2023/24, Stage 1 Slytherin vs Ravenclaw: Match 4

Behaving during a duel is such a pain. At the very least, he could distract himself with some witty banter. But nooooo- now he has to feel the pain of a good flipendo. Brushing bitts of his shirt as an attempt to look unfazed. At the same time, needing to not look like an idiot who missed a spell so horrendously. He didn’t even want to look in Cazares’s direction. Not eager to see whatever cold stare she's going to send their way. Seemed like it was a good call to get that protego but they weren’t in the best situation either way. Their earlier advantage now dissipated, leaving them to re-think on their next move.

Opeila went too quickly. Still partly trying to find her feet again after being blindfolded, she cast not one but two spells in the vague direction of the two Ravenclaws, hoping to still get a bit of a surprise moment, as she had been blindfolded just a few moments ago.
Unsuccessfully. Her two classmates dodged the blindfolds and instead hit Hanako with a spell.

Damion didn't have good luck this round. His spell had not hit the intended target. He groaned a little disappointedly. "Flipendo" Damion said looking at Ruby. He was not happy about it. But well he still kept his spirits high. He didn't want to be disappointed with the failed attempt. He was hoping for the best for the next round.

"Flipendo!"

In an instant the spell flashed forth from the tip of his cherry wood wand, splitting itself into two colored 'streams'. Both flew true towards their targets but a quick shield charm from the older student deflected one of those streams back at him. Worse, he had two additional spells heading his way.

With some quick movements that surprised even him, the Ravenclaw evaded the incoming attacks and was able to watch with some satisfaction as at least one of his spells hit their mark. His heart was pounding but all he felt was euphoria. Now this was podracing duelling!

Beaming a pearly white smile at his opponents, Cassius prepared himself for their next moves. The heat again was turning up.

Since she had been targeted in the previous wave of spells and was feeling sore because of it, Ruby quickly threw up a shield—and not a moment too soon, because two spells hit it a second later, one dissipating and the other bouncing back at its caster, much to her satisfaction. Unfortunately, though, the deflected spell didn’t hit the opponent. Neither did her teammates’ spells—instead, Hanako managed to get injured. She sighed, a half-hearted glare briefly directed at the younger Slytherins. Useless.

NB: As there's no Impaired Hit description list in the spell (oversight), by my discretion I made the similar effect to others (halved damage and halved effect but not duration).

A bit better, yeah. This time, the spell were shot and landed.

Ruby split a Flipendo towards the Ravenclaws, but only bird was shot — Cassius. That was quite a painful Flipendo that almost sent him flying.

Damion started with another wetting spell, but this time he barely hit, with water getting into only one of Ruby's eyes.

Hanako threw a Flipendo towards Damion, but unfortunately missed. But it was probably to diverge his attention, as Opeila shot a very bright Flipendo, seemingly very powerful, towards Damion and hit right in the head. Damion was sent flying a metre back and knocked down. It would take him a while to get up.

Cassius did a nice job of splitting Ventus towards Ruby and Hanako, hitting both and leaving them a little bit disoriented. Ruby was not looking good at all. Meenauh saddened a bit, but a duel was a duel. They were in worse situations together and they got out of them in good health.

Ravenclaws always had a way of pissing him off. Mainly from how he had yet to have a win over them in a duel. But my god- it was a good thing he didn’t make it a tendency to punch whatever made him mad. They were getting far too cocky being unharmed for a few rounds while his sides have been on the consistent verge of being ko-ed. In particular, Cassius looked very punchable. Especially with that bright smile he gave them right before the round started. Goddamit- giving cocky smiles to opponents was his job!

He was in disbelief really, annoyed that even despite that he was far from the mood to do any smiling. He might have let out a mocking jest or two this round if only a gust of the wind spell didn’t hit him. He wasn’t the best evader evidently. Was that really necessary? He let out a groan. Well at least Winters did something right. Although even the sound of her voice makes him want to roll his eyes, there was a reason why she held more than a few wins in dueling. As much as he hated to admit that.

Damion was not lucky this round. He had been hit with a perfectly cast Flipendo by Opeila. But luckily before he fell down, knocked down, he was able to cast a not so good spell at Ruby. He pointed his wand at his target and said "Aqua Eructo" Damion had sorta been lucky not to be hot by another spell that was targeted at him.

"Ventus!"

Sometimes you just had to hit hard when the odds were against you. That was a lesson the Ravenclaw fifth year learned early during his studies at the wizarding school. It had been the prevailing thought the duration of the duel having lost his teammate, Eun-ji, early in the match. However, he was beginning to feel the heightened pace impact him. Spreading a spell was difficult and the concentration required to continuously do it was wearing him down. At least, that was his reasoning for why he was unable to evade Ruby's knockback jinx.

Now that did hurt. "Nice hit," he managed to say through a groan. It was unfortunate that his teammate had been knocked down by a separate knockback jinx but it could have been worse. There was still a fight to be had and like a notable Greek hero of old, he was ready to go the distance.

Still cursing under her breath over the missed spells, Opeila aimed again. Pride showed on her face when she managed another flawless spell and this time threw one of the Ravenclaws off of his feet. Her spell had been strong, surely he would need a moment or two to get back to his feet. Precious moments that should not go to waste.
