2024/25, Stage 1 Ravenclaw vs Slytherin: Match 5

It was always satisfying to see a spell leave his wand, travel across a surmountable distance, and hit its intended target, but it was moments like this that reminded Pyxis of how little these things happened for him. He knew he was a good caster, but for a grand majority of his time practicing, his precision faltered. So Pyxis would only take a breath of celebration before focusing again, knowing that the duel was not anywhere near over and if he wanted to hit like that again, locking in was the only option. Elisa's twirling gave him some hope, but Draven being the continuous target of the Blindfolding Spell weighed on his mind.

Yeah, Draven supposed that checked out.

As soon as his fingers had slipped underneath the rags on his face, a second piece of cloth appeared, wrapping around just as tightly. At this rate, he would have spent more time blind than casting spells.

"Boo", he called out from underneath the rags, unable to glare. "Get some new material."

Cassian was feeling hurt. So far, two powerful jinxes had stunned him momentarily and he was definitely feeling it. Jess, he saw, had also been hurt by a bad back-fired casting. Not good. He strengthened his Calming Presence, hoping to push a clear and calm aura out to his teammates past his physical pain. Cassian had practiced his dueling techniques over the summer but he was realizing that he should’ve spent more time than he had. It would never hurt to have too much practice. Thankfully, Mylo was able to blindfold the Slytherin third year again, but just then Cassian felt his White River Monster spine wand soften under his grip. Not good; not good at all.

Mod Note: I forgot to subtract last round's Flipendo from Cassian's HP, hence the KO. Last mod say his health was 505 when it should have been 296 hp. Sorry for the confusion.

Lea was beginning to sense a pattern, a sympathetic glance towards Draven as he once again struggled against unknotting a blindfold before she turned her attention back to the others casting spells. Surely he'd be able to untie it this time around.

The first target was Cassian. Elisa would switch to Pyxis' strategy of a straight hit, two Flipendos aimed at the sole Ravenclaw. And unfortunately for him, luck would not be on his side as the two Slytherins coordinated their attacks to leave no space for escape. Each blow had sent the duellist wavering, but now he tipped fully. It would only moments before his final collapse, but not before he managed a spell of his own along with the rest of the Ravenclaws.

With his wand a little more unresponsive at the moment, Cassian seemed to win its favor back with some fire roaring towards Draven. There was no chance to escape when the world went black, only able to feel the heat scorch his skin and the hold of a fire struggling for a continued life. Jessamine followed a similar strategy as the Slytherins with her own Knockback Jinx, careful not to blow up the magic in her face this time. Unfortunately it seemed the pain had stolen much of her focus, the spell successful but shooting off in a direction that Draven managed to wander away from before it hit. As for Mylo, they would not be getting new material as they trained their wand to blindfold him once more. The spell flew shakily but there also wasn't much Draven could do as yet again the blindfold fell off only to be replaced by a second. But he'd at least be able to see his team's success for a moment as Cassian succumbed to the hits and fell to the ground.

"STOP!" Lea stepped forward, motioning towards others from the sidelines to take care of Cassian, scooping him up to bring him to the Hospital Wing. She kept a careful eye on them, especially the blindfold, to make sure they didn't take the extra few moments for their advantage before stepping back to her moderation spot. "All good? And- CONTINUE!"

This was going bad. Cassian had just been knocked out after having put Draven on fire. A sight that, although Mylo knew he'd be fine, he didn't like seeing as they associated fire with severe injuries. But they couldn't afford to be distracted at this point, as they might end up like Cassian and Mylo didn't like the thought of that.

So although he didn't have too much hope left to win they still do their best to make it as even as possible. Hoping that even if they did get hit, that it wouldn't be to bad.

Just as he'd managed to untangle the second blindfold, Draven found himself facing a....you guessed it, folks! A third blindfold. Heaving a sigh, Draven made a mental note to buy some doxies and dump them in Mylo's closet.

Except- why did it smell like smoke? Draven made a face as the very distinctive smell of charred clothing and burning hair made its way to his nose.

Then the heat.

Horrid flames enveloped Draven, licking up his arms, catching on his clothes. They jumped from article to article, sticking to his skin like parchment paper.

Panic. Pure, raw, blinding panic exploded behind Draven's eyes, the world dark, pain biting into him from all sides. His flesh cried out, the sizzle and crack of the flames sending his mind spinning.

The muggles had a rhyme for this. For-

For flames. For fire.

Stop. The first step was stop he knew that much. Stop. Don't freak out.

T'was a bit late for that.

Paranoid and a glass half-empty kind of guy, Pyxis could only see the negatives happening for the Slytherin team. His initial miss and Draven being targeted by Mylo's never-ending blindfolds were on the forefront of his mind and it took Cassian collapsing for him to realize that things weren't as bad as they seemed. The Ravenclaws were one down and Jessamine was having terrible luck with her wand. The only thing that could make this better — other than a straight win — was an end to the Obscuro barrage. Draven must have been having a terrible time, especially now that he was also on fire. At least the older snake's legs had some sense in them, dodging one of the opposing team's spells.

For this round, Elisa was well prepared. She aimed her wand straight at Cassian, just like Pyxis, and together they shouted, "Flipendo!". Both spells successfully hit their target, and Elisa's heart leapt, proud of her team. Until she saw Cassian crumple to the ground. This time, her heart skipped a beat. The boy lay there, motionless, in a heap, a dark mass. She almost ran to him, but stopped herself just as she realised that this was a duel, and in duels people... She thought better not to think further about it, and concentrated on the current situation. She hadn't been hit yet- which was really very fortunate.
