"Yes, cut them down! Fire worked before. I'll try it again!"

The voice echo'd behind her, one she did not know. Looking over her shoulder, she could identify a small boy with strange ears (@Harvey Barrows) who seemed, too, to be working on addressing whatever this situation was. He seemed to cast a simple fire spell, which perhaps would be more useful, but she didn't know. Still, she nodded at him. "Fire, bon," she said, "Merci, thank you, for the idea."

Her mind ran through her spell list while her brown eyes followed the movements of his wand in case she needed to imitate them. Somewhere not far off she thought she heard a second person call out the same incantation. Was magic so simple for all of them? One spell for each problem? If only hers did something.

And by some miracle, it did. The dark-haired girl (@Ruth Fairchild) was free—until she wasn't. The vine had dropped to the ground—and the girl with it—but somehow it grabbed her again. Unless it was a different vine or tree or whatever this was. It didn't matter. It pulled the girl away. She looked across at the boy who'd give her the idea before attempting, "Incendio." Maybe fire power was just thing it needed to let go of her companion, who she hadn't even gotten to know. Meanwhile, the shrieking of others (@Sabrina Lyons) only made clear what the alternative was.

Otherwise, she'd have to look around her for a taxi she could drive into the plant creature—into the hole the goblin boy had made with his fire.

Harvey looked on with widened eyes. He had seen magic cast time and time again while at school, but this would be the first time in his life that he had seen it deployed with such ferocity. Arcane energies popped, sizzled and cracked through the night's air as they desperately attempted to free the victims from the terrible monster. Assuming they survived, Harvey might one day look back on this night and be proud of himself for expertly casting under such pressure. Already at such a young age the boy's education was paying off as he sent a blast of flames that pierced through the vines, but it did little to deter the beast as it simply just put itself back together.

The group of rescuers would make some headway though. Soon enough the monster was bound, disassembled and at least in that moment, unable to heal. However, it would not be going down without a fight. Harvey cried out in pain as thorny vines erupted from the ground and slashed across his body. It dropped him to his knees as his vision popped with stars. Tears fell from his eyes as panic threatened to overwhelm him, but with a squeeze of his long fingers he held firm to his wand. His legs shook and his arms trembled, yet with a mighty heave he rose back to his feet.

Harvey took a deep breath and swallowed the sob that was caught in his throat. He gathered courage from the action of those around him as his allies continued to fight. With a swipe of his arm he wiped away the tears in his eyes and looked over the battle field. The witch that fought nearby had successfully severed the vine holding Ruth, but even still it was attempting to drag her away. Harvey racked his mind for what to do to save his friend and a moment later his wand was swishing through the air.

"Immobulus!" It may do little good, but if he could freeze the severed vine while Akerrah burned it, maybe it would be destroyed.

Hanako would wait not so patiently for the old man's answer or reaction, as suggested by the excessive spinning of his wand between his fingers and his foot being tapped. To a strangers eyes, it could have looked as if he couldn't care less about the chaos that was happening several feet away. His eyes watched the younger years having more guts than him, heading straight into the chaos of the night, as if they had 9 lives.
@Sabrina Lynons
He flinched hearing a familiar voice of his housemate. One that he had failed miserably in saving and he had to physically restrain himself from making another jest for her to focus on. Like asking if she knew that if she closed her eyes, she couldn't see anything. Which resulted him in lifting up his shoulders tensing almost up to his hears before releasing them with a laugh. Yes - a laugh. One so hallow yet jittery, almost mocking.

" C'mon Lyons! You really gonna lose to a plant with such a boring diet? Put your back into it!" He attempted to encourage rather loudly in his ... Hanako way.
Enraged thorned vines through the ground that lashed out at Harvey, Leonardo, Lesmana and Akerrah hitting 3 out of 4.
@Lesmana Asmaralaya
His jittery-ness, no longer half-awake, ended up serving him well. He was just near the professor before the vines violently lashed out at him, totally uninterested in Hanako. Had it been because he hadn't attacked the vines yet? It was like they had their own emotions. Perhaps they (the vines) weren't only thinking about how to feed themselves.

" Ouch - Old man .. did you skip gym day?" He unconsciously allowed the jest to escape his lips. , regretting it as he realized what was said. But it would look weirder if he took it back so he decided to zip it.
Hana discovered through the connection with his wand that the creature was imbued with dark magic.
Hanako froze feeling an unfamiliar flow of magic through his wand. What the. His first thought moved to telling it to shut up. Aware that his core sometimes resonated with his own emotions and Hanako didn't need advertising the fidgety way he carried himself. But then he remembered the other thing that his wand could do: Dark Magic.

He felt his blood run cold and he was eerily quiet for a moment, his gaze focused on his wand.

" Dark magic.." he says at first to no one in particular, though loud enough to be heard if anyone was nearby. Realizing what he did, he coughed as if drinking something disgusting against his will.

@everyone/anyone reading
" UHHH WELL - " he clapped his hands, trying to be as loud as his voice, a casual grin on his face as if the persistent danger didn't exist and everyone around him getting hurt. " This slimy slittery thing that has no sense of boundary got Dark Magic involved in it- WHO KNEW~ !" He sarcastically said loudly, as if part exasperated and part entertained. " I could not have guessed that, NOPE - not at all~ ".

Oh wait maybe the creature didn't speak english. He cleared his throat again and spoke in parseltongue instead, ( to the plant creature) " IN CASE YOU DIDN'T HEAR ME, WE'D LIKE YOU A LOT MORE IF YOU LEARNED TO GIVE PEOPLE PERSONAL SPACE, AIGHT? A little trim here and there and you'd look fab~ "

What were the odds the creature understood more Parseltongue than English? Hanako didn't care at this point, really. He just needed to yell so he doesn't feel like his heart is going to burst out of his chest soon.

What was he even supposed to do with this knowledge? His mind was racing with all sorts of thoughts and more than half of them was more sarcasm.

There was so much chaos happening all around him, Jack wasn't quite sure what to do. He was already having doubts after his prior certainty before had managed to cause other students to get into deeper trouble with the plant-thing because he had made a mistake and given his underclassmen the wrong instructions.

Then, however, he heard Hanako next to him mention that the thing had something to do with Dark Magic. That gave him ideas. What was good against dark magic? A Patronus? Well, there was that, but a far more simple spell - the Green Sparks Charm - came to mind.

Jack remembered studying it more intensely when he had been practicing for dueling and Hanako had brought something interesting about it to his attention. Not only was the Green Sparks Charm said to be good for offensive use, but it was also said to be used to reveal objects hidden by Dark Arts.

If he used it, perhaps it could show him where the largest concentrations of the Dark Arts were and they could attack those locations. Or maybe there was more hidden in the vines like someone or something powering them with Dark Magic. Regardless, he knew what course of action to take then.

"Verdimillious!" he called out loudly and clearly, performing the proper wand movements as he spoke the incantation with practiced pronunciation. He didn't dare risk getting any little part of the spell wrong for fear of what could happen to others if he were to make another mistake.

Though Jack couldn't speak parseltongue, he could understand it, and the words he heard coming out of Hanako's mouth brought an involuntary grin to his face. Leave it to Hanako to bring levity to such a serious situation.

MODERATION ROUND TWO
Spurred by his previous failure @Damian Dragonclaw was the first to act. Having steadied his balance from the monster's earthly tremors ,he readied his wand once more and while reassuring Cyrus he would be back for him, pressed on to save Alphonse. This time would not be so unfortunate, without lashes of fire lancing overhead he was able to get the spell work right and slashing out from his wand a sever of air cut the vines strangling Alphonse clean off. It was almost a moment to celebrate but just as he was about to the vine trapping him held on tight and just as it had for Ruth, it began dragging him deeper into the jungle. Damien distraught at the hurt of both his success but failure would see clearer as the boy fell, that @Alphonse Toussaint had now lost consciousness, allowing the vine to move far more easily.

On the other side, teamwork found a perfect pairing in Ms @Akerrah Koné and Mr @Harvey Barrows. Despite having never stood side by side before their magic intertwined like it had always meant to connect. Harvey the small boy who packed a punch with fire had given the inspiration to Akerrah and seeing her incantation had opted for the role of assistance rather than just fire power. The result meaning that not only would they save @Ruth Fairchild but that they would completed annihilate the subject of their torture. Freezing the disgusting inky tendril of vine in the air with a magnificent immobulus, Harvey set up the perfect amount of distance for Akerrah's flames to eviscerate it to dust. Yet despite their best efforts Ruth only managed a feint smile before passing out, safe, but unconscious.

@Hanako Tone's sarcasm would not be appreciated by the creature but was perfect for those of the living to enjoy, especially given the gravitas of the situation. Humour was always a great tool and he may not know just how powerful it was, or how inspiring he could be. For Hana did not only inspire one Ms @Sabrina Lyons to rally at his call but he summoned some new friends eager to assist in protecting their home. Sabrina would manage to wrangle free from the binds summoning a level of strength alien to her petite form, for maybe she knew if she did not she would be this devil's dinner. Instead she calmed herself and as she felt the binds release ever so slightly, she fought through and catching a moment of hesitation within the corrupted plant managed to slip free and land squarely upon the floor. She was free, but in the daze of confusion she could not quite come to move yet to safer ground.

So while Hana would do nothing of magical significance in helping, he did still help save one homesteader that he previously could not. Yet it would not be his main achievement as the twisting snarls of his Parseltongue brought forth another ally from the thick jungle bush. Hissing back in Parseltongue a cacophony of slithering voices echoed back like a hive mind, "he ssspeaks the tongue, it has been many long yearss since a sserpent speaker has come ashore, you wissh for your personal ssspace, we sssshall assssist." Before the most elegant wash of colourful snakes, began rooting in between the vegetation hissing at the darkened vines and striking with their venomous bite throughout it.

Emerging from the chaos @Jack Burnett did not just strike first ask questions later. The intelligent snake put his senior mind to good use and listening to the real importance behind Hana's quirk and jest he came up with a rather ingenious idea. Thinking back on his knowledge of dark magic he knew that a very basic spell could be used to quite literally shed light on areas imbued with darkness. It was a shot in the dark but one that would pay off superbly. As the emerald bolt sparked from his wand the vines where illuminated in new garishly green light that showed tendrils within the vines of a black ichor like substance that was undoubtedly dark and each tendril linked back to a singular source down in the centre of the creatures lower body, where vine met earth. It was clear as anything where they had to attack, now he just had to hope the others were as intuitive as him to understand it. Still, Jack's pride would quickly waver in a sight he alone would see, for while the source of the darkness had become clear, there was a far thicker, more aggressive looking strain leading back to where the students were being taken. Further into the jungle, something extremely dark was lurking, and this fight was only the beginning.

As if noticing Jack's invasion of privacy to what lay deeper the creature began to wail out in a vile, animalistic screech. @Leonardo Chiadovini's fire dwindled and extinguished, perhaps from the attack he had sustained, or simply the chaos of the situation. Regardless the creature was no longer severed and its restraints too had faltered as our only other adult @Lesmana Asmaralaya seemed to have lost himself in the cataclysm. Whatever happened to these once brave souls had gone askew and now the creature found itself once again free. Wasting no time it severed its own limbs that were holding the remaining unconscious students, @Cyrus Darsel, @Elias Travers, and @Livia Machavariani and sent them further into the jungle, along with Alphonse, where the darkness beckoned.

When it's tendril limbs were no more the creature shifted once more and became a thick wall of harsh thorned vines, overlapping, and intertwining. The wall dividing our survivors and those that had been taken off to dark. Although if one thing had been clear from Jack's spell, what lay for them back there was much worse than the walled beast that faced them, and if they were going to rescue their friends, they would have to find a way over, find a way around, or the best option, find a way to tear this damn wall down.

Ensnared: Stage 2 - Moderation Round 2
Summary:
  • Damien manages to finally free Alphonse from the grasp of the creature but only slightly, as although the vine is cut he is still restrained, causing him to become unconscious and start being dragged away.
  • In a brave act of teamwork an unconscious Ruth is saved from the vine hauling her away by Harvey and Akerrah who freeze and annihilate the entity dropping her to the ground out the way of the creature.
  • Hana in a sarcastic display of uselessness would not attempt to help any of the restrained children who were losing consciousness, opting instead for snark and snakes. The later of which at least summoned the spirit of the Isle to help where the adults did not.
  • Jack having taken his time to appear would waste no time in hearing the importance behind Hana's words. Dark magic was the key, and with an ingenious use of an otherwise rudimentary spell located the source of the creatures power and a far more worrying revelation that the spark that comprised this beast, was nothing in comparison to the ley line of dark magic rooting behind it towards where the students were being dragged.
  • Despite her previous failed attempts, Hana's goading or "support" allowed Sabrina to finally break through from her captor's constricting grasp right as she was about to fall unconscious. Though dropping to the floor she found herself too hazy to be able to do much.
  • With their injuries sustained, Lesmana and Leonardo seem to have lost their nerve and failed to remain holding their spell allowing the creature to alter its form and resist its restraint.
  • Severing its own tendril arms Cyrus Darsel, Elias Travers, Alphonse Toussaint, Ruth Fairchild, and Livia Machavariani are all hauled backwords towards whatever darkness awaited them deeper in the jungle. They are all considered unconscious as they are not taking part in the adventure. With that the creature reformed itself into a wall of vine and darkness preventing all but Ruth from being rescued unless it is destroyed.

Akerrah did not see it at first—or if she did, it was in her periphery—but the odd looking boy had backed up her spell with one of his own. Their earlier terse exchange had resulted in a wonderful moment of teamwork, which had in turn freed her housemate. Her eyes widened as she watched the young girl's body drop to the ground. "Mon dieu," she said softly, unbelieving. Her natural urge was to run forward and check on her (not that she knew what to look for besides perhaps a pulse, if she could do that correctly), but the way the vines curled up into a monster made her hesitate.

"Monsieur," she addressed the goblin boy, "What to do now?" Knowing no one here, he was the closest thing she had to someone trustworthy. She recalled the first person she had seen had been an adult (perhaps an instructor?), but in the chaos she did not know where he had gone. Her brown eyes drifted to her wand, which had served her well so far. And yet, somehow, she still wished it were a rock she could simply throw. She wished for her father's taxi. She wished to drive it through the wall of vines and free a friend. She wished to have a friend. She wished many things.

But most of all, she wished not to feel the dizzying feeling she so often experienced in moments of stress. What had Madame called it again? Well, it didn't matter. She had to keep calm. Raising her wand, she looked back at the boy for some kind of reassurance, before firing off a Flipendo at the vine creature. Would this be more or less effective than the fire and freezing? She had no idea. But she knew more about taxis than about magic.

ENGLISH & PARSELTONGUE
Sabrina Lynos is released from vines
" Oh my god. YES ! THATS IS, KID! SHOW THOSE VINES WHOSE BOSS!", Hanako hardly had any energy left to hide the genuine relief and grin when he saw Sabrina finally away from the vines - but er she didn't look good. But Hanako didn't think too much on that second part just yet. She was not being suffocated and that was a good start. Even if there was still a chance she was going to yell at him if he came over. He was still.. shaky. And he had the choice to be hyperly excited/sarcastic - or just.. there. Half of his mind later will hope that Sabrina will forget this little exchange once they get to safety.

Hanako came up to the unconscious girl. His months of being a healer under internship skills kicking in when one needed it the most.

" Oi" he gently nudged the girl with his shoe. " R u dead? You can't be dead. Stop sleeping and wake up, Im not saving you if you get taken again" he warned the girl, continuously gently nudging her lifeless looking body with his shoe.

Hanako accidentally summoned an snake-ey army after dissing the creature. + Jack casting green sparks.
He hadn't thought much on his words. It wasn't uncommon for him to use this language while he was feeling particularly emotional. There was no expectation for the creature to retort back, or anyone to really. At most he had expected between an incredulous look or a snicker from Jack. The swarm of snakes? Not at all. " Whatdehell -" escaped him as he took a step back, the familiar language.

Clearly not used to random snakes talking to him in a while. " W-wait o-oh jeez- " he watched in unease as the snakes went to attack the vines instead. Well… at least Hanako didn't have to worry about the vines attacking him if poison was in their system. It was then that Jack's spell revealed something that made Hanako's eyes widened.

" Huh - " he couldnt help but let out a laugh, mixed with releif. " Oh , leave it to you to use something else other than fire and flipendos. What is that even…" The root. Of course. " Oh … what do we… do .. about that.." he warily glanced at everyone else that seemed to be focused on attacking it willy nilly.
Creature screamed at @Jack Burnett invasion of privacy Hanako tensed, immediately covering his ears at the screech.
" Great, now what? Do we review our facts now? Light doesn't work, flames seem to just trap them, its dark magic so poison might not work either … c'mon put that good olde charms expert brain to good use", he jokes though his tone was flatter than earlier.

" What the- its like a friggin lizard! Gross !" Cutting out its own tendrils? What the hell… ". The creature seemed to be setting a clear line between them and the people it wanted. " Aw Jack, you made it shy" he managed to joke out. Though now this is just… a new problem. " Great! Jeez - and I thought I was good at making walls around people trying to get close to me" he uttered without much thought in Parselmouth followed by a groan.

" Bunch of useless thorny vines.. hey - snakes? are you guys ….?" Hanako grimanced, finally taking the brave next few steps towards the creature. " Whats going on … is there a way to see whats behind there? Is there something behind this stupid thing? Something useful? "

Hanako drifted his gaze back to Jack. " Okay… whats a charm that usually shoo's away dark magic? You're better at spells than me - would weird magic fire work? Blue ish fire whats its called.. bluebells? more fire? er ... well immobulus isn't going to be doing much now isn't it?".
Interacting with : @Akerrah Koné and @Harvey Barrows

He then turned to the other survivors so far, one already ready to point their wand at the wall bravely. Well - they were much braver than he was at least. He didn't want to potentially urge the thing to attack him for annoying it further with spells instead of words. " Hey , Kid Number 2#" He called out the girl, thinking introductions were the least on their minds right now. " You're friend doesn't look too good and you're asking him what to do?", he couldn't help but playfully mock despite the situation now. " Where are you even hitting it? It looks completely different now than it did a second ago. Or did you miss the part where it removed it's own viney thinggies. "

Clearly - Kid 2# (Akerrah ) and Kid3# (Harvey) did a lot more earlier, with their impressive feat between the freezing and incendio to save what Hanako presumed were their friends. But he figured… this was not the place for praises. " Hey " he called out to the other kid that looked like part goblin. " You look way too worn out. Do you even know a spell to heal yourself?" he scoffed. (If talking to snakes isn't an action, Hanako would attempt to heal the goblin.

To say Damien was irritated was a understatement, he absolutely was so over these stupid vines. Just when it had looked like he was almost closer to freeing Alphonse from the vines they decide to pull Cyrus and Him further into them as they had sunken back deeper into a wall of vines. If Damien had a temper he would have probably said a lot of curse words right now but his mother had raised him to always have patience but he was also taught to adapt in any situation he was in and he planned to do just that.

He looked around to notice if anything stood out to him about these vines but noting seemed to be different. He decided casting his spell at an angle would be beneficial as it meant he could hopefully attempt to free both of them if the plan worked in his favor.

He got his wand out once again before taking and deep breath and whispering to him. “Just hold on you two…I’ll get you free” Damien let out a few sigh before he pointed his wand and said the incantation, he hopped this time that it all genuinely worked as he was honestly getting fed up with these stupid vines holding his friends hostage. “Diffindo!”

Although Harvey's body ached where he was attacked by the creature, he was emboldened further when his spell in tandem with Akerrah's proved powerful enough to destroy the severed vine. It was a small act against such a massive, dark creature, but it proved that it could at least be vanquished. Harvey instinctively drew closer to the witch as power in numbers seemed to be their only hope. "We have to keep working together." He answered her query. Akerrah couldn't have been much older than them if they weren't the same age, but she had proven herself to be a reliable ally. It seemed that their opposing spells had been just enough to overwhelm the creature. "I'll follow your lead."

It would be then that a flash of green sparks burst and ignited within the beast. Though the magic did little to damage the creature, there was a brief moment in which it illuminated what seemed like the core of the horrid thing. One would never call it a heart for such a wicked monstrosity surely did not have one, but every living thing in this world had a source of power. "Look there!" Harvey called out to those fighting, his elongated fingers hopefully drawing their attention as he pointed at the black ichor substance in which the vines were growing from. "Aim for it's center!"

Another voice drew Harvey's attention as Hanako drew closer. "No. I usually keep a potion around for healing purposes." It was true. Harvey hadn't mastered any healing spells yet and he would surely kick himself for not doing so. His reliance on a steady flow of potions from his grandfather's storeroom had left him at a disadvantage considering they were tucked away neatly in his satchel back at their housing. If the other boy's healing spell worked Harvey would thank him before turning his attention back to the creature.

Akerrah would attempt to fire off a Flipendo at the beast. An interesting choice, but one that had no time to be analyzed. Harvey racked his brain for a spell that would compliment the knock back jinx. If she was able to blast it, maybe he could help her magic take effect! Harvey aimed for the creature's center mass. "Spongify!"
