-Herbert Springhall, Lindsey’s paternal grandfather, is no longer a illegitimate child. His mother Kristina Lenitt is the second wife of his father David, and the first one, named Lena Corand (her maiden name is Hellman in my current version, but I have decided to change Hellman into her lover’s last name and she’ll adopt that as her last name after she get divorced with David even though she was never married to her lover), is forced to get divorced with David after being discovered having affairs and giving birth to a son for the lover, and is disowned by both the Springhalls and her maiden family, the Corands. She shows hatred to both families since they declared that they would not support her life later on and gave her lover a remarkable sum of money to make him forever leave Lena and their child and emigrate to a foreign country.

-Changes Lindsey’s biological maternal grandmother’s name to Rosie Mecmillan (née Lin), and she is now Verna Linfield (née Lin)’s biological sister, making her both Lindsey’s mother Carolyn’s adoptive mother (same as it is now in my backstory) as well as aunt. Rosie’s first name and maiden name had never been mentioned elsewhere except in my current backstory. Also adding Mecmillan history.

-In my current version Lindsey’s uncle Andre attends Hogwarts also, and this is now changed to him enrolling in Beauxbatons like his mother instead. Andre is also no longer Fitzwilliam’s elder brother, but his twin instead.

-Lindsey’s aunt Yvonne (Andre’s wife) is portrayed as a pureblood, however I would like to change her blood status into muggleborn as I will still be using Les Mis name references for her children and it’s rather impossible for her to do this if she’s a pureblood. I apologise for this, but I was really inexperienced when I joined the site.

-Nathaniel Linfield’s wife Dorothy is now linked with Diana Hellman, being a distant cousin relating through their mother’s bloodline. They knew each other as children, though Dorothy and the rest of her family was unaware of what exactly happened to Diana’s parents.

-The childhood friendship with NPCs Erica Whiteland and Isabella Krison was not in my current version of childhood story, but was mentioned in RP as background information.

-Main storyline (important events, first magic, childhood life, etc.) remains unchanged, though rewritten with better grammar and details.

-Adding the plot which I have been developing and now marked as finished, specifically Lindsey getting to know the past of her family and getting to know her mother’s adoption + the Mecmillan bloodline which was IC unknown to her (and everyone else besides David & Herbert [vaguely] Springhall + Matthew & Verna & Nathaniel [vaguely] Linfield) until summer 2021.

THE SPRINGHALLS

The Springhall family, resided in Yorkshire, England, was an ancient and honourable pureblood family. For generations they attended Hogwarts for education, and their sorts into house Slytherin only came to an end after the young Herbert Springhall enrolled. Herbert, born to David and Kristina (née Lenitt) Springhall, was an only child and heir of the Springhall family. Everything seemed well. Or be it so.

Few people knew the fact that Kristina was actually David’s second partner, while the latter had experienced a divorce. Lena Corand, now known as Lena Hellman, was his ex-wife’s name. Like most marriages happened in the Springhall family before, David and Lena were brought together by their parents. There was an eight-year gap between the couple, David being the elder, and they did not know each other before the marriage was arranged. There wasn’t much love between the two, and they were distant towards each other.

David really didn’t care much regarding the issue of love, but Lena did. No longer able to bear the coldness of this marriage, she ended up having affairs with a muggleborn Metamorphmagus wizard under the last name of Hellman that she had long admired during her school years. The affair was discovered when she got pregnant having Hellman’s child, and both families - the Springhalls and the Corands - were furious. Both the Springhall family and the Corand family disowned her, and David got divorced with her. Even though they both declared that they would not offer Lena any money to support her and her child’s life, the two families did give Hellman a remarkable sum of money to make him leave both Lena and their son forever by emigrating to foreign country and cutting all ties with them.

Knowing that she wasn’t able to do anything, Lena brought up her son Joseph alone. Their days weren’t easy, and this only increased her hatred towards the Springhalls and the Corands. She still changed her last name to Hellman, and few people knew that the Lena Hellman was actually once Lena Corand or Springhall. Joseph inherited his father’s Metamorphmagus genes, and this moved on to his own daughter Diana. The Hellmans lived quietly, until Joseph and his wife were misfired by two Aurors when the latter were carrying out their mission a few years after Lena’s death. The Hellman couple did not pull through and passed away, when Diana decided to revenge her parents.

And now let’s temporarily put the Hellmans aside and go back to the Springhall name. Our readers might not have forgotten the young Herbert who got sorted into house Ravenclaw for the first time in his family. Just like what his sorting had showed, Herbert was rather different from his rest of family members - especially his father. Unlike his family, Herbert was nowhere near the description of a blood purist, and David Springhall’s constant butting-in in every single aspect of his life made the young wizard felt annoyed, not to mention there were too many rules for him to obey.

The rift between them only grew worse after Herbert’s mother Kristina passed away, and finally Herbert decided to temporarily leave this place and visit France for a change. There he met the charming witch Karen de Fostoncy -and fell in love with her. It seemed that Karen was exactly in the same condition, being in a snobby pureblood family and did not share the blood purism views. With difficulty David convinced Karen’s parents - who, though having divergence with their daughter, was not at all interested in having her leave France - with the help of her brother Louis, and retuned to England with his new wife.

His father was shocked and furious seeing Karen - even though she’s from a good family, he had already arranged a marriage for his son. Countless quarrels happened between them, and finally Herbert moved out of the family manor in Yorkshire, cutting all the ties with the Springhalls. He never mentioned them even to his children and grandchildren later on in his life, though he did agree that if he was in need of help then he would turn to his father, who was a much powerful wizard than he was. He did ask for it once, but that’s already years after - and we would explain that later.

THE MECMILLANS

While the Springhalls were known in York, the Mecmillan family sought their own fortune in Hertfordshire. This was a family of scholars - the spirit of the Ravenclaw house ran through their veins. Owning a grand library in their family estate, the family had long been interested in a diverse field of magic, as well as different creatures and their languages. Lester Mecmillan was the family’s only child in his generation, and high expectations were naturally held for the boy. Lester didn’t fail them, excelling in all subjects and proving his identity as a Mecmillan.

Miss Rosie Lin was a pureblood and fellow Ravenclaw like him. Rosie’s family were Chinese immigrants, and Lester knew that this would be his girl as soon as he saw her for the first time, with her silky black hair loosely tied in a bun. Slytherin Matthew Linfield, a few years elder than Lester, had always been a good friend of his back at that time. Matthew was coincidentally yearning for having Rosie’s elder sister Verna as his bride. (Lin and Lindfield. Very nice a match indeed.) The two boys in love both succeeded by the point of their graduation, and the two couples had been keeping in touch and supportive of each other ever since.

Lester and Rosie both entered the Ministry and worked as accomplished Aurors. They were high-spirited and quick in act, never failing a mission. But…everybody made mistakes. Misfiring a random couple while carrying out a mission, they paid expensive medical expenses for the best medical service in order to have the unfortunate couple to recover and get back to normal life. But eventually they did not pull through, leaving a young daughter named Diana behind. Lester and Rosie felt extremely guilty for their neglect and promised to support Diana’s future life later on. But Diana refused. Instead, when she was seven and the Mecmillans came to visit her - they did this every week - she attempted to stab them with a butter knife. Of course the two trained Aurors were able to dodge the attack, but meanwhile they felt rather anxious since Diana told them that they would pay for her parents one day after being controlled. They found that the girl, despite being young at that time, had that so-called flames of hatred burning in her eyes. After a long talk during the night, the couple decided to send their newborn daughter Carolyn to Rosie’s sister Verna (née Lin) Linfield and her husband Matthew secretly, while the two left England and settled down in China, where Verna and Rosie’s maiden family, the Lin family, originated from. Carolyn adopted Linfield as her last name instead of Mecmillan, and her identity of being Lester and Rosie’s daughter was strictly concealed. The young girl regarded herself as the biological daughter of Matthew and Verna, while they did treat her the same as their own son Nathaniel.

Eleven years later, when Carolyn Linfield received her Hogwarts letter, her biological parents were found passed away in their home. Not much was known about the cause of their deaths, but it was believed that their deaths were abnormal. Matthew and Verna Linfield were informed of this being the Mecmillans’ closest relatives, but they kept this as a secret to their niece Carolyn. Or rather daughter, for Carolyn was never aware of her real identity.

THE PARENTS

After moving out from Yorkshire, Herbert and Karen settled down in Kensington, London, residing near a muggle neighbourhood in a house named Serendipity Garden. Herbert worked for the British Ministry as an auror, while Karen, with the love for her own country, became a journalist and traveled often to France for interviews. Two boys - twins specifically - were born, under the name of Andre and Fitzwilliam Springhall. The boys were well-educated by their parents before enrolling in Hogwarts, and were both sorted into Ravenclaw like their father on the welcoming feast. Despite being twins and looked alike the two were different personality wise, Andre more resembling Karen and Fitzwilliam taking after their father. In short, Andre had grasped the true French grace and were as poetic and artistic as the mother, while Fitz preferred sports and could be regarded as a bit blunt. Yet still the boys had a close relationship, and the family lived on happily.

It was in Fitzwilliam’s fifth grade when he started to pay attention to Carolyn Linfield, a girl in his year and a housemate. Carolyn was a quiet student and did well academically, but above all she was very pretty. At least it seemed so to Fitzwilliam - he was a keeper of the house Quidditch team at that time, and was rather popular among students for his easygoing and fun-loving personality. Without thinking further he asked Carolyn out, and finally, she became his wife. Even though they regarded themselves as the happiest of couples after their marriage, the process of their love story was, er, not the smoothest in the world. Initially Fitzwilliam had a girlfriend just for fun and following the trend, but what Carolyn had been considering all the time was marriage and family. They dated, they broke up, they dated again, ending up broking up yet again…But they eventually realised that no other person suited themselves better, while Fitz starting to consider all the marriage and family thing in a solemn way and Carolyn deciding to enjoy her youth with the boy she loved. And so, this was done. From boy and girlfriends straight to husband and wife. Bingo.

Herbert recognised Carolyn’s mother Verna as the sister of an old colleague, the once famous Mrs Mecmillan who left with her husband and never came back. Carolyn and Fitzwilliam were unaware of it, but a secret talk went on the night before their wedding, between their parents - the secret of Carolyn’s real identity was revealed to Herbert, which the latter kept faithfully according to what they’d agreed. The new couple lived with Fitz’s parents in Kensington for approximately a year, when Andre, who had settled himself down in France as a journalist like his mother after graduation, announced that he would be marrying soon. This lucky lady was Yvonne Solaci, a colleague of his, and a beautiful young witch. Her muggle-born identity was never a thing in such an open family, and her charming smile and witty chats were warmly welcomed by the old Springhall couple. With the love of her own home country Karen decided to move and live with her son and daughter-in-law in Paris, while Herbert followed. The Serendipity Garden was only left with Fitzwilliam and Carolyn, the former working for the British Ministry and the latter finding a job in St.Mungos. The Springhall brothers visited each other often though, never losing a single holiday to meet up and have family feasts.

Children of the next generation started buzzing the house one by one, first Enjolras of Andre and Yvonne’s and then Fitzwilliam and Carolyn’s Edmund. Then there came Combeferre, brother by blood of Enjolras’ (grown up as a child of both worlds, Yvonne was a literal Victor Hugo fanatic and this influenced her husband when they were picking names for their kids), and finally little Lindsey, daughter of Fitzwilliam and Carolyn - the youngest and only girl in the family. July 19th, 2008. Her birth was celebrated, and…

A life full of adventurous had started.

THE CHILDHOOD

Born on July 19th, 2008, Lindsey Florence Evanthe Springhall made her very first curious peek at this world. She was a baby surrounded by love since the time she was born, all her family members celebrating her arrival. Being the youngest had the unique charm, with so many elders and brothers surrounding and loving unconditionally. The Springhalls were quite a close unit, travelling to and fro between Paris and London to keep in touch with the family. Some of Lindsey’s earliest memories included having Uncle Andre’s family over for Christmas, and her own parents took her over to France for a nice summer vacation near the sea. Her maternal grandparents would often call or have the children over in their house to take care them when the couple got busy. Lindsey had always got along well with her brother and cousins, the four Springhall kids playing and embarking on adventures together. That were the golden days, indeed.

Fitzwilliam and Carolyn were no pushy parents, but took the children’s education into mind seriously. The Serendipity Garden was a place piled up with books, and they did tutor their kids when they were back from work. Feeling great interested in the muggle education (much thanks to the advertisements from their sister-in-law Yvonne), Fitzwilliam and Carolyn sent Edmund and Lindsey to an elder Squib named Mrs. Meyer living nearby who pursued her career as a muggle teacher before retiring. That would be where Lindsey learnt some of the muggle subjects and met two girls of her age who were also educated by Mrs. Meyer. Half-blood Erica Whiteland lived with her single muggle mother who did not want her daughter to be robbed of the muggle lifestyle, while Isabella Krison was the daughter of two muggle-born parents who valued the culture of the world where they came from a lot. The days with spent Erica and Isabella were one of the favourite ones of Lindsey’s childhood, though unfortunately this did not last long - divorcing with Erica’s father long ago, Erica’s muggle mother had little interest in having her daughter keep in touch with a pureblood kid and decided to move, and Isabella’s family left for Sweden when she turned nine. Departure was always a heartbroken thing. And…it did hurt.

Lindsey’s first instance of magic happened when she was seven. It was Carolyn’s neglect when she accidentally locked her daughter in the reading room and left for work, with nobody else besides Lindsey left in the house. The morning was okay - Lindsey didn’t realise her imprisonment and was doing some reading, until she got hungry and thirsty at noon and decided to go downstairs. The door was locked, and she was trapped. One push, two pushes…nothing happened. The door remained closed. Getting impatient and scared, she gave another push to the door using all her might, and the door opened with the lock falling out. That was when her magic first surfaced.

This was also the year when her uncle on the maternal side disappeared. Nathaniel Linfield was her mother’s big brother and loved her dearly, and nobody had foreseen this - he left the Linfield Manor on a stormy night, leaving his parents, wife Dorothy and nine year old son Perseus at home, not even leaving a note for them, packed his things and clothes alone secretly. He didn’t tell anyone about where he’d go and his detailed plan, but what Lindsey could remember was her uncle knocking the front door and conversing with her parents for about five minutes. “Take care,” was the only thing she heard him saying. Considered dead after a month of going MIA, the Linfields mourned for him. There wasn’t much they could do, seeking for him vainly and failing every time. Life had to go on. So years passed, the children of the next generation going to official magic schools one by one.

And finally, in year 2019, it’s time for Lindsey to start her adventure at Hogwarts.

THE MYSTERY

It all started summer 2020, when her grandparents invited Edmund and her over to the Linfield manor in Sheffield for a fortnight. The old Linfield couple were doing a thorough cleanup of the house, and Lindsey was put into a random bedroom instead of the usual guest room for accommodation. It hadn’t been long before she discovered Nathaniel Linfield’s diary in the room by chance, which talked about his suspicions regarding his wife Dorothy. She wasn’t the same anymore, he wrote, and I didn’t know what had become of her. Dorothy had always been easy and fun-loving in the first few years of their marriage and when their son Perseus was born, but now as everybody could see she utilised every chance to hide from others. Sullen. Creepy. Always the first one to leave. Moving out of Nathaniel’s and occupying another bedroom with the lock on. Never acting like the mistress of the household. There was one day when Dorothy left her door unlocked and he walked into the room, when he saw a totally different blonde woman sitting near the table instead of the redhead he loved. In less than a second though she perceived him and her appearance immediately went back to normal. Nathaniel was forced out of the room, and the last thing he saw was what Dorothy had been writing - the name of Carolyn. The diary lasted for two years, ending the exact year Nathaniel went MIA.

Reading the diary over and over, Lindsey decided to share her discoveries with her elder brother Edmund. After hours and hours of communication, they both agreed that they should seek help from their beloved grandfather Herbert and inquire him about it. Letter written and owl sent, they waited patiently for a reply - and received nothing constructive, let alone all the comfort. What the Springhall siblings did not know was that Herbert did sense danger, and analysed it in depth - the result was, even the honoured wizard wasn’t sure how much he would be able to help. One, he was currently in France. Two, he really didn’t know how powerful he would be, or how powerful the old Linfield couple would be. Suddenly Herbert remembered his father whom he hadn’t been in contact with for years - he had agreed to help his only son whenever he would need help. And so, Herbert came up with a plan.

The first noticing this were their cousins, writing to Edmund and Lindsey about the thing. And it did happen that year, following soon enough. Serendipity Garden sold. Springhall Heights checked in. It was like a dream, from London all the way to Yorkshire, from the new generation of Springhall back to the old generation whom they had never met. Her father’s grandfather, her great-grandfather, David Springhall, aged over ninety, with his secretary Miss Imogen Reans, her squib daughter Lilian, and clerk James Kingsleigh, all of them distant relatives of the Springhalls and companions of the Duke Springhall (Yes, that’s David. He fell in love with the idea of having a fancy title as soon as he heard that there was one, and he obviously wouldn’t admit that this was actually something those muggles would use.) And something worse. The family went under strict restrictions, so that they could be looked after properly by David - Herbert had decided that their was a high chance that the woman would be Diana Hellman and had conversed with the Linfields, who both decided that it would be the best to wait for her identify herself, and his father’s task would be to have his children and grandchildren unharmed when the time came. The days in the Springhall Heights were no happy days for Lindsey and her family, who were used to the merry and careless life of ordinaries. The strict pureblood etiquettes plus the weird, newly established rules made them uncomfortable, and so caused a rocky relationship with the old wizard. But still, life had to go by.

Days going forward until the summer of 2021. Diana Hellman finally decided that it was her time to act as an avenger, when Nathaniel Linfield who went MIA years ago suddenly sent a letter saying that he would be return to the manor. He had left for America, he said, exchanging goods and working as a rather accomplished merchant under a fake name, and, after all these years, had finally realised his cowardice of fleeing and leaving his family when they possibly needed help. Travelling back to Sheffield and deciding to face everything with his family members, Nathaniel would find his parents fighting with his so-called wife, who was exactly in the appearance of what he had seen years ago, a blonde woman he had never known. Three old wizards would be against her, two of them his parents, the other someone he was unaware of, but would be told that it was David Springhall, head of the Springhall family, who came to rescue as soon as he heard of it. The three were at disadvantage, slowed by age as well as managing to protect the young Perseus. They did it, but they fell. The old Linfield couple never opened their eyes again, and David Springhall was not saved by the healers. In the meantime Diana Hellman, severely wounded, was soon taken away and rescued.

After receiving the news, David’s son Herbert, the father-in-law of his sister Carolyn, immediately travelled from France to England. With the long letter his father had in his pocket before joining the fight and his own knowledge, Herbert was able to relate everything to Nathaniel. The Hellman’s grudge against the Springhalls, the Mecmillan family, their neglect. Carolyn’s adoption, the revenge…everything was revealed. Nathaniel then travelled to Yorkshire and brought the news to his sister and her family. It was, no doubt, shocking. Carolyn herself was confined to bed under serious illnesses after hearing about all these, and the doctors advised her to go to somewhere exotic to recuperate. The seaside in Naples was selected, and Lindsey volunteered to accompany her mother.

Studying alone in Italy with her mother’s seldom help, Lindsey thought she would miss out on all her third year, but she actually didn’t - Carolyn was recovering faster than everybody had thought, and when she felt much better, the first thing she did was to persuade her daughter back to the Hogwarts castle. Lindsey followed her advice, as she knew that her mother was right - everything was over, and she could handle it. Or, they could handle it, together as a united family. They must smile upon what life had bestowed, and a promising new life was lying ahead of them.

My current backstory is still in my ency. If anything above does not/cannot work, I am more than willing to change the inappropriate things and have it somehow meet the requirements of index. I can also provide family tree if needed. Thank you!
