These teams seemed to go by the rule "Great minds think alike", because their strategies were essentially identical. Wingers Marie and Shaw both went for the elbowing/cobbing maneouvre (the latter towards Marie herself, who had been targeting Cassidy); both were successful, but both were also caught and sent on penalty laps around the boards lining the rink.Debuff Fouls
Again, identical strategies, some done better than others. Spinks and de Brissac both dove for the puck, Spinks seemingly fine against de Brissac's unsettling aura. The former pulled away with the puck twice and scored both times, with opposing goalie Andrieux even taking a puck to the mask once and maybe coming away with one fewer tooth than before; de Brissac managed to grab the puck thrice, injuring herself in her attempt to get it from Spinks, but only scored twice thanks to the brick wall that was Gemmell in goal.The Puck
Both defensive players were going for your standard High Stick, and only one would succeed, with Buckley seemingly terrified of the dhampir in mid-ice. Meanwhile, whilst Gemmell was seemingly distracted by the movement of the puck, she didn't see Cassidy coming in hot. A stick to the mask caused her to tumble backwards into the goal, and one of the judges, Director Vorozheykin, blew his whistle to pause the game and come in to carry her off. Wizards Playing Hockey would just have to make do without a goalie from now on.The Defence

" HELL YEAH ! " Lachlan was overjoyed to see he had taken out their opponent's goalie with a well-timed High Stick. Usually an Attacker at heart, perhaps he had the skill to take on Defender as well. His eyes lit up at the successful move as he looked at their Winger and gave him a little debris right off of the top of the ice when skating by him. " Don't worry, man. If there's anything I know how to do, its puck. " If Ilvermorny was more like this, he might've enjoyed magic so much more! Oh well, he could always choose to live a boring Muggle life once it was all said and done. It was his parents who thought it to be a good idea to try it out, see how magic might be able to help their ranch and with his foster brother there too, Lachlan needed to keep an eye on 'em. It wasn't until the Goalie was down for a while that Lachlan had felt a pang of remorse for hitting her so hard. He didn't think it was such an intense hit, but the adrenaline to return back to the rink. That was the brutality of Hockey, better to learn now than later. The high five was unexpected, but the wizard was quick to offer it back to the girl who had a strange aura emitting from her like she should not be fucked with. " We got this! Got your back, Brie Sack. " Despite his best effort, the Montana twang could not break up the French word so he simply said the two words that he thought made the most sense. Reseting himself into position, Lachlan had his eye on his next target and was ready to keep the pain coming. |

| ✸ | 𝙈aurice had chosen the position of keeper all the way back in his first year with the sole intention of staying out of harm's way. Traditionally, goalies maintained some degree of protection on account of the fact that they rarely left their post to enter the chaos. A quaffle to the head every now and then was a small price to pay for general immunity. This, however, was an entirely new level of aggression. With shocking immediacy, one of their opponents came spiraling straight towards the goal. Maurice barely managed to register the quick movements before the puck came sailing past him and into the goal. A quiet curse slipped past his lips. Only moments in and he was already screwing them over. If he thought that was bad, the second shot was a nightmare. Not only was he unsuccessful in steeling himself for the soaring puck that shot his way, he was foolish enough to stand right in its direct line, landing him a nasty hit to the face. Stumbling back, he cursed again, this time loud enough he swore it echoed off the distant hills. He could feel the inklings of a nasty bruise blooming beneath his mask, but the game wasn't going to pause for him to recover. He shook his head, skating hastily back into position. It didn't take long for the violence to spin out of control. With visible horror, Maurice watched as his opponent goalie was wiped out on the ice. "Sweet mother Mary..." he mumbled. At Romélie's subtle check-in, Maurice gave a weary thumbs-up back, praying that he'd retain some degree of immunity, or at least let his death be quick and painless. |

Really, the rules ought to be clarified better in Robin's opinion, because where she was from, an elbow to the face was simply a part of the game of hockey. Who knew that the Russians were such babies about a simple jab? That was, until Robin received the exact same treatment from the Subzero's winger, the one that Robin faintly recognized before his elbow came rushing at her very own face from across the ice.
Fortunately, he was pretty obvious about his foul, but unfortunately for Robin, so was she. Rolling her eyes at the fact that she would have to take a penalty lap, Robin was about to open her mouth to say something definitively rude to the boy when she noticed Maisie on the ground, knocked out by a stick to the face from the boy she had just gotten a penalty lap for from her excessive use of elbows. Waiving her arms in the air in frustration, Robin pointed to her unconscious friend on the ground and complained,"Oi! Elbows aren't allowed, but he can knock out my goalie's teeth with his stick!?" Grumbling to herself and annoyed at the fact that the other winger was still talking, she sped ahead, determined to take her penalty lap faster than him. Maisie was the one who had brought this entire team together - what crap luck it was for her to get taken down with one hit. "I should've elbowed you harder. I'm going for blood next time," Robin grumbled mostly to herself as she kicked off to span the entirety of the rink.

For a moment, everything was going wonderfully. Adeline had managed to score not one, but two goals, and her team was holding up surprisingly well for the time being. The high of their success was unfortunately short-lived. Admittedly, Adeline was still a bit fresh when it came to the sport, and what she could truly expect from today's event. Maisie and Robin had warned her many times that "It gets a bit rough on the ice" but she could not have prepared herself to find her dear friend slumped against the goal post so soon into their match. Addie's blue eyes grew wide with a mix of anger and nervousness. Just then a fiery voice cut through the cold, "Oi! Elbows aren't allowed, but he can knock out my goalie's teeth with his stick!?" Robin shouted over the ice, her posture showing her frustration as she sped through her penalty lap. Addie's eyes narrowed at the boy before rolling into her skull.

As it stood, the team was looking.. sparse. Adeline turned to face Fred, doing her best to convey confidence to the first year. "Keep your head high." She began, skating closer to him. "We can't let them see a hint of weakness." Adeline was feeling unusually amped up at the thought of avenging Maisie. Subzero may have the odds on their side, but these hockey playing wizards would not be going down without a fight.
And maybe a few sticks to the face.

At the whistle and start of the match, Frederick surged forward alongside Robin and Adeline, feeling the initial rush of adrenaline. He knew what he was supposed to do and trusted his teammates, especially Maisie, whom he had seen defend the hoops beautifully in the Quidditch match where they had first met. Moving in an attacking formation, he skated across the frozen lake and spotted his target, preparing to strike.
Suddenly, everything seemed to slip into slow motion. Without fully understanding why, as he crossed paths with one of his opponents, the boy froze. He saw Adeline and Robin ahead of him, both carrying out their plays, while he, like an idiot, watched the opposing defender, the very player he should have checked with his stick, speed past him untouched and head straight toward Maisie.
A few moments later, hands trembling, Frederick snapped out of the strange wave of fear that had overtaken him, but by then, it was too late. With a strong sense of injustice burning in his chest, he practically marched back to his side of the rink, as much as one can march on ice skates, and looked toward Adeline, the only teammate left in position at that moment, with Robin serving her penalty lap.
When he heard Spinks’ encouraging words, now closer to him, Fred gave a single nod. “We got this.” Deep down, he felt embarrassed for having failed in front of the three girls, especially in such an unusual way. But that could wait. Maybe after the match, when he checked on Maisie to see if she was okay, he could apologize. Thinking of his teammate, he lifted his stick into the air and prepared once more to rejoin the play. “For Maisie!”

In what seemed to be an odd bit of déjà vu from last round, Spinks and de Brissac were once again battling it out for the puck with de Brissac's scary mug causing absolutely no reaction in the opposing Center. Unfortunately, unlike last round, Spinks' success rate plummeted with no chance of her grabbing the puck - and because goalie Gemmell was out for the count and being treated by medics off the rink, the third-year had no problem with scoring five whole times in a row. Empty nets can be cruel that way.The Puck
Once again we have two High Sticks in play, and only one successful. Whilst Shaw and Marie were skating off to the penalty box to await their two-minute penalties, a solid bit of high sticking from Cassidy put Marie facedown on the ice. A whistle blew, and medics went to grab her, too, leaving the Subzero team with a two-man advantage. However, Buckley's attempt to take revenge and bring it back to only one man down would miss entirely.The Defence
