To Bludger or to be Bludgered?
Ari's words of encouragement seemed to do good for Prat as he did...whatever Prat does. That seemed to involve barely evading bolting aggressive charges and nailing unsuspecting victims with bludgers. The two of them had hardly talked if at all beyond this match, but maybe if the Thunderbolts pulled through and walked away from this with a victory, he would treat him to a butterbeer. That's what people did to celebrate, right? He had never been the one to initiate such a thing before.
His attention went back to Elena as she attempted to keep an eye out for the snitch once again amidst her mingling with the chasers. Something, or rather someone in this case, seemed to be in her way. Thankfully, the culprits were caught, but not before Ari muttered some choice words between gritted teeth. If only they hadn't thrown her off, maybe she would have found the snitch again and turned this game around. Now his mind was veering off to plot vengeance as it often did.
Her tactics weren't entirely in vain, though. A few quaffle fights later, she snagged it and made a beeline for the opponent's goals, closing the point deficit further. The initial idea of her being a chaser was looking more and more like a good idea now. He'd have to ask her about it after the match was done. Or maybe she didn't want to talk about quidditch at all afterwards. He wouldn't know until then. Regardless, he was clearly proud of her, evident through the shining smile on his face.

In a bizarre turn of events, the girl who'd spent much of the game playing seeker continued to find herself in scuffles with the quaffle. Elena was the same. With the snitch still running loose, the pair had thrown their own hats into this ring instead. There was far more adrenaline running through her than she could ever remember having in her entire life. Rather than making her want to reterat...it...well, it emboldened her.
When the confusing scruffle ended, Julia had the quaffle. Poppy was sure that would be the end of that, but with their chasers a little preoccupied, the girl found herself facing a quaffle heading right for her. Her?? Blue-green eyes widened at the suddenness of the situation, but she knew it wasn't the time to freeze. Forcing herself past the sudden terror of potentially having an invisible spotlight shining on her, she turned and headed for the goal posts.
Her heart was hammering, her palms sweating, her brain asking her if she'd entirely lost her mind. Scoring?? Her?
It was too good to be true, and the keeper quickly shut it down. But then, by some stroke of irony, the quaffle found itself in her hands again. Redemption? She didn't know about all that. There was still a snitch she had to be keeping an eye out for. Quaffle in hand, she supposed...well...she supposed she may as we—

Poppy's mouth fell open in disbelief as the ref called her name and her teammates cheered her on. Warmth pooled in her chest at the thought she may finally have done something right all game. It was...

But there was no time to rest. Elena had found her footing and had already snagged 20 points for her team.

Tatiana was in it to win it now. She was restless, having blocked two goals from the Golden Phoenix's seeker, which was surely unexpected seeing that just because the girl had spotted the snitch she had immediately began helping their Chasers whilst in the process of also chasing the small ball. But Tatiana was thankful otherwise, now she didn't have to deal with one hell of a chaser Montgomery was.
Though she did feel somewhat pity for the girl as she had let the Quaffle pass through her hoops, though only just barely missing her fingers. After that it seemed that their own seeker, Elena wanted to pounce too, and secured the Quaffle to herself during the remainder two rounds of grabbing it, and, as Tatiana expected, flawlessly scored; though that might've been because their keeper seemed to want to be on save duty rather than guarding the posts.
Though Tatiana could not care less, of course, her only goal was to win after all, not to feel pity for the other team. And it seemed now that the odds were working on their favor, the scoring was now 130 - 110, if Elena can keep up her chases, though two boys suspiciously looked like they were blocking Elena on purpose, they could still win this thing; that is if Persephone somehow, miraculously, looses sight of the snitch too.

𝕵ulia couldn't have felt more conflicted. First of all, the game seemed to have reversed as the 2 seekers suddenly became chasers while harlan and damien were elsewhwere. Elena, tried to grab the quaffle, but was still exceptionally disoriented. Julia and poppy, grabbed the quaffle at the same time and unfortunately, quite some energy was wasted in an attempt to let one take the quaffle. In the end, Julia grabbed it, but then passed to poppy, whose shot was just blocked, but still, blocked. They did the same for 2 rounds, elena missing, julia passing, poppy attempting to score. Finally, on the thrid try, poppy scored, and Julia felt her face break into a smile. But the europhia must have been distracting. Somehow, elena got the quaffle in the next try, and scored twice. A slight shiver went up Julia's spine. The Golden Pheonixes were still leading, 130-110, but only by a mere 20 points.
Quickly glancing around, julia saw prat sending a bludger at denise, and intercepting Laasya's bludger. A quiet groan escaped her mouth, but Julia shut it just as fast. She had to stay optimistic. Damien seemed intent on doing everything against the quidditch playbook, which he surely had read. He got a penalty lap, but only after hitting Laasya. Julia watched as her friend fell from her broom, but her horror turned to relief as the sea green eyes saw denise catching, and safely saving thy gryffindor. The population seated on the bench was diminishing, slowly trickling away despite the considerable lack of falling bodies. Cash, Riley, and Artie seemed to either be zoned out, becoming disinterested in the battle taking place in the sky while they were rooted to the ground, or had simply left the game out of boredom or due to a packed schedule. Ebony had to admit that the game had been running for quite a while — perhaps maybe even slightly longer than normal games — but the rules stated that the match was not to end until certain conditions were met. Not that she minded an extended game whatsoever; more time spent on Quidditch, even if she was not playing, was time well spent. The three remaining seated on the bench were quite vocal, however, evidently still willing to voice their support — or to heckle — toward the untethered flyers. Harumi’s voice rang particularly sonorously, her persistent shouts and cheers having been a constant throughout the game. She was, at this point, a staple beacon of support for the Golden Phoenix. Poppy was particularly uplifted by Harumi’s encouraging words, perhaps rendering her spirits lifted. Valour’s cheers for Prat were not lost to the wind nor drowned out by the other’s cries either, though her voice was not as prominent as that of Harumi. Ari, in contrast to the uplifting shouts of the two others seated beside him, decided to radiate negativity, particularly directing it toward Harlan.

DEBUFF FOULS
Mirada had missed a lot of action throughout the long duration of the game so far. Having been stuck on save duty — Ebony did find it admittedly boring, though it was evidently an important role and a crucial part of strategy — Mirada had been circling below her teammates, ready to swoop in and be somebody’s saviour, an angel who has the power to reduce the need for another unconscious body to be dragged to the Hospital Wing. Fortunately for the team, though rendering the match rather unfortunately dull for Mirada, there have been no bodies falling from heaven as of late. She had perhaps been lulled into a routine circling, coming out empty-handed — or empty-broomed — every time. It was thus incredibly unprecedented when Mirada jumped straight into the fray, barrelling before Persephone in an attempt to block her path to the snitch. Saviour to cheater. She failed horrendously, however, perhaps overshooting her target a little too overeagerly. Persephone proceeded on her merry way towards the snitch; she even had the room to do a little loop had she wanted to. Such a sudden jump in action from the younger Ravenclaw girl, in addition to the obviously unsuccessful attempt, rendered it so that the foul was incredibly obvious to the referee’s eyes, and she was not to let it go, instantly calling her to a penalty lap. Mirada would have to go back to circling the pitch, though if she spotted any tumbling teammates, she would not be able to swoop in like a knight in shining armour this time around.

CHASERS/SEEKERS
Persephone, after evading Mirada’s snitch block, found herself toying with the Quaffle yet again. The Quaffle grab was a breeze, with the Seeker being able to obtain the Quaffle all five times unobstructed due to there being no other contenders. She was unobstructed — until it came to Tatiana. The part-Veela became her one and only obstacle, yet she was a challenging obstacle to get through indeed.
On her first attempt, Persephone handled the Quaffle rather poorly, the leather scraping against her hand and likely leading to some sort of abrasion. The fumble led Tatiana to be able to easily catch the Quaffle, the red ball landing straight in her hands. The second and third attempts — though handled and placed toward the hoops with slightly more skill — were blocked rather easily by Tatiana with outstretched hands, The fourth attempt from Persephone really was a very strong one; the Quaffle sailed towards the hoops at such a speed and was hurled at such an angle such that Ebony almost thought it had gone in. But Tatiana was faster; she was able to knock the Quaffle away from the goal for a fourth time, with a little bit of flourish, even. The final attempt was where Persephone really could have scored. Could have, if not for Tatiana’s suddenly extraordinary display of finger strength. The Quaffle grazed the Keeper’s fingertips, and it really seemed for a moment as though Persephone had scored — but no. Tatiana was miraculously able to fend it away, perhaps with a flick of the wrist or a strong twitch of the fingers.
“Five spectacular blocks from Contraire — and has Grimsbane hurt herself there?” Perhaps being accustomed to playing against a Chaser as skilled as Harlan for so many rounds built Tatiana to become a killer Keeper who was not to be messed with. Persephone, on the other hand, might find it beneficial to stick to being a Seeker (unlike Elena). That in no way suggested that the Gryffindor was not skilled, but she perhaps simply preferred to chase gold over red, though both were her house colours.

BLUDGERS
Laasya and Denise, who were sharing a broom, placed themselves before Persephone in an attempt to defend against any attacks against her. The sole remaining beater on the opposing team, however, was strangely situated nowhere near the bludgers — nowhere to be found, in fact. That left the two bludgers unattended and unhappy; rogue, one may say, prepared to slam into the first unaware player they came across. The first roaming bludger hurtled toward Harlan, but he dodged with ease without even taking a glance towards it. A negligible bludger for the experienced lion. The other bludger headed towards Rafal, who was still stuck in a perpetual penalty lap. The Slytherin cheater was unfortunately slightly dazed, it seemed — no longer fit to remain on the pitch in such a state — and the bludger slammed into him. Though it dealt minimal damage overall, it was sure to leave a plum coloured bruise.

Prat seemed to completely ditch his beater's bat, barrelling toward Harlan in an attempt to knock the boy's brains out and off his broom. But perhaps Harlan had more brain than Ebony gave him credit for, for he intuitively swerved away from Prat's attempted assault; his evasive tendencies likely kicked in in time to allow quick manoeuvering.

Damien was so glad he was done with his penalty lap, he could get back into the game and help his team. Right now it was 130 to 110 which wasn’t bad at all they had managed to get caught up and only needing 20 more points to tie. Damien didn’t care he was going to do whatever it took to make sure his team won. He did have a reputation to maintain after all as he hadn’t lost a game yet and he wasn’t about to start now. Honestly he has faith in Elena the most. If anyone on this team could manage to catch the snitch and win them this game it was Elena she was someone Damien admired a lot so he had a lot of faith in her. He flew past her as her an encouraging smile. “Elena! Remember you got this! If anyone is smart and wise enough to find the snitch is you! So let’s win this thing!” He felt that words of encouragement would help her out more as he wanted to let her know he believed in her. Honestly Damien believed in the whole team as he has no doubt they all could pull a win out of this somehow. “We got this guys! let go thunderbolts!” He let out a little cheer as he smiled at them all. |

Words: 259The one good thing about having to take a penalty lap, except the joy it usually brought him to pull a foul, was the chance to properly inspect the rest of the game. He was usually too busy swinging the bat, or anything else that might cause someone to take damage or fall from their broom. With Zeph sitting in front, steering the broom like a champ, Max had the time to both observe as well as try to shake off the dizzy spell that had stuck with him since that stupid idiot hit him with a bludger early rounds.
It seemed all members of the team did sensible things. No one got hit by rouge bludgers, or let themselves be fouled. Good on them! He couldn’t help but bark a bit of a laugh as no less than two of the opposite team were called to do penalty next. It was probably good for Johnson though, she had seen very little action so far. That stupid idiot Pass on the other hand, could do well with a long and hard fall off of his broom. As they circled the pitch, Max bent down to make sure his mate heard him. That was the great thing about sharing a broom: someone was always there to hear his jokes and comments! «Let’s get this over with, yeah? There were a lot of unexpected turns within the game, one of the most prominent being how she managed to get her hands on the quaffle so often when the golden snitch was her prize. That little bit of pondering would have to wait until she dealt with the near collision heading her way. Quick as she could, the small girl veered right on her broom, throwing enough of her weight into it that she ended up completing a loop.
She sighed heavily in relief at the narrow evasion, taking a moment to right herself and reorient herself to the pitch. The last time she'd seen the snitch, it was...

By some stroke of great irony, the wrong ball had once again found itself in Persephone's possession. It was a little uncanny how it kept happening, despite her every attempt to focus on the snitch. The scores were close now. It really was a seeker's game to determine who would win. Suddenly, the pressure returned. Poppy knew what it meant. Winning or losing the game now fell on her shoulders, and at the moment, apparently so did scoring.
It was every bit the spectacular disaster she knew it would be. She really should've focused on the one job she'd been put on the pitch to do before she made an even bigger mess of things.

Now with another person on her broom, her dear friend Laasya Manjunath, she felt a bit nervous flying, since she was worried about dropping her off if she flew a bit too fast. Instead, she decided to protect Poppy Grimsbane, well, their only hope. The match had already lasted a long time, and she was exhausted and tired. With Manjunath, she flew around Grimsbane, trying to protect her from any bludger that might hit her.
Well, she was close to catching the snitch, and Denise wanted to make sure that Poppy was the one who caught it first, finally ending the game. Finally, it felt like forever, and Denise, with all the adrenaline in the beginning, was lost.
She looked nervously for a moment down at the second-string players; only Harumi Everdane left. Only she was left, and she didn't really see the others, even their own captain, being engaged anymore. Mirada Johnson, perhaps finally tired from "saving," which she understood, finally attempted to snitch-block Grimsbane. Fortunately, Grimsbane succeeded in evading, and Denise had to give a side-eye to the poor girl who realized she probably sucked at fouling, just like Denise.
She expected Prat Pass to do a good smack of Grimsbane, which was rather smart. Instead, she saw Pass hurling towards Harlan Montgomery, which Denise had to wince at. Montgomery evaded, but she knew that Pass was in his first penalty laps.
A lot of penalty laps, and Denise honestly felt like soon, with two seekers almost catching the snitch, there's going to be a lot of them.
