cool scales. It would be a nice feeling under this temperature, but not in this situation. Fred and she were in a face-to-face position. It might have been the first time they were so close with each other, physically. There was no time to think about this. Air. Rosaline could feel the air in her lungs being squeezed out completely, like an empty mayonnaise bag. Wheezing in horror, she couldn’t even scream. She still tried to use her only free hand to smack the anaconda, fighting for a chance to get out from its hold.

xxxSkylar feels her worries ease up slightly as they move zones, her previous nerves no longer getting to her as much as they did. Their little trek to zone 3 was actually quite nice. The team got to know each other better and they were lucky enough to not encounter any creatures or environmental threats. However, that does not mean she could let her guard down just yet. Those who fail to win are those who get too arrogant. Skylar is grateful for the luck on their side, but is also weary of how long it would last. It is better to put things into their own hands instead of leaving it up to fate.

And if Skylar were to be honest, she was quite happy about the plan they had come up with. Despite not having much experience, the young girl found herself still understanding most of the game mechanics. Many of the members on their team also show extreme potential. She makes a mental note on all of them, trying to remember their names and not butcher them. One of the Ilvermony boys, Percy, she believes, seems like a nice enough person. She has not heard much about baseball, as cricket is more popular back in England, but maybe his skills in the sport will help. Though she was caught off guard in the beginning from his accidental slip of tongue, she was quickly humbled by Lachlan, who spoke with no remorse and has the most heavy American accent she has ever heard. Probably not even an accent per se, but his way of speaking was... interesting.

She would be lying though if she was not relieved to be by her friends, no matter how annoyed Mika seems to be. She doubts the game would be half as fun without them, so she tries her best to keep close to them. With a reassuring pat on her best friend's shoulder and a few fist bumps with the other Wayfinders, Skylar finds a comfortable spot by their sides as she moves with the group. Everyone seems to be getting along quite nicely. A little too nicely.

The Gryffindor raises her eyebrows as she watches the interactions between Damien and Artie, a smirk tugging at her lips. The two are being so obvious with their fancy for one another. Though she really wants to know about their history, Skylar is by no means a nosy person. She shall let the two lovebirds float on their own boat and watch how it goes.

As they arrive in zone 3 unscathed, Skylar turns and offers the rest of the group a cheerful grin. "Alrighty folks! Welcome to Zone 3. From the looks of it, this wonderful little forest is... uh... something." The girl's initial enthusiasm was quickly replaced as she faces the dark, crooked trees that grew every which way. She could barely make out anything before her and little sunlight filtered through.

"Well, isn't this a jolly place? We'll be fine." The girl says unconvincingly with an awkward chuckle.

OOC NOTES

I kept moving as I kept an ear on the other conversation. Don't get me wrong, I'm not usually this gossipy. It's not my fault that they're basically eating in front of the poors!

Anyhow, the sudden shift of environments quickly took my thoughts away. It was... dark. I liked dark. I can coordinate myself better in the dark. Sky seemed to be nervous. I took her hand and tried to give her a quick, comforting squeeze. This game was easy... for now. Who knows what kind of threats could be waiting for us in the other side of this jungle.

Honestly, it kind of reminded me of my dad's favorite saga, The Hunger Games. Specifically, the third quarter quell's arena. The whole concept of the different zones, each one with a different threat... there's no way to convince me they didn't get the inspiration from there.

I had to talk to someone. Sky will kill me if I walk out of here without a friend. And I know my best friend can look so cute and calm always, but you haven't seen her when she's determined to something. That girl is able to convince a mountain of moving out of pure willpower. It scares me sometimes.

But who can I talk to? I don't know nobody in here...

Focus on the game, Hendricks. Win it first, friends later.

“Oi!” Frederick exclaimed as he felt Rosaline tap him on the shoulder, immediately turning with a grin. The gesture had caught him off guard, but it would take more than that to truly startle him. “I’m sure I am,” he replied, giving her and Leo, standing beside her, a playful wink. Deep down, little Buckley wasn't quite as confident about venturing into an unfamiliar Amazonian rainforest as he let on. But he had courage, and with his friends by his side, that was enough.

Whether it was fate having a laugh or not, something soon appeared that genuinely frightened Frederick. The moment he and his team advanced into the second zone of the field, a clearing that opened onto a beautiful river fed by a roaring waterfall, he saw the enormous snake rushing straight toward them. Instinctively, without a second thought, Buckley tried to dodge through the water, but it was no use. First, he watched the anaconda coil itself around Rosaline. A heartbeat later, it wrapped itself around him as well. The situation might have been comical, perhaps even awkward, given how close he suddenly was to his friend, if it hadn't been so dangerous. Frederick found himself pressed tightly against Rosa, their faces only inches apart as the snake's crushing coils squeezed the air from both of them.

He heard someone calling out to them, he thought it was Erast, but he couldn't turn to see anything beyond what was directly in front of him. Fred could see the fear in Rosa's eyes, a reflection, no doubt, of the look on his own face. But he also saw that she refused to let panic take over. Just like her, he fought back against his fear, struggling against the snake in an attempt to free them. “Rosa, where's this snake's head? Let's hit it with a spell!” He tried in vain to raise the wand he still gripped tightly in his hand, only to realize that almost every movement was restricted by the creature's powerful coils.

Deep down, as terrible as becoming an anaconda's prey was, Frederick found himself oddly grateful that, of everyone there, he'd ended up trapped with Rosaline. Her presence had always put him at ease, from the ordinary days at Hogwarts to encouraging each other on the Quidditch pitch, and this moment was no different. Fred wasn't about to let Rosa, or his team, down. The second he could move again, he'd break free and get back into the game.

xxxAs the terrain blossomed back into an expanse of lush greeneries and crooked trees, Ellaine trailed somewhere in the middle of the group. During their bout of planning, a collective agreement had been made. The decision to return to the third zone, while she could understand its practicality, did not contribute much to her ease. Everywhere she looked, it seemed, contained something or the other that was bound to block her view from an ambush.

The knowledge that at any time, anything could burst out between the thick and intertwining branches… It did nothing to settle her mind, and thus she spent the entire walk warily eyeing the trees around, looking away every now and then, shielding her eyes from the sun’s glare that reached her through the gaps of the canopies above. With nothing else to do, she eventually settled on her old hobby; that is, people-watching, with a good dose of eavesdropping into the mix.

Some ways ahead of her, Ellaine was treated to the curious sight of the black-haired boy – a Ravenclaw by the name of Damien, she believed – leading… Artie by his hand around. They were approaching the American student from Ilvermorny… a Lachlan. It was odd; in that she’d never actually seen boys of her age acting with such familiarity together, and she was quite— fascinated. They looked quite lovely together. Of course, she kept that thought to herself. They seemed to be enjoying this walk enough, if their expressions are to be taken.

Paul, good-natured optimist he is, introduced himself to them. Amusement glittered in her eyes – she’d never understand how boys seemed to instantly bond over sports, but it did not trouble her much. A restlessness buzzed at the end of her fingertips, and she needed something to keep her still.

Naturally, Ellaine walked just a little bit closer towards Skylar, who’d been walking alongside Mikaela – a fellow first-year, if she understood correctly. If Paul was anything like her father or her brother, they were going to be talking a long while… or not. Who knew— maybe a giant snake-spider would jumpscare them.

Wiping at his brow to alleviate some of the sweat, the boy moved away from the other group of his teammates, mostly girls, he noted, and vaguely weaved through the trees, searching about. He thought to himself more about the potential creatures the tropical rainforest had. Could some of them be magical? ... That's a scary thought. I wouldn't even know where to begin with that. Words flittered about in his brain, and he heard briefly the blue haired girl talking nearby.

No matter now- this was serious business. This capture the flag game had to be won. He couldn't do it himself, he realized, watching the rather rugged British boy chattering and dragging along the brighter haired brit, weaving around in the forest. He would've lost sight of them if he hadn't been careful, watching as they approached the other boy that had spoken. He eyed them, wondering when would be the right time to barge in to the conversation. Boys were much easier to talk to than girls. He wasn't as scared of messing up or saying the wrong thing. It was rather silly, he noted, it wasn't like he had a crush on any girl in particular. He shook his head, screeches of tropical birds bringing him back to what was happening.

"... team won the hockey games during the international magical Olypmics?" The words snaked around the trees, and Percy perked up as he heard them. Oh my God- Another hockey player! He literally jumped, making his way across roots and trees that grew between them. Now more than ever was the time to speak to his other teammates. If there had been any fear, it was all drowned out by the addictive love for Hockey Percy Todd Duplenticy held in his heart. He cleared his throat, brushing some of the hair that had fallen into his eyes aside as he strode up to where they had been standing.

"I can't lie, I was totally eavesdropping. Lachlan- You play Hockey? And you're American? How have we never met?" Percy Todd's eyes were wide. He didn't think any of the wizards in America knew what Hockey were. They were all busy talking about Summoner's Court and that janky Quidditch- but never Hockey. He put so much emphasis and emotion into it, he felt super excited. The most excited he had felt since arriving in South America, honestly.

"You're Artie?" He pointed at the blonde. "That's such a cool name- I've only ever heard it in a TV show." He noted, grinning. The energy he felt standing around these boys was energetic. He didn't even consider how bold he was being, rather glad he had something in common with people who felt too out of his league. He bobbled on the toes of his shoes, ingoring the sweltering heat for a moment.

𝖁alour watched the boy as they moved in tandem through the trees. As they roamed, she kept an all-seeing eye on her surroundings, wondering if a member of the opposing team might appear in her periphery. They absent-mindedly contemplated what fouls might possibly be barred in the game. It was hard to fathom that putting children into a perilous terrain might be permitted by the Headmaster, and not some good old-fashioned punches and foul play. That was usually half the fun of games like this and partially why Valour had signed up. The prospect of exploring the Amazon and fighting tooth and nail to win by any means necessary – why, she hoped this would become an annual event.

The boy at her side seemed to shift nervously at her scrutiny, her milky eyes narrowing impishly at the way he sweated under the unrelenting glare of the sun. How endearing. He agreed with her observation, though secretly Val hoped she would be proven wrong. Not that she wouldn’t enjoy the frequency of his strangely distracting company, but that she wished she wouldn’t grow to detest it. Her and Ilias were not thick as thieves by any means – their last encounter had entailed Valour throwing her stilettos at him with startling accuracy – but their lack of friendly affection gave way to an ambiguous game of intellectual sparring she’d been severely lacking at Hogwarts. I mean, Christ, people could be dull. Sans a few, such as Duncan who tended to match her wit and cruelty with a magnetic quality, and Clark and de Varenne who were equal parts charming and mysterious, the students back home tended to be your typical quirky one-dimensional eleven year olds. Ilias was slightly different – painfully awkward and guarded like a penitentiary. Something behind his eyes of moss and fog, there was cold distrust, fear and skepticism. The way he seemed to categorise his peers and shut them out, it certainly sparked Valour’s imagination; nobody learned to look over their shoulder without practice. While many must look upon the boy – well-meaning teachers and overly optimistic peers alike – and wonder how they might fix him, Valour found his bitterness to be a quality she wouldn’t want to change.

“I don’t even know you.” Her grin widened like a Cheshire cat, and she couldn’t help but let out a huff of amusement. You’re right there. You don’t. Content to keep walking, she wove amongst low-hanging vines and thorns with bemused glint in her pale eyes. As she began to consider their strategy for the rest of the game, her thoughts were interrupted with a sharp but gentle tug on her hair. Head snapping in the direction of the disturbance, she found Cecilia, smiling wryly at her. Ah, sweet payback. The girl innocently critiqued her choice of hairstyle and Valour returned the expression with a canine smirk. She was right, of course, but Valour knew that wasn’t her true intention with the gesture. Interrupting her trail of thought was something she found the vixen often did when around Valour. She let out a small laugh. A rare display for the girl, but a musical one, full of cheek. Pulling out her hair tie with a languid turn of her head, her silken locks fanned out behind her, reaching her lower back and curling like snakes. With a sly click of her tongue, they rolled their eyes, re-tying their hair into a more practical low-bun. That girl… She’ll be the death of me.

A murmur to her side earned a sidelong glance from the witch in its direction. She found Ilias already looking at her before training his eyes on the ground, tension quivering in his knotted brow. For the first time, Valour was slightly confused, furrowing her own eyebrow at her teammate. An inconvenient time to forget her thoughts, that was for certain. He was definitely pouting now, though she could not understand what for. Nevermind him and his wallowing, she figured, shooting him a pointed once-over and a slight narrow of her eyes. The rest of the team had exchanged pleasantry and Valour was delighted to spot a few M.A.P.S. operatives in their midst. Shooting Erast a curt nod, she drawled,I’m Valour, for those I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting before. As they stretched their arms and rolled their shoulders in a small warm-up, Val shot her teammates a smile, I have a good feeling about our odds. I mean have you seen the other team? She snickered quietly, a wicked little look in her eyes. She turned to Erast with a practiced authority that came with their meetings under moonlight. They exchanged little words except a mutter. Next zone on – let's restrategise there.

As they moved through the dense jungle into the next zone, it wasn’t long before Peralta’s words returned to her with unfortunate relevance. A pair of amber, beady eyes stared at them amidst ferns and undergrowth. Before Valour could so much as turn to her teammates, a fearsome snake had ensnared Rosaline and Frederick, hissing threatening and baring its venomous fangs. Valour’s jaw clenched in alarm, backing away slowly and searching for some sort of aid. Would it be stupid to hit the thing with a stick? Or would it perhaps be lured away with something? A distraction? In a stroke of genius, Ilias pelted a large rock in the reptile’s direction, earning an agitated snarl as it locked its gaze onto him – and by proxy, her. Brilliant. Maybe she should shove the boy towards the snake instead. She reached for her pocket and unsheathed a switchblade she’d kept on her person. Certainly not for any nefarious purposes or anything. A trusty Locksmith’s Knife she’d acquired in some dodgy bazaar, it was not intended to do damage, but it surely could. She pointed it in the direction of the anaconda, slightly uncertain what her grand plan was, but figuring it was the best she could do. It occurred to her, rather belatedly, that locksmiths rarely advertised snake-handling as a transferable skill. Still, she did not put it away. A better person might have thrown it to Rosa or Fred, to help them out of their predicament. Unfortunately, Valour was not so kind.
