[You didn't ask me to be born
You, why should you learn of war or pain?
To make sure you're not hurt again
I swear I'll give my life for you.]
i dont understand the words of your lullabies, mum.
last night
you told me to smile
when i was happy
you pulled at my cheeks and i laughed
and you laughed too
i think.
i like it when that happens.
[I've tasted love beyond all fear
And you should know it's love
That brought you here]
i don't understand the words of your lullabies, mum.
last night
you told me papa would come home
very soon, you said.
you smiled then
like you were happy
and i smiled too, and you hugged me
i think.
i like it when that happens.
[You will be who you want to be
You, can choose whatever heaven grants
As long as you can have your chance
I swear I'll give my life for you]
i don't understand the words of your lullabies, mum.
last night
you told me about my future.
you laughed so much you cried
well that's what you told me afterwards.
i like it that you laugh so much you cry.
you do it every night
when you think i'm not watching
and it makes me so glad
to see that you're happy
i think.
[No grace, no hope
No chance, no change
No goodbye, no regrets
No regrets, no return]
i don't understand the words of your lullabies, mum.
last night
you told me about your job
why you come home late every night.
i'm happy you're laughing
because i wouldn't be.
but you said it's ok
you can keep looking after me
and that won't ever change
i think.
[As long as you can have your chance
I swear I'll give my life for you
No one can stop what I must do
I swear I'll give my life for you!]
i don't understand the words of your lullabies, mum.
last night
you came back crying
clutching yourself
you stumbled through the door and kissed me
hard
like you never wanted to let go.
i don't understand the words of your lullabies, mum.
last night
you told me the story
of how he beat you because of me
and i have to keep quiet tonight.
it was only a joke, you said
and you laughed
but you cried yourself to sleep again last night
i know the story
mum. look at me. listen to me.
it's ok.
i swear i'll give my life for you.
Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.
You, why should you learn of war or pain?

This poem was taken from the song I'd Give My Life For You, from the musical Miss Saigon. The bits in italics are pulled directly from the song; the rest is my own work. enjoy!!
Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.
W.O.R.D. - Prompts, Sharing, and Feedback (OOC)
Just realized I never gave feedback to your piece all those months ago, @Gabriela Haworth. It was so beautiful and haunting! I liked how you incorporated those stanzas from the song you chose, and it was powerful how you used an innocent and confused child's pov to say difficult, mature things. Great job!
"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be
insane by those who could not hear the music."
W.O.R.D. - Prompts, Sharing, and Feedback (OOC)
After about 13 months (wow-), welcome back, members of W.O.R.D.!
I am so sorry for the long interlude of radio silence on my end. I have not been as active on the site as you may or may not know, but I've decided to start back up our weekly prompts. [Insert crowd cheering noise.] If you're wondering why you just got a notification in the sign-up thread, I added mentions to the names in the memberlist for quick copy-paste purposes.
Keep an eye out for this week's prompt, coming soon!

Hello, and happy return, W.O.R.D.ies! I'm so glad to be finally presenting you all with our prompt for this week, which you've probably gathered is centered around mythical creatures.
Personally, they've always been a subject of great fascination for me, and often manage to find their way into my writing. As this is a roleplaying site for a fantasy series, you're probably pretty familiar with them as well. There aren't a lot of guidelines this week, just allow yourself to be inspired by these mysteries of mythology. Perhaps a series of haiku about Bigfoot, or some stream-of-consciousness prose following pixies in the Florida everglades. A free verse poem about a mermaid with a dark secret, or a screenplay scene exploring what Medusa does on the weekends. A Guild of Imaginary Creatures having a meeting, even. You may take inspiration from creatures within the Potterverse, or those featured within Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Native American, etc. mythologies, or beings from popular urban legends. Heck, if you wanted to make up your own creature and write about them, that would be super cool, too.
Here's a brief list of mythical creatures to get you started:
- Dragon
- Unicorn/pegasus
- Phoenix
- Mermaid
- Gorgon (Medusa)
- Gnome/dwarf
- Fairy/pixie
- Sphinx
- Thestral
- Griffin
- Loch Ness Monster
- Yeti
- Leprechaun
- Ghost (I guess)
- Hippocampus
- Dryad
- Hag
- Kelpie
Don't be afraid to go really obscure, although a new take on an overused creature is always fun.
And if your writing takes a different direction and you look up from your paper or the keyboard to find a monologue about toothbrushes or corruption in government, that's great too! Feel free to share if you wish, as long as it's relatively PG-13. Take a look at the site rating if you're not sure.
I think that's about it, so happy writing!

The magical forest
Walking into the dark forest
A quirky creature caught my eye
"What is it?" I thought
So I walked closer to see
When I looked through it carefully
I was completely lost for words
It`d got such amazing beauty
With its colorful horn and snow-white furs
It did not exist in the muggle world
And I only saw it in the book
Surprised to see it in real life, indeed
I took a careful look and think
I finally realized, after a sec
That the forest did have magic

I've been working on this poem for a bit. Hope you guys like it!
They call to me...(Thestrals)
Of I go
To see the Thestrals
In the Snow
So beautiful and black
That is Magic
In fact
I wonder what they think
Of death so bitter
Or so sweet
Maybe a treat?
They sing
And if you can see
You belong to me
And now, I see
That magic
Can be bad
That is
Sad
Thestral
I speak to you
But why can I see
You?
You call to me
I'll speak
But such
Beauty
Hides tragic
Things
Much like
Death
To see the Thestrals
In the Snow
So beautiful and black
That is Magic
In fact
I wonder what they think
Of death so bitter
Or so sweet
Maybe a treat?
They sing
And if you can see
You belong to me
And now, I see

Hides tragic
