At first, most would wonder why a blind boy had decided to join a competition where he'd be climbing whist avoiding obstacles, and that concern wasn't entirely unfounded. Without magic to rely on Azzure knew full well that there was more of a risk doing something out of his comfort zone in this environment and under these circumstances. But in all honesty it was just because Azzure didn't want to be outclassed by his juniors. When some of the people from his camp had mentioned wanting to join the competition, Azzure took it upon himself to go as well under the guise that he was being a good chaperone while in truth, Azzure didn't want his pride to be hurt.

However as Azzure sat around in a circle under this cliffside, he understood that he probably wasn't going to win. The people surrounding him were much more able bodied, more full of life than him. However all the time Azz spent working out in his first and second years must be good for something, his biceps weren't just for show after all. So as he listened to the headmaster speak and heard the speaker play music to set the mood for this morning –– Azz made a deal to himself that he'll try his hardest to get to the top, even if he isn't first, he won't loose. Not to the other competitors, and not to his disability. This was Azzure's chance to prove to himself that despite everything, he is more than medical records and hardship.

Lucy was excited. She was absolutely going to participate. Not to compete per se, but to climb. She loved climbing. Although... She hadn’t done climbing like this before. Not cliffs like this, but trees and rocks. Whatever she could safely conquer when she was outside and curious enough to find out what was at the top. This was a bit different. For example, there was considerably more equipment involved. And even though she got to know the gear the previous day at the practice, she still had only gotten a little taste of this kind of climbing.

Lucy looked down at herself, checking over the gear with the same sort of curiosity she had given practically everything else at Uagadou. The cliff, though, was much taller than yesterday. And much more… cliff-like. She tilted her head back to look all the way up. That was a lot of rock for sure.

Lucy wasn’t too worried about falling. There was a safety net, after all, and she had listened carefully yesterday. Still, the cliff wasn’t going to have branches like trees do, and rocks… Well, the rocks she had climbed in the past used to be smaller. The only thing that worried her was the fact that in case she wasn’t able to continue the climb, she wasn’t going to be able to cast the red sparks to get any help. That was a little unsettling but not enough to stop her.

Lucy stepped closer to the starting point and looked over the cliff again, her eyes moving from one section to another. Small grips. Bigger ones. Cracks. She wasn't trying to work out a plan. She was just looking. It was cool. Interesting even.

Lucy looked over at the other students, then back up at the cliff with a small grin. She knew how to climb. Kind of. There was only one way to find out how different this was going to be.

Alfie had some experience with climbing, but not so much experience as to be freakish for a muggle-raised eleven-year-old. He was aware, however, that if all wizard kids had parents anything like @Strike Allen's parents, that some of Alfie’s fellow competitors were going to be freakish.

Alfie's mother did not approve of his climbing. As a home care worker she knew what a serious head injury could do to someone and had no intention seeing her son end up like one of her clients, or even worse. Just in her own lifetime there had been multiple Caergybi climbing incidents resulting in major trauma, spinal injuries, and, in a couple of instances, death, so she knew the possibility was very real.

Fortunately for Alfie, (who was not old enough or wise enough to have his mother's caution) his grandfather had intervened. Taid had reasoned that forbidding Alfie from climbing was not going to stop him, and, if Alfie was going to act like a fool anyway, that at least he should have the training to make it marginally less dangerous. In the end the family had shelled out the necessary money to get Alfie both equipment and training, and that was saying a lot for a family where money was always in short supply.

Even with Alfie’s training, he had not faced a climb of this length and difficulty before. Most of his climbs had been heavily curated and monitored for safety, or at least his official climbs had been. His training had not convinced him of his own mortality enough to deter him from trying out a few solo climbs around the island, but all of them had been on crags shorter than this. Of course, this climb had something that his muggle climbs had not. Magic. Not Alfie’s magic. That was still extremely remedial. Unless there was a need for dancing teacups his wand was largely useless. However, the adults present were not so limited and now that Alfie had seen multiple people plummet from their brooms and live to tell the tale, he was not especially frightened.

Perhaps that was just a Gryffindor thing though.

As Alfie prepared to climb, he told himself that slow and steady was most likely the way to go, both in terms of safety and reserving his energy. Once the climbing commenced, however, the competitiveness in him would not allow him to go any slower than the others.

There were few things in the world that Jo loved more than that swooping feeling in her stomach that being high up and looking down at ground could give you, but one of them was winning. That made the prospect of a climbing competition an enticing one, much better than learning to build those unwieldy muggle tents. The fact that she had never climbed using gear. or indeed climbed anything more than ten feet or so off the ground (fences and trees mostly) did not daunt her. All the gear meant was that it was harder to get injured while falling, and having to go higher would only make it more fun.

As she waited for the signal to go, she tried to size up her competition. Most of the other kids seemed to be first years, or around her age, and she thought she had a pretty good edge on them. She was taller, after all, than most of them, which should be an advantage. There were a handful of older kids, though, that would have the edge in that department, including a girl from Uagadogou that was already trash talking them. The girl was probably right about Jo's bones, but she could only hope that she would be agile enough to make up for her lack of strength (and maybe the thin bones would help by making her lighter!).

Rock climbing.

Aaron never climbed outdoors, but did climb a couple of the indoor walls (boudering which was without harness and with harness too). This was a different experience.

Sure, they were promised a safety net below them at all times and if they were to slip or couldn't continue, they would be levitated to the top (and disqualified), but it did make this experience a bit different.

Aaron thought back to the various things he learnt and experienced in his previous climbing experiences and couldn't see the different coloured rocks he could hold onto for going up. Instead all he could see was just one big rock, which was the wall he was going to climb.

He got into the safety gear and readied himself to climb the wall. He didn't participate to win, as he knew he was going to loose looking at the competition beside him, but he participated for the experience.

After checking his safety gear was put on properly, and confirming with someone else, Aaron was finally ready to race. He looked back at the top and gulped.

It was not only windy, but just slightly above, the grip space was slightly small. A bit above that he saw that there were some falling rocks to look after, and even above that were cracked grips, which were even harder to hold onto.

Nonetheless, Aaron was determined to give his best. After all, where is the fun if there isn't any competition?

But the pounding beat of wizarding rock kicked through the wood planks of a seat in Denisse's chair, and did nothing to settle the anxious jitters in her stomach. She squirmed a little in her pavilion chair, swinging her gaze out over the canopy of shadows to the massive rock face reaching up before them. Yesterday's practice on a diminutive cliff had seemed sufficiently doable, but staring at this wall-jagged vastness rising to the heavens-The stakes just seemed entirely different.

The cool wind of the enchanted world blew past her skin, a refreshing change after days of dust-slinging through the wilderness and concentrating hard on her competition for the wilderness potion-making contest. Her hands still carried the light stain of ground-up beetles and scratched roots from that same arduous mental challenge, but she needed another kind of strain today. Pure grit.

A Sonorus spell suddenly amplified headmaster Emery's booming voice, echoing above the rock music.

"Welcome to your second challenge! You may enter into a new competition…... It's your turn to race to the top of the cliff you see before you!"

She followed his hand to the edge of that sheer cliff face and then down to the safety net beneath his feet. Sure, being secured by a safety net felt good, but the worst-case scenario meant falling into the net, or–even worse–shooting red sparks from her fingertips in the aftermath of a loss. She was going to climb that mountain, no matter what.

Closing down his speech as he promised the spectators' dinner and a head start to the finish line - the pavilion was filled with a riot of activity. This time the spectators relaxed, sipping pumpkin juice and munching food, while staff started down their row distributing climbing harnesses and other gear.

Denisse rose to her feet and inhaled deeply to steady her pounding adrenaline. She grabbed for her equipment, carefully snapping the tight straps into place around her waist and legs.

Once again aiming for the top, she followed her group as an assistant led the way to the start line.

The area were considerably much steeper up close as Marigold stood there, hazel eyes wide as she blinked at the sight. Climbing competition... it would be a fun activity to do with, well, with the exception of the huge possibility that one would end up falling. And from that height? It was certainly something she would rather not think about.

She should've thought otherwise about joining such competition, but because she followed her teammates and her upperclassmen, she's now standing along with them, looking like a lost toddler than a camper about to compete. The little earthen child doesn't even know where she got the confidence to agree to join them. Maybe it was because of how persuasive one of her fellow groupmate was? What was his name again? Chatt? Anyway, it also might be because she had climbed trees back home with her father. But climbing small trees with a parental support is completely different from climbing rocky cliff sides!

Her gaze flickered to the oldest among them, feeling a bit worried about his sake. It's not like she's doubting his capabilities, but without the help of vision, it'll be a dangerous sort of task to risk one's life for. Well, it's not like she has the luxury to worry about anyone else when she knew herself that she's gonna be just as bad. Her eyes flickered to her companions. "Do you think they will allow backing out at the last minute?" she asked them nervously, her fingers fiddling at the hem of her green shirt. "I—I think I'm g-gonna fall before we even reach the starting point." Dramatic as it may sound, she fear that it would be proven accurate soon enough.

Significant range from a brooming sport to a climbing one differed. Chatt—muggle activities came with him whether it was monkey bars or a simulation—was always told in physicals. It was a dangerous activity that likely of him to participate in. He'd scale the cliff, size towering over him. He wasn't sure why he participated. A thrill within him could be the sole reason, his overall adventuristic yet undying unbearable personality came washed over him. Or purposely trying to kill himself.

A kid as him, a reckless boy, a child exposed to muggle age as him—he was used to stupid ideas and behavioral activities that caused trouble. In fact his coping mechanism might be how he turns to be excited. The rock forged wall, its centuries of given mold held spaces and cracks for it. Climbable it is, as Chatt had never experienced one.

Keeping his fear swallowed and absorbed, he "kindly" asked his mates to join him. Staring at the cliffs life, tectonic plates the sample of it, it wasn't so bad now.

"It's not so bad," acknowledging his juniors fright. He placed his hands in his jacket pocket, findling each on its own. "Think of it as duelling." Though no correlation, Chatt lacked sympathy. Whilst walking towards the starting point, he'd remind himself there were no reason—nor possibilities—for him to perish so quickly. Plus he doesn't have Wizard Insurance.

Somewhere below, the incessant low rumble of rocks thrummed through the floorboards, causing diminutive tremors to ripple through the soles of Ivy's boots. Perched by the pavilion's edge, she noted the spectators were already arriving at their chairs, reaching for their icy drinks from their bosom coolers, raising their brass binoculars. The charmed environment kept the air sharply cool - nothing like the muggy dust beneath their feet for days.

Ivy propped her elbows on her knees, eyeing the sheer cliff face beyond the clearing, and feeling a little wary. It was daunting, no question, sharp and scorched and tall, all the way to the clouds. Yesterday's required climbing lesson had shown them the steps, but trying to scale a steep slope was nothing like what they'd face up there. Then again, after hours of crouching in dirt making potions and picking crushed roots, the prospect of a purely physical challenge was kind of appealing.

"Welcome to your second competition!"

The headmaster's voice rang out over the grounds, amplified by a Sonorus charm that temporarily silenced the music.

Ivy leaned in, watching the wide safety net pulled taut below the bottom of the rock floor, as Headmaster Albretch relayed the safety information and the possibility of igniting red sparks. Safety net, that was great, but Ivy wasn't about to test it. And igniting sparks for a levitation rescue?

Yeah, no.

If she was climbing that rock, Ivy was getting to the top on her own.

When the Headmaster finished his speech and prepared to have the feast brought out to the onlookers, the pavilion roared to life. Assistants began trekking to the crowd carrying harnesses and chalk bags and their particular gear.

Image posted by the memberIvy pushed herself upright and rolled her shoulders, the rush of competitive adrenaline up her back. An assistant handed her equipment and she expertly fastened herself into her harness, cinching it tight around her waist and thighs. She clipped her harness, chalked her hands and gazed down the cavernous arena in front of the wall.

As the assistant indicated that the group was to proceed to the bottom of the cliff, Ivy locked in automatically and without hesitation.

On the night of 21st September, it was a 2.

The crash of sugar rush was AWFUL. He'd still eat candy again. But that meant bad sleep, and his brain was a little more foggier today than usual. Curse this useless meaty vessel that was senstive to something as small as poor sleep.

Still, he had promised himself to attend this climbing event which he had no experience in. Of course not. Anyone who saw him before arriving Hogwarts would know that 'rock climbing' was not an activity easily accessible and available to him. But things were different now. He finally had the tools to engage in it. So here he is.

The gear class at least made sense to him, putting it on and assembling it, easy. Its just simple mechanics. But climbing was a different thing.

And different meant AMAZING

He wasn't as giddy as he was yesterday, with the sugar rush and all. But he was determined to try this out. It was a competition! Demo loved a competition. And one where it seemed fair apart from the fact that they weren't separated by years and therefore, older students would have an abundant change to wi- actually no, nevermind. He couldn't like this competition as much as he could've. Which was a big sigh to him. But what could he do about it? At the veryyyy very least, he could use this as a time to test out his new tools that stood just below his knee.
