The start of the school year is occasionally tough to get used to, especially for newbies to the wizarding world. Even almost two months in, fledgling first years and the rare returning student faced dilemmas that stemmed from being thrown headfirst into classes and homework. As such, those wixes may have been ecstatic upon learning the final dates for Stage 1 of the Hogwarts Duelling Tournament. With fire in their veins and new spells in their brains, the grand majority of the student body made their way to the Duelling Club for the weekend, prepared to eat, breathe, and sleep in the presence of spell slinging.

Whether it was to let off some steam after suffering under stacks of essays or the need to keep up with their friends and enemies on the piste, crowds of students blew past the club door and filled the entire room. Not an empty seat on the stands was available and those who couldn’t secure relief for their poor legs would be content to perch vertically, taking in the action from a more grounded view. The two pistes extended before the stands, waiting to host a myriad of talented duellists over the next two days. The sight, familiar to most and new to some, was enough to inspire entrants to practice their spellcasting even harder as one day, they could make it onto their house duelling team. But for today, all they could do was simply watch the best of the best duke it out.

MATCH 3: Gryffindor Vs Hufflepuff
Damion had just dueled on the previous day and was spending his Sunday watching the duel between his ex's house and his current boyfriend's house, with Kim against Hades. He was hoping and gonna root for Hades to win the match. He was not sure how this had happened but anyways it had happened so here he was like always rooting his boyfriend on.

"Come on Babycakes!" He said clapping and cheering him on already. He could see Hades had made his way to the dueling stage and his eyes shone with excitement and his heart fluttered. He was really in love with Hades. Damion just wished that no one who could use anything against him was there while he cheered his Babycakes on.

Damion's eyes were fixed on his Hades and nothing else mattered. He wanted to be there to save his babycakes if needed. He didn't want anyone to hurt him at all. But he knew that in a duel, spells would hit Hades if they were cast at him or towards him. Sometimes, he wished that there was something he could do about it but alas there wasn't anything that he could do; so he would just sit there and see the match.

"Treecko, come on. It's gonna start soon!"

How the day's event slipped his mind, Aodhan was not exactly sure. He was positive that he marked it down, stuck post-it notes within the mess he called a brain, set preemptive alarms and rehearsed the date. Yet when the time came, he was stuck in a tee shirt and boxers, snuggled in bed while doing last minute reading for his Charms class. Thank goodness for his loud dormmates reminding him of the dueling matches, and for his Slytherin friend's willingness to accompany him.

Although a big part of him expected it, the youth could not help but groan in annoyance at the lack of open seats. He really, really did not feel like standing so early in the morning, because anything before noon could be seen as early. So, he chose a spot with a decent view of the match, and simply moved the belongings in those seats elsewhere. If it came back to bite him, well, that was a case for future Aodhan to deal with.

He plopped himself down into one and patted the other, trying to signal Gekko over. Someway, somehow, she was actually smaller than him. That meant, even though he could see well, he was unsure if the same could apply to her. And that meant there was a chance they would have to find a brand new position to be in. Ugh, problem after problem today. The boy focused his gaze ahead for the moment, hoping the match would do well to redirect his thoughts.

And redirect it did.

Pathetically, his jaw went slack as a certain dark haired teen entered his vision, as if he didn't cross paths with the older boy regularly in their dorms. Even with the frequency, it did nothing to stop the way his abdomen flipped, and did nothing to ease the sudden quickening of his heart. Mind you, both things sucked. Aodhan still had no idea why this kept happening. Was he allergic to Kim? That didn't even make sense. What could possibly make him allergic to another person?

With a sigh, he tried ignoring his physical ailments to the best of his ability, already tired of pondering the issue and failing to reach an easy answer. However, it'd be a waste not to channel all this nervous energy, so—

"Beat them up, Kim! With a wham, and a boom! They got nothing on you!" he exclaimed while flailing his arms in accordance to his sound effects. By the time he relaxed, he was already turning his head to face Gekko once again.

"Hey, do you have anything to, uh, take notes with?" he questioned, realizing it could be useful to jot down any new spells they happened to witness.

───── Gekko always started her mornings bright and early, rising with the sun was as easy as breathing. The awakenings weren't graceful, do not be mistaken. She was just a light sleeper and the first rays of sunlight always seemed to bother her awake. The girl was up as soon as the light hit her eyes, making her jolt awake, but there was nothing beautiful about her wake up ritual. Thus, when the light filtered through her bed's canopy, Gekko was up and going. Rolling out of bed with a grunt and still tangled in the sheets the young girl was only met with a few groans of annoyance from her bunk mates, who were more or less accustomed to the weird wake up ritual. After a few minutes she was untangled and getting a move on with starting her day.

It was an uneventful Sunday, having spent most of the weekday studying for her classes. Studying was how she unwound, even if Gekko really preferred hanging out with other people. A small tug of muscles at her lips pulled her lips into a barely there pout, glancing wearily at the dorm room door that led to the common room. The young witch initially wanted to see if anyone in the Slytherin common room wanted to perhaps hang out with her, but they either totally ignored her or were put off by her blank facial expression. It made Gekko purse her lips slightly, to hide her annoyance, but she otherwise brushed it off and retreated back to her bed and it's comforting canopy for private studying.

So imagine the biracial girl's surprise, and to her joy, when someone came knocking at door about a certain Gryffindor looking for her. A smile actually twitched on her face as she practically ran out of her bed and to the common room entranceway.

That's how Gekko found herself putting a stop to her Sunday studies and instead attending her very first dueling match with Aodhan. It was magical, which of course it was it was magic, but for Gekko it felt like a breath of fresh air, almost enough for her to miss the new nickname. The half blood girl decided to file it away for later, right now the beauty of magic held her attention. She watched the matches with pure awe twinkling in the black depths of her eyes, almost missing her ginger friend signaling her over.

A shiver passed through her bones from the October chill in the air, making her hold her robes close to her body as she hurried over. She sat down much more gracefully than her friend with amusement clear in her gaze. Aodhan was always excitable, but now it seemed even more doubled than before. Which seemed impossible before, but clearly there was layers to his hamster energy. And it seemed to prove Gekko's thought correct as she watched the orange ball of energy start to loudly cheer with wide eyes. A smile twitched on her lips, just barely there and she had to bite back a laugh. She followed his gaze to a particular older boy, whom she figured must be this "Kim". The girl stood up with a sparkle in her eyes, her eyes of awe too focused on the match before to notice or hear Aodhan's question. If he was going to cheer for his friend, then she would join him and hope for their hard earned win.

"Kick their arse, Kim! Aim for the shins!" Despite her small stature and usually quiet voice, Gekko's yelling boomed in a way that didn't seem to fit her body. She had cupped her hands around her mouth, trying to make sure her words were heard loud and clear. She turned towards Aodhan with a barely there grin on her lips, the muscles in her face twitching slightly. "Do you think your friend heard us?" She whispered with a chuckle, slightly tilting her head in a questioning way.

MATCH 3: Gryffindor Vs Hufflepuff (ROUND 1)
Damion was watching eagerly as he saw the first round starting. He was glad that the Gryffindor team was not focusing on his Hades for now. Though he knew that would happen eventually and as much as he wanted to be there to protect his Hades from the spells he knew he couldn't just jump into the active Duel. He just hoped that Hades would remain standing till the end. He didn't want his Babycakes to be attacked. He was hoping that the spell that Hades had thrown at Kim would hit Kim and he sighed loudly as the spell missed the target.

"You can do it Babycakes!!" Damion encouraged Hades. He didn't want Hades to feel that he was not doing well. Sometimes the spell didn't hit the target and that's what had happened. He was sure that Hades' next spell would hit the target. He was going to be there for his Hades and support him. He was not going to leave the Duelling club in midst of the Duel. Espeically one where his boyfriend Hades was duelling. He wanted to be there to see what happens in the duel. His eyes were fixed on Hades and he was hoping that Hades would see him there and know that he was not alone and his boyfriend was there like always cheering him on.

"Huh? Oh, yeah, probably. Especially you. Unless you think I should really try screaming. That would end up distracting him though, wouldn't it?" he moved the conversation along, not batting an eye at how his question went unanswered. It wasn't that important anyhow, especially when such a thing could take away from experiencing the event. And what an event it was.

Things in the main dueling area had started off fast, with an intensity Aodhan was not accustomed to. Perhaps if it were a video game, or a television show, he'd be unfazed. But this was real, tangible, physical. All the duelists moved with speed and grace he only ever dreamed of, a vision of his own excellency given physical form. He hoped, oh he hoped, that he could be like them someday, for having his dreams presented before him filled the boy with excitement. It was as if a piece of himself was ripped away and placed right there with the contestants. Apprehension, adrenaline, awe...

They weren't just skilled, either, for he noticed people on both teams certainly tanking a blow or two. And ouch, his dormmate was one of them. It made the youth grimace. However, that quickly melted away into respect. Hurt, yet still standing, just as they were expected to if they wished to call themselves victors.

Dueling. So, this was what Kim did for sport? Fight against other wizards, tooth and nail? It contrasted with how the older boy was perceived in his mind, but that was not a bad thing. Not at all. Somehow, as a picture of black hair and cerulean irises filled his imagination, he almost felt wonderstruck.

Gentle. Blue eyes. Formidable. Resilient. Huh. Yet he also felt sick. Sick? He should visit the nurse. No, but he was also giddy. So much energy. He felt sick. He should ask—

"Blue is a nice color," he blurted without thinking, sounding a tad out of it before he instantly continued, "Hey, Treecko, do you think we could get into dueling eventually?"

It was such a pleasant thought, one that filled his chest with warmth and eased his stomach, despite how far away the possibility was. Besides, he figured Gekko carried at least some level of intrigue if she was so willing to join him. Impassive as she seemed, he knew that's all it was: an appearance. A look. An all-encompassing sense of apathy, only if you never bothered to discover her core. And Gekko's core, in Aodhan's not so humble opinion, held someone that actually knew the definition of fun.

"Obviously we'd be on different teams, but that doesn't forbid practicing together, right? I'm sure we'd get soooo good that we could only duel each other. Everyone else would be too scared to try."

How he spoke with such confidence was truly anyone's guess.

───── Gekko only hummed in response, her attention focused almost entirely on the dueling students. It would be distracted, that was true without saying, but she was simply matching his energy. No matter, this duel really was captivating. There was something mystical about the whole ordeal, how each flick of their wands felt like a dance. The constant back and forth of spells had the young girl hypnotized, her eyes glancing back and forth over the field with rapt attention.

She was so deeply engaged in the dueling match that she almost missed Aodhan's words, her head snapping over to the boy. It was the only way she was going to be able to actually focus on him speaking, without disengaging half the things he said. She could not focus on two things at once, unfortunately. However, that didn't stop the Slytherin girl from giving the ginger a weird look, the words completely unrelated to the current narrative. "Blue is okay, green is better." Gekko mumbled softly as she gave the boy another side eye when he wasn't looking. He looked out of it, and the question was out of the blue too, did he hit his head too hard when she wasn't looking?

The young witch would have commented on it had Aodhan not brought up the idea of them getting into dueling. That was much more interested and snapped her attention to him intently, and she quickly sat back down on the bench to have the conversation properly. "I'm not sure, honestly, I never thought about it. This is my first time seeing it, I've only heard classmates talking about it. But, seeing them on the field right now, all in this wonderful dance of color and light, fueled by grace and determination...it makes me wonder." Her words were slightly rushed out, looking back over the field with awe in her eyes, the obsidian orbs sparkling with interest. "Of course, dueling together also sounds fun, a rivalry between us would be unmatched. But, we both know I'd only let you sometimes win, so you don't give up. I'd clearly be the superior dueler." Despite the usual coolness of her tone, there was a hint of confidence in Gekko's voice, a slight smirk tugging at her lips.

He was more than prepared to tease Gekko for her strangely poetic wording of the match going on. Not because she was incorrect for it—no, not at all. But that someone like her, who took up saying words like "goat," honestly looked funny using a more serious vocabulary again. She just had to go and ruin it, though, with her insistence of somehow being the better dueler.

While Aodhan had no doubts regarding her potential, there was still a limit. A limit which would manifest as a skill level undeniably below his own. This is where she would cap at, due to the mere fact that he was freakin' awesome. Way too awesome to not be among the best of the best when it came to flinging spells and dodging like his life depended on it. Besides, the sport looked no different to dodgeball, depending on the perspective you took.

The spells would count as the dodgeballs, and your own durability would suffice instead of getting hit once and being eliminated. So yes, dodgeball. Aodhan was good at dodgeball... his minimal arm strength be damned.

Not long after Gekko finished provoking him—this tiny, evil witch was always provoking him—did more commotion stem from the main arena. Seeing an opportunity, the youth pointed directly at one of the contestants that got struck with a knockback spell. Flipendo or something, right? He could remember vague mentions of it elsewhere, maybe from his chatty classmates.

"You'd end up just like that guy if you dueled me. Absolutely rocked, so you better watch yourself," he spoke with a cheeky little smile that showed a bit of his fangs, and the playful challenge was clear in his eyes, "Actually! I could probably send you flying even further. Maybe all the way to another dimension because that's how powerful I'd become, like a wizard god. And you can't just beat a wizard god."

Cheering on @Scout Fu-Hai - Afternoon Slot - Match 8 - 12.30 - 1.30
Open to possible interactions!
After finally healing up enough to get back on her feet, Emily went to do the next best thing... Go back to the duelling arena.

Not to duel, oh no. She had more than enough excitement after taking on three opponents all by herself when one of her teammates got knocked out and the other stood around with his head with the fairies. Despite the loss, Emily was bloody chuffed with herself for her efforts. For a first match, that was brilliant. It still hurt like hell though... And what better way to forget the absolute shamble of a duel and the pain she sustained with it than turning up to support her best buddy.

She made herself comfortable with the rest of the spectators. With keen eyes she scanned the arena until... Aha!

"Scoutie!!! Woo!"

She watched as her best friend took to the stage with her fellow teammates. Emily could tell Scout would be looking for her amidst the crowd. Wherever Scout went, Emily would follow and vice versa. So when their eyes finally met Emily had the biggest, cheesiest grin as she cheered her on.

Once the match started, Emily could already tell Scout was better than her. Experience was partially the culprit but Scout was very... Vocal on the field. Communication was severely lacking during Emily's match whereas Scout was able to rally her team together like a well oiled machine.

Of course, duelling was no exception to Scout's temper. Emily chuckled once or twice where she could see Scout's cheeks puff out of frustration where a spell failed or someone dodged her.

"You still got this, Scoutie!" she cheered.

Already Emily was picking up a few pointers for next time. Communication, energy, assistance...

Emily scoffed when thinking about the disaster of a match she had yesterday. Scout and her team put Emily and hers to shame. Big time.
