Durmstrang NPC
Name: Erik Johnson
Age: 11
School Year: First Second Year
Race: Human
Blood Status: Pure-Blood
Wand: 11 1/2 inches Rosewood with Dragon Heartstring, Unyielding
Appearance: Erik is a handsome fellow, who dresses as nice as possible. He is a Caucasian with black hair and piercing blue eyes. He often is seen with a black formal coat.
Personality: Erik has a bit of an ego problem and is vain at times. Usually, around those of the opposite sex, he acts like quite a gentleman. But when he gets annoyed, he can have quite a temper.
History: Erik was brought up with magic all around him so it was no surprise that when he was 6, he began showing signs of magic. One day, he had gotten into a fight at school and when he came home to vent to his family, a candle suddenly lit all of a sudden. Curious, he walked over to the candle, his anger faded. Once he reached the candle, the flame disappeared, as mysteriously as it had appeared. Curious, he told his parents about this and rejoiced that their son was showing signs of magic. From that day onward, Erik became a different person. He began suppressing most of his tantrums and only focused on making a good image for himself. His family was important in the wizarding community, and Erik did not want to be a burden to them. He truly believing that he was just handsome, and so began his ego. It was not only him who seemed to think so, other students his age would remark on his looks. When Erik was about to turn ten, he hoped that he would get a letter to attend Beauxbatons, just like his mother and father. He even studied a little French! Instead he got the letter to go to Durmstrang, which made sense, since they lived in Finland. At first, Erik was sad that he did not get into his dream school, but then he decided that he would try his best and bring a good name to Durmstrang, just like he had tried to do with his family.

Erik was no doubt a handsome man. He had to be perfect, especially in public. Make one wrong move and his family’s reputation would be tainted. He was brought up learning the power of first impression, he learnt how to captivate others. He strived to look as good as possible, and only wore what would make him look better. Of course, this meant that he got a lot of attention, but Erik did not mind. He needed it anyways, it was only a signal that he was doing his job right. During school, a lot of people would compliment his looks behind his backs, but some where jealous. He got into fights every so often, but usually managed to evade them before things got rough. Getting into fights would only tarnish his reputation. Growing up, he went to a private muggle school, because his parents wanted him to learn the ways of both muggles and magical folks.
A couple of times, some muggle girls asked him out. He was pretty handsome, the best looking in the school if he where to say so himself. He always rejected them, telling them that they just where not good enough. He needed to keep his pure-blood lineage, and even going out with someone without magic could destroy his family’s name. At first, he felt bad about it, but as time went on and he became more and more vain. He began to actually believe that he was to good for them. This caused him to distance himself from the rest of the school. He soon decided he needed to fix his attitude, and become nicer, as he had gotten a lot of complaints about his behavior. He tried his best to be as nice as possible on the inside as well. He began to make friends for the first time in his life, and became even more charming.

A second year (I edited this for you as they start their school at 10), you sometimes hear things. The impending broom race at Hogwarts after the defeat the Quidditch team suffered at Hogwarts has gotten the student body riled. There is a concern for pranking, apparently unlike Durmstrang Hogwarts has a lot of half-breeds. They were not defeated by wizards but rather by freaks.

ReducioEver since I joined this marvelous world of magic, I've been asked one question invariably: Are you part Giant?
'You certainly don't look tall enough to be one.' Some would say. 'How in the world can you lift something that's nearly three fourths your size? Giant blood, surely?' I would only shrug before smiling and turning back to my books. Durmstrang had been more of the common questioners. After all, in Hogwarts, part-giants were more common. I wasn't really questioned much, being only a meek 4'11" when I first entered the school and having grown a whopping 2 inches since I've transferred to Durmstrang.
Really, I owe everything to Maddie. It was only through her efforts and her... ahem... assertive methods of speech that I was ably accepted into this school. Of course, no student would be able to attend if they could not first make it to the school itself. Survival of the fittest, as the motto implied. With this I had no issue. I had learned of the culture ahead of time, before I even considered transferring from the comfortable halls of Hogwarts, though perhaps I should have stayed in the four house's halls for a bit longer, since letters from dearest Piérre informed me of some dramatic events that could have proved helpful for preparing me for the survivalist tendencies with Durmstrang.
Even without preparation, however, (though I should not say that I was completely without preparation, for I have had some experiences with camping, fishing, and some handling with a bow,) I managed quite excellently. Within a week of my first arrival on the banks of the appointed assessment, I had finally made my way to the school itself no worse for wear than a small scar over my right eye; a trophy from an interaction that does not deserve to be mentioned here. Yet, I do not think too much about it now. Piérre is unaffected by it, which I suppose is for the better knowing that it is silent knowledge that Durmstrang shapes its students by borderline militaristic ways.
As to my strength... Well, there is not much that I can truly say about it. I have always been strong. My first Muggle guardians always asked my help picking things up, unloading groceries, pitching or felling tents. Unlike Piérre, it seemed, who received natural agility and a general tendency to be slipperier than an eel. Yin and Yang, I have no doubt.
Ever since settling myself in Durmstrang, I have been studious and uncomplacent, always seeking to improve myself no matter what. As my "Ravenclaw" tendencies proved, I yearned for knowledge, and yet, I still felt that with all my efforts, I was still much stronger than most people I had the pleasure to run into. One of these people was Hans-- Hanzo if he really wants me to call him by his proper name-- who told me about the Quidditch team of Durmstrang. Truth be told, I had not heard much about the team; Hogwarts' four teams being rather empowering and the other magic schools having their means and methods of success. Nevertheless, I decided to join anyways. I had to do something to put my unnatural strength to use, though my form did not seem to imply my strength at all.
Having played with the team for an entire year, I am more confident in my strength, and with the team now heading for the large stage, I am more than excited to prove myself worthy of being a student of Durmstrang, despite my transference from this school that we are now competing against.
May the best team win.
601 wordsYear 2- Perfectionist I (-1 Critical Fail Chance) [NEW]
ReducioMany people consider me to be all brawn and no brains. I desire to prove them wrong. I wish to hybridize my strength and my wisdom, fuse them into one so that I may become an unstoppable opponent, both in the magical and in practical situations. Of course, in Quidditch, there is little to no use for such a prowess, but I am not only aiming to simply be a monkey of brute force for my entire life. I intent to follow a path that I have aspired towards ever since I first went shopping in Diagon Alley.
I desire to become a Wandmaker. I want to create arcane implements and help children like myself, who had been raised by Muggles and had been unaware of the magical world entirely. Perhaps, by having once been in their situation, I can sympathize and closer connect with them and others.
But first, to do that, I will have to master the art of the wand. Certainly, I am too young to practice wordless or Wandless magic altogether, and I am not yet capable of creating or buying a new wand, butt I am conditioned enough with magic that I can begin to refine my ability to cast magic efficiently and effectively. In order to do that, I have to practice meticulously, efficiently, and flawlessly.
I have known myself to be a person desiring perfection, even as impossible as it sounds. I cannot fathom failing, or heaven forbid, a spell backfiring upon me. Even though I could easily take the blow, my pride would not permit it, let alone the embarrassment that the event would monger. Therefore, even at home, I practiced motions and incantation, utilizing a branch instead of a wand to avoid accidental spellcasting. After all, I cannot have my record tarnished by defying the Trace, especially if I am aspiring for such a high cause and job which requires not only raw knowledge, but also a reputation of respect and trust.
One by one, I meticulously practiced and rehearsed spells and incantations. One mistake is all it takes, one mistake, one misstep. My frustration was great, I assure you, but in the end, I did find myself becoming more and more effective, avoiding needless and senseless mistakes, and my effectiveness in casting spells slightly increased. Of course, there is more room for improvement, and I seek to ensure that eventually I not only will become an effective hand to hand fighter and spellmaster, but I will also never make a false move in casting ever again.
Just you wait... Just you wait...

There has been a lot of fuss in the media regarding squibs, purebloods and muggles. Another point of contention for many is half-breeds. Something that Hogwarts is infamous for. There have been some strange happenstances occurring in Durmstrang since they met Hogwarts on the pitch. This sense of unease and paranoia. An interest in the literal (rather than the metaphorical or edgy) darkness. A feeling of being watched or followed. There have been rumors that someone may be starting some trouble in Hogwarts.

Backstory: Athena comes from a huge family, with crazy siblings and even crazier parents. Despite being full blooded wizards, her parents made a point of introducing and raising their kids with muggle culture as well as magic. Their house is a huge, chaotic place. The concept of privacy or sole ownership of an item, typically hairbrushes, is alien. Her older brother was scratched by a werewolf when he was young, and ever since then her family has had to tip toe around him. Once he found and joined the London werewolf pack, things settled down again. Athena stumbled upon videogames during her sixth birthday, and ever since then she’d been hooked. For the next five years of her life, she did her best in muggle school (Which her parents had made all their kids go to before reaching Hogwarts) and then would come home and power up her playstation. Anything from minecraft to racing games, to rpgs. Of course, she was terrible for the first few years, but slowly she started building up her skills.
Personality: Athena tends to get incredibly competitive, particularly when it comes to sports. She is a hothead who after setting a goal, doesn’t steer from it for any reason. Kind of triggerhappy, Athe is nearly suffocatingly protective of those she loves, and will not hesitate to throw hands if you pick on her family. Of course that has never stopped HER from smacking her little brothers over the head. The thought process here is: “No one can beat them up but me”. All in a joking manner, of course she doesn’t actually BEAT THEM UP. Just thought to clarify.
Appearance: Dark skin and hazel eyes, curly hair which tends to puff up because of humidity. To avoid dealing with this, she usually wears a backward baseball cap, or does box braids. Sometimes, she just lets it curl up and fall over her shoulders, especially when she’s stressed and doesn’t have the energy to deal with it. Athe is a huge fan of short shorts and crop top, although you’ll also see her in skinny jeans and ponchos some days.

ReducioGrowing up with two sets of twins was very conducive to learning to keep an eye out for anything not fitting in your surroundings. Over time her ability to evade had truly evolved into a sixth sense for things amiss around her.
While she was only very rarely an active participant in her sibling’s prank wars, there was no one that escaped an property-wide prank war unscathed. Everyone ended up triggering some traps that were either intended for no one in particular or for someone else, nevermind the pranks intended for them. While she wouldn’t deny that it can be fun, and her siblings generally kept from away from humiliating pranks, it was still enough of a hazard that Milena had always tried to avoid it as much as possible. Not that she had been above some nice bout of retaliatory pranks in return.
Still, she had developed her spatial awareness in a sort of skill that warned her if something was not the way it was supposed to be. If furniture had (been) moved, for example, that was always a warning sign. If it felt like the path from door to door seemed longer, it probably meant that someone had done something to the door again – Fyodor had had a phase where he loved to cover the hallway floors in what wasn’t exactly glue: while the floor was slightly sticky-ish, one did not actually stick to it. But it did make walking over it minimally harder.
Or the time Ivan had somehow caught a whole bunch of Black-capped marmots … Fun fact: if your settee cushions are moving, do not sit down on it. So. Yeah. Lesson learned there. She would never again just consider that a trick of the light or something and ignore it without investigating. That had not been a fun evening. But at least Ivan had not gotten away unscathed either – especially not after their parents forced him to carry the – by then irate – marmots back outside. He’d ended up even more scratched up than she did in the end.
Or the time their parents had had enough of the shenanigans and finally decided to get involved and retaliated? If the floor looks like it has a ripple effect – do not trust it. It will lead to your doom – otherwise known as an involuntary bath in what seemed to be river water but probably wasn’t. Not a fun moment when the floor disappeared underneath your feet and drops you into a vat of water below. Still, at least their parents got all five of them at once with that trick.
Not all of her time growing up was as hazardous, there was a lot of down time where their family just enjoyed time together, too, but it certainly helped develop a certain sixth sense.WC: 469

You saw something you should not have. Definitely not. Something is wrong with a few of the students in Durmstrang. They just seem...hollow. Vacant stares and a whispering voice that lacks inflection, they are alive but they are not living. That was not the strange part, despite the fact that they used to be vibrant youngsters, people change. The problem was their lack of a shadow. It sounds crazy and of course it is! Some people do not have a shadow and while you can prove it, it sounds ridiculous to say. As for who? Hard to say, it was nobody that stood out, in fact that was what made them so special, their mundane nature. The way that they blended in with the world around them. The way they lacked that spark anyone with a soul should have.

ReducioMeadows of thick green grass and colourful wildflowers surrounding on all sides, Johannes' earliest memories were fuzzy with time and turned bittersweet with fate, but at the very least he could remember that his adventures tagging along Asriel in the Polish countryside were spent on foot. They went off the worn dirt road by Johann's direction so much that there was no need for bikes or other transportation like the ones he and his German peers became so fond of. A naturally fast kid with the speed that let him take the lead in the first half of every race, he used to pride himself more in bursts of speed than the very bad endurance that kept Asriel on top in the long run.
When he had been shipped off to Germany and placed into a different school at 8, he'd already been well-acquainted with the air under his feet and tough bark against his skin, the impact of ground meeting leather soles and the seasons nipping at his back. His departure from the golden fields to the concrete city of Frankfurt signified a shift from the free carelessness conveyed in the backfields of the Polish countryside to the peculiar combination of proper pureblood etiquette placed alongside modern society.
The next year was the first time he'd been on a proper broom by himself, zooming through the azure sky in circles around his grandfather as Alexander Manfred looked up from below, standing in the middle of a pretty green meadow that mirrored the Polish countryside he had just left. A few weeks after that, the Olympics had shown live on the television. Passing by an electronics shop was the only reason why he had even seen it, the screen protected behind glass windows as people flipped and jumped in competition, a crowd formed around it. Johannes had promptly begged his grandfather into taking afterschool gymnastics classes.
Okay, wait a second. That's enough prose-y rambling about the past. We're talking about the now- talking less about the wholesome slice of his life turned foul. The present. The last month of summer and the beginning of the new year. As much as a straight shot Johannes was turning out to be, it seemed that wandwork wasn't his forte. Especially when it came to funny things like duelling- summer camp was only an embarrassing tipping point to an already subpar area. He wasn't bad at aim or anything- years of messing around and finetuning his motor skills to give him some edge negated any such thought- but it was if everything in the universe collided to give him the worst hand of cards. Sometimes it was the sun, sometimes it was the heat, most of the time it was his wand freaking out on him. He used magic often for the little things- pranks and practicalities- but it seemed that the instrument felt more like a pacifist's tool in the barest of concepts. What a disappointing thought, but something that just had to be accepted.
It didn't matter anyway. Duelling involved standing on guard, but standing guarded still as a mother tree. Advance, defend- it was both the same in keeping rooted. Johannes was not the pinnacle of steadiness. He could hold his own and attack back like any other, but to so in the open, without cover or chance of escape? That would not do. He lived and breathed in the split second of the quickdraw, the wind stinging at his eyes as it rushed over him, the feeling of freedom in his bones tempered by danger and adrenaline.
The last month after summer camp and the first of the new year, he started to train just a bit harder than usual. Not for pure strength like some of the more intimidating tanks of Durmstrang, not for magic- his roughened knuckles and scraped palms could not match up to the pretty hands soft with physical idleness- but for speed and agility. If he won't stand to bear the blows head-on, if he could not fire back jets of power from the pool of magic in his veins, then maybe he could attempt to avoid them altogether. Avoid them and hit back hard when they wouldn't see him coming.
During his last month of summer in Germany, he researched and executed heavily the very basics of parkour to get around quicker between his paperboy job, errands, and his free time without a bike. The thrill of leaping and flipping through the air combined his affinity for gymnastics with the rush of constant motion, a light dollop of danger and flair atop the finest cake. He questioned his gymnastic coaches on how to keep limber "at boarding school"- easy cop-out, and it wasn't wrong- and took diligent notes to take with him back to Durmstrang.
There was a feral need to capture that feeling and prolong it- and if he could combine the muggle-type nature to the wizarding world that his ancestors buried? Well, that just made the deal all the sweeter. His first day back to Durmstrang after classes, he picked up a school broom and sought out the flying and racing instructors, promoting some of the racers in his group up the ranks to learn a bit from them. His reputation preceded him and rumours started up- soon he had to shoulder past sceptics whispering in contemplation at whatever trick he was planning- but he would not budge in his mission. Things were going to look up, he was sure of it. If not, well. He was going to take fate in fist and make it.[WC: 938]◌────────────────────────────◌Status: Approved
A little bit of social unrest never hurt anybody? No, it really really has. There has been some contention as of late, particularly in her school. For years there has been mentions in the media regarding tensions between these two groups. What is of more interesting note is that there is a club forming, a sort of half-breed advocacy group in Durmstrang. There are no half-breeds (as far as anyone is aware) in the school, but there are some students who feel that we should be admitting them for the sake of 'inclusion' which has become a hot-topic for some students. No club has actually formed yet but there is something in the makings, you have heard a few people that share your sleeping quarters mention it but they clammed up as soon as they noticed you standing there.

Application:ReducioCielle always managed to get out of the way in time. When she played tag as a child, she always won, managing to dodge the outstretched hand with ease. Her friends wondered how she did it. Cielle was taller and faster, of course, so luck was on her side anyway - but even when they did catch up to her, the agile Cielle still managed to avoid getting tagged. When she was older, she began to challenge the older children and often fought with them - sometimes playfully, other times not. Cielle was strong, but they were stronger... and yet, she still managed to get out unscathed most of the time. Their punches always seemed to miss and connect with air rather than Cielle, which the young girl found rather amusing at times.
Her luck and agility also aided her in her pranks. Cielle's mischief-making has often resulted in an adult chasing after her with a frying pan in their hands, threatening to tell her parents (not that it would have done much, anyway. Carmen and Filip often turned a blind eye when it came to Cielle and her wild adventures.) The trapeze artist would only laugh in response and weave in and out of the caravans, even mocking the adults with sarcastic comments as they stumbled their way around the campsite to her. When they finally gave up chasing her and threw the frying pan, Cielle simply ducked or stepped to the side, watching it fly past her with a grin before leaping away to rejoin her friends and prank someone else.
It helped at Durmstrang, too. Cielle disliked Quidditch (she might have made a good Beater with her strength, but she didn't do well with team sports, especially when she wasn't the leader), but there was also Broom Racing, and that was where Cielle shone. It was perfect for her independant, competitive nature, a sport where it was every man for himself. That wasn't to say it was easy for her either. Sometimes the other racers would cast spells at her, hoping to knock her off her broom or into someone else, and Cielle was hopeless with magic, so it wasn't like she could defend herself either. She used her quick reflexes to her advantage - it was either get hit with a spell and lose, or dodge it and win.
Whether it was instinct or pure luck, Cielle didn't care. As long as she could win.Word Count: 409

There has always been a sense of pureblood supremacy. No shocker there. There have been movements to be more inclusive with muggleborns, half-breeds and even squibs. "Too far" most purebloods claimed. Several pureblood parents have threatened to withdraw their children if the administration bent on what has made Durmstrang proud and excellent for so any years.

Not every lost soul is a diamond in the rough or needs some guiding and some have strayed so far from the path that just by looking at them you can feel that something is off. The same applies for Niche and while the boy has a handful of people he considers his allies there are even less that he would actually trust. About the only person to receive his trust would be his sister and no matter how much their opinions differ they both have their back.
But Niche is not easy, he is far more difficult than one could assume, far more dangerous and ruthless than one would expect. Niche truly has some unresolved anger issues and they do not mix well with his cocky attitude and ego. He easily assumes to be in the right and would not stand anyone who defies him. He is ruthless in his ways and will cast one nasty curse after the other if he has the chance with little to no regret. He is someone who has a goal in mind and will do what he can achieve it no matter what, even if he has to betray people to do so because after all it would all be for the greater good, at least in the good that he believes in. His cause will often fail to justify his actions but he strides with pride and continues his path. He can be quite dangerous and scary and has build up a reputation that will cause people to duck out of the way just to avoid his wrath. Even those who do not know him yet, often just sense that there must be something off about him. His demeanor is cold and his glare calculating and piercing as if he is stalking prey and just constantly weighing his chances.
It makes for such a huge different when he is around his sister, because even though he still seems scary for onlookers, there is no way he would ever bring his sister into harms way and he receives his sister's support almost unconditionally. She might not agree with him but she knows the old Niche and knows that he has a good heart under that freezing shell he had build up over the years. Niche has changed a lot since they were children and while their path might not align anymore they still walk them together.

Just to clarify about the Terrible Presence ability though, it cannot be "turned off" around his sister so it would still affect her - even if he cares for her. It's active always.
You should keep a better eye on your little sister. She has a stalker or someone that is interested in her more than they should be. She has no idea what you saw, you might have even scared him/it off. Someone was going through her things. You never saw who or have any idea why. But there was one incident back at home where you heard noises coming from her room but she was not there. If you went in to investigate or scare them off, you would find nothing. Nobody. However all of the drawers were open. The closet also.

@Thea Knott -- a reminder that you had edits that were needed here. While apps are open, do you want to complete this?
There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.
