The Silky Red Ribbon of a Skiving Snackbox
'This is easier than I originally thought, I already have a best friend.' Corvinus beams, taking the Puking Pastille that Mamori had handed her. "I'll treasure this, maybe I'll need it for the time I'd be able to think outside the box." She said as she pocketed the treat, only to realize how rude she may have appeared for simply just taking it. She pulls it back out.
"Hey, wait! I'll pay for my own piece! How much was it?" Corvinus shuffled about, her hands patting her pockets in an attempt to to search for her own wallet. Once found, she gave him an expectant look, waiting for a reply.
Corvinus' eyes twinkle with elation, excitement filling her nerves upon hearing about keeping a connection even after this encounter. "Sounds great! I'll be sure to send you some cookies my nanny makes every weekend, if that's even possible. I don't usually send letters out so I hope it works! My nanny's cookies are the best! I'll even bring some to the express on the first day if it doesn't work out with the owl— I hope you have no foodie allergies or anything!"
She jumps in absolute joy, almost forgetting how many people are jammed in the shop. "I'll send you an owl this weekend— with the cookies, of course! I've got nothing to do, really, so I'll try to reply as quickly as possible!"

When Corvinus insisted on paying for the Puking Pastille, Mamori waved her off. "No trouble, it's a bestie gift," he added with a smile. "This is how friendship works, right? Sometimes I'll treat you, and next time you can treat me. It's all about looking out for each other and sharing the fun. "
Corvinus jumped for joy, and Mamori was just about to when a familiar voice made him freeze in the noisy tavern. It was his father's voice. He turned and found his father standing at the entrance, the man's trademark never-meaning smile worn precariously on eyes that did not share in the joy of the moment. The room seemed to tighten a little with this added layer of tension as those eyes eventually found him; it was all they needed to silently reiterate who held actual command here.
His father called out, his voice calm and evenᅳ the kind that could fool anyone into thinking everything was fine. But Mamori wasn’t deceived. "I thought we agreed you'd stay put at Sugarplum's."
A knot tightened in Mamori's stomach as he met his father's eyes, then quickly offered a smile of apology. "Dad! I was just walking around a little. Besides, I met Corvinus. She is going to be my best friend at Hogwarts."
His father's smile remained but his eyes grew keen only for Mamori. "That's great, son. I'm happy you're making friends. But we really should be going. We have a lot to do and your mother, well, you know how she gets worried..."
Mamori felt a bead of sweat trickle down his back. He then turned back to Corvinus, still trying to keep his smile steady despite the pressure. "I should go; I'll send you new letters by owl once in a while. Just remember to write back, okay? Also don't worry, no food allergies here, I will be very excited to eat the cookies! If the whole owl thing doesn't work out well, then definitely those cookies on the train!" With that, he gave her a quick wave before adding on, "Bye, Cor! I'll be seeing you soon!"
Thereafter, the gentle yet solid hands of Mamori's father fell heavily on Mamori's shoulders and steered him nonchalantly out of the shop. They elbowed their way speedily through crowded Diagon Alley while the old man engaged in small talk with such cool, calming finesse. But Mamori knew better; he knew that as soon as they were out of earshot, it would cease to be so casual. Lesson learnedᅳ he'd definitely be more cautious next time before sneaking off.
