Sorting Ceremony 2021-2022

Just as instructed in her letter, Sophia reported immediately to the great hall. “Welcome, new first-year students, old students, and friends. Friends and family can always help bring the light. Now, let the sorting ceremony begin!” Dumbledore announced.

She admired the Great Hall, never actually having seen it in person before. Just like in the movie, candles floated in the air above them, a great feast was set out on the tables, and the great Dumbledore stood in the front of the room on a raised platform.

The eager children crowded around Professor McGonagall, and she kindly asked them to step back. She unraveled the scroll with the names and unveiled the sorting hat. Everyone oohed and aahed at it, and with that, she began to read the names. “Alyssa Mandorcle,” Professor McGonagall called. She was sorted into Gryffindor. “Dale Jacob,” she called. He was sorted into Slytherin.

Finally, it was Sophia's turn. The hat was placed on her head, and she wished that she would be in any house but Slytherin. She was a hat stall. That means that the hat took over 5 minutes to choose her house. “Gryffindor!” the hat finally announced. Deep down, Sophia was hoping to be in Hufflepuff or even Ravenclaw, but she was still delighted and enthusiastic. She made plenty of friends soon enough, and knew that she would have an amazing seven years at Hogwarts.
Sorting Ceremony 2021-2022
The journey to get here had been long, and yet the boy's journey had barely begun. Everything was all the more weirder, and the stranger and completely... Different. But the didn't mind, not in the slightest, for he lead himself a rather... Unusual life. He seemed as if he felt nothing, he took each step with confidence, but his shoulders said otherwise. His face once again blanketed by his raven black hair with blondes tips. But only one though rolled through his mind, one wish he wouldn't be able to keep, not Slytherin.... Generations of wizards in emerald green hung on his wall, he wanted nothing to do with it. He wanted to be anything but a Slytherin, not hung with the stone faced uptight ones that he once looked up to.
They all walked in and gathered in the place, were he assumed, they all would eat. Lights floated gracefully above them showing the full glory of the pure brilliant room. He stood in the center of the crowd, keeping low profile, which was rather hard due to his tall height and rather unique appearance. He stood put from the crowd, it was gone in a flash as his heart raced. What you may ask? The sorting ceremony.
"Sorting Hat will be placed upon your head. It won't hurt one bit. The Sorting Hat will look into your heart and mind and determine the best place for you: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. As most of you must know, each of those houses possesses their own characteristic, their own values and their own Head of House." He would gesture towards the present four Heads of House, they never seemed to last very long as of late. "Professor Caradoc Browne of House Hufflepuff," he gestured towards a thirty-something year old man. "Professor Marcus Iwasaki of House Ravenclaw," he gestured towards a rather handsome young man . "And the ladies," he motioned towards two young women "Professor Elaine Pendrast of House Gryffindor," a woman with dark hair and usually a serious expression "Professor Hjørdis Jensen of House Slytherin" a woman with a neutral expression and shocking white hair. "The house that will be chosen for you shall represent qualities that are truly present within each of you. Your future house shall be like a second family. You will also be able to gather points and once we reach the end of the year, the house with the most house points shall win the House Championship Cup. What you need to know is the Sorting Hat is never wrong, once you are sorted your House will not change for the duration of your time in Hogwarts."

He tapped his foot as he watched the students be called and sorted with mind splitting clapping. This is a headache on a platter, he thought to himself. Names after names, when he finally heard,
"Thymus Quercus Timerey," Solomon Lear said loud and clearly.
At his name the boy straightened up and walked up, he looked so self-assured, no one knew that his legs were shaking or he felt like he was going to pass out. He tried his best to keep calm, or at least appear like it. Not like the people surrounding him would even be able to glimpse at his feelings due to his covered face. The hat was placed on his head, of course slightly large even though he was tall. He was no match. The boy spoke one word,
"G'day,"
And that was the end of it. The hat mumbled and grumbled, peculiar the boy heard clearly be for the hat yelled and what he yelled was the most horrid thing,
"SLYTHERIN!"
And that was the end of it for him, the rest was a blur, the cheering was distant, he felt like he was pushed away, like he was watching himself mindlessly walk over the table, he didn't eat a morsel. He was out of his head, wake up! He yelled to himself, WAKE UP!

First September 2021

that's it. At last. After all these years dreaming of this mythical castle, here we are finally. My mother had not lied to me about the beauty of the place. I didn't imagine it that big. it is superb. I was going to follow in my mother's footsteps, walk on the same ground as her, practice the same subjects. She had been so proud when I got my acceptance letter to Hogwarts, now I just had to sit on a stool with the Sorting Hat on my head. Frankly, I hope more than anything to end up in Slytherin. It's my mother's house of cunning and charm and pride and I honestly think I have all of those qualities. My mother had made it clear to me that she wanted me in Slytherin. A Ravenclaw at worst, but not a Gryffindor. I just had to hope that the Sorting Hat was on my side. When the director called me, I walked to the stool with my head held high. Slytherin. I only thought of this house. When I sat down and they put the Sorting Hat on my head, I was starting to get a little stressed.
-I see... You are proud and cunning, the perfect qualities for a Slytherin...
Yes, it was good. I relaxed. I no longer fear anything.
-But your determination and your audacity are even more present in you, GRYFFINDOR!
What ? No ! It is not possible why? How? What ? All these questions are swirling around in my head, but I don't let it show. I get up and go to sit at the Gryffindor table. How am I going to tell my mom that? This day which should have been magnificent turned into a nightmare for me.

I will and I can • Gryffindor • First year • 11 years • Diana is always wearing green clothes • I'm Frensh, so sorry for the mistakes !

Katelynn followed the other first year students into the Great Hall. She had already been staring in amazement while she had ridden in those little boats across the Great Lake to the island that held this massive castle she was going to be calling home for the next seven years. She almost couldn’t believe it as she stepped onto the land and walked with the others up the hill. Now that she was in the building, she still stared wide around her. The room was bigger than any room she had ever been in. There were four long tables coloured for each different house in Hogwarts. Katelynn had no clue which table she belonged at, but she figured she was about to find out.

She walked down the middle aisle behind her classmates, well aware that everyone’s eyes were on them. They were the knew kids, the ones that knew nothing about spells or magic or anything. They’d barely even held wands before and now they were being thrown into this new world. In the front of the big room, a row of chairs full of adults stood staring at them. Cause that wasn’t intimidating at all…

Student after student sat on the chair in the middle of the stage and wore the same old-looking hat. What was even more amazing was that the hat actually talked! Katelynn had never seen a talking hat before! Once the hat decided what house the person belonged in, the room was full of cheers and applause and the person went to sit down amongst their new friends. Was it really that easy to make new friends? Katelynn hoped that it was!

When it was her turn, Katelynn walked somewhat nervously up to the chair and sat down. The hat was placed on her head and she inhaled nervously. All of a sudden it hit her. The history of this one hat… how many other witches and wizards had sat under this very hat that had determined their futures? Had the hat ever made a mistake? Katelynn made a mental note to do some research on the hat later…

“Ahh, a very wise and inquisitive child here,” the hat began to speak. “You certainly do love to learn things, and seek wisdom and knowledge in everything you see… Ravenclaw would be lucky to have you… but there is more to you than just this one thing,” the hat observed. “You are also brave too, and maybe have a bit of a mischievous streak about you too… Like to get into a bit of trouble, do you…?”

Katelynn blushed at that, remembering the times she’d ridden her horse off into the great outdoors without telling her parents. How did the hat know? Had there been an invisible hat following her for her whole life, leading to this moment?

“But, you do value friends and family above all else…” the hat went on. “Protecting them to a fault and helping out those in need. Better be… HUFFLEPUFF!”

Katelynn grinned as the whole room cheered. The people at the yellow table cheered the loudest though, and she was welcomed with hugs, claps on the back, and handshakes from almost everyone at the table. She had never felt more welcomed to a school, or more welcomed to a table, in her entire life. Maybe she had finally come home, where she belonged.

Unlike many of her fellow first-years, Lavinia was giddy with excitement. She'd had fun on the Hogwarts express, east8ng a pie with a boy she'd met, and now.... the sorting began.

She felt nothing but curiosity, looking around the room, at the tables, four grand ones, lined with seats, and jam-packed with students, older than her, talking about their summers, or what they were excited for, et cetera.

The headmaster's speech made the girl feel almost warm inside. He reminded her of a grandfather, but also a friend, who was trustworthy. But also, of course, of an educator. He seemed to care a great deal, and as the forting hat was brought up, and the names called, Lavinia felt like she couldn't take her eyes off of the man, curious if maybe he was se3cretly in charge of choosing the houses, and the hat was a trick...

"Lavinia Vinewood, please."

She'd almost missed her name, as she blinked, quickly boucning up the step, and sat on the small stool, trying to smile as widely as possible at all the student staring at her, in anticipation....

The voice inside her head, wasn't her own.

"A self-presented bookwork eh?" the voice spoke, lavinia blinking. Well, it hadn't been the headmaster's voice, so... maybe the hat truly was alive!

"and a curious sort I see.... Wanting to understand the mysteries, and even about an old hat, now resting upton you.... Very well, with that curiosity and third for knowledge, you can only be in...

RAVENCLAW!
"

Life's no fun without a laugh!

As the 11-year-olds filed into the Great Hall, whispers could be heard at all four tables about how funny, adorable, and scared the first years were. In the midst of them, a young girl, in first grade, of course, started to walk forward, looking around her shoulder, seeing all of the faces that were staring at her.

Olivia was wearing her black robes, like everyone around her, and her brown hair was tied in a low ponytail. She walked nervously between the tables full of older students. She could feel her legs shaking. Solomon Lear, an armored clad figure, Headmaster of Hogwarts School, frightened her, but only a little. He reminded her of a certain limping wise old owl that helped her parents with their owlet training.

That made her giggle and she desperately tried to hide it. The Sorting Hat had finished its song and she finally managed to regain her composure.

"Olivia Feather, Olivia Feather!" the professor's voice echoed in her mind.

She blinked a few times, looked around, and quietly and nervously went up onto the stage. When she finally reached the stool she sat and felt the hat being put on her head, and then, she felt it slip to her nose.

"Hmm… nervous I see… " the Hat said in a whisper. Hmm… I can see bravery and intelligence… but there's something else ... quite a bit of cunning…what's funny? Some old owl?... I see... you are Spunky, driven, loyal, brave… Seems like you'd do well in…GRYFFINDOR!"

Clapping and cheering erupt throughout the Great Hall but Olivia stayed still in her seat as if frozen. After a few seconds, she took the hat off her head and stood up.

She was more relaxed now that she had been sorted, but she could feel her heart pounding so hard that it seemed it was trying to get out of her chest.

She walked to the Gryffindor table. where her new mates were bursting in applauses.

Vienna had heard all the stories. She had spent hours reading up on it. But nothing could ever compare to being in the famed Great Hall in person. It was breathtaking, straight out of a dream sequence. Vienna looked around in awe, registering just how amazing it was. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to admire for very long.

Vienna's attention diverted as the man in front of her began to speak. Houses, sorting hat, blah blah blah. Vienna didn't really like speeches. Or rather, she physically didn't have the patience to listen to them. Eh, she got the gist of it. She'd just have to sit in a chair. What instructions could she possibly need?

Her eyes drifted across the Great Hall, staring at little details. Friends chatting, candles floating, a boy spilling a drink all over his table, her cousins sitting at the Slytherin table. They were waiting for her. Once she got sorted she could go join them. If she got sorted into Slytherin that is. Would she? Surely she would, it ran in the family. Why wouldn't she? Of course, because she was different. She wasn't a Goodwin. She had every reason not to be sorted into Slytherin. Vienna's heart started pounding. She hadn't really thought it through before, but what would happen if she didn't get sorted into Slytherin? Would she even be able to show her face at the Goodwin Manor ever again?

"Goodwin, Vienna!"

Oh no.

Vienna gulped, straightening her posture as she made her way up front. Was she shaking? Why was she shaking? She groaned. She would be up there for a quick second, get sorted, and go on with her life. It wasn't hard.

She scurried up the steps, taking a seat on the wooden stool. She blinked, keeping her gaze forward as she tried to avoid the sight of all the students gazing up at her. No, she wasn't afraid of public speaking or crowds or anything like that. Growing up, Vienna was forced to attend parties and socialize and give speeches to her grandmother's friends about etymology just so her grandmother could impress them with how talented her granddaughter was. But this was different. This was a whole school of kids, who honestly, were ten times more judgemental than adults, and the raging number of them didn't help either. It was enough to make a natural orator like Vienna sweat a bit.

The hat was placed on her head, it must've been light, or perhaps Vienna was just a bit zoned out, but she could barely feel it. She almost jumped out of the seat when it began talking.

"Ah, another Goodwin I see. It has been quite some time. I remember sorting your father, aunt, and uncle. But with the arrival of you and your cousins, I see a new generation is coming around," the hat began. "And the Slytherin line is still going strong. I assume you'd like to continue it?"

Vienna nodded. "Yes please," she responded in a low whisper.

"Hm. But perhaps we should consider our choices. I see a sense of creativity. But in you, I also see a deep sense of determination and dedication. Courage is a strong trait as well," the hat pondered.

Vienna bit her lip. Slytherin, she thought to herself. Slytherin or I'll be disowned. She groaned in her head, for it was something she didn't really want to admit out loud.

"Hm. Alright. It is true, your sense of ambition and boldness are clearly your most defining traits. It is clear to me now where you truly belong. SLYTHERIN!" The hat boomed.

Vienna took a breath of relief as she removed the hat and made her way to the Slytherin table. At least that was one thing she didn't mess up.

--- The Slytherin who became a Gryffindor ---
First years had been taken control of directly after having gotten off the Hogwarts Express. They had followed the one in charge towards a bunch of little boats that had sailed off across the Great Lake to the island that held the great castle known as Hogwarts. Kim had let his eyes flicker over the scenery around him and although had remained quiet for the most part, he was quite alert. After all, his curiosity knew no bounds and there was quite a lot to see here.

Unlike a lot of the new students, Kim didn't express surprise or excitement. Not on the outside at least. He was more stoic by nature and preferred to do things independently, keeping to himself for the most part. But at the same time, he had a good heart and wanted to help others. Even if it didn't seem like it at first. The First Years were taken to the Entrance Hall and led towards the Great Hall, where the Sorting Ceremony would eventually take place.

It was obvious there would be instructions.

He took this time to glance around the room, spotting 4 elaborately decorated tables.

Each table had a colorful banner, representing each of the 4 Houses. It was obvious that when a First Year was sorted, they would go and sit down at whatever table their new House was.

The Headmaster of the school introduced himself and then began to speak, explaining how they were to be sorted. Kim already knew that the Sorting Hat was what was going to establish the rest of his 7 years here. His parents had already informed him as to what to expect and had high hopes that he would get into one of their Houses. In fact they'd argued about which of their Houses he'd be placed in when the time came. It was as if there was no other option.

They didn't seem to even consider the fact that he might be placed in a different House. That idea was foreign to them. September 1st, 2021. It was the start of a new term and his favorite time of year, autumn. Kim was sure it was going to be a good year. As the Sorting Hat spoke, there were a variety of reactions from the First Years and knowing looks from the returning students. Although, Kim was a First Year, he wasn't as surprised as many of the others were.

He just wanted to find out what House he would be placed in.

Going from what the Headmaster had said, each student needed to earn their House points.

Well, that was simple enough, he would probably find out soon how to obtain said points by the end of the day. Working towards a common goal was always a good thing.

Kim was sure he would be able to contribute. Attention was drawn to the Sorting Hat as each student was called up to the stool, placed near the podium. The Sorting Ceremony had begun. As the names were called out and students were sorted into their Houses, Kim waited for his turn. When it came, he walked over to the stool and took a seat, his posture still perfect. Not because he wanted to make a good impression but because it was a natural reflex on his part.

After all, his parents had drilled into him that good posture was essential to health later on down the line. Bad posture would result in health conditions later in the future, which was a nuisance. Sure, you could most likely cure them with a spell or something but you would still end up with an annoyance that needed to be addressed. The Sorting Hat hummed in his ear as it was placed on his head. It was hard to tell if the voice was coming from his mind or his ear.

Such a strange feeling.

Hmm, where shall I put you? Let me take a look inside your head.

Kim's brow furrowed. Could this hat really tell what was in his mind? Did it know that he couldn't decide between Slytherin and Gryffindor, due to his parents and their fighting?

Did it know if he were placed in any House other than one of those two, his parents would probably kill him? Not that he was afraid of dying at the hands of his parents, he'd rather have his parents kill him than kill eachother. Of course, not that this would happen, it was just Kim having rather morbid thoughts about worst case scenarios. I sense great confidence, boldness in you. You are also very independent by nature. The Sorting hat replied.

I see that you don't like it when others lack courage in the face of danger. You would stand up to help those less fortunate and fight against injustice. Gryffindor would indeed suit you well. Yes, just like your mother when she was here and placed me on her head. You have a thirst for learning, a great thirst and insatiable curiosity, which would do you well in Ravenclaw. And the Hat fell silent.

I also sense great loyalty in you, if Hogwarts was on fire you would brave the flames to save your friends there, which means Hufflepuff would be a good fit for you too. But I also see that you can be cunning and ambitious and will go to whatever means to achieve your goals. You have the determination to succeed in whatever you do. Yes, those lovely traits would definitely fit well with Slytherin.

And of course, we know that your father did very well in Slytherin.

He was one of Gryffindor's top Chasers, you know.

The Sorting Hat hummed, almost to itself and thought for a few seconds. What House did you think you would end up in? It asked, its tone curious. Kim didn't have to think twice. I was hoping to get into Slytherin or Gryffindor at least. If I get into any of the other Houses, my parents will literally kill me. He confessed to the Hat. As for his goals? He supposed he wanted to make a name for himself and explore the world as a wizard.

But he didn't quite know what he wanted to do for a career. Then again, he had 7 years to figure it out. There was no rush. Hm. Although you have qualities that would do you well in both Houses, I believe you will flourish more in one of them. There aren't many First Years who have made a splash in this House, so better be... The Sorting Hat raised its voice so everyone in the Great Hall could hear it. "GRYFFINDOR!" It yelled.

Kim stood.

He took the hat off his head and gave it back to the witch in charge.

As cheering erupted from the Gryffindor table, Kim headed over to his destination..

Grace waited with the other first years, not really paying attention.
I don't think I could possibly be a Gryffindor, I'm not brave, at least not in the way they are... I couldn't be a Slytherin. I'm not ambitious, am I? And I don't want people to think I'm mean... I could maybe be a Ravenclaw, I like to read and I do well in school, but that's not Hogwarts. Who knows how I'll do here? I must be a Hufflepuff then. That was Mom's house, wasn't it? The kindness and friendship house. Yes, I've got to be a Hufflepuff, I just have to be!
A terrifying thought occurred to her as they often do in situations like this.
Oh, what if I don't belong anywhere, and the hat doesn't say anything? What happens then?

"Asteria, Grace!"
At first her name didn't register, she was so lost in her thoughts and worries. Then it did. Her cheeks turned a pink bright enough that the students at the back of the hall could probably see it as she took her place on the stool.
Oh no. Oh no. Oh no, oh no, oh no! It's not going to find a place for me and I'll have to go home...

A nervous one, eh? Don't worry, I'll find the perfect place for you. said a voice in her ear.
Grace jumped. Was that the hat?
I see quite a bit of intelligence, and a desire to learn. Ravenclaw is a strong option for you. It paused, as if thinking. But there's also plenty of kindness and loyalty, Hufflepuff is an equally good place.
An image of her mother pops into her head. Hufflepuff, like my mom. Hufflepuff, like I've always imagined.

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

The hall fills with applause and cheers, particularly from the Hufflepuff table. Grace beams, relief and happiness washing over her. She takes her place at the Hufflepuff table, happy to belong.

Linh was impatient.
Amazing, for a girl like her.
She was not one of those girls who panicked at the slightest opportunity. No.
Linh was a mature and composed girl. But there... it exceeded all his expectations!
The sorting ceremony in the Great Hall, lit by magnificent candles floating in the vault of the Great Hall...
The first years advanced to a sort of dais where, on a chair, lay an old moth-eaten hat, eaten away by time. Suddenly he began to speak.
Or rather, to sing.
At the end of his song, a man came forward and started calling people to the stage.
When it was Linh's turn, the girl bit her lip. What house was she going to be in?
Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin?

She didn't know. She walked over and sat down on the chair and felt the old hat put on her head.
He then began to enumerate Linh's qualities, his character. His sentences were precise and on target. Linh felt concerned.
Normal, we were talking about her.
Suddenly the hat stopped talking. He was thinking. And there, in a booming voice, he announced the name of Linh's future house:
- Hufflepuff !

Delighted, the new Pouffy allowed her hat to be taken off her head and got up to go to the Hufflepuff table. They welcomed him with open arms. They were all so warm and kind... Linh thought of her older brother who hoped she would go to Ravenclaw, like him.
