At the end of this lesson you will learn the transfiguration spell: Whistle to Watch. in this spell, you are able to change a whistle (the type you blow into) into a watch. No, not an electronic device but the sort that winds.

Is that all the lessons in 1st year before I learn that spell?

Once you get graded on the homework that says 'at the end of this lesson you will learn', you will have achieved that spell. Then you go to the trunk update encyclopedia form and fill out the information given to you and say that you've learned that spell. Once your trunk has that spell listed in your trunk you can use that spell whenever you want. Until your trunk has that spell listed there you can't use it. Hope that helped?

Then you can't do it yet. You have to be registered with Index to make use of spells/potions.

As Kim has said, there is an index process. I can see you have applied, it can take up to two weeks for the trunk to be transferred over.

Once you have been indexed, you can learn the spells specified in that particular lesson as per Kim's instructions. You do not need to do every lesson in a year before you learn spells.

A quick mention to relevant parties - I can see deleted messages in this thread (and every thread). expect a letter from me later.

Also, gaining spells requires a few steps:

1. You need to have a character that is registered with Index. A tutorial for this can be found here. You will know that you are registered when your Trunk is overwritten by the Game Master. So it will have the same content as your original trunk post but the author will be the Game Master rather than you. Index Registration is done by live people and they look into people's histories much more closely than validations (the first people you likely were in contact with) who will approve your basic account before you enter the sorting ceremony. This does take time, and can take up to 2 weeks for them to get back to you. You are free to roleplay while you are waiting and even complete classes, but you wont have access to the spell until you have a registered character with a trunk that has been updated to include the spell(s) you have earned in lessons.

2. You need to complete a class and earn better than a T to learn the spell. Earning a T is somewhat difficult, but can be done (usually by plagiarists). If you pay attention to the lesson, perhaps do some minor research on your own, you should get a decent grade. Os (or top scores) are hard to come by, but if you take your time and write very descriptively you will likely catch all of the points that the Professor is looking for.

• It is important to note that not every class offers a spell. So the classes that do offer a spell will say so clearly.
• Some classes will offer potions. Completing the class does not give you the potion as an item, but rather the knowledge to make the potion, We have a potions system for making potions.
• Some classes will offer more than one spell on completion. You would learn all of the spells.

3. So once your character is registered and you have completed a class with a passing grade, you would post in the Encyclopedia Update Form. The form asks for proof, such as a screen shot. They will also ask you to provide the code that you want to use for your trunk post. Please remember, we do have a 'standardization' to our trunk posts. We were forced to enact limitations on the 'code' used because it was hard for the staff to read or the code would 'break' when we reposted it, leading to hours spent trying to 'fix' the code or deal with an irate player that would blame the Index staff for not doing something correctly. They also had members that would just state "add in these changes" and the staff would have to sift through sometimes very complicated posting code to facilitate this. The lack of respect for staff time resulted in this change. They are very strict on this. So if you want to have your trunk coded a specific way, as long as it falls within the limitations detailed in the trunk standardization thread I linked above, and you provide the coding, the Index Team would be able to facilitate you.

4. Once your character has a registered character (step 1); you have completed a class that allows you to learn a spell with a passing grade (step 2); and you have applied for a trunk update in the trunk update thread with proof of class completion and any special coding you need to have (step 3)... the Index team will review the information and proof to make sure that you have completed the class as claimed and update your trunk accordingly. If a spell is in your trunk, you can use it in threads.
