Name: Amaya Akelia Haddock
Nickname: Maya
Age: 15
School Year: 5th Year
House: Pukwudgie
Race: Human
Blood Status: Muggle-Born
Appearance: Amaya was born with the same curly hair she possesses today as a descendant of two Native Americans. She keeps it short and messy to distract others from looking at her skin. Skin and makeup have always been one of her biggest insecurities. Unlike many other people, she doesn't mind concealing the 'blemishes' on her nose with makeup and constantly has cosmetics on her. She weighs around 59 kilograms (130 lbs) and usually keeps her wardrobe limited to flannel, faded camo, and ripped jeans, occasionally breaking out into a casual dress.
Personality: Amaya is a sharp-tongued teenager who often avoids loud and flamboyant people. She won't hesitate to tell you the truth even if it means hurting others in the process, it's better to tell the truth rather than to get in trouble for the lie later on. She prefers to work with other people instead of herself, it simply seems easier to copy off answers rather than to figure it out herself. Because of this, she doesn't attain the best of grades.

Maya is a hopeless romantic, almost like Cupid. Matchmaking is one of her favorite ways to pass time through class; daydreaming and fantasizing about her perfect match. It always ended in no one currently in the school, but she refused to believe so. Mock her for doing this, however, and she will make sure to prove it's not a waste of time, but rather a time to spend time.

She has been prone to building up her anger from time to time when things get overwhelming, and that doesn't happen often. It takes something more than a simple failing grade to stress her out; Maya's a really relaxed person. Although she doesn't let it out on others, she owns chapstick for a reason. Chewing away at lip throughout the day for those 'stressing' days, she dodges crowds and heads straight to bed to call it a day.
History: Amaya Haddock was born on November 6th, 2003 on a chilly day in Hibbing, Minnesota to Ebony Moore and Theodore Haddock, two unmarried, stubborn Native American. Her parents never into getting married despite spending their lives together for nearly ten years. At the age of three, her mother left Theodore to start a family of her own, taking Maya with her.

Soon she learned Ebony made up the lie to get away from her husband and the rural neighborhood in which he lived in. Living in the big city of Minneapolis, she often went out shopping or over friends' homes to listen to them chat about their lives. Whenever free time occurred, it was always at school; at recreational time or electives, she would sit back and watch the jocks play kickball as she cheered along the sidelines with her friends.

It was not until the age of nine she found out her magic abilities. So she wanted to show off a little in kickball? She had kicked the red rubbery ball hundreds of times, but before she had the chance to do the small baby she always did, the ball soared out of the park and it was a designated homerun. Anyone smart enough would be able to know the ball never came in contact with her foot, however, nine-year-olds didn't really pay attention to right and wrong.

Ilvermorny quickly became one of her favorite places. Magic made her lazy and the memories of her father slowly faded away until nothing but the sound of his voice and old pictures remained in Maya's life. Theo and his daughter still talked frequently, despite living hours away from each other. It had been about three years since her last visit, but she keeps her thoughts about him to herself, unaware if her parents still communicate with each other.

Being separated from your father has made it easier for the school to hide you are a witch from him. As for your mother, perhaps a bit harder when you go home. If you go home. Your parents would know that you go to Ilvermorny, that it is a school for "special" students and that they did not have to pay a red cent to send you there. What they would not know, even if someone had told them in front of you, is that you're a witch. What you also do not know is that the letters you send your father have been read and potentially tampered with, obscuring your magical abilities and this part of your life. As for letters from your father, likely mostly untouched but still reviewed. Sometimes things get through, sometimes things need to be forgotten.

Around the time of the year when you would be heading home (spring and summer holiday for instance) you would see a plethora of opportunities. A chance to visiting another wizarding school. A chance to get some extra flying lessons, a trip to a magical community, etc. The 'cultural enrichment' opportunities at the school are vast and seemingly endless. When you do make it back at home, you might notice a bit of distance in your parent or at the very least gaps in their recollection of who and what you are. A strange phenomena if not a bit sad.

Name: Simon Belanger
Age: 14
School Year: 4th
House: Pukwudgie
Race: Human
Blood Status: Muggle-born

Appearance: Despite standing at an impressive 5'10" and still growing, Simon is a scrawny, awkward-looking teen. He can never make his hair stand down, his clothes somehow always end up looking mussed, and he often trips over his own feet due to not yet being used to his height. With dark hair and dark eyes, he doesn't really have any defining features and would describe himself as a 'fairly average Joe,' which suits him just fine since he can get away with pranks if he doesn't have a memorable face.

Personality: If there was one thing Simon's upbringing taught him, it was that the wise words of Bear Grylls are words to live by: Improvise. Adapt. Overcome. Maybe not the part about drinking your own piss, but the rest of it for sure. To keep his sanity in the dangerous, crazy household he lived in, there was only thing he could do: develop the ultimate sense of humour.

Sarcasm, subtly offensive facial expressions, pranks to annoy the hell out of everyone he meets... He has it all. He's smart enough to come up with some pretty elaborate practical jokes, but unfortunately he's usually too busy goofing off in class for his brains to get him anywhere. His only saving grace comes from the fact that he's able to deliver sincere, convoluted apologies that often make people confused enough that their anger dies off by the time they're going to decide his punishment for his latest prank.

Deep down, he's a nice guy. Sometimes on the surface, too - he sticks up for 'losers,' would never do a prank that would genuinely hurt someone, and doesn't like seeing people left out. If you manage to catch him alone when he's not with his group of jokesters, you'd also find that he has the capacity to not act like an immature arse. Sure, if his antics led to a physical fight he'd be the first one to go running the other way, but he'd try to drag his friends with him so they got out of the situation as well.

History: Picture this: a nice, quiet Canadian farm that sells Jersey cow milk and chicken eggs at a premium price. There's a nice little hockey rink in the back field, a Border Collie named Lucky to help herd cows, and that one goddamn rooster that crows every day at five in the morning. It's annoying as hell, but at least it wakes you up in time to get your farm chores done before you run off to school to toss a freezing baseball across the yard with your friends and then get dragged by said friends to the senior girls' picnic bench to try to glean the secrets of women.

Sounds pretty nice, right? It would be. If you didn't already know the secrets of women (that they're all insane), have to get picked up by a souped up Porsche at the end of school (it'll be a different jackass  and different car driving next week because Alexis will get bored), and come home only to spend your time dodging makeovers, dress-up, and the age old question of 'Do you think this looks cute?' (it doesn't, Mandy, but you'd better not say that).

In short, life would've been infinitely better for Simon Belanger if he wasn't the youngest sibling of six girls. Whoever had told Carla Belanger that she should 'keep trying until you have a boy!' deserved to die painfully and choking on those words.

Growing up was mostly an exercise in learning where not to be at what times. Simon spent the first few sentient years of his life trying to stick with his father until he learned that the man was a total pushover who agreed with the age-old adage that a happy wife was a happy life. Since there was no way in hell Simon was going to treat his sisters with the respect and mindfulness his mother was always preaching about, he developed an intimate relationship with avoidance and the fine art of annoying the hell out of his sisters so they left him alone.

School became his refuge to get out of a house where screaming matches over the bathroom were common, and he decided from day one to be a trouble-making unpopular kid to combat his sisters' statuses as goddesses of the school. It had the advantages of being really fun and also annoying his sisters even more, since they claimed he was cute and could, like, totally be friends with the sports crew of elementary school.

Yeah, not happening. What was happening as he grew older, apparently, was magic. No, not that kind; puberty is a forbidden subject for a boy in a household of girls. Real, true magic, like Violet waking up with green hair for a week after she accidentally broke his model airplane, then laughed instead of apologized when he cried got upset. At first the girls blamed it on his natural pranking tendencies, but after seeing a hamburger floating across the yard to the bushes he'd been hiding in to avoid being put in a dress, they had to believe.

There was a lot of arguing about where it came from and the consequences, but when the letter from Ilvermorny came in they realized that there was a whole world out there no one had known about. Impressively, they didn't tell anyone. Even when Simon ran around the house screaming triumphantly that he'd be able to leave the nuthouse for almost an entire year.

It's been four years since then, and life is going swimmingly well (besides Simon's grades, though he hasn't failed...yet). Learning magic is the best thing that's ever happened, and Simon can't wait until he's old enough to use it for pranks out in the Muggle world. He really hasn't matured since then, but there's no need for that just now. The only thing is that sometimes the school feels a little quiet without the shrieking of six girls and the hundreds of annoying hair-ruffles he gets every time he's eating breakfast at home.

Don't tell his sisters that, though.
Accepted

It would be astonishing to have magic spontaneously appear in a muggle family because "magic is like totally not like... real" but it totes is. There would have been quite a bit of hub bub about those weird happenstances, the letter a confirmation. Well, a leap in logic because he was being admitted to a "special school" for "special children" such as him.

Once he left, mentions of what made him different was never really communicated... because it was forgotten. His sisters, likely an unchanging presence and deterrent. As far as they truly know, he was sent to an art school of some sort. Considering his trickster nature, strange unexplained happenstances can be attributed to deviant nature (and often is). It is a lot of work hiding a student's wizard-nature from their family, kids being rebellious (and a bit dumb) they are not in on the ruse, not yet in any case. Yet many students by this point are starting to catch on or misappropriate their distance on their wizarding heritage.

When it is time to go back home, opportunities spring up for students. Well, the muggle-borns and half-muggle that is... opportunities to be cultured. Trips to wizard places their muggle parents would never know about or be able to access. Chances to learn about the fantastic nature of their world.

Name: Genevieve Davis
Age: 13
Year: 3rd
Race: Human
Blood Status: Muggleborn
House: Wampus
Appearance:
Genevieve, or Evie, has a lean frame and is roughly 5'4 and most likely reaching her overall height for the rest of her years. She often dyes her long blonde hair various shades of purple but tends to keep to a violet hue. She is rarely seen without her dark black and purple eyeliner, blue eyeshadow, and wingtip liner. Makeup is something she enjoys and uses to express herself or mood.

She has sharper features and tends to have a resting 'bored' or annoyed look to her face. Pale skin with a small freckle type birthmark on her right cheek just under her eye, a sort of beauty mark. Genevieve's eyes are a swirl of blues and greens handed down from her mother.

As for her wardrobe it is mainly dark colors, blacks and grays. Limited bright colors ever are a part of the ensemble. Mainly she loves to stick to violet and blue shades of clothing. Often torn black jeans, netted stockings, usually described as a more standard "goth" look that people would give her a hard time about. Especially her parents who tend to be a bit more conservative.

Personality
Evie has a harsher personality to resound with her appearance. She is quick witted and quick tempered. Lots of snarky comments and sarcasm drip from her mouth more often than not. She tried to curb her attitude but also having to fight her siblings for attention has learned to become more outspoken and go after the things she wants, making her a rather direct person. Not one for a high patience or tolerance of others, especially anything she finds childish. Trying to almost be more mature than her age implies.

Privately she does have a tender side that cares deeply for those she loves like her parents, eldest brother and her childhood friend, Delia. Unfortunately, losing Lia when her family moved, made Evie become more secluded so she has learned to do anything and everything she needed to by herself. It may come off as her being controlling yet it's mainly due to her merely being used to having to do for herself since others never have. She does long for connection with others though but will never admit to it. This has led to a lot of lashing out instead of just trying to fit in.

History
Genevieve was born during a nasty winter storm on January 15th 2006. Her parents almost having to deliver her in the car on the side of the interstate. What a sight that would have been. Since then nothing has been standard about the girl's life. Living in a hectic household of 8 children, her being the third youngest, and two loving parents. Lots of love and almost smothering from her family, Evie would never admit to enjoying it once she hit the age of 8.. until she out of all her siblings began to show strange outbursts of unexplained abilities. This made her younger siblings excited but older siblings and most of all her parents very concerned. They were used to stability and a constant. Evie being... irregular added almost an unwelcomed flavor to the Davis family. Thankfully she had her friend, Delia Finch, the only one who understood and accepted her. The two were inseparable and she formed a bond with the girl that became an immense part of Evie's being. At home she still continued to be the one her parents used as an example of 'how not to be' to her other siblings. Constantly nagged, berated for her interests, being an outcast and not involved in typical girly or school activities and functions, anything her parents found unusual. They may have meant it out of love and worry she wasnt fitting it however to Evie it made her want to stand out more and rebel. Feeling misunderstood by her parents, especially her mother made her bottle up her emotions resulting in snide responses and quips to her parents or others. The only time they approved of her was when Delia was around, seeing her as the one to set Evie straight, be the good influence.

When Delia moved, Evie's home life shifted and she became the black sheep of the family... now she struggles to accept herself while her family learn to 'deal' with her. The only place she found solace was at Illvermony...

The first year there had been a struggle to adjust especially with all things magic. Her attitude was little help and she ended up rather estranged from her peers. Second year she was reunited with her long lost othe half so to speak, Delia which made her transition to this new life much easier. Third year she began to turn over a new leaf in her studies and improve compared to the past two being stressed or caught up in rivalries of sorts with others instead of focusing on studies.
Approved

It is easy to sever ties that were already strained. A bit of forgetting (feel free to look up at some of the notes above) and a bit of nature and teenage angst. The bits about her magic would rarely surface in conversation, her school referenced as that "special school" and while she could return there were many appealing opportunities to stay at the school - trips to other magical areas, cultural opportunities, better options where she can spend time away from those people and be with peers.

Name| Evanore Fairclay
Age| 15
Year| 4th
Race| Human
Blood-Status| Muggleborn
House| Thunderbird
Appearance|
Reducio
Evanore is a relatively average sized girl, a thin frame, and reaching 5’7 in height. Her hair falls in a golden brown colour, and she likes to keep it at a medium length, and rarely wears it tied up. If she does need to keep it at bay, she’d rather put it in a couple loose braids. Evanore’s eyes are blue-grey, which she inherited from her father. Her face is usually a clean slate, but on formal occasions she might wear some very light, natural makeup.
Her style in clothes is very relaxed. Jeans, baggy shirts, t-shirts, sneakers and beanies when it’s cold.

Personality|
Reducio
Evanore is a kind, caring girl. Who likes keeping everyone happy, sometimes on a lot of her own expence. She enjoys talking to others, meeting new people, and making connections with those around her. She is not afraid of standing up for herself and those she cares about, while always being good at keeping her cool. She’s always seen with a tall, straight back and a proud positure.
Evanore is on the tougher side, some would perhaps call her a tomboy, though she never really liked that too much, really she sees herself more as a nerd or geeky type, as her interests lay k those territories.
She likes to make people feel like she is approachable, and her face is most often in some form of a soft smile.

History|
Reducio
A peaceful, loving and happy home was where Evanore had her upbringing. She was born during the year of 2003 on the 21. of December. She is an only child, but grew up living around her 4 cousins. Her family owned a nice big house out on the countryside, and they never really had any issues during their lives. This however, has in no way made Evanore snobby or self centered, as many had assumed of her before.

Her mother was always a little bit obsessed over keeping the family’s reputation up. She had no intention if letting Evanore step outside of the house in ripped jeans and a t-shirt, for that was not how ladies dressed. Sure, her mother was loving, caring, and made sure Evanore had whatever she needed, but Evanore didn’t always agree with her opinions and values.
Evanore’s father, was more open to letting her be and do what she felt was right. Still, he would always take her mothers side if an argument ever occured.
Perhaps her parents simply wanted to protect Evanore, but just had strange ways of doing it. Evanore never felt like she needed her parents, they never did anything but pull her back. They never really let her be her, and she definitely didn’t need their protection. She could very well take care of herself.
So she would often trick her parents, lie, break their rules and ignore their warnings. At the end of the day, she was never punished for any of these things, for her parents couldn’t bare to carry out consequences.

When Evanore’s magic first surfaced, her parents seemed to change. It was strange, and their behaviour around her switched, and became so different from before. It was like they were, afraid. Or at least intimidated, nervous or anxious.
Her mother was always afraid others would notice, and again, began to fear their family’s reputation if anyone was to know that Evanore was different. They stopped bringing her to gatherings, never let her leave the house by herslef, they kept her under close watch, though still keeping up the loving caring parent role. Evanore began wondering if that was all it was, a role? An act? She could swear she she’d seen the mask slip for a milisecond every once in a while.

This weird, frightened and nervous look her parents has on Evanore has made her desperate to keep others around her from feeling that way too. This is why she tries her best to stay positive, friendly, approachable and welcoming.

Approved

The parents remain distant, nervous even but they never utter the word "magic" or wizard. Merlin knows what fearful thing replaced that. Their reaction to magic not being the 'best' and the god-honest truth, likely reduced her desire to share about her time in Ilvermorny. As for her family, they would just call it that "school for special kids" with perhaps even a tone of pride, something worthy of status and a means to keep her from embarrassing the family. Some things were forcibly forgotten

On top of that, there are just so many reasons to not go home. Extra credit opportunities, trips and cultural opportunities. She would get to see and do things that her muggle family, who would never understand (or probably want to) in the magical word with "her kind."

Year 1 Ability: Charmer
Reducio
If there was one thing that Evanore had developed through her life, other than trying desperately to see the world in an optimistic way, it would be her charisma. Oh yes, through many years of constantly getting herself out of unwanted situations through talking her way out, she had developed quite the skill for conversing with others.
The first moment when she had realised that the power of charm can be quite the tool to have in ones toolbox, was when she was quite young. It was a school day, and her entire class had an assignment due that specific day. Though, Evanore had not finished her essay, in fact, she hadn’t even had the motivation to start writing it. Her teacher asked for the students work. Evanore stepped up to his desk and somehow, through the power of charm, managed to talk her way out of having to do the assignment at all. No punishment or consequences whatsoever, there was simply something so charming about this girl.

After that she figured out that getting what you want, or getting out of something you don’t want, is and easy task if you just know how to distract and charm people. It could even seem like mind control at times, but of course there was nothing magical to it, simply a skill that she had gained.
She used her conversational skills more and more, and she found them more and more useful. At some point, it became not only her speech that would charm even the grumpiest old man, but simply her presence could be distracting. Her ability to adapt her posture and mannerisms to better achieve what she wanted from different people became quite trained. She learned how to speak to certain people to make them like her and be more willing to give her what she was after.
Though, her skills were not only used to gain things or favours, sometimes they were used as distractions. Managing to use her charm in a very inconspicuous manner and being careful not to ever raise suspicion that it was an act. It wasn’t really ever an act, she was always genuinely charming and charismatic.
She’d help her friends get away from being grounded by their parents, and help keep people distracted while others snuck out after curfew.

As she got older, this skill continued to grow as well. Some good charisma and a charming smile is something one can benefit from though one's entire life. And Evanore was sure to discover just how useful this could be in the future.

Year 2 Ability: Fearless
Reducio
Many believe no one can truly be immune to feel any fear in their life, but some people can get truly close. Even if everyone’s afraid of something, some people just learn to deal with it better than others. Some realize that fear is just a feeling, and it doesn’t have to affect how you act and what you do. It’s a warning mechanism of something sure, and that something can sometimes be dangerous, but if you give into the feeling of fear, dealing with that danger can become difficult.
Evanore Fairclay was just a normal human being. She has fears and worries, but herself has never been affected by them to the extent as many others. Through her life she has discovered that she won’t let fear rule her life. She's not afraid of some excitement and danger, if anything, she sometimes even seeks it out, goes toward whatever is scary. What feeling is better than overcoming something that makes chills run down your spine with fear?
Though with Evanore, at some point after spending a lot of time working against the instinct of running away from some terrifying thing, the instincts themselves began to weaken. Perhaps it was simply that common sense had left her being, though it didn't’ cause her much trouble. It wasn’t often one faced actually dangerous situations anyway.

It would be almost impossible to definitely point out when or why her lack of fear was caused. She was always naturally resentful to the whole concept of fear, but one couldn't say she was born fearless. Her ability to keep fears instinct at bay was learned and kept on getting easier and easier as the years passed.

Though, of course fear can appear in even the simplest of situations. Some of your classmates might have been too scared to stand up to someone bullying another classmate. Evanore on the other side, had no fears in that case either. Talking to people, using her voice, standing up to someone, whatever it was, she had no fears keeping her away from doing whatever she felt was right.

Unlike what some might think, Evanores logic never disappeared, even if her sense of fear pretty much did. Up till now, her lack of fear instinct has not caused her to make any idiotic or all around stupid decisions, but she wouldn’t be afraid to do so, if the situation asked for it. Let’s just say she’s found a nice middle ground of where fear can not restrict her in any way, though, she is still smart enough to know where it should, and take that into consideration.

Name: Hunter William Reyes
Age:14
Year: 4th
Race: Human
Blood Status: Pureblood
House: Thunderbird

Apperance:
Reducio
Hunter is a good-looking fellow with brown hair and chocolate eyes which he inherited from his mother. He always seems to find himself quite a lady's boys with his charming looks and handsome features, something about the way he carried himself seemed to scream out "trouble maker" which we all know attracts quite a few girls. He's quite tall for his age and stands around 5'9 which he gets from his father. It's safe to assume he'll end up over six feet tall when he stops growing. His closet consists of a more edgy look, he would rather wear a leather jacket than some silly cloak any day.

Personality:
Reducio
At first, people perceive Hunter as more of the standoffish kind, the type of kid who would smoke outside school grounds and cuss out whoever angered him.

Although Hunter might come off as a trouble maker, he isn't quite what you would expect. Hunter can be a very nice person, especially if you get to know him. He loves to listen to music in his free time, you can often catch him sitting with his homework or by a window, bobbing his foot to some song stuck in his head.

Because of his love for music, he likes to play the guitar, jamming to some of the Beatles and other old rock music when he gets stressed. He can be a very loyal friend and a good shoulder to cry on when needed. Let's just say he wouldn't hesitate to try and stop whatever is making you hurt.

History:

Reducio
Hunter was born in the middle of winter in Queens, New York. His parents were two well-known Wizards who worked in the Magical Congress Of The United States of America or MACUSCA. Although his parents were both Wizards, he still grew up in a muggle community with many non-Magical people.

From a very young age, he had realized that there was a difference between him and the kids that lived in his apartment. When he was only nine, he had to handle a very long scolding from his parents after they picked him up from his next-door neighbor's house and Mrs. Donaldson had informed them Hunter had spilled their secrets. Lucky, Mrs. Donaldson had just thought it was a joke but they had to Obliviate her memories none the less.

He went to school like any normal American kid, getting a basic education before Illvermorny took him in.

Hunter's mom is more of a stricter woman, barely letting him have any friends when he was younger in fear of him getting too attached before having to leave to a new state for most of his life. Because of that Hunter often blames his mother for not having a regular childhood most of the other boys seemed to have.

His father, on the other hand, is a gentle giant who always tried to help Hunter feel better when he was down, he was the one who gave Hunter his first musical instrument. Sure, it was a recorder, but it was the first time Hunter seemed to find an outlet to make him happy or calm him down. He and his father are close and send each other letters all the time.

Amongst music, Hunter also enjoyed the idea of traveling, something about seeing a different culture and experiencing what it's like on the other sides of the world appealed to him more than any old boring job did. That's probably why he enjoyed the trip to Illvermorny the most, the ability to see the crowded streets turn into wide-open land.

His first year he was in awe with the school, he had always been around magic sure but the amount of it that was within these walls were breathtaking. Now he was much older and had gotten used to the sight but sometimes he could still find something that amazed him yet again.

He had some friends at Illvermorny, but he wasn't one to have a large friend group, too many people sometimes gave him anxiety although he'll never admit it. Because of that though, his mother bugged him about being social and opening up to people so Hunter might slip in a lie that he has more friends than he really does at home. He isn't proud of it, but he'll do anything to keep his mom off of his back.

He's had chances to date a few girls here and there, but none of them seemed to have worked out. Most of the time it was mutual, but on the rare occasion he called it off because they were obviously only attracted to him because of his looks or because they thought they could "tame the bad boy".

To say his experiences with dating were bad would be an understatement but he was still young, and he had many things he still needed to learn. Now he was a third-year, his time at Illvermorny flying by. It seemed like yesterday he was seeing the school for the first time as a small eleven-year-old.

It would be somewhat unusual to live in a place as a pureblood with muggles living adjacent, especially considering the traditional separation of muggles and wizards until a little over 5 decades ago. That said, hanging out with muggles would be brief and restrictive more than likely and for good reason -- muggles are very very dangerous and it was important to keep these secrets.

Of course there is something else that is a bit off, something that you will probably come to notice fairly soon. There is not a lot of muggle-borns or half-bloods in the school, yet there is a whole lot of them participating in this pen-pal thing. It is weird being the 'diversity' add-in or at least feeling like that when you are more often among the majority. You will be getting an owl in coming days regarding this.

Name: Astrid Kovac
Age: 11
School Year: First Year
House: Thunderbird
Race: Human
Blood status: Muggleborn
Appearance: Astrid has a doe-like appearance. She has long light brown hair and large caramel eyes. Both her nose and mouth are rounded and small. That, and her small stature make Astrid look to be an 8 year old. Her clothing style varies from childish with large skirts and bow, to more of a party with colorful clothing and bracelets.

Personality: First impressions would dictate that Astrid is a sweet kid who would love nothing other than to impress her parents. Astrid, though, is more into adventures and sub-plots that she enjoys concocting whenever she is bored and feels a little manipulative. Most of the time, she is generally exuberant and out there, not really caring for the rules, but more the adventure that will happen. She enjoys parties, candies, and dancing, as well as most sports, but dislikes over-protective people and studying.

History: Astrid was born and raised in Elko, Nevada. She had a large family, with the majority of her cousins and siblings being boys. She was also one of the youngest children, which caused her to get a lot of love from the adults in her family. After a little while, Astrid learned how to use their love to her advantage. She slowly mainpulated them into giving her what she wanted, and found this to be an entertaining past time. Astrid was easily bored, though, and realized that her interests were more into adventure and parties. Two different aspects, sure, but neither of them really fit what her current layout was of being the studious child.
Changing slowly, she was able to become more adventurous and go to more parties without her family changing their mindset about her too much. When she got the letter that she had made it into Ilvermorny, she was excited. A brand new adventure, and one that had magic? She was thrilled. Her family also viewed her as more special because she could preform magic unlike the rest of the family.
It did put some doubt in her head, was she actually able to manipulate people, or was that her magic just showing it's effects?
Her magic was also shown through increased healing speed, as well as the tendency to not get lost.

However, a reminder that magic does not show up as additional abilities. Everyone starts on a level playing field, including NPCs. I tossed a strike line through the hidden-text regarding that part.

Being a muggle-born, of note would be the fact that shortly after you left for Hogwarts (being a first year very recently) they stopped mentioning magic, referring to your school as simply a special school for special children. This would be because they forgot what they knew about Ilvermorny, they knew the school's name of course but they did not seem to grasp the gravity of difference.

Being a first year, she would not have experienced it yet but she soon would -- when it was time to go home she was not being prevented but she would be distracted from returning home, offers to go on cultural trips and fascinating exchanges as well as extra credit activities all taking place during the times when she would normally go home.

Height: 4'10"

Karilyna has medium-length hair that is a deep jet-black. She has huge, doe-like brown eyes that are the most obvious feature on her oval-like face. They seem to change to a deep black in dark places. She has a very pale complexion unlike most Asians. Petite (for Americans) with an especially slender frame, she looks much younger than her 13 years. If she were to live in Asia, she would likely be average-sized.
Faceclaim: Gyu Ri Kim

Personality:

Karilyna is generally outgoing, although she tends to retreat into her shell when hurt, nervous, or sad. To a random person, she would probably be your typical extroverted leader. She cares deeply about others but can hold a serious grudge if you upset her. Playful smile always on her lips, she can't help but joke around with people she is comfortable with.
She is definitely not selfish or spoiled, which is contrary to the behavior upbringing the snobby couple who adopted her. In fact, Karilyna is probably one of the kindest people you will meet, always ready to share the wealth that she does not want.

History:
Reducio
Enmei and Akiko Kawahara were the perfect couple. Both purebloods, they had attended Mahuotokoro together. Growing up along side each other forged an unbreakable bond between the two. Not many years after the pair graduated from the wizarding school, they were married. Although the marriage was rough due to Enmei's parents disapproving of Akiko's heritage--her family was a pureblood line, but one of her recent ancestors had become enamored with Dark Magic and brought derision upon the entire family--they were happy.

Enmei and Akiko only had one child. Born on July 16, 2008, Karilyna Aiko Kawahara was the light of the couple's life. Creamy pale skin accentuated her mother's long-lashed eyes and her father's big smile. The two vowed not to have more children, spoiling the only daughter they had. Both parents being from very wealthy wizarding families, they had more money they could ever spend in Gringotts.

And then it came. A terrible, unknown virus that killed instantly sparked inside of both Karilyna's parents. One day the two were fine, and the next, they were gone. The then-two-year-old was devastated, left crying on the plush carpet of her room for almost two days, helpless. Sleepless days and nights later, the Japanese Ministry of Magic tore through the house, having heard about the strange incident. To this day, it is unknown what killed Karilyna's parents.

According to her parents' hastily written will, they had known about their impending death and wished for their daughter to move to America, safe from _____________(that part had been scratched out). Fast forward about two years. Karilyna is living uncomfortably in a new home. She had been adopted by another pureblood couple who lived in the arid city of Phoenix, Arizona. They showered her with wealth and did their best, but there was always a hole in the girl's life. No matter how much they provided with her, the little girl knew there was something missing. Even though she was given much, Karilyna chose to own only a few outfits and broomstick. Longing to learn Quidditch but not trusting her own abilities, the girl would sometimes try the broom in her own room but traveled on foot. Often times, she would go to her friends' houses after school, trying to appease her step-parents apparent dislike of her.

Strangely though, her upbringing did nothing to dampen Karilyna's spirits. At school, she was always kind, sharing what she didn't need and making friends with everyone. Her tragic past had shown her that things like this really did happen. The girl used her history to bridge the gap between her and others. Her naturally kind disposition made the girl popular at school, and she easily gathered a close friend group.

Just as she turned 11, Karilyna was told she was to attend Ilvermorny. Sent off halfway across the country by her adopted parents, whom she now suspected didn't want her, the orphaned girl blundered into a new life. She had arrived with the knowledge that it was a boarding school, but soon figured out it was a wizarding school. Having grown up around magic her entire life, it wasn't a revelation to Karilyna. It did, however, bring out the deep pain the girl had hidden away carefully following her parents' deaths.

Karilyna was sorted into the Thunderbird house. After learning about the traits of each house, the girl was torn. Her sense of adventure, fairness, and extroverted nature helped her to fit in, although many of her other strong traits placed her into other houses. But, having had her house chosen for her, the girl let go and tried to enjoy her time at Ilvermorny. As her stepmother would say, "Just let go, child."

Nice job.

As a pureblood with well-off parents, well... adoptive parents and former parents... your presence is somewhat unusual here in this cultural exchange. Moreover, you are here and you are here for a reason. Your contact with muggles and these part muggles (muggle-borns and half-bloods) is pretty unusual even in your school. It is as if just about every mudblood and first gen wizard in your school is involved in these things. Eww. Still, you have a job to do. A part to play. More information will be sent to you via owl at a later time regarding this.

Karilyna did not appear to amount to much. Barely four feet and five inches tall, her stature alone was enough to get her overlooked. Her general dislike of learning anything that did not involve action often resulted in an ignorant front, and as a result, assignments from tedious subjects in her eyes--especially Potions--were often returned with a less-than-passing grade. Such a sight would probably have brought a wave of shame to many, but to the young girl, it didn't matter much.

One wouldn't have to look far to see that Karilyna was practically made for Thunderbird. Filled with wanderlust and an insatiable curiosity, it was hard for even her to imagine herself anywhere else. But she went farther--much farther--than the stereotypes labeled her. While many belonging to her same house were typically satisfied with adventure, she was more than that. Karilyna was brave, confident, daring--and often reckless. She was fearless.

Strangely enough, the small child's fearlessness was more of a developed skill than a natural trait. Her life had been nothing buttrial after trial, and more pain than someone her age should've experienced. It would've been perfectly reasonable, perfectly rational, for her to be paranoid--surely people could've understood a deep distrust, a fear of danger, or a desire to run from anything that could result in any sort of hurt. And honestly, at times, it was hard for Karilyna to fight down such feelings, as there was no way she could live unaffected by her past. But years of carefully tucking away emotions and continuing on with a carefully mischievous smile on her face had paid off. It was hard to faze her.

Orphaned at the age of two, she'd ended up living in America for most of her life, hence her attending Ilvermorny rather than Mahoutokoro, which would've been the default for witches in Japan, where she'd been born. But the forced move across the ocean had been more than a grand adventure, or a beginning of a journey for the young Karilyna. It had meant being forever separated from the country she'd only learned to call home, instead having to fend for herself in a place where she did not know the language and had no relatives. It had been a huge task to ask of a toddler, and just plain scary, but even at the age of two, she'd faced it with a bright smile and the attitude of one undaunted.

Then came her adoptive parents forcing her to attend Muggle school. Now a little older and quite aware of her wizarding background, Karilyna understood perfectly what it meant. It meant being bullied for a still-prevalent accent. It meant control to keep from doing or saying anything that might reveal wizardry in any way--an immense amount of control that she lacked. It meant being tossed into a culture she was unfamiliar with, and still being expected to keep up with the bigger, smarter kids who'd already been in school for a few years. When finally, she was sent off to her first day of school, Muggle façade complete and immaculate, she went. That wasn't to say she liked it, for there was some serious resentment the girl still harbored about the fact, but she simply would not back down. Fear was something that had to be faced.

While intrepid, Karilyna had never been an exceptionally bright child. Both factors likely contributed to the fact that she never failed to get herself into scrapes. Whether it was insolence or a snide remark to a sensitive classmate, a scraped up cheek from a senseless careening down a hill on a bike, or a black eye from sidewalk scuffles, she seemed to always be somehow injured--a fact that never ceased to annoy her adoptive parents. Although the girl herself couldn't deny that it hurt sometimes, she'd learned to deal with the pain, and not to fear it.

It wasn't always just a lack of logic that drove her to such lengths, though. Beneath the stupid bravery laid an intense loyalty, and while she was physically weak and tiny, she would do whatever she could to protect her friends--she'd take a concussion, two black eyes, broken bones, anything. So, due to constant efforts to make sure that the people she cared for were not hurt, her fearlessness would be made quite apparent--like scrambling up trees to help out friends, only to fall out herself. Because after all, she couldn't just go about her life. She had to show the world that Karilyna Kawahara was fearless.

Of course, she had not simply moved on from a rocky early childhood unaffected, but while those events could've very well broken her, Karilyna let them build her. To make her stronger. Sure, there would be hard times, and she of all people could understand that life wasn't easy, but her past experiences had only made her bolder. She would command her fears, not give in. She would face them head on.

Ability 2/2: Terrible Presence
Reducio
Looks could be awfully deceiving. At the surface, Karilyna was a small girl with rather large brown eyes, and appeared thoroughly American in accent and mannerisms. (Of course, she'd been born in Japan, but nine years of living in America had certainly had its effect.) If one knew her well, they'd know that she was an adventurer, as well as more than happy to put classes and grades on the back burner for something more exciting. Personality-wise, the raven-haired girl was friendly, loyal, and a good friend--if one didn't mind her accidental bluntness. But through it all, there was a very different presence. Something that seemed wrong. It was dark, chilling, and almost sinister.

Now, Karilyna was not at all evil. Though she was often outspoken and sometimes rude, there was nothing inherently malevolent about her. The darkness was hard to place, almost like an ever-changing shadow that was simply there. Even though it had never been very obvious--not even to Karilyna herself--it had always been about her. But nobody had ever called it out.

It'd all begun--like pretty much every other remotely major event in her life--when she'd been orphaned. Though she had been almost impossibly cheerful about the whole situation, there seemed to always be a monster trying to break free from within. At a young age, loneliness had been a prevalent issue for Karilyna. Being alone only brought reality crashing down on her, slowly untying the bonds that kept all the emotions bottled up inside. It made her angry and fearful at the same time, yet craving revenge on whatever force had just about robbed her of a proper childhood. A lot of times, there would be a slight shift in mood. Literally. The darkness would ultimately prevail, even if it was for just a moment, and something about her simply wouldn't feel right.

There had been plenty of things in the girl's life about which she didn't understand. But it was in the little misfortunate happenings where you could see at least part of the reason behind it. It had always appeared to Karilyna that people liked her and wanted to become her friend, for she'd never had difficulty gathering a group of people she trusted. And in a way, it was true—she was quite the outgoing child, always willing to include people and extend an arm where it was needed. It was hard not to like her. But what she didn't notice was the equal number of people--if not more--that distanced themselves from her, and sometimes even made conscious efforts to do so. Perhaps her charm simply didn't extend that far, or…there was something that didn't exactly seem right about interacting with her.

When people neared her, it was an almost-tangible feeling of something like fear that would hit them, appearing to roll off the Thunderbird. It tended to take people by surprise, and pushed them to give her a wide berth. Children--particularly her equals--would typically feel uncomfortable around her, a dark something settling in the pit of their stomach. A feeling they couldn't put a name to. Some were able to simply ignore this, choosing to enjoy Karilyna's company while conveniently pushing it away, but a few others were quite frankly afraid of the underlying presence. While in Muggle school, she'd seen all of these types of people, yet not understanding why they did what they did. She was bullied by some who chose to cover up their fear with a rude and aggressive front, and saw schoolmates who literally ran away, wanting to avoid contact with her at all costs. It was a shame, really, that this was true, for it was all a result of what she was keeping to herself.

See, of course Karilyna disliked the fact that people would choose to avoid her, or that there always seemed a tiger wanting to break loose in the loss and hurt she hid away in the back of her mind, even from herself, but the truth was, it was there. True, it was irritating, but she could be strong. She had to be.

Name: Jeremiah Lucero
Age: 14
Year: 4th
Race: Human
Blood Status: Muggle-born
House: Thunderbird
Appearance
Reducio
With a lanky stature and a hunched posture (he's working on that), Jeremiah doesn't really bother with his appearance. He is rather tall, standing at a solid 5'8, which has caused him to stand out a bit from the crowd. His skin is fairly tanned and of an ochre colour, while his jet black hair is usually disheveled, though he doesn't bother to try to fix that. When he doesn't look distracted or bored, his dark brown eyes are focused, as if trying to uncover some mysterious secret lurking under the surface. In terms of attire, he doesn't try to dress to impress. He'd usually be found wearing a jacket and shirt with some jeans and sneakers, and he doesn't change his style much unless he has a reason to.

Personality
Reducio
While it's true that Jeremiah isn't a mean person at heart, there's just something about him that might put off other people. Whether it's his constant sarcasm, his taciturn demeanor, or even that bored look he always seemed to have, people have a tendency to leave him alone. Of course, he doesn't really mean to be intimidating and rude, but after having to put up with bullies and other people who seemed to look down on him, who wouldn't blame him for being a bit distrusting towards other people?

As many people would like to attest, he can be quite acerbic. He can try to act polite for the sake of avoiding conflict, but beyond that, he will not hesitate to come up with snarky remarks, regardless of whether he's trying to show his distaste for other people or if he just feels the need to express himself through sarcasm. What can he say? Sarcasm just comes easily to him. Granted, he doesn't do it for the main purpose of insulting other people. That would make him no better than the bullies who tried to intimidate their way into being feared. Still, if someone were to talk to him, they would expect at least one sarcastic remark from him one way or another. Maybe he'd be able to hold back depending on the situation, but he will find a way either way.

Of course, that isn't all there is to him. He can actually be a funny person, even if most of his humour can be quite dry and leaning towards the cynical side of things. Having had a vivid imagination at a young age and using his drawing skills to channel that imagination, he can also be inventive and perceptive of the things around him. And he can actually be kind of considerate towards other people. He wasn't a complete monster, and he knew what it was like to be in a position where he felt completely down. Just try not to rub it in his face too much when he actually decides to be genuine for once.

History
Reducio
Life was rather uneventful for Jeremiah. His father worked as an actuary while his mother was a web developer, and Jeremiah lived as the only child of the family. As their jobs had flexible working hours, they had enough time to take care of their son, and the young boy developed a close relationship with both his parents. His mother was a rather quiet woman who didn't feel the need to talk often, especially in large groups, while his father was an intelligent man who aimed for perfection. Regardless, the two grew to care for their child and did their best to make sure he was successful in the future, even if they weren't the most affectionate people out there when it came to showing their love.

Jeremiah himself was a quiet person, preferring to keep to himself than to make himself stand out. At an early age, he discovered he had a knack for the arts, specifically drawing. There was just something about putting a pencil on a paper and being able to lose oneself in their imagination, when the outside world was just so normal. It wasn't that Jeremiah didn't appreciate what he had, but he always felt that life was too serious. It was a natural thought process for a small child like him, after all. Especially when he had yet to be exposed of what the real world truly had to offer.

Then muggle school came along. Being somewhat of a recluse from everyone else, he didn't have a huge circle of friends, but he had a few who he felt he could be comfortable with. Of course, he went through some struggles, including bullies who thought it was a good idea to pick on the quiet kid who seldom spoke in class. It was a new experience, although an unwelcome one. It hurt at first, knowing that he was essentially an easy target for bullying, but after a short while, he learned how to defend himself.

Later in the year, any attempts at bullying the boy would only prove to be a failure when they learned that Jeremiah just... Didn't react. He might have come up with sarcastic comments to make the back off, but other than that, he just stopped caring what they had to say to him. Even when they tried shoving the boy, insulted him, or did whatever they could to annoy him, nothing happened. Jeremiah brushed them all off. It was as if the boy had turned into a different person throughout the year. Instead of being the quiet, shy kid he initially appeared as, he became more withdrawn and isolated from everyone else. He thought it was a miracle that he managed to keep his friends throughout this change, but he appreciated them supporting him to the end and helping him out whenever they could.

Then something strange happened. It was another morning when he had to prepare for school. He wouldn't usually consider himself clumsy, but maybe it wasn't just his day. While getting his breakfast from the kitchen, he had accidentally knocked over a mug on the counter. The odd thing was that the mug never managed to touch the ground. Jeremiah hadn't even caught the mug in his hands. Instead, it levitated above the ground, slightly swaying, but still suspended in the air. It was great that the mug didn't break, but what was happening? Did he somehow do this? How would his parents react to this?

Nevertheless, that was the first sign of magic. It didn't take long for his parents to catch on to the strange occurrences around the house, and eventually, piece together the puzzle. They weren't sure what to think of their son. They noticed that he was more distant, especially since school started, but they didn't think anything else was wrong with him. But they didn't think he could do magic, of all things. Both his mother and father were extremely logical people, and it was hard for them to believe anything that wasn't science. And yet, their son was living proof that magic did exist, somehow.

Ever since, a void formed between Jeremiah and his parents. It wasn't obvious, and his parents still cared for him, although they still couldn't understand what to do with him. What did having magic mean for him? How would it affect him in school? Would he be a danger to those around him? They wouldn't know, and they weren't sure who to ask.

Eventually, some of their worries would be lifted when Jeremiah was granted the opportunity to attend Ilvermorny. A magical school would be the perfect way for him to learn more about controlling his magic and being in a new environment where he can meet other people who were like him. It would have been a completely new change for Jeremiah, but once he adjusted in the new school, he found that he was much more comfortable and even a bit happier.

Still, after learning about the discrimination of muggles in the wizarding world, he made sure to keep a distance from everyone else in order to keep his muggle heritage a secret. He already had to deal with bullies in the past, and he wasn't about to spend the rest of his years in school with bullies on his back.

Accepted

It is something notable that this young man who has now been in Ilvermorny for a few years that it has been a rare occurrence to see his parents. In the earlier years it was never outright said but in these later years, coming into his fourth that is the truth was a bit less subtle. In previous years he was never restricted from returning home, he might have had to repeat a few things about his time in Ilvermorny but it was nothing of major note. However, there were a lot of opportunities that he would have to forego to make the journey home -- trips to far away magical places, opportunities to meet someone of magical importance or learn something fantastical. Perhaps he accepted those opportunities or perhaps he returned home, rejecting these chances to better know about the wizard aspects of his life. Now in his fourth year, it has become less of a choice, it is a bit more insistent. He can still say no, but there are increasing penalties as of late. He returns home and the other boys damage his things in his dorm room, he finds that he is assigned an egregious amount of homework that he really cannot do off school grounds coincidentally the days or weeks he planned to return home, simple statements by the other students and even Professors to "forget about them".

Phylicia has wavy auburn hair that falls to the middle of her back. She often doesn't brush it, a habit created entirely to spite her mother. She has dark brown eyes that host a spark of resilience and a slightly rosy complexion. She is average-sized and moves with a calculated grace.

Personality:

Phyllis is nothing if not resilient. Despite her childhood she refuses to be miserable and feel sorry for herself. An optimist, she's looking to make her own future. She certainly has a rebellious streak but she can stay inside the lines so long as she doesn't have a problem with the authority. Surprisingly, Phyllis isn't a very good liar as she simply hasn't had need to lie, as the girl goes to great lengths to not got caught. Whereas some might be made extremely closed off and unwilling to share their past, Phylicia honestly couldn't care less if people know about her. She can't stand other people being mistreated because she knows what that feels like. She doesn't care much about others' opinions, would never cry in public, and often befriends outsiders just to make a statement. She is insecure but masks it with pretending she doesn't care. Phyllis often plays the role of the mastermind but will just as quickly join the action.

History:
Reducio
Charmaine was among the Sacred 28, one of the few left with blood utterly untarnished by Muggles. She attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, graduating from Slytherin a year before the famous Harry Potter arrived. She was everything her parents could have hoped: cunning, intelligent, powerful. Charmaine could have easily climbed ranks in the Ministry, but instead she decided to continue her studies, traveling abroad in pursuit of knowledge. She had no need for money (her family had innumerable Galleons in their Gringotts Vault) and besides, she craved knowledge of something Hogwarts didn't delve into. She sought knowledge of the Dark Arts. Canada, particularly the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, was one of her favorite places. It wasn't widely accommodating but the solitude and natural beauty appealed to the witch. One day, she hoped to even settle down in the rural area.

But then the second Wizarding War began and she was forced to return home. Her branch of the family, unlike many others, chose to stay out of the war. If the Dark Lord gained control, they would join him of course, but until then their own privileged lives were more important. So when the war ended, Charmaine continued her life like nothing had happened. Later that year, a marriage was arranged between her and Roswell Stanwood, a graduate of Ravenclaw four years younger than her who worked in the Ministry of Magic (Department of Magical Law Enforcement). The Stanwoods were not of the Sacred 28, but they were purebloods and after the war, many of the Sacred were sent to Azkaban for association with the Dark Lord. The marriage was happy enough. Both got along well and Roswell was quite taken by Charmaine's beauty.

And then the baby came along. Phylicia Amarina Stanwood was born to the couple on a rainy November night in 2007 in the comforts of a large estate along the Thames that had belonged to Charmaine's late grandmother. The little girl grew up, never lacking anything money could buy: toys, food, clothes, everything. Her most valued possession was a toy broomstick, on which she proved to be a natural flier. But for Phylicia, money could not buy what she wanted most, and that was to be loved. Her parents were kind to her, of course, but her mother was aloof and her father often away at work. She was taught at home by a tutor and attended by house-elves and hired personnel.

But then one day her life went crashing down. The Ministry of Magic raided their house and found an armada of illegal Dark Artifacts in Charmaine's possession. The objects, more valuable to the witch than her own daughter, were confiscated and destroyed, leaving Charmaine devastated. Luckily for her, she wasn't arrested, but her reputation was shattered. Roswell was on the brink of losing his job for the scandal and a fight broke out. In the end, Charmaine took Phylicia and fled to the Canadian province she'd grown so attached to, leaving Roswell alone in England. The mother and daughter inhabited a long abandoned mansion of some unknown witch or wizard. The place was easily repaired by the elder witch's magical prowess, but a feeling of loneliness remained.

This time, Charmaine taught Phylicia and the only other members of the household were several house elves. The little girl, now seven, grew to hate her Pure-blood heritage. She learned far too much about Dark Magic and couldn't believe her mother thought so highly of it. She even resented her father, who she'd had a decent relationship with before, for leaving her with her callous mother. Her only escape was on a broomstick she found in the shed. For hours at a time, she would disappear, riding it into magical urban areas. Despite the fact her mother paid her more attention now, she was still more absorbed in herself and Dark Magic and rarely noticed Phylicia's, who know insisted on going by Phyllis', absences. The one time she did, it was disastrous. Charmaine flew into a rage. The woman had never loved her daughter and now she flung words that cut deeper than any physical blow could have. But if the intention of this berating was to stop Phyllis from sneaking out, it did anything but. The girl learned how to cover her tracks, to disappear when her mother was deep in her own world. She made friends with 'the wrong sort' when she went on her little adventures and got involved in petty criminal activity. Phyliss didn't see anything wrong with the Muggle kids she hung around. They were hurting and rejected by their families, just like she was. Besides, the group was very lucky to have her. She kept them from doing anything that would harm others and get them into real trouble and made sure they were never caught.

Finally an end to her miserable, rebellious childhood came in the form of her eleventh birthday, meaning the next year she would be attending a school of magic (her magic had been prevalent since birth, showing up in small bursts from time to time). Ilvermorny, of course, was the school she would feed into based on where she lived. Her mother was not for the idea. Ilvermorny didn't place value on purity of blood and Charmaine was appalled by the idea of her daughter being treated as an equal to Muggleborn scum. She wished Phylicia to attend Durmstrang, a proper institute that embraced the Dark Arts and only accepted pupils from wizarding families. But that would mean closing the gap of the Atlantic Ocean between her and Roswell, who's letters to Phyllis had ceased entirely, something she wasn't eager to do, if only even for a few moments to drop Phylicia off. Charmaine had slowly accumulated Dark Artifacts over the past four years and she wasn't willing to risk the precious items. Besides, in comparison, what was her rebellious daughter?

And so it was decided. The next year Phyllis was dropped off in Massachusetts near the school by her mother who disapparated immediately, leaving the girl to fend for herself. Luckily, Phyliss was resourceful and she soon found her way. Standing on the Gordian Knot, she was unafraid. The school couldn't possibly be worse than home. But Phyllis desperately hoped she wouldn't be chosen by the Horned Serpent as it seemed aligned with Slytherin, bring up painful memories of her mother. Fortunately, the beating of wings signaled that she was wanted by the Thunderbird. The house of adventurers, and very fitting, as Phyllis certainly was adventurous. In the next room she received her wand: twelve inches, supple, larch wood and jackalope antler. The wand was smooth and devoid of any carvings, kind of like her: a blank canvas ready to display a new story.

Unlike home, Phyllis saw no reason to break the rules. In fact, rebellion could very easily land her back home with her mother, an option unthinkable. Her good behavior earned her the opportunity to write to a student at Hogwarts. She accepted, despite her conflicted past. If she was sure of one thing, it was that she wouldn't let her past stop her from creating her own future.

I did have to add the word "magical" to the urban areas statement with the childhood broom riding. Riding a broom in the first place would be somewhat limited and a pretty large stretch because of the statutes on the responsible use of magic that exist in the UK and abroad but when added to the statues on secrecy, the governing bodies of the Americas would have been coming down on you and your mother for so recklessly displaying magic.

Your character being new to the school would probably not have identified a pattern as of yet. Probably... after all the uncanny events that have been ongoing at this school would not pertain to your character in particular. Yet, you play an important part in it all the same as an unwitting accomplice... You see, you were asked to take part in this penpal. Well, you were more than asked, you were told to participate. Strangely enough your fellows that also participate in this are muggle-borns and there is even a half-blood. You, oddly enough, are the odd-man in this situation.

Calming Presence Application:
Reducio
Phyllis, even though she didn't realize it, had a presence about her that set people at ease. Despite her reputation, which wasn't the best and would normally lead someone to be unsettled when first meeting her, she just had this easy-going nature that lent others a sense of calm. Yes, her family had associations with Dark Magic, and, yes, she was known as a troublemaker, but be it her smile, relaxed posture, or something else, perhaps intangible, she had a calming presence.

The presence first became apparent when she was four. Her family, being wealthy Pure-bloods, had a number of house elves working for them. On that day another family high in status was visiting and one of the house elves spilled tea on one of the guest's dress. Naturally, he was kicked from the room and told to go punish himself. Phyllis, feeling badly for the creature, followed. She couldn't stop him from banging his head repeatedly against the wall, but she was successful in calming the poor elf down.

Such instances came up throughout her childhood in similar manners. When she moved with her mother to Canada, Phyllis became the peacemaker in the ring of friends she found in a magical urban area. The kids she hung around were far from well-mannered and had a tendency to get into fights even amongst themselves. Phyllis was the one to break those fights up and help everyone calm down.

And in situations where Phyllis and a friend were setting up a prank, she made it easy to relax. Sure, they were in the middle of doing something that could get them into trouble, which could be a bit stressful, or one might be overly excited, but with Phyllis around they were able to execute their prank without blowing their cover.

The same carried over to Quidditch. As a first year, Phyllis hadn't made the team but even just when playing for fun her teammates found it easier to play. Even when they were down, the girl was unflappable, never getting frustrated or giving up. In her mind, so long as you kept trying there was always a chance of coming back, of winning. They just had to focus and around her doing just that was much easier.

Even without each and every situation that made it clear her presence had an effect on people, her personality alone lent itself to helping others relax. Phyllis could be intense when she wanted to, but most of the time the redhead was laid-back, carefree. Grades weren't a concern; in fact, not achieving top marks aided her goal of irritating her mother. Plus, the way she saw it, things just happened. You couldn't always do anything about it, so why not just go where things took you?

To those she cared about, Phyllis was solid, unchangeably loyal. In every other aspect of her life she was unpredictable, but when it came down to her friends counting on her she wouldn't let them down for anything. It was another aspect of her that helped her friends, her allies, not worry and instead focus there energy on succeeding.

It was true that Phyllis wasn't the smartest, hence the reason she hadn't identified the aura of calm she possessed. But she didn't have to know about it for it to be there. Without a doubt, Phyllis had a calming presence.

Fearless Application:
Reducio
No one was truly fearless. It simply wasn't possible for a human to not be afraid of something, be it spiders, the dark, losing a loved one, or one of the other numerous things there were to be scared of. All that considered, Phyllis was as close as you could get to fearless.

Growing up the way she did, Phyllis had to be fearless. It was that or be scared out of her wits of what her mother might do with all her Dark Magic next. Not letting anything get to her was probably not all that smart, but Phyllis wasn't exactly known for sharp intellect. Her sometimes reckless bravery led to many a not-so-great circumstance. For instance, climbing a tree too high without checking if the branches could hold her weight. That had been a painful day, what with tumbling to the ground when the branch under her snapped and breaking her arm. It was a good thing indeed that she'd grown up with magic to fix such accidents. Or, another time when she'd jumped into an icy lake to save one of her friends even though she had no clue how to swim. She'd been awfully lucky to survive that.

Still, not being scared of just about anything had its benefits. She didn't dread big occasions, didn't have to deal with stage fright, and wasn't afraid of just walking over to someone and striking up a conversation. In relation to that calming presence she possessed, the fact she wasn't scared made it that much easier for the people around her to relax.

When the Ilvermorny students had been invited to Hogwarts and fights had broken out at the Masked Ball, she'd charged straight into them. It was far from the smart thing to do, especially since she had next to no spells under her belt and all, but that didn't mean it hadn't been proof of her lack of fear. Maybe it was just the sort of bull-headed bravery you'd expect out of Gryffindors. Maybe it would get her killed someday. It wasn't as though she were scared of the potential repercussions, so what did it matter?

There were, of course, the things she was scared of. Being in the dark alone, for instance. Her childhood had taught her full well the horrors that hid in the shadows. Water, too--when she'd tried to save her friend, she'd learned just how terrifying it felt to drown. Neither of those fears would stop her from anything, though. Phyllis would still plunge into the shadows, still jump into water if it meant saving a friend or if it needed to be done. Perhaps that was the most important thing about her, more important than being mostly fearless in the first place: when she did get scared, she faced her fears anyways. Between the fearlessness and the bravery, Phyllis would not be stopped by fright.

Phylicia Stanwood was tough. It was apparent even when she was a toddler; if she fell down, she was going to get back up. Throughout a childhood full of often reckless pursuits of excitement, scrapes, bruises, and the occasionally broken bone were common. She was quite the adventurous little thing, and when she played, she played hard. She was always outside, running around, climbing trees, doing cartwheels, flying her toy broom, and generally looking for any way to have fun.

Over time, her outdoor activities strayed away from simple playing and more into improving her physical abilities. Her endurance was possibly the only thing she admired about her family; Stanwoods were known for never giving up. Granted, the things her parents worked at until they got what they wanted were hardly admirable, but she was going to be different. Better. And that started by being the best broom flier out there.

Zipping around the grounds surrounding her family's manor brought a whole new set of dangers. See, when Phyllis flew, she only had one speed: fast. The little girl didn't know how to go slow; she was in it for the rush of adrenaline, the feeling having the wind streak past you. Instead of the occasional tumble out of a tree, now she was running straight into them, along with boulders and the occasional fence. Perhaps the resulting head trauma caused her to become even more reckless and stupid, but she never once cried. Instead, she always got back up, grabbed her broom, and walked back to the house to get fixed up.

This resilience wasn't just physical, though. Sure, she could take her fair share of hits and keep going, but getting up required a mental aspect. She knew how to shake things off. She chose to be optimistic, to believe even through growing up with parents that mostly ignored her that things could and would get better. And if she believed there was always a light at the end of the tunnel, it was easier to get back up.

In addition, over the course of her first year she took to running in the morning. It wasn't as amazing of a feeling as zipping through the air on her broom, but it still felt good, feet pounding on the ground, propelling her forward. By the end of the year she could go a pretty long time without having to stop or slow down. She felt ready to face whatever came her way. Felt ready to keep pushing through.

WAMPUS QUIDDITCH CAPTAIN
Image
faceclaim: Ross Lynch

appearance: Owen Morrison is a stocky fifteen-year-old, of average height and muscular build. He plays Quidditch religiously, which is probably the culprit for his stocky stature. He has a square jawline, with deep brown eyes and constantly messy brown hair. He’s a got a wide, constant grin on his face and his skin is tanned from playing Quidditch out in the sun. He’s a carbon-copy of his father, who is European. His mother is also European, so, that’s his heritage as far as he knows. He’s got a number of scars from doing stupid stunts and taking even stupider dares— but he loves them because each comes with a funny story to tell. He has one on each knee, a long one running down his right bicep, two on his right hand, one on his forehead, and another on his left calf.

personality: Owen is a huge goofball. He’s got ADHD, so he’s always moving and can never sit still. He lives for making people laugh and for entertaining others, and he’s a very selfless person. He’s not independent, at all, but people are kind of drawn to him, and he’s popular at Illvermorny. He never really got the praise he sought from his parents, so it’s left him feeling like he’s never good enough, like he always has to prove something to someone. Hence, the entertaining, the popularity, and the Quidditch stardom. He can’t take anything besides Quidditch seriously, and he can always make a joke in the worst situations. He’s also infuriatingly optimistic, and he’s a total idealist.
ESFP - The Entertainer

history: Owen grew up in a cold, unloving family. He was the only child, and he’d always suspected that his parents had only had him so they wouldn’t stand out among blood-elitist families. Owen was but a mere object to them, and it impacted him more than he’d ever admit. He was born and raised in Los Angeles, and he loved it there, even if he was still living with his parents back then. He went to a fancy private school, one with wizard children only, and he never got the real experiences of elementary or middle school.

He had always felt so detached from the world, his parents never bothering to speak to him and the kids in his class being snobby brats he couldn’t think of socializing with without throwing up. However, when Illvermorny came around, Owen suddenly felt at home.

I am not approving the listed iNPC relationships because that would have to be something worked out between yourself and those players. That said, love it if you guys have worked out being friends with one another, adds depth and will be useful with the coming event.

Being a pureblood, a lot of the strange happenstances that have been occurring might not be directly apparent however considering the fact that this is not your first year... you have an inkling that something is off. Ilvermorny is known to be one of the least elitist schools, and that is in a way true as they have opened their door to those with muggles in their family tree, but there is still something off. A lot of the students that have a lot of muggle heritage (or any really) seem to get a lot of "extra attention" from the staff in particular. They often say it is "to reduce the gap" and to "give them a bit of culture" so that they "can learn what they cannot in their homes." All true in a way, but the interest is not entirely ordinary.

Those with mixed heritages are uncommon due to Rapports law and even since the repeal there has been a culture of division that has persisted. Due to this, there are not many wizards that enter the school with a muggle heritage. You spend a fair amount of time with the few muggle-borns in your school, some of them good friends (if those relationships are true) so you find yourself given similar offers by the  Professors for those "extra cultural opportunities" where your "pureblood presence may be helpful to your friends." If you have participated in other activities in the past with your friends, you, like your friends might have noticed that your time home has been limited due to participation.
