Minnie waited for something to happen after she played the notes, but nothing did. She was disappointed that nothing had happened, but quickly perked up when Kaitlyn told them she had found something! She smiled and nodded as she read the clue aloud. They were getting so close to cracking this, she could feel it! Even if she didn't have a big contribution to figuring everything out, it was still awesome to see them in action, getting clues faster and faster now.

Her attention went to Sere as she mused about the clue's lines. A sudden exclamation made her turn her head up to the ceiling, searching for whatever Sere had seen. It took her a few moments to see anything, but quickly she noticed a white object of the rafters, just waiting to be charmed down. Sere seemed to mean that she should charm it down with the levitating charm, which she would gladly do.

"Yeah, I see it! I can totally get that down!" Minnie enthusiastically replied, her excitement growing. Now that she was asked to do something, she couldn't wait to keep helping out in them escaping. She pointed her wand at the white thing and started to make the familiar movements for that spell. "Wingardium Levisa!"

Kaitlyn had passed along the information that she had collected, information that was vital to their success. As Sere and Minnie worked on the clue that Kaitlyn had spotted, the Slytherin doubled back, eyeing the gramophone once more. There was one more thing she had to do. Kaitlyn played the gramophone, and a stream of audio soon played, repeating the same word over and over again. Although it took a moment of listening, the meaning could be deciphered quite easily. The word, you ask? Well, the gramophone played the word “Seven.” This marked the students another digit closer to the combination lock, getting increasingly closer to escape.

Minnie and Sere, on the other hand, had managed to spot the next clue. Minnie raised her wand to charm it down from the rafters— how on earth did it even get up there? The ball planner for their room was 4’4— and the parchment floated down to land directly in the Hufflepuff girls’ hands. Upon reading the script scrawled across the page in dark ink, what seemed to be the final clue was finally within their grasp. It read as follows:

Now that all the digits have been found
Leaving this tavern is finally allowed
Retrace all your steps and you will see
That is where you will enter the key.

Looking towards the door once more will remind them of the combination lock, poised to open once the correct four digits had been aligned. But hold it— where was the fourth digit? The mug, the code, the gramophone… were they missing something? They in fact were not. Upon flipping the clue that they currently held in their hands over, a single number “1” was present on the back, simple yet powerful.

All that was left for them was to complete the lock to walk out of what was hopefully a fun game to escape the Twisted Taverns of Hogwarts.

The voices of Sere and Minnie fell faintly into the background as Kaitlyn’s fingertips dropped the needle on the record. She bounced on her toes in baited anticipation. The skirt of her dress swayed around her ankles. Her pigtails jumped happily against her neck. She saw plenty of records at St. Ann’s. Many of her favorite memories were dancing with her friends as sweet music played off a record player, their bodies pressed close together. Who could blame her for wishing for a beautiful fantasy serenade? A ballad filled with the enchanting notes of a bustling tavern, a cute female bard vocalizing in the distance, the gentle melody of the lute, and of course, the faint whispers of epic adventures from among the patrons!
Seven … Seven … Seven … Seven.
It took Kaitlyn a moment to hear the underwhelming sound of a voice repeating the same word. Over and over again. ‘What is this? Some goblin-infused gibberish? Is it the beginning of a quest? Perhaps to some merlin-forgetten cave … Oh….’ She frowned, recognizing the word. ‘Seven.’ Right, they were trying to leave. ‘Ah, the next digit is a seven … I guess I got a little carried away,’ she sighed, shaking her head, an embarrassed flush bloomed on her cheeks

Spinning on her sandals, Kaitlyn skipped back to Sere and Minnie. “Sere, Minnie. I have the third digit. A seven. So, if the order is indicative, we have two, three, and now seven,” she recalled, joining the other girls again. She gave them both a friendly smile, hoping they were successful what what they were doing.

After Minnie flicked her wand and casted the Levitation Charm, the white object floated off the rafters and moved down, landing in her grasp. @Minnie Duke This is indeed a paper, and something's written on it! Minnie caught the intention of the clue Kaitlyn had found around the gramophone very well. Such a good dynamic.

Speaking of Kaitlyn and the gramophone. Sere had been hearing the ballad song played from it for a while now, since Kaitlyn had put the needle on the right place. The Slytherin was approaching them and conveying the next digit: seven.

"What a great find!" Sere clapped her hands. Kaitlyn examined the gramophone deep in detail. @Kaitlyn Connor "Then we only need the last number," Sere remembered very well that the old brass lock required a four-digit combination, "Let's see..."

The girl peeked at the paper in Minnie's hand and read silently, then came to a conclusion: "Yup! One more number. Basically the clue says that we can escape from here after finding the las--" Her words were cut off because her eyes found something written on the back of the paper, "That's it!" Sere tilted her head so she could see the other side of the paper and found a "1" written there.

"We got all the numbers!" Sere said while pointing at the number one on the back of the paper, the last number they needed to escape from this tavern.

Minnie grinned as she brought the piece of paper floating gently down onto her hands. She had done it! As she was celebrating that, she heard the record player being played. She quickly spun around to see Kaitlyn looking disappointed as the record player told them another number, seven. She smiled at Kaitlyn, remembering the first time she had met her, in the ballroom. They had a fun time dancing together, which she was sure Kaitlyn was wishing she could do.

Music and dancing aside, they were so close to cracking the lock! They just needed one more number. "This is coming together so quickly! We're so close to getting out!" She exclaimed.

Sere had the idea to look at the paper in Minnie's hand, reading it and then flipping it to the back. She told everyone great news: she had found the last digit, one. So the combination was 2371. If she put that in and the lock clicked, they would be able to get out and win! She happily ran over to the lock, and put in the digits, making sure she was putting in the right numbers.

"Okay everyone, it's time to get out of here!" She announced, excited to have quickly solved everything. Then she quickly pulled on the lock, hoping it would let them out.

It was official: they had successfully escaped from the Taverns. As Minnie tugged on the lock, it gave way, leaving the door unlocked and unlatched, just waiting for a final push for it to give way into Hogwarts. They had solved a multitude of clues, all of which were interesting and provided unique challenges. There was no hag on duty, ready to curse them out on their way to leave, which allowed the players a certain amount of freedom.

The tavern still remained much in the same position that it was in prior to the arrival of the students; There was a small stage with a lute perched atop it and a now complete mug, engraved with the first digit to their lock. There were potions right next to the door, untouched by this group, in a small range of colors. A gramophone was seated on the bar, the needle having been disturbed since the beginning of this puzzle. And finally, there were quite a few slips of paper scattered around the tavern from the times that they were discovered and soon discarded upon discovery of a new clue.

This group had done rather well. The three that participated worked well together, and hadn’t wasted any time in uncovering the secrets that had been hidden away by the planners of this event. They should be applauded for their quick thinking and undeniably superior problem-solving skills. Although there is no official prize for solving this other than bragging rights, Sere, Kaitlyn, and Minnie should all be proud of themselves.
