Lottie hated the cold.
It was perhaps the one truest fact about the young Slytherin girl, her complete and utter inability to withstand temperatures before her bodily threshold. This truth made her decision to join a figure skating competition notably comical.
Evpraksiya had been remarkably convincing. Uncertainty had been a strong inclination for Lottie until the prospect of emulating one of her favorite myths had come to into play. Orpheus and Eurydice, romantic and doomed. The inspiration of plays, operas, books, a raw illustration of grief and desperation. Really, the only answer had been yes.
Lottie wore a short, dark dress the color of dried blood, peppered with fabric roses that burst from the collar and trailed down to the small of her back, representing the fateful mortality of Orpheus in contrast with the divine failure of his plan. Soft sheer fabric draped from her skirt in thin folds, and encased her arms in a cloud-like shroud. Sewn into the delicate fabric were small black gems, finely cut to resemble vines. In her braided hair, a single clerodendrum incisum was woven, representing Orpheus’s divine connection to music.
It was all as perfect as Lottie could imagine. Evpraksiya was good at that. Perfection. The song, though, had been Lottie’s pick. Dance of the Blessed Spirits, a tantalizing mix of cello and piano meant to encapsulate the tragedy of the pair. The opera it originated from, Orfeo ed Euridice, had been one her sister used to hum on dreary days when the house was quiet enough to mirror death. Melancholy swelled in her heart just at the thought of it.
In truth, she hadn’t learned how to skate until a few months prior. There was a very good chance she would fly flat on her face at her first attempt, and it went without saying that the prospect terrified her. Now, though, there wasn't any going back. As she skated into starting position, she whispered a quick prayer into the open air.

With Camille’s gesture, Cecilia carefully set her foot onto the ice. Her figure straightened before she glided to her starting position. Those with a keen eye would notice that neither a hair nor a thread was out of place as her leotard decals glimmered under streaks of light. The delicate and pristine appearance was carefully crafted by her meticulous partner — Camille. Whilst there were certain sessions where Cecilia quietly hoped the ice would liquidate beneath his feet, her confidence in his abilities as a performer never wavered.
Of course, one should never conflate recognition with fondness. Though a gentle expression graced her face, it took great strength to resist flashing him a bone chilling glare when he whispered into her ear. Camille was rather fortunate to not be versed in legilimency at that moment, for a thousand curses began flooding her mind. However, her animosity quickly dissolved upon hearing the first note of the delicate melody.
It was time.
Lifting her head off his shoulder, Cecilia slipped her hand into his. Rouged lips curled into a smile as she thought about how they hid the volatile nature of their relationship rather well, for now. Any misstep during their performance would lead to a heated quarrel. Once he glided to a halt, she did the same and brandished her wand. With a graceful wave, she whispered “bullarum immortalem.”
Cecilia glided forth, intent on paying no mind to whether her spell was successfully cast. Leaning back, she slipped her arm around Camille’s shoulder and allowed him to gracefully guide her across the ice. Though they skated without any incident, Cecilia wished that they could pick up the speed. Unfortunately, that would disrupt their synchronisation so rather than enacting any change, she ensured to express her discontent whilst resting on his knee. As he spun her, Cecilia flashed him a firm scowl which she hoped would do the trick. Though it would quickly disappear when they attempted their first big trick…

The International Magical Olympic Games. It wasn’t some far fetched dream or unbelievable idea anymore. It was here. The ice, the skates. Everything. It was all here. It was all real.
Trying something for the first time was undoubtably going to bring on the uncontrollable shaking of nerves in young Amelia, but competing in an Olympic Games? That was just the next level of nerve racking. As such, Amelia found herself struggling with the overcoming shuddering of her breath and shaky body. There would be hundreds, maybe even thousands, of people watching her perform. What if she fell? What if she lost balance? Slipped on the ice? Humiliated herself?
No. She wasn’t going to think of it. She wasn’t going to fail. She was going to focus and cross her fingers for luck. A dosage of deep breathes were all that the nervous second year required to gain a calm over herself. And the tickling sensation that ran up her spine and prompted a small smile to dance over her face was undoubtably the effect of her growing excitement.
The ice rink was only to be described as beautiful, with the silky ice alike to that of the moon’s silvered figure, inviting Amelia teasingly into a dance. Yet another deep breath of reassurance and Amelia glided onto the ice in an imitation of a practiced skater.
That action was all the reassurance she needed to feel the flicker of shy excitement and hope spin through her veins. The hufflepuff might not have figured skated much, or at all before this trip, but somehow she found herself feeling as one with the ice almost automatically. She didn't have to try to just not embarrass herself. Maybe they could win. They could certainly try at least.
Reaching Pamela on the ice, the girl she considered to have a sweet nature from her short time of knowing, Amelia offered a smile tinged with nerves and excitement to the girl, she whispered a barely audible “good luck!”
And then the music began. The music that started a dance. The music that made a promise.

Evpraksiya too, had a special hatred for the cold.
It didn't matter if she were in her warmed music room, sat placidly in the cradle of luxuery of St.Petersburg or on the center of Koldovstoretz's ice skating rink, it'd always been her final foe. Hot or cold, her body couldn't seem to find a temperate that wouldn't send Evpraksiya scurrying for a heat-charmed cloak or a delicious cold cherry cordial cream soda— it was lucky then, that Nadezhda had came through with her costume a few weeks before the spectacle. Frankly she had complex feelings about being in Koldovstoretz— Aulis made her skin crawl and Evpraksiya wasn't one to shy away from negativity, he seemed to be perfectly content to say nothing about what he saw during the Xiang family ball but ultimately the seat he sat on was on Russian soil and Evpraksiya was of the Vinogradov family— that made him a concern. If he'd went with the knowledge to the authorities there'd be no way she could conceal what happened from her sister and by extension, no way she could conceal it from her father. She didn't want him to look at her the same way he looked at Nadezhda.
Frankly it annoyed her to see no moves being made on the chessboard, her weakness for all she'd done to be rid of it, was her impatience and it was strangling her, two searingly hot hands of frustration around her neck. Perhaps that'd been what motivated the first letter. Frusration, a need to see things through, a want for control back from where it'd been slipping through her rosy fingers.
(Personally, she thought it'd been rather cruel of the universe to set her against a saints damned seer. Was it penance from fate for gaining the favour of some few younger prophets? She couldn't control what they thought of her, it wasn't her fault she'd been.... Kind.)
So it was compltely understandable why Evpraksiya had originally been shy to step on the ice. But then she'd seen Charlotte dear, walking along the snow cleared path and suddenly, the figure skating seemed much less of a annoyance and much more of an opportunity— for friendship that is! So yes, she may have been vaguely aware of some rather unscrupulous actions her own family may have taken against Charlottes father, but really, the entire reason she'd approached Charlotte in the first place was to ah, check up on what she knew. If that excuse rang hollow even to Evpraksiya's own ears then that was certainly no one's business but her own.
—
The ice caught the afternoon's pale winter sun and fractured it throughout the rink into a thousand shards of light. For a fleeting second she saw herself reflected dully on the frozen water before her skates kissed the surface with a whisper that gave way from the certainty of her face to the dream of her costume.
Unlike Orpheus she wasn't decorated in the carmine or vermillion of the living, of passion, fevor.
Her costume was a vision in opalescent blush and the winter pearl, the bodice was fitted close and intricately embroidered with crystalline beading that caught the light in a reminiscence of frost across a windowpane. Fine threads of silver traced delicate patterns over her torso, branching outward like frozen vines underneath the midwinter sun. The skirt fell in soft, airy layers of sheer chiffon, the color shifted between a blushing rose and ivory with every movement.
But it was really the wings that Evpraksiya adored, from her arms unfurled great pleated panels of translucent fabric, structured and iridescent, fanning outward with each extension of her limbs. They curved the suggestion of angelic pinions. When she lifted her arms, the pleats spread wide, refracting faint hints of green and silver— she didn't know Nadezhda had commissioned but whoever it was managed gather the aurora and stitched it into silk.
Beloved Eurydice, radiant in her death and untouched by sorrow.
Evpraksiya stepped onto the ice behind Charlotte, close enough to feel the faint shift of air as Lottie settled into position. Close enough to see the single clerodendrum woven into her braid.
Orpheus stood before her and Eurydice, already claimed by the underworld, stood behind him.

Partner skating for the younger years was sure to be interesting. Gray and Forville stunned with a picture-perfect triple waist hold and a different spell each, pulling them strongly into first place. However, two pairs were close behind in tied second: Manjunath and Evans, and Takahashi and Xiang, both with similar programs involving single axels and the Snowflake-Creating Charm. Tied for third, or fourth depending on who you ask, were the pairs of De Varenne/Merrick and Caussade/Toussaint, with double holds and charms involving snowflakes and bubbles. The Actions
Astor and Lancaster with their double twist and Christmas-coloured sparks scored highly as well, as did Yan and Pass with absolute perfection on Yan's part even though Pass fell out of his lutz. Noxley and Everhart pulled off a gorgeous waist hold lift and a single snowflake charm, but missed out on not trying another charm; Clark carried her team with a triple flip and charm as De'Luca stared in awe. Winfield and Vinogradova were another pair with one carrying, as Winfield's quad axel was lovely even though she tried to cast a spell she didn't know.
Finally, Lerelle seemed not to do anything as Graham critically failed her single upright spin, but managed to pull off a snowflake charm worth a few points. Unfortunately, the pair of Hills and Murphy seemed to have a day of bad luck, not completing a successful element and remaining at the bottom of the scoreboard.
Still one more round to go. It's still anyone's game...

𝕵ulia was thrilled! Both she and Laasya had been successful in their action, a single Axel and snowflake-creating charm, which meant they would now be second place with 27 points. Julia smiled, their first move had been simple, but nobody knew about the last move. Smiling, she continued with her routine doing a camel and double layback spin before doing a double lutz and toe-loop. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Laasya doing the same but on her left. Unlike most, she and Laasya had decided on symmetry for their actions. Each action would either be one doing it to the left and other to the right, or both of them in the center. She focused on her routine once more aware of what was to come. If they messed this up, they would likely hurt themselves and go down all the way in the rankings, let alone a chance to win. But on the other hand if they succeeded, they would probably shoot up and get first place. It all depended on this. She took a deep breath, trying to ease the inward butterflies determined to not let any emotions show, as their music continued forward, slowly creeping up to the moment of truth.
● ● ● ● ● It was time. Their music moved up to its final notes as Laasya and julia finished up with their routine. Their whole routine had been picture-perfect so far. The aced every move and every spell they did. The 3 months of practice had certainly paid off. Julia could only hope it was enough. As they did the last few actions before the ending, Julia felt like she was 5 once more, learning to skate with her cousin. When her family had been whole, not broken and destroyed as it was now. It hurt to know that those treasured moments were now just memories with no meaning to them. Just an impression in her brain, which showed what used to be, what should be, and compared it to what was. Julia still clung to the tiny threads of hope that her family would be stable once more. Loving one another so much so that it was anchored, rooted, refusing to break apart. But during the last 2 months, her hopes and been declining. They really were going, and nothing had changed their mind. Julia thought of all this in a split-second, then shifted her focus to the music. Slowly, like they'd practiced, a smile started to form on her face. If someone had been looking from the crowd she would have been beautiful. Her silky, navy blue hair, open flying slightly in the wind along with her teal/black dress which too was fluttering byt the edges. With her and Laasya looking almost identical, and with the snow falling down, it would have been alluring. Regal. Stunning. And the last move would make it complete. The song started hitting the notes and their moves started. First, they did an axel to the center, Laasya from the left, and Julia from the right, then they lifted their wands high and whispered "Caerulimillious", perfectly in sync, and waved their wands in a circular motion above their head. Much as she wanted to, Julia couldn't stop to see if it worked. If it would have blue sparks would have shot up, then showered all over them, making it match the landscape and song. But she didn't linger on that thought. They had a medal to win. After a millisecond, they continued skating, this time in circles. Julia moved in front of Laasya, getting ready, as the song hit the final notes. This was it. Laasya reached out and lifted Julia up, above her head, by the waist. As she went up, Julia stretched her legs out, just a little, remembering the correct technique. She was like that for about 2-3 seconds before Laasya put her down, then lifted her again through the same process. Julia closed her eyes, feeling the peace. Whether they won or not, she knew one thing was certain – I had fun. And that's the most important thing. Her grandfather had once taught her that. But she couldn't think of him. No. Not right now. So she smiled as Laasya put her down and the sound of rousing applause made its way to her ears. She tried her best, she had fun. And it was all that mattered to Julia as she skated of the ice, feeling content. |

@Lucy Hills
Basil felt himself grow nervous as he started to go for the lift. But it didn't happen. Lucy seemed out of it and didn't skate fast enough to get over towards Basil. Basil couldn't cast the spell and everything was falling apart. As he tried to get himself back together he started thinking about the solo's and they teams before. Basil continued skating as he tried to get back into the groove of things. Lucy would hopefully snap back into reality and do well on their next skill. The next one was a little tricky. He had been woring on it for a long time and they had gotten it a couple times but it was a little risky. Maybe they could get at least into the top 5 with this skill instead of dead last.
As the rest of the routine continued Basil and Lucy seemed to get back into the groove. They jumped and glided over the ice and as their final lift came Basil started to worry again. What if if didn't work-like the first thing they tried. He had been practicing the spell for a while and knew that he could do it. If only he could concentrate. Spinning towards Lucy his lifted his arms for the final thing-a triple twist lift. It was risky but if they could pull it off they could get so many points. A shower of snowflakes would hopefully be created as Basil murmered the snow flake creating charm. He just hoped Lucy was doing the same thing.

| XXXGeneviève looked down in surprise as Alphonse suddenly appeared and had returned her skates to her feet. The action quite unlike what she had expected of him after how closed off he had been in the past few months. But here he was, knelt down in the snow and dressed in something that matched her own skating outfit asking if she wanted him to step in and dance with her. Geneviève felt her lip wobble as she nodded and embraced him fully once he stood up.
They had taken to the ice and for nothing but a vague talk through- Alphonse had very quickly caught on with her choreography that she had initially written for her previous partner and herself. They had executed a spectacular waist hold and then two wonderfully cast snowflake creating charms. There was a beauty in the way that thye had synched up so easily and Geneviève couldnt' help the prideful smile that graced her face. The tear stains that had been there only moments ago could now be argued as part of the show itself.
She was so grateful that he had stepped up to be her partner for this. She wasn't sure she would have even made it to the ice if Alphonse had not turned up. Even with a very hastily put together choreography and outline of a routine- they were doing quite well. She hoped Alphonse could keep up with her. Skating came naturally to her just as dancing did and she didn't want to show the poor boy up, or lose this game. It wouldn't look good for either of them.Mundane Action: Double Lutz
