Once Aleks's arms encircled the older girl's neck, it was as if a floodgate opened. As dried up of tears as EmmaLee thought she had been, apparently there was much more. She wrapped her pale arms around the younger girl's waist and clung to her like a life raft as a sob escaped her throat.
It wasn't like she hadn't sat like this with Alura and Grace during almost the whole days before and after Kiernan's funeral. In the days directly before and after especially, the three girls had simply lain in one another's beds in a heap of pale and tan, red, white, and yellow hair, and tears, unable to find words for their loss. They simply cried at the idea that one of their four would soon be in the ground and then they cried that he was in the ground.
There was something different about Aleks's compassion though that broke the dams in EmmaLee again. Maybe it was because Alura and Grace were still able to comfort each other within the walls of Ilvermorny and she was all alone. EmmaLee always felt the pang and really, maybe a certain amount of jealousy that her best friends were all together in a school without her. Their letters were..... a substitute, but not nearly as comforting as being able to cry on Aleks's shoulder like this. Especially when the other girl's immediate comfort at her declaration somehow gave EmmaLee permission to actually feel her feelings.
All of a sudden, the well of emotions EmmaLee had been stuffing down like soiled laundry overflowed. EmmaLee was angry that she STILL had to come back here after all this, angry and jealous that Alura and Grace were able to grieve together and she at least felt all alone, angry and guilty that she had probably been laughing with Stephen while Kiernan fell to his death, angry that she did feel guilty about that, how was she to know? She was angry at Kiernan's father for not being quick enough, then guilty again for blaming someone who was definitely hurting more than she was.
When EmmaLee's tears finally slowed and all of her extra emotions were done dripping down her face, Aleks spoke, gently admonishing her for not taking care of herself, she wiped her wet cheeks with the heels of her hands, then allowed the girl to help her stand.
"C'est vrai....Ahem.. That is true." She said, slipping into French as she usually did when particularly upset. It was as if her brain couldn't process emotions and language at the same time. Her accent was also thicker in her misery, shedding her time in America and Scotland like an uncomfy sweater. EmmaLee chuckled a little and pulled her sleeves over her hands so she could wipe her cheeks better with the cloth.
Interestingly enough, she didn't feel stupid or embarrassed or out of place putting herself and her emotions in Aleks's hands. The girl seemed cold and bored on the outside and in her mannerisms, but it was clear that she did want to care about people. Just that something, maybe her own trauma was holding her back.
"As much as I love my 'air, I think eet will be easier now that I don' 'ave to wash eet." She said, with a very small smirk. "Eet takes 'aurs normally and I just couldn't bring myzelf to do eet." She turned to the still-sopping pile of greyish-white hair and raised an eyebrow at it, not sure what to do with it now.

A Short Cut to Friendship
Aleksandra held onto EmmaLee a strange thing to the young girl she was not one to hug or even think of giving sympathy to, but maybe it was the fact the older girl was truly hurting and Aleksandra could think of the only thing that could help. After all, her aunt always mentioned how the girl's hug seemed healing. Though Aleksandra doubted that, maybe it was just the thought that counts.
Gently embracing the girl, feeling her arms around her waist as the older girl buried her into her shoulders, Aleksandra just gently brushed her fingers through the girl's now short hair. Her gray eyes were softened as she just looked upwards taking in the older girls scent as the tears seemed to stain the younger girls robes sleeves. But Aleksandra did not mind; it was not like she could not throw her robes to the side; the elves would end up gathering the dirty laundry anyways.
But hearing the older girls sobs seemed to make Aleksandra’s heart ache truly the pain that EmmaLee was going through it made the girl confused she never lost anyone to death before she never experienced that true pain and she hoped she never truly would, but losing someone you would never seen again she could understand. EmmaLee Aleksandra felt sorry for the poor girl must felt betrayed and angry as if the world was against her. But maybe she was not Aleksandra had no idea how the girl felt as she continued to embrace her.
As if time seemed to go by slowly as the two girls were embracing each other Aleksandra continued to stare upwards thinking quietly waiting for the older girl to settle down. Once the older girl had settled down Aleksandra felt EmmaLee let go of the younger girl as she stood up. Glancing down at the older girl as Aleksandra held her hand out for the older girl helping her up.
As the duo stood up EmmaLee spoke though at first she said something in a different language which Aleksandra was not sure what it was, but she did not think much of it. Even though the older girl seemed to agree with Aleksandra she could not blame her after all she was correct in the matter and she knew it.
Aleksandra glanced over at EmmaLee with a monotone expression curious though now that a pile of sopping wet hair was on the floor of the lavatory. Of course they could easily clean up the mess and throw it in the trash can. That was the obvious thing to do to clean up the mess the girl’s have done, was the proper thing to do after all.
Standing up straight the young girl glanced down holding her hand out to EmmaLee waiting for her to grasp her hand to leave their was still time to go eat before the food disappeared after all she was sure EmmaLee was hungry after all.![]()
