More notes. I apologize.
More notes. I apologize.
- Captains have informed me that a nat 1 on ANY spell, even if the bonus from a stat makes it pass the DC, is an automatic spell failure. (Apparently this is just for spells, not for obstacles.) Therefore, Akerrah was UNSUCCESSFUL in her Lumos and cannot attempt to recast Lumos for the rest of the race.
- However, this does not change the fact that the Trees were still passed by this pair, and no other rolls have changed either.
- Original deadline from my moderation post still applies.

Turns out, it was actually really hard to throw things while one attempted to drive, especially if all of one's driving finesse came from skittering a vespa about properly made streets. Rina thought she was great at chucking things at people, but even as she aimed a particularly vicious snowball at one of the guys' heads, he just... ugh, did he have to be so weird-looking? What was with – oh. Well, there went that attempt.
The driving part also wasn't going too well, in the sense that they were only chug-chug-chugging along instead of vrooming. Rina sighed and glanced back at Akerrah to see that her partner's attempt at a spell also hadn't gone as planned. Okay, then, it looked like they would have to win the hard way. Trying to focus on actually doing things had meant that others had pulled ahead, and this was something Rina just couldn't let happen. She hadn't expected racing to be so hard, though, more of a just 'go fast and make winning happen'. Clearly, that wasn't the case.
'Big vroom time, 'kay?' Rina directed the words to Akerrah as if they were forming a question (they weren't). She glanced at the snow beneath them and thought maybe she could chuck a proper snowball this time. Maybe there were better things to throw? Rina wasn't exactly used to playing in the snow, although an ice-ball would be neat, and she wondered if it would hurt to be hit with one of those as much as it did to be hit with one of the balls in the game ice-ball. Only time would tell, and maybe one day she would find out.
She wanted to tell Akerrah to remain vigilant and seize all opportunities, but she wasn't really sure how to phrase that in English, so she just stayed quiet and focused on driving. That, at least, she could do.

The spell didn't fire. And the snowball didn't land. All this while others went zooming past them. Had it been the hesitation over deciding who would drive? Somehow, she didn't think so. Rina was good at driving, she said. And yet, she felt like she was back in her father's taxi telling him to turn and collect the stoplights like jewels.
'Big vroom time, 'kay?' said Rina ahead of her. Akerrah nodded, knowing that was really the only option. "Ouais. Allez, vite!" "Yeah. Go, quickly!" she tried to encouraged the Spaniard. As beads of sweat began to accumulate under her helmet, she realized she should offer some other actual suggestion, but none came to her. The sad reality was that this was a single track, not the vast intersection of winding roadways and urban life. There was only one way: forward. There was no turning off the track or ducking and diving around traffic. Suddenly, she felt even more disappointed than she did when the spell had failed.
Despite this, they managed to easily move past a set of pine cone trees that had appeared on the track. But ahead was something she couldn't identify: small beady-eyed creatures with green-brown claws or pincers. "Qu'est-ce que c'est?" she queried before repeating in English, "What are those?" Whatever they were, hopefully big vroom time would squash them, leaving them in the snow.

The cold was real, even Rosalyn agreed and shivered beside him. Even bundled in layers, Zephyr could feel in through his jacket, to think he was already wearing winter jacket. His breath came out in thick clouds which disappeared instantly into the icy wind. His cheeks sting, his nose tingled, and his fingers stared to feel numb despite his gloves. His body was painfully aware of every motion and every tiny adjustment.
“You’ll eventually warm up once we start moving.” Standing still is the worst part, but then since they're involve in racing with different obstacles, he had a feeling the cold would just get worse as the time passed by. Rosalyn expressed how excited she was and even though he shared her excitement, he couldn't show it properly due to nervousness. He just wished he could feel that loose about it but instead, his chest felt heavy from pressure. This was the last event and the last chance to do well.
She agreed that the track looked difficult but her encouraging tone put him at ease. “We do, we’ve done hard things like this in the past.” At least she was ready and even made a little curtsy which earned a snort from him. “Save that for the podium." He joked back. Once they were strapped in, he checked his gloves and grip again. Once given the go signal to start, they launched from the start line. The sled moved forward and the cold air hit him straight in the face, thanks to the helmet, he's not worried it would hindrance his vision while directing their sled. With every movement, jump, shifted left and right his heart would also jump and skip, it's crazy wild!
They built speed he would actually feel how smooth the snow beneath them. The trees appeared from his sight and he moved a bit to redirect their sled. They cleared that part cleanly. They pushed past the next part without much of an issue and farther ahead, he noticed some small odd creatures but he didn't mind them too much, nor panic of their existence. Back on their farm, animals only cause trouble when you provoke them or scare them. If you leave them alone, they would ignore you, that was something he learned as a child so he didn’t do anything. They passed them without any incident.
His arms were warm now from holding the reins and pulling a lot. Suddenly light snow began to fall. Small flakes landed on his sleeves, “Snow’s starting...” He shouted at Rosalyn without glancing behind him. Deep down, he knew this was just the beginning. The easy parts never last long in competitions like this.

@Zephyr DeakinIMOG Bobsledding"OH MY GOSSHHHHH!!!!!" Rosalyn quiet-screamed, trying not to do so right in Windy's ear. She didn't know how sucessful she was with that venture, however, as she was definitely a bit nervous.
They were zooming, which, frankly, was pretty fun! Almost like they were flying, but not! She was still freezing cold, with the wind as they were going so fast not making it any better, but she was having enough fun to make up for it.
As they started to clear different parts of the track, like trees and some weird little animals, she could see that this wasn't going to be easy. But she had a feeling that the difficulty was going to pick up soon, so she was just along for the ride and hoping nothing bad happened.
"It is, be careful!" she said, trying not to speak too much and distract him once he mentioned the snow. She knew that it may make things more difficult but oh, wow, was it beautiful! The snow wasn't helping her with her frigidness, but it was making everything a lot more pretty!!!
'Thank goodness I pulled my hair back!' she thought, happy that it was all secured in a bun. That would not have been fun, having it whipping everywhere and getting even more tangled up than usual. Thank goodness for her foresight on that one, otherwise they would have been in some trouble!
She thought back to the little creatures they'd seen-she'd read about a lot of them, and thought maybe they were Chizpurfles? Eh, whatever they were didn't really matter, because they'd already gone past that part with no difficulty.Stats-

And so the games begin. Matilde and Phelan were off, gliding across the icy track, the rush of motion imminent. Matilde almost wooped in delight, but didn't want to distract herself or Phelan. Although she thought it would be nice if a distraction would affect the other teams. "Isn't this great?" She said instead, the grin spreading across her face.
They passed through the trees, so far dormant chizpurfles, and snow without a hitch. Matilde caught sight of a projectile wizzing past Phelan, but it missed him by a long shot. It seemed that one of the girls behind the two friends had picked him as her target.
"How are you doing back there, Phe?" She had to yell over the wind whistling in her ears in order for her friend to hear her. He had so far been silent. If she had thought it was cold before, the air now felt like actual ice. She wrapped her scarf a little tighter around her neck.
Looking beside her, Matilde realized that she and Phelan were neck and neck with another of the teams, made up of two fellow Hogwarts students she vaguely recognized. The rest of the teams were further behind. Time would tell the fate of the sledders.

Bobsledding Years 1-3
Phelan's stomach dropped as the bobsled took off, both his insides and his mind not quite moving at the same rate as the sled. Phelan throwing up was the last thing their team needed. Spurred into action at the thought, Phelan attempted to take a few deep breaths to calm himself.
It didn't do much. Matilde made some comment about how much fun she was having. Phelan couldn't see his friend's face, but he didn't need to- he could just about picture perfectly her infectious grin. It was usually enough to make him smile back at her with renewed hope. Maybe it was not actually being able to see her, but for whatever reason, today, it did little to make his worries subside.
Despite his fear, Phelan apparently had it together enough to manage not to get hit by one of his fellow Beauxbaton's incoming projectiles. After they made it through a few rounds of trees and strange creatures, Phelan's panic began to ease slightly. He just had to think of this like a duel. There was still strategy and teamwork.
This time, when Matilde checked in with him, he responded with confidence. Getting an idea, he whispered something in Matilde's ear. Plotting, he could do. The rest would come.
He could do this.

Salim hadn't turned up. And now, I was still at the starting line, while everyone else was quite far on. So, I decided that I would just have to go for it, by myself. All that it meant was that I wouldn't be able to cast as many spells while on the way, however, I was sure that I could still get to the finish line. Admittedly, probably not first place, but maybe I could come third. Or even second.
I saw that two teams were currently drawn in first - one fully Hogwarts, and one half-Hogwarts, half-Beauxbatons. I rolled up my sleeves, and tucked my wand securely up it - I might need it later, but for now, I needed to go as far as I could, as fast as I could, to even stand any chance of coming in the top three.
I set off on the bob-sled, and looked towards the first obstacle - a forest. Everyone else had got through fine, without even using any magic so hopefully I would be able to as well. Then, I saw that once I managed to get through, the next challenge would be to beat the two Beauxbatons girls.

Deakin and Willows found themselves unfortunately on the receiving end of O'Fionnagan's skillfull spellcasting, the victims of a wonderfully cast Alarte Ascendare. Both had to hold on tight as their broom was yeeted high into the air, into thin oxygen and a lovely view of the surrounding Koldovstoretz mountains. Luckily, neither fell off! Meanwhile, Emile was trying to cast at the French girls with a well-placed Flipendo... or maybe not so well-placed, since they seemed to dodge it easily.Hostile Actions
Blaze decided to pack up her broom and fly by her lonesome, skillfully avoiding the branches in the pine tree copse and refusing to cast anything that might wake the chizpurfles. She even managed to hold on to her broom in the easy snowfall! Who needs a partner?Movement Attempts
Meanwhile, Koné and Alacrán decided to sled right on past the people who had paused at the entrance to the snowstorm. Each of them took a snowball to some part of the body from those being pelted by onlookers, but managed to make it out the other side and through the dense fog following the snowstorm. These two Beaux girls were now in the lead... but there was still one round left...
Outcome
Matilde hits Rosalyn and Zephyr with Alarte Ascendare, sending them above the track & unable to move this round.
Phelan's attempt to Flipendo Marina and Akerrah misses.
Cinder sleds 6 and takes no damage to join two other pairs in Unit 6.
Akerrah and Marina sled 6, taking minor damage in the moderate snowfall, to end in Unit 9. Their top speed next round will be 3, not 6.

Bobsledding Years 1-3

The big vroom, it seemed, had paid off. Somehow, Akerrah blinked and it seemed like everyone who had pulled ahead of them before and their earlier failed actions had all blurred behind them. Even those strange crab-like creatures she had enquired about to her companion seemed to fade into the distance and other obstacles would soon follow.
What perhaps surprised her the most was a rogue spell that seemed to be headed in their direction. "Ri—" she tried to her driver's attention as she tried to think of the elusive English command to move one's head out of the way, settling in the moment on, "Goose!" Perhaps that was or was not it, but either way, they managed to avoid whatever the spell had been as they trudged their way forward on the track. For a moment, she wondered if this was backseating, but even if so, it had worked.
But alas, all good things came to an end. They may have dodged a spell, but the snow did not let up as she felt a large and heavy snowball cut right into her shoulder. She tried to clean it off with a rushed hand, but that only brushed it onto the helmet at the high speed they were going. Sighing, she tried to focus on the path ahead and whatever came next.
