Merlin's beard! I’m terrible at this hockey thing. That was Frederick’s thought as he fumbled his play, failing to hit his target with the stick. From the very beginning, the rules of the game hadn’t been very clear to him. In fact, he had never even heard of the sport until that moment. Still, he had believed he might do well, which clearly, was not the case.

Now his team consisted of only him and Adeline. The other two, first Maisie, then Robin, had been knocked out by the same opponent. Maybe the opposing team was already more familiar with the game and how it worked. Maybe that was it… or maybe Fred was just trying to fool himself. It was hard for him to admit that he was bad at something. His young, still immature mind simply didn’t allow it easily.

Keeping himself in motion, he skated in a wide arc so he could circle back and cross paths with Adeline. As he passed by her, Frederick raised both eyebrows and pressed his lips together, as if to say, what do we do now? In truth, with only two of them against four opponents, there weren’t many options left for the young witch and wizard who had decided to play hockey.

The second round had been less successful in every way imaginable. To her dismay, Adeline never once made it to the goal, no more points to be scored for her team, while the opposing had done the opposite. Still, the remaining trio pushed ahead, Fred and Addie holding down the ice the best they could.

The flow of things had been admittedly disturbed. One could easily blame Adeline’s inability to score on the previous rounds conclusion. Perhaps she was too soft for hockey. She knew she was a bit soft to be accompanying the ice without this Lachlan character, who was proving to be nothing short of a brute. A pretty and talented brute, but a stick swinging devil nonetheless. Adeline knew to be wary of him, that he could very well wipe another one of her friends out. Somehow, the clap of his stick colliding with Robins mask still came as a shock that sent anger pulsing through Adeline.

The trip to the hospital.. wherever it may be.. would be eventful for the team. If Addie had her way, the skaters across the lake would be waking in cots alongside Maisie and Robin. Adeline stayed silent, unwilling to engage the opposition. The next round would have to be executed with ultimate precision, a challenge she was ready to take.

Her blue eyes flicked to Frederick who was casting her a questioning, resigned look.“It’s now or never.” She spoke with calm, steady assurance. She offered her teammate one last unifying thumbs up before gripping her stick once more. Go time.

Debuffs

Buckley was quite annoyed at the dhampir on the other team and her scary, scary face, though she didn't seem to scare him as he reached for the back of her jersey. Unfortunately, de Brissac was just too fast of a skater and pulled away at the last moment - but a ref's whistle would send Buckley to the penalty box anyway, just for trying.

The Puck

It seemed to be a pattern by now, Spinks and de Brissac fighting for the puck. On the third of five face-offs, Spinks would simply shiver in fear from her terrifying counterpart, but in the other four she did manage to grab twice! On the other hand, de Brissac grabbed three of the five pucks from face-offs, scoring a beautiful four times from those three grabs (seriously, empty nets in hockey are no joke). And whilst Spinks was blocked once by Andrieux, she did manage to slip a single puck in past him to bring her team's score up by one!

The Defence

Buckley's trip to the penalty box made it easy for him to automatically evade Cassidy's attempt at a backwards high stick, and de Brissac seemed to scare even her own teammates, with Shaw trembling in fear when he was supposed to be smashing Spinks into the boards. That didn't mean that refs didn't see the latter, though, and Shaw would be off to join Buckley in the penalty box as the whistle blew to end the game.

This double-digit score from team Subzero meant they would absolutely take home the gold! And whilst team Wizards Playing Hockey wouldn't win any medals, we sure do hope they had fun.
