Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
ReducioThe past year had been a fever dream for the young muggleborn, filled with a confusing mixture of perfect moments and horrible ones. He had learned more about who he was in one year of Hogwarts than he had in his entire life thus far, but despite all of the lessons he had learned, there was one thing he was certain of. If he wished to prove all of the intolerant wizards of the world wrong he would have to be better and the only way he could was to work twice as hard.
Having enlisted the help of his surrogate Slytherin brother Tristan Theramin at the end of the year they had made an agreement that he would send him all the material he could to help Matthew get ahead. Tristan understood, being a pureblood, the way that the world was designed and he shared in the pain of unfairness the world held in store for the boy and thus was only too glad to help him resolve it. That belief only sparked his indignation and drive to succeed further as he prepared for a crash course summer in all things magical. The young brunette was done being scared he would learn to defend himself so that no one could hurt him again.
Matthew had no intention of hiding his muggleborn heritage either, a few times in the year he had done so and always regretted it but upon meeting his mentor his world had changed. Tristan proved just how powerful the union of muggle and magical was and sparked ideas within him of the possibility of what a united world was capable of. Thinking, however, wouldn't be enough, no he had to make action so he consumed every text the senior sent, practiced spell incantations and wand movements though of course not at the same time as the looming threat of the trace and expulsion haunted his dreams.
It was no secret that he had started last year disadvantaged having come from no knowledge of the magical world and yet he had, despite all odds, thrived in his classes. This year he was in a different ball game, it was his time to truly prove what he and all muggleborn's were capable of so that one day he could make a real change and no one would again suffer like he had his first year. Defence Against the Dark Arts was beyond a shadow of a doubt his favourite subject and, more so than that it was an invaluable resource so his focus became pinpoint. Matthew poured hours of study into spell work, until he was so deep in research he was reading spells of level that advanced far beyond the realms of second year. It filled him with a unique passion to prove himself not only capable of understanding the advanced texts but he was convinced that once he returned to Hogwarts he would be able to master them.
To many the summer would have seen dreadfully boring, while others went out and enjoyed the burning sun's warmth and made use of the little positive weather the country was capable of he curled over his desk, and in his bed. Matthew spent a summer buried in books but it never worried his parents, he had always been a fanatic for reading and so they saw very little difference from his usual behaviour. Of course, they were not aware of the full extent of his mistreatment at the school, for fear that they would not wish for him to return if they knew he had kept it hidden. They did know enough to support his ambition though and regularly helped participate in quizzes he had designed to test his knowledge despite they themselves being utterly perplexed by the words that now found a common place in his vocabulary.
As summer drew to a close and he had exhausted the many texts, tomes and personal letters of encouragement and advice Tristan had provided he felt as ready as he ever could be. Second year may only just be beginning but he was prepared for everything it had to throw at him and more. Never again would he feel powerless or less than for he wasn't either. The magical world chose him and he was not about to forget it.
Tristan mentoring Matthew was approved by his author via Owls and is a continuation of their relationship development from their thread Relfections of the Light

Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Lovely Creature
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
ReducioCorinne Fitzroy had always been beautiful. Her stunning voice and looks were the reason she had gained a massive following so quickly, Arthur's photography having helped with that. The Fitzroys were a family that put a lot of focus on beauty, and Corinne had always carried herself with a grace that made her seem nearly otherworldly. So, when Juliette was born only 3 minutes after her twin sister, it was already clear to her parents who took after who. She was basically a mini version of her mother, even as a baby. Family and friends alike pointed it out, saying how Juliette was going to grow up to be the spitting image of her mother: it seemed almost inevitable.
Each year this seemed more likely, their similarities becoming more and more prominent. The older she got, the more it became noticeable that she took after her mother in not just looks, but also grace. People would glance at her for a split second longer than usual, taking note of her appearance and the way she presented herself. Always graceful and poised, learnt from her aristocratic upbringing but also as a natural instinct. "What a beautiful little girl," people would always say, smiling at her, and Juliette would always smile back because she loved her mother. She was happy that they were so similar.
Until she wasn't. Until her mother left them, and Juliette herself was just a constant reminder of the woman that cared more about fame than her own children. Every time she looked in the mirror, she saw Corinne, and she hated it. But that didn't stop others from noticing her. During her time at boarding school she would catch the attention of her peers more than usual; boys would compliment her, giving her little gifts and handing her notes of silly love confessions that she never took seriously, and girls would be jealous of her, wondering why she got the attention of their crush and they didn't. It annoyed her sometimes, because she didn't want to be noticed, especially when she wasn't trying to be, but that didn't stop the glances and stares from her classmates.
And yet, despite the hatred and resentment she felt towards her mother, Juliette still cared about how she looked. Especially entering her first year at Hogwarts, she wanted to make a good impression on the others in her year and would go the extra mile just to make sure she looked presentable. Plus, at least she was not entirely her mother. She may have gained her mother's beautiful looks, but her personality was more similar to her father, taking after him in the calculated and observant way she looks at the world, and of course, she was still herself after all.
Still, nobody can deny that there has always been something different about Juliette. She is what some may call a lovely creature.

Ayumi has always been pushing hard in her studies. Perhaps not as diligent as her parents hope that she is, but as close as possible. Outside of the basic tutoring sessions, the girl spent most of her free time on the spell-books that her parents would purchase for her, pouring all her energy into perfecting each spell.
Even though she does not have a wand for most of her life so far, she would practise with a stick, a particularly thick type of quills, or other household items she can find around her. Ayumi's parents are both Aurors, so it is easy to link that to the girl's profound interest in the Defence Against the Dark Arts. Her family's library is never short of this type of spell-books, fortunately, and her parents, contented that their child might follow after their footsteps, are more than happy to provide assistance, helping Ayumi with the pronounciations, the wand movements, and sometimes even demonstrating a few safer spells under controlled environments.
Just to help Ayumi learn, of course.
In fact, they would take some time out of their schedule in the weekends to teach Ayumi some of the harder spells, and although the girl does not always understand what they are saying - and to be honest, she rarely asks for clarifications - her thirst for more Defence Against the Dark Arts knowledge is clear.
When she finally receives her Hogwarts letter, the first thing she does is to hurry her parents to Diagon Alley - not to buy her the books, the clothes, or the other materials, but to obtain her very own wand.
This is one of the few times her parents cave into her requests, and so her father accompanies her to the Ollivanders shop in Diagon Alley. She does not take long to find the perfect wand - or, as they say, for the wand to find her - and so the father and daughter returns home. Ayumi's eyes twinkle the moment they step into the Faeri House, and the girl, despite knowing that she can't really cast any spells yet, rushes into her room to get her notebook, where she wrote down all her favourite spells.
From that day onwards, she is often found waving her wand around while thinking hard about the incantations, but never daring to actually cast the spell because of the underage law for magic use. Her parents would frequently, when they have the time to do so, instruct her on the more precise wand strokes, gripping her hand to show her how the movements are done.
She enjoys all these lessons, and by the time September creeps up on her, Ayumi is certain that she knows a lot of Defence Against the Dark Arts spells. That is why when she enters the doors (gates?) of Hogwarts, she knows that she is more than ready to impress her peers and make her parents proud.

Describe why this fits your character (not why they would want it:
ReducioEugenia was a very odd Child. Born in Greece, moving to the Uk at the age of 4 and being raised in a house at one of London’s wizarding neighbourhoods.Everyone just believed she was a typical English kid. Yet, living in Greece during those first 4 years had a giant impact on her. It didn’t only make her know two languages fluently. It impacted her other abilities too.
Back in Greece, Eugenia used to play every day in her parents’ garden. Many of their friends would bring their children over too, regardless of whether they had shown they could do magic or not. They often played normal children’s games, ones that muggle kids played too. One of their favourites was tag.
The years eventually passed. They moved. At the UK, she played tag too with some of their neighbour’s children, all of them young witches and wizards craving for some fun.
For some reason, she seemed to be very good at tag. She wasn’t the fastest of the bunch, being a girl of average height with legs of average length and having no will to run constantly, but she often won the game. Well, that was a phenomenon that occurred as the years passed. Back at Greece, she rarely ever won.
Especially in the beginning.
Like all other children, she used to frequently bump into others. Often, the chaser. Seeing other kids win, being the competitive kid that she was, she wanted to practice and win.
Her strategy was not hiding, but sitting in a single area. When the chaser came her way, she would try to either run and avoid them or hide just at the right moment and escape. She didn’t have to walk into the danger or hide from it. She had learnt to evade it. At all costs.
It wasn’t just bumping and the chaser she could avoid. When in a sticky situation, perhaps a fight between two kids, she could avoid their rogue punches, kicks, or rocks that they would throw with a relative ease. When others were punished for mischief, she avoided being seen or caught by the adults. She had learnt to evade everything that came her way, to not put herself or others in danger.
Soon enough, Eugenia turned Eleven years old and arrived at Hogwarts. In class, spells would often go rogue. She’d always just evade them. There was no instance for her getting hit and she always wriggled out of trouble. She didn’t break a single rule during her first year. She didn’t get involved in a single prank either, no spell or object could hit her.
In her second year, Eugenia applied to become Hufflepuff’s third first-string chaser. And she got her position. Evasion would have to become one of her fortés even now, that she was in the air. And she mastered it. In the few times she trained, no bludger managed to hit her and when she would almost collide with teammates, she always managed to do some elegant manoeuvre and escape the trouble.
Evasion was in her veins, in the blood that flowed through her blood, blood that flowed both on ground and in the air. She had learnt to evade anything. Fancy manoeuvres were additional tricks up her sleeve when trying to avoid getting hit. And she seemed to always perform them right.

Making the Quidditch team, even as the second-string player, was a huge accomplishment for Dani. She enjoyed watching the professionals play the adrenaline-rushing game, but she liked playing it even more. Her brother had been the first one to help introduce her to the sport, and her grandparents supported her love. She was incredibly thankful for the encouragement and support of her family, glad that they wanted her to succeed at the things she liked.
Following her acceptance onto the team as a second-string player, Danielle started putting in the work. She trained hard at practice. When she didn't have homework, or she wasn't with friends, she trained out on the pitch at school. If she couldn't get out, she worked on the small things, such as tossing a quaffle-sized object around, catching random objects, and especially her reaction time. If Dani ever had to go in to replace a player, she wanted to make sure she'd play well and to play well. She had to be quick.
If she saw a friend reaching for a specific object, Danielle would attempt to grab it before them. Oftentimes, when she attempted it, it would leave them laughing like maniacs or slightly annoyed, especially when she pulled it out at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She'd snatch up the piece of bacon that her friend was going to eat next, grasp the handle of the jug of pumpkin juice first, and even steal sandwiches out of their hands. Most of the time, the food would be returned.
When she went to her grandparent's house when school ended, Danielle continued working on her swiftness and quick reactions, even dragging her brother and sister in to help her train with the promise of bragging rights and some candy or money for the winner. Danielle would grab an object, ball-shaped, and have Charlotte place it in between herself and Blaise, (or Charlotte. Whoever had agreed). Two of the siblings (whoever was playing with Dani) would turn their backs to the object and take a step away and unexpectedly, the other sibling (most of the time, Charlotte) would say go. Whoever could turn around and grab the object faster, won. Danielle personally liked this game the most.
Another game she played (and dragged her siblings or friends into) was a game of keep away or monkey in the middle. Danielle would volunteer to start in the middle or be the one who had to get the object or ball. She'd work on snatching the object out of the air, getting to it first, and other technical things that could be applied to the game of Quidditch.
Danielle worked hard, her goals and mind clear, ready to work for what she wanted. After all, the only way to get better is to practice. And practice makes perfect.

Archer, that quiet boy from the middle-of-nowhere mountains, had always been an agile lad. He had always had a slender frame and found a catlike nimbleness in his nature and blood. Child of an adventurer, he had been taught from a young age on how to protect himself. It was a fact to accept that in certain occasions, defense worked better than offense, especially faced with the power of nature. Good reflexes and the ability to sense danger could save someone's life. One such time when this trait was shown was during a hike with is mother. Unbeknowst to both of them at the time, one of the trees hanging off the side of the mountain in front of the duo was unstable. While his mother was checking her pack for supplies, Archer was quick to notice a suspicious creaking in the trunk and the traits of an old branch. Getting out of the way in a roll and shouting for his mother to do the same, the two managed to do so just before the branch crashed down onto the ground.
On the other side of the coin, Archer had always been a reserved child who would really rather go on defensive than offensive. As he entered Hogwarts and was exposed to duelling, instead of going spell to spell in attacks, he would first utilise protective spells or simply dodging. Protecting oneself by not taking damage was just an important part in a duel as causing that damage. During practices, Archer would always take care to dodge a spell if he could. Always the strategist, he would try to determine his opponent's strategies and how he might sidestep them. Mentally taking notes from each of his rival's move, Archer would remember each situation and how to evade them as if it was chess. Steps were similar to dancing, a step to the side, a jump backwards, before stepping to the front once more. These were like rules, simple, coherent to follow. It got him unscathed out of duelling practice.
Now thirteen and spindly, Archer's movements were as fast as ever. Having not had his growth spurt yet, ducking and dodging were easy enough tasks. As his own accuracy improved, so did his understanding of the spell caster. It was easy to use his knowledge against himself from there. Like anything else, mastering the art of evasion was simply learning what the opposer is planning to do.

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
ReducioIt started when she was eight. Kiana had never been a particularly naughty or sneaky child, and never caused her parents any trouble. She was, in fact, the model child. All parents wanted a kid like her. But it was at this lovely, lucky age of eight that she discovered the ultimate weapon for any kid her age. Stealth.
For most kids, being able to sneak into the kitchen after dinner and snag an extra cookie was a privilege. A magical power, almost, because most of the time they got caught. But for Kiana, it was never a struggle. She simply gazed up at the maids with big, pleading eyes and they let her have her way. But when they were more adamant, she'd simply put on her lucky socks and count the minutes until the maids were off duty. Then she'd tip-toe with catlike precision into the kitchen and enjoy a bite of sweetness.
It was really quite simple.
But of course, little Kiana wasn't conscious to the fact that this "skill" had been developed and honed throughout the years. Growing up in her family her mother had always instilled in her the notion that she must be "elegant, graceful, and demure." Naturally, if she acted otherwise she would be scolded. And those scoldings were bad. Thus, because of this fear she developed impeccable posture, refined poise, and a cultivated demeanor. She herself never realized this and just took it to be convention, but other parents admired her and often asked her parents what the secret to raising such a lovely child was.
This discipline thus gave her a great advantage, and by the time she realized she was stunned that she didn't realize this sooner. She could walk unnoticed from one end of the house to the other, and the maids wouldn't even hear or see her. She could slide down the handrails of the stairs and nobody would stop her (because no one would have noticed, obviously). Hell, she could sneak out, go to a party, come back, and still be unscathed and unnoticed. She had once tested this new "power" by sneaking into her parents' room at night and swiping her favorite graphic novel from their bedside (they forbade her to read it ever since she tried to recreate one of the scenes in the backyard and scraped her knee). Nobody woke up.
Of course, the power was also the reason why she suffered. She had once (when she was nine) tried sneaking downstairs to grab a box of juice (late-night hunger) and instead ended up eavesdropping on a conversation between her parents that would change her life. A divorce. She'd returned to her room juiceless and in tears.
Despite that one instance, Kiana eventually did recover and the 'power' ended up bringing her more benefit than harm anyway. She tried not to abuse this power (and she didn't) but it empowered her. It made her confident. By eleven she could walk with such elegant ease that it made the other neighborhood tweens look like Neanderthals. She could follow the stray cats (whom she loved feeding, but were incredibly elusive) to their lair without being noticed. She even thought they may have mistook her for a cat after that stunt.
She felt more than she'd ever had before.

ReducioMany would know that Lea was motivated in her studies. With her teammates' eyes on her now as a duelling co-captain, the now Fifth Year feared the embarrassment of saying that she didn't know a spell or hadn't understood the last homework. She was already living enough fear with quidditch, so duelling and the classroom would have to be her comfort points- a challenge still, to be sure, but one that Lea could take in stride. The Hufflepuff was already learning charms ahead of her year, what more was there to acheive?
Much like most of her past year-long projects, she would find her new goal upon observing some of the other duellists in practice. With only a point of their wand would the ground explode underneath the dummy's post, no words enunciated despite clearly needing to do so for such a spell. Lea would blink, certain that she missed something- perhaps watching a little too late, but the other duellist would opt for the Blindfolding Spell the next time around as a cloth simply appeared around the dummy's eye with only a motion and a point. This- this was the next thing to learn.
It wouldn't take too many questions directed towards the librarian to figure out that spells could be casted wandlessly and nonverbally with enough practice- components that Lea once thought were required unless otherwise unlisted. A bit baffled by this new information, Lea would take to a similar training regiment as she had when learning spell spread. It would start with mastering a spell regularly that she could then use as a baseline for her continued efforts. Something easy and visible, Lea opted for the Green Sparks Charm. It did often result in her almost blinding herself in the process but the Hufflepuff would reach the point where creating green sparks almost seemed second nature. Easy and nearly effortless, she moved onto the second step. Whispering.
At first this wouldn't change the ease much. Switching from a talking voice to a more hushed classroom side conversation level dulled a few of the sparks, but with enough of a stern expression and focus towards where the spell would be and the sparks returned to normal. It would be making that whisper imperceptible that proved a challenge, not only removing a show of will but also breaking her concentration with keeping her voice down while trying to visualize the spell. Most of the first successes would only be hit with the realization that she had spoken- and in a voice others could here. Practice for the rest of the day would only worsen as some of the aggravation stole her focus too.
It would be once Lea finally took a break that she would actually find more success. A calm mind and precise wand work tipped the scales against murmured words, progress creating progress that would turn words from spoken to hushed to a whisper to only mouthed. Until finally came the fated day that all the fifth year had to do was flick her wand in the right motion and think the words for sparks to fly out of her wand with hardly a warning to anyone else. The next step of wandless would be for another time, happy with her practice bringing continued success.

ReducioSitting on her bed in her dormitory, Ileen chewed on her lower lip, her arms wrapped around her knees that she had pulled into her chest. Rocking back and forth she tried to get a grip of this unbearable anxiety she felt.
At the end of every year she was reflecting about her past at Hogwarts and what had happened.
It had been a tough few years. And what a wild ride it had been. It seemed like only yesterday that she had crossed the threshold of the castle, tried on the Sorting Head and been sent to Slytherin. At the time, she had been terrified that she was harboring something evil that would eventually burst out of her.
She had met Victor when he was already more dead than alive, had saved her group from a stupid fight at Fight Club and had failed to save Victor. Twice. That had led her to wanting to become one of the best healers of this century. She had worked hard, studied late into the night, taken an internship in the Hospital Wing and freed her classmates from the curse.
Together with Percival and Matthias, she had dragged her classmates from the dungeon back to the common room. They had barely made it. And then she had been so driven by the desire to fix everything that she had overextended herself.
She had wanted to fix everything, heal everyone and had lost her cool. She had made everything worse and her house professor had had to bring people back to life when their spirit was flickering in their chest like a candle in the wind, about to blow out forever.
Ileen shivered instinctively. She felt the agonizing, all-consuming feeling of guilt. Still. Her hands clenched into fists and her fingernails dug into her palms.
No more. She had worked too hard for this to give up now. This failure, that could have killed her entire house, this damn incompetence to pull them back over the edge when they were hanging there with the edges of their fingers. Ileen wanted to help them to claw their way back up, not only preventing them from getting there! And she knew she could. She was not evil. She was a healer, for Merlin's sake!
Determination marked her fine features as she sat up straight. She had learnt her lesson. She had studied the human body and medicine for so many years. Magical medicine, muggle medicine, atonomy. In theory, she knew how it worked. She just had to keep calm. The calm to concentrate on the essentials if the worst came to the worst.
The spark of life, of consciousness, that flickered in someone when it seemed as if they were almost gone.
Ileen closed her eyes and breathed deeply, feeling inside herself. Feeling for her spark. And she felt it. Life pumped powerfully through her veins, the will to go on living, to never stop.
As she exhaled, she felt a new bond forming inside her. And instinctively, she knew that she could rekindle this spark in others if she remained calm and focussed on it. Next time, it would be different.

Evony received her Hogwarts letter on July 18th, shortly after being transferred to the Whitlocks. They would not officially be her new foster family, but she would be staying with them for the summer before boarding the train to her new magic school, where she would then live for the next seven years. In fact, she was ecstatic to learn that she would not have any foster families anymore, really. She would stay at Hogwarts during all of her short breaks, and a home would be arranged for her each summer for the long breaks between years. After her seven years at school, she would age out of the foster system and finally be free.
The Whitlocks were a wealthy magical family with a grand estate. The large room Evony was provided with was more impressive than anywhere else she had ever stayed, but she was careful not to become too attached or to claim the room as “hers”, knowing this was only a temporary situation. The Whitlocks were kind but distant, their interests lying more in high society and magical politics, which suited Evony fine. She was free to explore and preferred the time to herself.
During one of her solitary explorations of the large mansion, she stumbled upon the Whitlock library. She was delighted to find the large room filled with shelves upon shelves of books on various magical subjects. Her mind raced with fantastic ideas as she ran her fingers over the spines of the books - books on spells, wizarding world history, potions, strange sports such as Quidditch, magical law, magical theory, Herbology, Divination…
However, one section in particular caught her attention: a collection of books on magical creatures and non-human beings. Though the Whitlocks didn’t seem to have any specific interest in these creatures (they owned no magical pets and there was no artwork of magical creatures to be found), their library was surprisingly well-stocked with information about them. Although she was excited to learn all she could about the magical world, this topic - its mystical and mysterious inhabitants - was especially intriguing. The first book she read was “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” by Newt Scamander. She was fascinated by the detailed descriptions of creatures like the Hippogriff, the Niffler, and the Bowtruckle. She marveled at the illustrations and imagined what it would be like to see these creatures in real life. As she read, she began to understand their habits, their diets, and their unique characteristics.
Over the summer, Evony spent hours in the library, poring over books, taking notes, and drawing sketches. Her favorite spot was a cozy nook by a large window, where she could read by the soft light of the sun during the day and by the glow of candles at night. She went on a deep dive of information about non-humans and learned that Parselmouths possess the rare ability to communicate with snakes. Metamorphmagi can change their appearance at will, without a wand or incantation. Part-Veelas inherit enchanting beauty and charm from their Veela ancestry, and part-Giants are known for their immense strength and towering stature. Part-Goblins have an affinity for metalwork and often excel in craftsmanship. Dhampirs - born of a human and a vampire - possess enhanced strength and agility. Seers have the rare gift of prophecy and are able to see into the future. Werewolves, who transform during the full moon, often possess heightened senses and strength.
By the time she was ready to leave for her first year at Hogwarts, she had developed a deep understanding of how these non-humans and creatures were different from humans. She noted their unique abilities, their routines and preferences, and their interactions with the magical world. She realized that while she might not be able to confidently identify a humanoid that wasn’t entirely human, she had gained a significant advantage in knowing more about them. She might be able to anticipate their behaviors, understand their needs, and - hopefully - respect their boundaries.
