Case No. 01: The Fire Crab

Courage was often defined as having the ability to do something that frightens you or to show strength in the face of pain. Damien was surely accomplishing both of those things as he stared down this fire crab. This was not the most dangerous animals in the world, but with the ability to shoot fire and armed with strong pincer, this was no house cat they were trying to fend off. Even if part of the motivation was to prove to his father that he was a capable young wizard, the boy should leave here today knowing he excelled in the face of danger! Though pain was now shooting through his boy as the crab clamped down on him, Damien reloaded the sling and looked to finish off this beast just as it went in for another pincer attack!Perhaps the pain was becoming too much for young Damien to bear! The sling attack would fail and snap back at the boy, hitting him hard in the face with a painful sting. Just then the crab would lash out with its other pincer, again striking Damien on the other leg. He had now been burned and pincered twice by this wild crab! How much more could he withstand?! Howard was determined to end this here and now. "Hold on, Damien! I'm coming!" The two had only know each other for this short amount of time, but Howard had taken a liking to him. He sprung to his feet, balled his fist and lashed out at the beast as it shot another bout of flames in his direction!
- Crab's HP: 219
- Damien's attack accuracy: Rolling at disadvantage due to crab's pincer attack. Rolls: 1 & 11 = critical failure for rolling a 1.
- Crab's evasion: N/A
- Damien's attack damage: Slingshot attack fails. Sling snaps back at Damien for 50 damage.
- Damien's HP: 325 - 50 - 100 = 175 health remaining
- Crab's attack (pincers): 4 + 10 accuracy = 14 (success)
- Damien's evasion: 1 + 5 evasion = critical failure for rolling a 1.
- Crab's damage: 75 + 25 extra damage for Damien's critical failure = 100
Howard did not even try to evade the crab's attack. He needed to end this fight and make sure that Damien was alright. With a mighty leap he jumped straight through the flames and landed a knockout punch against the fire crab. Howard would be a bit crispy, but at least their foe was finally vanquished. With a couple more wavering steps the crab would release its hold on Damien and stumble to its side. It retracted its head into its protective shell all out of fight and it could now be safely captured.
- Crab's HP: 219 - 306 = -87 (knockout)
- Howard's attack accuracy: 4 + 21 accuracy = 25 (success)
- Crab's evasion: 2 + 10 evasion = 12 (fail)
- Howard's damage: [100 x 21 str x 0.9]/5 = 306
- Howard's HP: 1500 - 150 = 1350 health remaining
- Crab's attack (flames): 2 + 10 accuracy = 12 (success)
- Howard's evasion: 1 + 21 evasion = 22 (critical failure due to rolling a 1)
- Crab's damage: 100 + 50 extra due to Howard's critical fail
"Damien!" Howard rushed to the boy and would help check his wounds. Nothing a bit of magic couldn't sort out, but at least he would have one hell of a story to tell his friends. "We did it! Good job, lad!" Howard patted the boy on the back. "Now, help me bag this thing up, so we can return it to safety."
Congratulations! The adventure has ended in success! Well done!

When he pulled back the slingshot attempting to hit the fire crab before the slingshot SnapBack at him hitting him in the face. Damien let out a loud groan as he laid back on the ground his face now hurting. But his pain would get much worse as the crab had pinched down in his other leg releasing a strong throbbing pain through his body. “Ah! As he yelled out in pain he laid there realizing his decision wasn’t the best one he probably couldn’t make but he truly doubted he had the strength to move the pincer off of his leg so at least it was worth the gamble but now all he could hope was that Howard had a way out for both of them. As his body stared to feel the pain even more he felt exhausted as maybe it was the adrenaline wearing off or maybe just the pain making him feel drained but he felt like he was going to pass out. He heard in the distance the faint sound of Howard calling out to him telling him to hold on and that he was on his way. He wasn’t sure if he could hold on if he was honest as his body felt like it wanted to shut down right then and there so he could regain at least some of his energy as this pincer was surprisingly more painful then he though. He started to think of things to keep his mind off of the pain as the whole situation could have been much worse as he could have ended up being poisoned now that was something he wouldn’t want to experience at all. Suddenly Damien turned his head to see Howard jumping straight through the the fire landing the knocked out punch to the fire crab. Damien swore it was something in one of those fairy tales book his mother would read to him when he was younger as it just seemed so in real. Damien was slowly going in and out of consciousness before he slowly opened his eyes and saw Howard in front of him checking up on him. Damien smiled at him as he heard him cheer that they had did it and managed to subdue the fire crab. Damien slowly stood up with Howard’s help as he looked at him excited. “That’s…that’s great and okay…though I feel a little light headed just a bit” He said as he tried to make sure he could stay standing properly. Howard was right about one thing he would definitely tell all his friends all about it this school year as he hopped they went on more adventures. Damien had a quick idea as he had a good idea to start a scrap book with photos of events from this summer and his school year so he could keep them. “Hey Howard…could we um..take a photo if you have a camera ? I want to keep this as a memory to keep somewhere safe and to show others” He said cherishing the ideas before realizing if he ever got any scars from adventure if he went on more with Howard he would use those to tell the others about them. |
