Elena was an observer. Since her earliest childhood, she noticed small things that went unnoticed by the rest of the world: the way the leaves rustled slightly before a storm, the faintest hint of a smile on a stranger’s face, or the almost imperceptible way her cat’s ears twitched before it pounced. During a walk in the woods with her father, she once pointed out the tracks of a fox, hidden beneath layers of fallen leaves, that even he had missed.
This capacity developed with age, becoming more pronounced as she grew older. Elena could sense subtle changes in her parents' moods, such as when her father straightened up just before he was about to speak or the slight twitch of her mother's eyebrow when she was about to make a joke. Her keen eye and deep empathy became more refined, helping her understand the world in ways others could not.
The day her father died, the moment she stepped onto the porch of her home, she knew something was wrong. Her eyes moved quickly, noting all the small anomalies: the muddy footprints near the door, the doormat completely turned over, the house impeccably clean and polished. Her mother only cleaned like that when she needed to distract herself. When her gaze met her mother’s red, swollen eyes, she understood. And her world shattered.
Later, she regretted not having said a proper goodbye. She should have noticed something, anything, that could have told her that her father would never come back. She swore to be even more attentive, to never miss anything again. At age nine, when she discovered Sherlock Holmes for the first time, she knew she had found her favorite book. She immediately wanted to possess the same keen sense of observation as the famous detective. She practiced by observing the everyday life—how her friends' laughter would falter slightly when they were upset, or how a teacher's demeanor would shift before announcing a surprise test.
Her sharp eye, coupled with her great empathy, allowed her to help her friends who were suffering, even when they did everything to hide it. She knew how to gauge people with a single glance. Of course, every person had surprises in store, but her first instinct was always right. This was why she accepted Jim so quickly. She observed the way he looked at her mother, but also how he acted with her cat, or how we would carefully place things on a surface, respecteful and scared to break anything. She saw the little things, the genuine care and kindness, and knew he was someone they could trust.
When she first read "Hogwarts: A History," she knew she belonged in Ravenclaw. Her thirst for learning and understanding was driven primarily by her desire to know others. The intricacies of human behavior fascinated her as much as any spell or potion.

River was always an observant child. Her memory was perfect, a condition known as Hyperthymesia. She could never forget what something looked like as soon as she saw it. Memories would flit by behind her eyelids with a single glance. All of this ensured that she was always quick to notice when something was off...out of place.
She was quick to grow bored of those childish muggle games like I spy or Hide and Seek that her parents tried to play with her. It was simply too obvious to her what they would hint at or that parts of the surrounding had been disturbed. Her father noticed it quite quickly and he knew that this was an ability that would help her immensely as she grew older. He knew she wouldn't want to be an Auror like him, her love for magical creatures a perfect replica of her mother's. but he knew it could help protect her either way.
And so, he tried to subtly train her. Hiding in more and more difficult to find places, ensuring that he left only the smallest of traces. Using more and more obscure ways to describe things, forcing River to think deeply on how his vague descriptions would fit what she was looking for. He even went as far as only giving her a few seconds to look around and memorise their surroundings before closing her eyes and guessing multiple items he hinted at. Year after year he honed her ability, making the challenges harder and harder.
River loved the challenge, loved always surpassing his expectations and even her own as she continued to trust her memory and intuition. Her father soon began to up the ante even further, hiding items among the creature habitats. The items would always be things that anyone else wouldn't think out of place, an extra feeder, a rock shifted out of place, a branch transfigured to hide amongst the occamies.
Again and again, River would get the distinct feeling that something was off with her surroundings and, after a quick glance, would take the out of place item back to her father with a proud grin splitting her face in half. She loved receiving the awarded ruffle of her inky black hair, the proud glint in his grey eyes and the excited hug from her mother after River jumped towards her to ramble about her newest scavenger hunt.

Since she was very young, Eugenia wanted to learn everything about the magical world. All the facts, all the potions, all the spells. And she wanted to master them at all costs. She had even asked her mother to teach her as much as she could before going to Hogwarts, but she always the same thing. Oh my dear, you will learn everything you wish to now at school. There is no need for you to know them already. After all, that is what school is for. But no, she was still determined.
As soon as she got her acceptance letter, she went to Diagon Alley and bought all her books. Every day, she would spend hours at her bedroom, reading her school books, trying to kind of “learn” everything she needed to know. (This was a practice she also followed in later years) She practiced the wand movements with a spare quill in the air and she said the incantations meticulously, trying to get the tones right. Being Greek did have its disadvantages, ok?
When she got to Hogwarts, she was more excited than ever. This time, for real, she was going to learn all the spells, learn them correctly, learn then as a student. She always attended classes, she never missed a single one, nor did she forget to do homework assignments or surpass the deadlines. She was so eager to learn and to become perfect, that such a thing would be unacceptable by her own high standards.
What the professors didn’t know was the sheer effort she put into every single spell when practicing. She would repeat the words in her head, imagine the wand movement quite a few times before she cast the spell. She would go back to her ruthless training, the one she did on her own in her dorm room every single night to get the spells right by the next morning. Even if it meant losing countless hours of sleep, even if it meant less social interaction. She wasn’t just a good and smart student, “a natural” people called her, she was also a dedicated and meticulous child, who would never stop her efforts if it meant getting the hang of something or perfecting her ways.
By the end of the year, Eugenia had become a perfectionist, one backed by countless hours of practice and hard-work. There was no spell that backfired, no spell that failed, no test result beneath 100%. She was a perfectionist, a person who would only succeed in casting, never fail. Because to her, perfection was everything.

Laxius was bewitched and fascinated by the magical world ever since he enter Hogwarts. However, one thing that kept his awe at bay was nothing but his fear of darkness. At the age of eleven, he walked through the doors of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a place where magic existed in ways that he had never imagined. Despite being bewitched by his new surroundings, Laxius’s trepidation about the dark and fearsome creatures in the ancient castle crosses an all-time high. One of the factors is that in this world ghosts, spirits, and many other unfathomable creatures are confirmed to exist here.
As a child, Laxius turned to drawing pictures as well as painting and taking photos as a means on which he could rely for comfort. These activities helped him to catch some beauty around him while at the same time preserving instances featuring light as well as color somehow. Still, though, his dread for the dark remained as a blockage on the way through his adventure. It dawned on him that to lose himself in Hogwarts’ enchantment, he had to face this fear head-on and beat it.
While struggling to find a way out of this problem, it suddenly struck him about an animal he learned from the muggle school that lives in the darkness, which is none other than bats. He rushed to the library and found a book about animals. He thought he would find some inspiration about being able to see in the dark. Instead, he discovered that bats usually don't rely on vision for hunting and moving around. They use what’s called “ Echolocation”, which is an ultrasonic sound emitted by bats to communicate and navigate surroundings by analyzing the echoes.
Of course, a human, like Laxius cannot just produce and use echolocation like bats do. But from this knowledge, he learns from the bat's ability about how one sense can compensate for another. With this inspiration, Laxius determined to acquire this ability: an ability to use his other senses more in the dark in order to navigate the surroundings.
He took the bold step and came to the meadows beside the forest in the afternoon. Then, he took a deep, long, and strong breath as he closed his eyes for a split second, so as not to be deceived by the sun's allure. While he was there, the familiar sounds around him seemed to magnify and become clear. The rustling of leaves was audible as a cool summer breeze blew them, the far-off tweeting of the birds, and the faint murmur of life all around him were heard. As he inhaled, his nose was filled with the scent of grass and wet soil. This experience allows Laxius to discover that he doesn't need his vision to see and experience the beauty of the world.
Laxius set his feet down quite gingerly for the first time, trying to visualize the scenery in his head. He stretched out his hands, feeling not only the rough surface of the tree bark but also the softness of the leaves. Every step was intentional and slow, his senses working in harmony to guide him. The warm sunlight on his skin was a gentle reminder of the familiar world while also encouraging him to have faith in his other senses. Laxius is well aware that this ability can't be bought instantly, it requires a lot of practice. That's why he is patient and not disappointed by the slow progress.
As time passed, he then began to recognize subtle differences in his surroundings. He was capable of sensing the alteration in temperature as he moved from sunlight to shade, hearing the varying pitches of sounds that indicated different distances, and smelling different plants. His skin was sensitive to the touch and because of that, he could navigate obstacles around him with confidence.
Laxius practiced hard as days turned into weeks Consequently, thanks to his efforts, he managed to make a breakthrough. Sufficiently enough, he was smiling as he realized that he was now able to move around better in the dark thanks to his other senses. He turned to his inner self and unveiled the fact that the darkness was not an enemy, but a different aspect of the world that he could learn to explore and understand. Despite this achievement, it doesn't mean that Laxius has completely overcome its fear of darkness, instead, he just now has more courage to face the darkness.
One beautiful evening, Laxius decided to prove his talents to the final test. He ventured around the great lake nearby, an area that offers both beauty and mysteries. On that peaceful night, the moon presented itself very well, as flawless as the shining crystal and the lake seemed to be in perfect harmony with the world. The sight seduced Laxius to get a pencil and start to draw the scenery, but this time he was there for another purpose. He shut his eyes and took the first steps around the lake. He tuned in his heightened senses for the advice to go this way or that passing the lake to him. The nocturnal animals that were lurking out, the smell of the lake's water, and the cool air brushing his skin overcame his consciousness.
While navigating the lake, Laxius experienced a deep connection to the surrounding nature. He was surprised to realize that his old fear of the dark had been replaced by an exciting wonder and curiosity. He was no longer worried that he would not find his way in the middle of the night or would even get hurt; instead, he embraced the challenge and had trust in himself.
Leaving the lake, Laxius felt satisfied and proud for he managed to beat back his fear of darkness. This particular experience is what made him confident in his newly learned ability as well as his dedication and belief in himself. Then he did find the darkness of the castle no longer held the same power over him. Having learned his new skills, he was now set to attend the magical school, proud of his newly discovered potential to face all kinds of darkness that came his way.
Status: Pending - Hi Laxius, your app is nice and detailed, but just a few notes. When it says that he found note in a book of a skill called "blindvision"...In HIO lore, we do not consider "blindvision" to be an actual magical 'ability' in-universe that one can learn, like Occulumency, but simply as you describe, the physical ability to use your other senses to get around without vision. So Laxius can definitely train to do it as you describe, but could you edit the bits about it being mentioned by name in a book as if it is a magical ability that is named in-universe? If he closes his eyes, he can use his other senses, but it isn't like they will magically become clearer, just that he learns to listen to them more.

Year 5: Nonverbal Magic:
ReducioIn 2004 a much younger Orion had fostered his growing interest in being more stealthy. He had already practiced being more evasive, tossing himself onto the floor to learn certain rolls until his body was bruised from his efforts. Luckily for the French boy, this next challenge would be a lot less physical.
The idea of being able to cast without so much as whispering a word was appealing to him. After all, if he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps he had to train himself properly before he graduated. There was absolutely no time to waste and failure wasn't an option. Defence Against the Dark Arts had admittedly become a subject that Orion was enthralled with. He had taken his OWLs and managed to get the highest grade offered by Beauxbatons. His professor had suggested he look into more skills he could refine/learn to help him with his journey.
The French boy had searched his school's library high and low to find any books he could about the subject, and he was quick to devour each one. He started himself off simple at first, just whispering spells to practice. Not that it was like the real thing, but sometimes he could barely hear himself as he flicked his wand towards an object.
The next step was to repeat the incantations of the spells clearly within his head. It was during a late night study session that he found himself mouthing the incantation for the Levitation Charm, then begin to flick and swish his wand towards the book sitting in front of him.
'Wingardium Leviosa,' He had repeated within his head, 'Wingardium Leviosa--...' He stopped short when the novel started to hover off the table. It was unsteady at first, wobbling only about an inch off the desk, before it slammed back down onto the wood grain. He cussed under his breath, realizing that in his excitement he had forgotten to keep his concentration.
It was another week of late nights and concentration before he got a better result. His sapphire eyes bore holes into the novel in front of him as he raised his wand and did the usual movement. 'Wingardium Leviosa,' Echoed confidentially within his head. His breath hitched as he watched the book start to float and sway. As he raised his wand higher it soared further into the air. Orion felt like his heart was in his throat as he watched the object in pure amazement. He had done it.

Year 6: Wandless Magic:
ReducioIn the year 2005 Orion set his sets on a new goal; learning how to cast without so much as lifting his wand. According to his professors and the multitude of books he had checked out from the school's library, it was a rare and demanding skill, and it required an exceptional level of concentration and control. They had warned Orion that only the most disciplined and powerful wizards performed magic without the aid of a wand, but the Frenchman was never one to back down from a challenge. He had, after all, managed to learn how to cast Nonverbally, how difficult could it be to give up using a damn wand? The magic was inside him, so why did he have to rely on a wooden stick?
It seemed that Orion had jinxed himself with his cocky attitude, because as he sat within the dormitory and placed a book in front of him, much like he had when he learned how to cast non-verbally, he repeated the incantation within his head.
And nothing happened.
He sighed, his brows furrowing as he scowled down at the book, as if it were to blame for not randomly floating in the air. Maybe it was too much too soon? He could try not pairing it with his non-verbal ability and see if he did any better.
"Wingardium Leviosa," He said, out loud, staring at the book. It did not move.
"Wingardium Leviosa," He tried again, this time raising a hand. He used his index finger to try and mimic the usual wand movement. The book nudged a bit. That was as far as he got during his first two weeks of practice.
"Wingardium Leviosa," He said during his third week, his hand waving through the air. The book in front of him started to lift, one inch, two inches, until it was levitating six inches in the air. The French boy didn't dare to look away. He waved his hand up and watched it soar higher.
The journey was not over, because this new skill would not be nearly as useful if he couldn't pair it with his ability to cast nonverbal magic. The next week would be a struggle as the hand movements rewarded him with only another small wobble, it was to the point where he was practically screaming inside his head.
It was over a few months in, and an exhausted Orion took a deep breath, humbled by the difficulty of this endeavor. He had to connect with his magic, to feel it surging through his body. Only then would he be able to master wandless magic. Respect for himself and magic would help guide him.
He saw the incantation in his mind's eye, heard a voice echoing it within his head. He did not bother to lift a finger as he stared ahead at the now beat-up novel. 'Wingardium Leviosa,' Rise, he silently demanded.
And it complied. It flew into the air, soaring as high as Orion looked, and it wasn't until he looked away that the book dropped to the floor in front of him. He learned pretty quickly not to stop concentrating while casting any spell.

Year 7: Occlumency:
ReducioNote: Orion and Bernard (dNPC) are speaking French here but I have just written it in English to make things easier on both myself and the mod who reviews my application.
Orion had been horrified when he had first found out that there were wizards with the ability to read minds, the young French boy had almost lost his composure one day during Defence Against the Dark Arts class. He had recalled hearing about it as a young wizard, but admittedly he thought it was a myth, a thing of fairytales.
He wanted to be able to resist, wanted to force any wizard who thought they could delve into his mind and explore his precious memories to think twice.
Fortunately for Orion, he had already spent the past six years of his school career focusing on refining his skills, pushing the limits of his mind's boundaries. He was stubborn to a fault, and concentration was something he excelled in.
At first he turned to his ever-beloved school library to try and read up on the topic. Unfortunately this was a skill that required much more... Hands on practice. He had turned to his mother, Renée, and had practically begged her to hire a private tutor. She had found the request odd, but knew it would likely aid in her son's safety in his future career as an Auror. So she had hired a professional legillimens to assist Orion.
He was an older gentleman who happened to be a retired Auror, and the French boy couldn't have been more thrilled. At first. Until he realized how damn embarrassing it was to have a 50-something-year-old man named Monsieur Bernard that your mother had hired prod around your personal thoughts. Orion's first kiss? No longer a private moment. The weak mental walls he had placed to try and keep Monsieur Bernard out were easily ripped down, and he had made a cheeky comment about it, much to Orion's horror.
"It has to be precious memories, why else would you want to protect them?" Monsieur Bernard had told him during one session, after Orion had failed to fight him away when he had inquired about his last memory of his father. Tears had stained Orion's cheeks and his tutor could only sigh and dismiss him for the day.
"You can't let your emotions take control of you." Bernard had warned him one day. "Pick a mask and wear it. If you feel a certain way, pretend it's the opposite. You feel sad? Too damn bad, smile."
His lessons were grueling, and in stark contrast to when he had learned nonverbal and wandless magic, there were no tangible results, just a measure of how strong Orion's mind was and how he measured up against intense pressure. Bernard's methods were rigorous, but they got results. Eventually he helped Orion learn how to clear his mind, how to build up walls of resistance and not allow his emotions to get the best of him. Better than remaining stoic, the young wizard learned that appearing cheerful was really helpful in throwing people off.
Despite the difficulties, Orion's progress was steadily improving with each passing lesson, and he could block Bernard's mental attacks with more ease. His tutor seemed proud of his progress, regardless of however reserved he usually was, and soon he said there was nothing else he could teach Orion.
"Never forget that Occlumency is a lifelong discipline." The former Auror had told him during their last lesson together, "Your mind is your greatest defense, my boy. You've done well."
They were words Orion would carry with him over the years.

Describe why this fits your character: Ever since she was a child, Beatrice noticed things that others didn’t. A teacher constantly checking their phone, biting their nails anxiously, awaiting news. A classmate that always spoke a little too loudly, like he was afraid that if he didn’t make a scene that nobody would notice him and he would fade into nothingness. An owl that seemed to follow her around the woods by her house, beady eyes shining with the knowledge of something only they knew. She was aware of her surroundings constantly.
Her solitary character caused her peers to dub her as “weird,” but by being quiet and sitting out, she heard things others didn’t, noticed things others would’ve looked past. These observation skills paired with her uncanny intuition, helped her get through muggle school and other social situations.
She saw small signs in people, ones that they themselves didn’t even realise that gave her indications on how best to proceed. For example, one day she wanted her father to buy her a new book and she’d noticed earlier that day he’d exited his home office and headed to the kitchen, posture relaxed, like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. That deal he was talking about with her mother last night whilst she was watching TV, he’d gotten it. He was in a good mood therefore he would be more likely to buy the book rather than tell her to re-read the other hundred on her bookshelf.
Another time, she’d come home from school on a hot day, ready to convince her mother to let her buy an ice cream from the little shack down the road, when she noticed her mother hunched over some papers on the table, not even lifting her head to greet her. Trouble with the insurance based on the stack of notebooks she knew her mother kept important information in. The empty plate on the counter indicated her father was home and she doubted he had fed himself, most likely arguing with her mother that he was “too busy” to make anything and she’d stopped what she was doing to make food for him so that he would shut up. From just an empty plate and her mother’s posture, Beatrice had managed to figure that out because she knew what the look on her mother’s face meant, she knew what her father was like when he came home from being in the office because she noticed. Unfortunately for both of them, her sister did not notice and argued with their mother about something or other and landed both sisters an early bedtime.
When she was sorted into Slytherin, she knew this skill would help her in life and what better place to develop them?

Shubhangi always had a fascination for mystery and adventure. Through this fascination she developed a keen eye for many things that often go unseen.
There was once a party held at their estate, when Shubhangi was around 10, for her Grandmother turning a year older {her grandmother hates mentioning how old}. Her grandmother, for the thrill of it, decided to have a very sneaky and mysterious game of "Who dun it!". As she had made it to just entertain her grandkids, the games was quite simple. There was a toy hippogriff, the color of gold, with one broken wing, and the other wing with a gold button sewn on it, along with some golden-wrapper candy around it {like spilled blood}. She instructed the kids that the hippogriff had been murdered and that it was up to the kids to bring the hippogriff justice! She instructed the kids that the hints have been scattered in the dinning and the drawing room in the form of chits. The six kids scattered around, all excited about the quest. But soon they realized, there were no chits! The grandmother kept smiling and repeating that there indeed were hints in the form of chits! As the kids kept looking around, Shubhangi noticed that some form of candy, explicitly hand wrapped in a shade on purple wrapper, was at odd places everywhere. She reached out for one, that was tied along with the curtain binds, and unwrapped it. To her surprise, there was a chit inside!
"The chits are in the purple candies!!" Shubhangi waved her wrapper to the others and soon, all the kids had regained the twinkle in their eye!
The turned the rooms upside down, but what seemed difficult to acquire to them, it turned out to be quite too easy for Shubhangi as she had already noticed them sticking out like a sore thumb out of odd places. By the end of it, 22 chits were collected, 15 of which were done by Shubhangi alone!
The 22 chits each had a word on it. The kids arranged in the best way they could and read it out aloud.
"Shiny treasure paws tracks glimmer curious playful mischief snatch accident pounce tiny object grab wing button jewelry frenzy mistake lure sparkle creature".
"The Hippogriff was golden, and it had a shiny button in it wings. So, a thief stole it...but, ended up killing it because the wing broke off?" Shubhangi tried to reason and looked at her grandmother, noticing how the tips of her lips slowly curled up. She was heading in the right direction.
"Someone who loves stealing shiny thing---oh! oh! Its A Niffler! The Niffler killed the Hippogriff by Mistake while stealing the button off it's wings!" Shubhangi exclaimed in Joy.
The kids looked at her in awe, as though how she could make sense of a line that made no sense at all! The grandmother smiled and motioned her wand, and almost immediately there was a cute golden-colored band around her wrist. Her grandmother patted her head and smiled as she announced, "Well, we have out winner!"

As the years have gone by, EmmaLee has become more and more fascinated by transfiguration, and it has quickly become her favorite class. She has been enthralled by the subject ever since her first lesson. For her, Transfiguration is everything that magic is about and one of the main forms of magic that makes it interesting and useful. Transfiguration presents the possibility of being prepared for literally anything, and, as far as she is concerned, there is no limit to what is possible with this section of magic. She could spend hours and hours learning everything she can about transfiguration, and, in fact, she does.
When she isn't practicing music, practicing dueling, or walking her cat outside, EmmaLee can normally be found in the library going through transfiguration books or somewhere on the grounds practicing her spells and even trying to come up with some on her own, however unsuccessful that has been so far. She is interested in every spell, every theory, every law and she finds everything about transfiguration fascinating. Now that she has gone through her second year of school and she knows the ropes, so to speak, EmmaLee has carved out a good schedule for herself where she has an excellent handle on her homework, her cello practice, and her dueling practice. Therefore, the vast majority of her extra study time is spent studying transfiguration in the library, the Hufflepuff common room, or her dorm room.
Something that she is really interested in is its practical and survival application. Having been on many an adventure where she ended up in a sticky situation, she firmly believes that having the ability to change her surroundings to help her situation would have helped a great deal. It is one of the things that most interests her about transfiguration. Of course, other forms of magic would be helpful in that area, too, but transfiguration is by far the most fun.
Over EmmaLee's second year, her desire to immerse herself in the study of transfiguration has even led to the desire to one day become a teacher in it, and in order to become a teacher, she feels that she should know everything she possibly can about it. Because of this desire, drive, and intense interest, she has studied and practiced far beyond her classmates and has dived into the upper years of transfiguration. Hopefully, her knowledge will pay off one day, if not in her career as a teacher, then maybe as a duelist or just a pioneer in transfiguration magic.

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
ReducioIt was interesting, really, how Dori's attraction to other people had changed over time. Especially with the discovery of being bisexual when they were younger. They had even dated vastly different types. Jack Warren then Astrea Soleil Neptune were about as far apart as two aesthetics could get. Although, Dori was extremely young and was also kissed in the middle of the Great Hall by Jack. Young love, sometimes absolutely disgusting.
But the young love that Dori found themselves in now was probably the grossest, sappiest, lovestruck relationship that they had ever been in. There was no doubt that Elsian Cox would be the person that Dori would spend the rest of their life with. At this point, the cosmos itself would have to tear the two apart and even then they didn't doubt they could make it back to each other in some lifetime. Dori would spend every lifetime trying to find him again.
It made everyone else pale in comparison to Elsi's bright light that he brought into their life. Others that had previously caught Dori's eyes swam past them in the halls without a second glance. It wasn't that they couldn't appreciate the human form and call their friends cute and beautiful and mean it. But they simply didn't have the same pull to anyone else's appearance ever since 25 December, 2023. Who knew, that in the end it would be a boy with constantly messy hair and pajamas more often than not that would cast such a spell on the young heartbreaker that Dori had been.
All this to say that they had never been one to especially fawn over looks. Often they fell in love with who people were first, rather than their appearance. They themselves somehow had a certain beauty that seemed to distract others at opportune moments in sports Lovely Creature, but honestly they felt that more came from their confidence than physical beauty anyway. People that others seemed to trip head over heels for (chiseled jawlines and fit bodies, mainly from other schools), Dori stood upright in their presence. Heels firmly on the ground. All that mattered was their soft boy that Dori would do anything for.
Granted, they had only read about part-Veelas. If pressed they wouldn't be able to name any that they knew, but that would require someone to tell Dori that they were a part-Veela. Maybe Elsi was one based on how Dori felt around him, but they had met his family and that felt out of the question. They were content being absolutely and positively enchanted by Elsi and Elsi only, for as long as they could see or until they died. Whichever came first.

Encyclopedia: Chiarezza, Eredità, SublimeAbility: The Cruciatus Curse ─ Crucio
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Crucio. Most likely of Latin influence. A word akin to its first person singular of the present indicative, meaning in translation literally ‘I torment’. The spell that blossomed from this single and insignificant word became an Unforgivable Curse in 1717: its casting became not only highly taboo but also punishable by severe measures in the Wizarding World. 1717, when the young and only centuries-old Chiadovini family had been deep in the Dark Arts themselves as they warred against other pureblood factions that came against them in their zenith of power and influence. 1717, when the use of the Western Waterfront tower of the demesne had been dedicated in use to these practices tasteful and bitter alike, even if it was now crumbling and mostly forgotten today in the present age. But time, as immortal and cruel of a master as it was, even time found itself loathe to fully erase the horrors of history and the shadows of a past which attempted to hide itself even as it cast a long and gnarled claw of a shadow. A shadow that hearkened to the scarred and distorted minds of both caster and victim from within that rotting place.
It was a shadow that lingered not only in its confined place in rotted timbers, rusting chains, and salt-beaten crumbles of stone that laid itself like salt itself in the corners of the circular London Tower-esque turret that faced the direction of the setting sun and moon--a direction as if to illustrate the fading of Hope so akin to the dying of lights in turn--but also in the very souls of the Chiadovini bloodline itself. Like a salivating creature with foaming jaws and a thirst for the flesh and ichor of its own kind, the Chiadovini predator dug desperate claws into whatever it was that was unfortunate enough to be captured by it and made to suffer the throes of madness forced upon it by its heartless counterpart that at times inflicted pain for pleasure and at other times instilled fear as a twisted defense and warning against others that would attempt to defy it.
The Dark Arts were something that was simply in the bones of the lineage, something that went deeper than marrow and seemed to intertwine itself directly with the genetic trait of Sight itself. Nearly all Chiadovini gentlemen from the founding of the family had had at least some level of dabbling in arts that was often considered taboo by the Wizarding World be it in the form of Dark Arts, Blood Magic to include the study of Curses and Maledicti, Dunamancy and Chronomancy and Time Magic, Astrology, Arithmancy and other forms of predicting the future, innovative Potioneering, Enthrallment spells belonging to the realm of Charms, and the art of bodily alterations and Transfiguration of the human body as inspired by Maledicti and Metamorphmagi alike. Every Chiadovini son (and often daughters) had a specialization of some sort in the realm of magic, and they had always tried to push the limits of the taboo to the most extreme ends that they could reasonably conceal or otherwise contain.
In this regard, the Unforgivable Curses were among the most popular among their kind even far after they were deemed as such--much to the outrage and openly vehement and unabashed decry of the Chiadovini's patriarch (and rest of the family) after its decision in that fateful year. To them, knowledge was knowledge and magic was magic--were they not separate from the lower beings that were Muggles? Was not Pure magic made more powerful in Pure veins? It was an infringement on their ability to--in words more tactful than these for the times--quote: "Take their seat above those lesser powers of Impurity and Ungifted, to claim the crown given to the Pureblooded lineages that be, and to squeeze every droplet of potential that any kind of magic would cede to their purposes."
The Chiadovinis, in other words, never ceased their practices despite the hefty condemning of the Unforgivables: instead they defended themselves in the way that many families did so as to preserve face and to change the odds at the table. Claims of "mysterious deaths" in their family among their young men as if brought upon them like a Curse, this had caused them to take "drastic measures" to ensure their lineage's survival against what must simply be "rivaling family operatives". The magic they used to defend themselves was the only kind of magic that they had enough confidence in to use consistently and with the knowledge that the best defense was that of a brilliantly warding warning that while could be infracted most easily by even the most simple would most likely result in pain of their "interrogators' tactics"... or unspeakably worse.
Simply put, Leonardo had a terrifying but perhaps not unexpected knack for the darker aspects of magic. It simply was--like other traits of his and of others of innately magical traits that his family found itself so enamored with studying and experimenting upon--in his blood. The Unforgivables were spells that his father knew, the only one he had failed to totally master being that of the Avada Kedavra. Leonardo had never seen them performed by his father on others, but he was well aware of the effects--and he was well aware of the state of mind the caster had to be in in order to make the casting as... effective as possible.
It was a laughably simple incantation, one that could roll off the tongue as one pointed their wand at their hapless victim. No, it was the state of mind to be used that was the more tricky aspect for those who had even a morsel of meagre good in the darkness of their hearts. The fact that this spell demanded an intent to harm for no reason other than to inflict pain, to cause suffering for the satisfaction similar to that of watching an ant burn beneath the focused light of the sun through a magnifying glass. Though, perhaps that simile was not powerful enough. More powerful similes could be used to describe such a demented state of mind, but they would not be tasteful to the civilized world of today.
Leonardo had become disenfranchised and disenchanted with the world ever since he had been a young lad. Such apathy had only gnawed at his heart most bitterly over the years, creating a cold and often 'empty' presence that caused the innards of others to chill with his mere presence in the vicinity. But, unlike some others, Leonardo had not spited that little piece of hate in him as he perhaps should have. Instead, he had nursed it, nurtured it, tended to its wants and needs as he placed upon himself the burden of stomaching the world that he sought to find his purpose in but had come away with less and less for every attempt. Somehow, he always found it in his ability to blame his father. It was somehow always his father's fault.
Even in death, his father had found a way to ruin him.
More frequently now, and with an ominous portent having been revealed him on his recent birthday, Leonardo found himself murmuring under his breath that dreaded incantation as he turned the wand in his hand. Every time he did, he swore he could feel his heart clenching in his chest and that a certain sensation like a worm chewing through his heart seemed to manifest. He was not frightened of knowledge, not of the sensation or the emotions that accompanied it. They were like lights, made to be turned off and on with the turning of a lamp wick. Brightened, and then dulled.
He had it in him to cast such cursed magic. He knew that much. What he would use this knowledge for, however, appeared to be something that remained to be seen.
