Scavenger Hunt Summer Camp 2024 The Concessions

Colby waited for the next clue for what seemed like awhile. It made sense that she had to wait for there to be more individuals figuring out the first clue before revealing the second. And from the looks of it, there were quite a bit of people who arrived shortly after her. This time around, however, Colby took her time in figuring out the second clue when it was finally ready to be revealed.

Colby used the same technique as she did with the other riddle. She read it over and over again, finding words that stuck out like a sore thumb. As she read, there were words or phrases such as snacks that caught her eye. Within the stadium, it was obvious where the best place would be to get snacks: the concessions.

Excitedly, Colby made her way to the concession stand where there were different magical treats for a lot of money. There was a sense of want of chocolate frogs, but Colby held herself back from grabbing them. Right now, she wanted to keep going with the scavenger hunt and hopefully win.

Just like the last area, there were three piles to choose from. Colby looked back at the riddle and saw another word or phrase that caught his attention: Some accessories to jazz up your ensemble. Colby went closer to the piles and saw three items before her: bowties, scarves and necklaces. All of them can be added as an accessory to any outfit. But which one. Colby looked back to the riddle and read the next line: Don't be fooled by fanciful things, the true prize is far more humble. Necklaces are fancy, so Colby took it out of the running. Now it was between bowties and scarves. But which were humble? Bowties were often worn to rich events whether it was galas, weddings or other gatherings. Was that humble? Probably not. With process of elimination, Colby chose a scarf. Now was the moment of truth, waiting for the next riddle.

Oonagh had found her way to the Concession Stand. Perhaps they had some candy, preferably something so sour her face would off, or some gum. She certainly wouldn't say no to some gum right now. Or sugar really... Well regardless of this, she made her way to the stand and began to look around. When she saw what was displayed here she raised an eyebrow judgingly. Who had thought it smart to leave jewelry laying around like this? She knew the riddle spoke about humble things rather than fancy, but it was almost too tempting to just leave the jewelry behind when they were stupid enough to allow them to take some.

Though her desire to crush her competition below her boots outgrew her greed and so she swiftly grabbed a scarf, which she assumed was meant to be the 'humble' of the three options. Her gaze however did linger on a red bowtie with white spots, it did look kind of neat if she was being honest. However the black scarf she had gotten would certainly help more than the long sleeved shirt and yellow rain coat she was wearing. At least her neck would now be properly warmed, so she slung it around her neck.

The only good thing about just barely missing getting his stick in time was that he was right there when the fireworks went off above him and cascaded golden embers around him. Cool! That took away some of the sting of being too late in Round 1. The best part was that the next clue also appeared near his hand as he was in the midst of grabbing for a stick. He grabbed a scroll and was going to hand it to EmmaLee, but that all got waylaid when it seemed more important to apologize to her. He breathed a little easier when she took it all in stride, but then she excitedly rushed over to get a scroll for herself.

They both read the next clue, he to himself and she out loud. He liked listening to her subtle accent, but his eyes quickly shot up from his clue and towards her when she briefly called it a "Confession" stand before quickly correcting herself. Was that a Freudian slip on her part? He continued to look at her and smiled. Smiling was always the easiest thing to do when looking at her. It came naturally. She was already blushing, but for one thing, he had noticed she did that a lot, and for another, she could just have been embarrassed for using the wrong word.

Stop looking for clues to things that could be absolutely nothing, Schwartz. You have enough clues to get through with this Scavenger Hunt. Focus, man!

She voiced her conclusion aloud before he did and he nodded his emphatic confirmation of her thoughts. As the two started off, he was mindful not to go too quickly. Though she had definitely grown, he had, too, and his legs were still quite a bit longer. A few folks were ahead of them, but it looked like most were behind them. As they made their way, his mind wandered almost immediately to whether there would be an open concession stand or a closed one. This, if he had directed any brain power to it, would have had him conclude it was all due to his growing boy syndrome. In short, the boy could always eat. When not studying or competing in a broom sport, his mind was almost always churning over the idea that some munchies would not be entirely unwelcome. "What are the chances you think it will be open for business? Two or three chocolate frogs sounds really good right about now," and he grinned over at her. "Or popcorn. Yummy, movie theater popcorn. Nothing is better than that. The magic world doesn't know what it's missing on that score."

Just then they passed by a darkened, closed concession stand, and his hopes began to dwindle as his hunger pains only increased. EmmaLee seemed just a little disappointed as well, or maybe it was more like confused. "Well, while my stomach may have to wait to be satisfied, this particular stand being closed is not real evidence of anything just yet. Remember, this is a HUGE stadium. There are probably 20 or more concession stands in here. We just have to walk around a bit before we come to the right one. I still think we are on the right track though. The answer couldn't be anything else," and he grinned at her reassuringly.

Finally, after checking each concession stand on three levels, maybe four, EmmaLee saw a light ahead of them and trotted off, ecstatic they had finally come to the right concession stand. When he got up to it, he was thrilled she was so enthusiastic about everything. He took a quick note of everything around them, which was not as much as he had hoped (like munchies), but had exactly enough of what they needed. When he turned his focus to the three piles on the counter, he heard EmmaLee state her thought that they should take a scarf. He looked at the other two piles more closely. One consisted of bowties and the other was necklaces. Remembering the caution in their clue about disregarding fanciful things, he agreed again with her assessment and reached for a scarf. Since no one was around them at the moment, he dug through the pile hoping there might be a purple one, but nope. There was not. He did come across a blue and cranberry one though and latched onto that. Smiling at EmmaLee he wrapped it around his neck, which was actually kind of chilled, and stated somewhat proudly "Might as well represent Ilvermorny when given the chance!"

Stepping back from the piles, Stephen unthinkingly put his hand on the small of her back and guided her off to the side. "I guess we just need to stay put here for a bit and wait for the next clue if the first station was any indication as to how things should proceed," he nearly whispered, but because his brain would not let some things be, he continued to guide her further away from everyone else, "but I think it would not hurt to just casually look over our scarves - correction, your scarf - to make sure the next clue is not attached to it in some way. I would assume if a clue is attached to one scarf it would be attached to all. It'd be a shame to have been right, but lose out on getting to the end because we stood here like a couple of dolts waiting for a clue we had in our hands the whole time," and he chuckled.

Nodding his head down towards her scarf and then casually looking around them, he gently directed her, "Go ahead. I'd do it but it might look funny if I took mine off and we were both looking them over. It will likely amount to nothing, but better safe than sorry. If you find nothing and the next clue also appears here, then we lost nothing, but learned that we can just wait at all the next spots for the next, correct clue."

A Silver Arrow could be seen flying through the air and eventually the person on it alighted down onto the ground next to the concession stand set up on the bottom level of the stadium. There were various stands all over the level with various items sitting on the simple wooden countertop of each of them. A pile of bowties, scarves and necklaces could be seen. Glancing over the second riddle again, Tone read it through one more time. Grasping his broom in his hand, he made his way over to one of the stands that didn't have a crowd around it at the moment. Letting his eyes flicker over the choices, Tone eventually reached out to pick up one of the more drab colored scarves. The riddle had said they weren't fancy items which cancelled out the necklaces. Bowties were also fancy decorative items. Although, they were less so than necklaces. Scarves were ordinary things but could be used to spice up things. So they fit the riddle perfectly in his opinion. Tone placed the first and second riddle scrolls into his backpack, where the stick also was. But the blond waited with the dark blue scarf he'd chosen from the pile clutched between his fingers. Just in case it was the wrong item, so he could put it back.

As they picked up one of the sticks Mylo suddenly saw golden fireworks appear, alongside a stack of scrolls. This must have been the right answer! they happily thought to themselves grabbing one of the scrolls and reading the next riddle thoroughly. At the first sentence they felt happy at the though of more riddles to come, as this first one he'd already solved had been quite fun and Mylo was looking forward to getting to do more of them.

Plenty of snacks to get... The concession stands! they thought, it was the only place he knew that served snacks and would provide a plethora of things to eat. And so off they went, leaving the first destination behind and going on to the next.

Arriving at the concession stands he saw another 3 piles, one of bow-ties, one of scarves and one of necklaces. Reading the next part of the clue carefully they could definitely rule out the necklaces, they were good to make you look better but were quite fancy, as they thought about it he also ruled out the bow-ties, as these were often used with fancy clothing like suits and thus wouldn't necessarily be seen as humble. Which left the scarves as the only pile left, it made sense as they were good to give your outfit a little extra but weren't often seen as something fancy.

Taking one of the scarves Mylo waited for the next clue to arrive and to see if they had interpreted everything correctly.

Sere could see golden fireworks appearing from behind the Scoreboard, followed by a stack of scrolls on the table. Does this mean I guessed correctly? Seeing the number of campers below the Scoreboard, it's clear that she was right about the location, but no one took the quill apart from herself. The girl shrugged her shoulders, that was a pretty good start for a beginner, but I have to be better. Her ambitious mindset, as always.

Sere took a scroll and opened it. The next clue is waiting. She is curious about how many clues will exist in this Scavenger Hunt. Push aside her curiosity for a moment, Sere read the two paragraphs written in the scroll. 'You've still got plenty of riddles to go and plenty of snacks to get.'

Sere instantly moved her steps towards The Consessions. Where else can people get snacks beside of this place? Sere herself doesn't buy snacks at the consessions because the prices markups are crazy, beyond her logic. She prefers to eat healthy foods and snacking the fresh fruits provided at every meal time.

'Here you'll find more than expected, some accessories to jazz up your ensemble.' Sure enough, according to what was in the clue, Sere could see three stacks of accessories. 'Don't be fooled by fanciful things, the true prize is much more humble.' Okay, the bowtie and necklace are definitely too fancy. Sere decided to take a scarf, chose the plain white one because it looked so warm, and wrapped it around her neck.

Once she completed the first riddle, Elena got her hands on the second one, while golden fireworks were congratulating her and her fellow hunters. She read the verses with as much attention as she could and her eyes quickly stopped at the word "snacks". No need for the little red-head to continue her reading as she knew exactly where to go next .
Glutony may be a sin but it sure was useful for completing this riddle. One of the first place she remembered, on the very first day of summer camp, was the concessions, where she had the chance to taste a variety of exquisite meals - well at least some good ol' chocolate frogs and Pumpkin pasties - spending all her savings there.

Without thinking more about it or even finsihing reading the riddle, Elena started running towards the place of all of her desires. Unfortunately, once the excited girl arrived she was not greeted by delicious sweet treats but by three piles of accessories : bowties, scarves and necklaces.

Elena opened the scroll and read the last verses :

Here you'll find more than expected,
Some accessories to jazz up your ensemble.
Don't be fooled by fanciful things,
The true prize is far more humble.

She thought a few seconds about it but found this riddle way easier than the first one : it was obvious to her that the bowties and necklaces were way fancier than the scarves.
Not hesitating for even a second she reached for a long brown scarf and put it around her neck - at least she finally had something to keep her warm in this, oh so cold, summer camp.

Zophyr had, unsurprisingly to her because she had way too big an ego, gotten the first clue right. After a short catch-up with Tone, in which she admired his new hair color, he pointed out the fireworks which meant they'd been right. Zophyr grinned, nodding at her friend and then saying goodbye to them as they each set off to find the next clue. Tone had brought his broom with him. That was smart. Zophyr was jealous she hadn't thought of it herself - helped with getting to places quicker and easier, and you could get a bird's eye view.

But too late now, and she couldn't bother going to get her Nimbus 1500 now. She had better start moving before she froze to death. Time to figure out what the new riddle meant.

Which was... harder than the first one. Even though the first one had been hard too. But this one didn't even seem to say where the objects were found? Just not to give up and how there were lots of things to be done and whatever. The second stanza was about the objects, and it seemed pretty simple, if only Zophyr could know what to choose from in the first place.

Agh, gods, she did not want to go search everywhere again. This was stupid - she had already explored everything the first time, looking for adverts! It had taken her half an hour, she didn't want to do it all over again just looking for something that matched the riddle!
It was then that she realized perhaps she wouldn't have to. Accessories to jazz up your ensemble... she had seen quite a few of those during her explorations. Three places, if she remembered correctly: the box at the top of the stands, the stands themselves, and those places that sold food and snacks. The question was, which one of those was it?

The box at the top had had mittens, gloves and socks, if Zophyr remembered correctly. None of those sounded more humble or more fancy than the others, so that couldn't be it. In the food stand thingie (man, Zophyr really needed to start remembering the names of things) had been necklaces, bowties and scarves. Scarves were clearly more humble than the others, so maybe it was that? But then there were the stands, which had top hats, berets and earmuffs, and the earmuffs were also clearly more humble than the other two. What to choose?

Why did this have to be so hard?? Zophyr wasn't one to often give up, but she was all alone and sick of the cold and really annoyed she couldn't find an answer. Perhaps this game just wasn't for her. Frustrated, she took the paper with the riddle on it and ripped it in half... right through the word snacks.

Zophyr froze.

Then she was running towards the snack vending thingie that she didn't know the name of as fast as she possibly could. Scarves it was, apparently.

SCAVENGER HUNT | Round 2
- July 30, 2024 -

GOLDEN fireworks played across the back of Septimus's eyelids as he jogged towards the outskirts of the stadium, carrying one of the scrolls that had appeared below the scoreboard under his arm. He'd still been fighting fatigue while following the first riddle, but after seeing that pyrotechnics show — which he thought must be an early hint of victory — he was wide awake. It was exciting to know that he was on the right trail. Caught up in the momentum of the first round, he'd skimmed the second riddle as fast as he could and stopped at the word snacks. Memories of sitting in the stands and cheering on England through mouthfuls of candy and bites of pasty had rushed to the front of his mind. Septimus pictured the bright-colored concessions booths he'd always passed on his way towards the pitch and aimed himself in their direction.

A few minutes later, one of the booths came into view. Septimus drew close enough to see three piles arranged on the countertop. It was the same thing he'd encountered at the scoreboard; instead of candles, quills, and sticks, however, these piles were made up of bowties, necklaces, and scarves. After studying his options for a moment, Septimus opened the second scroll again and read the last part of the riddle. Don't be fooled by fanciful things, it said. The true prize is far more humble.

Stepping up to the concessions booth, the boy reached out and took a necklace from the top of the necklace pile. Scarves and bowties both seemed like very obvious things to wear — bowties were definitely fanciful, which was something he'd been told to avoid, and scarves took up your whole neck. Necklaces, on the other hand, were smaller and easy to hide under a shirt. He figured that this must mean they were more humble than the other options. But despite this logic, something still didn't feel right.

Last year, when Septimus's sister had come home from school for the summer, she'd spent a lot of time talking about a boy she'd started dating at Ilvermorny and then showed off a necklace he'd given her at the end of the year. It was small and silver (nothing sparkly or expensive-looking at all), but Olivia had gone on and on about how much she loved it and how much it meant to her and how beautiful it was. And after that, she'd brought it up to her room and never even worn it, claiming she was waiting for a special occasion. Septimus still didn't really get why that one little thing had mattered so much, but thinking about it now, he realized that he'd made the wrong choice. He knew lots of people with scarves, and none of them gushed about wearing one like Olivia had done with her necklace. It must be a scarf that was the humble "prize" he was looking for.

Septimus picked one from the pile and stood back, hoping that he would be rewarded with another shower of fireworks. Now that he'd succeeded on one round, he didn't want to get anything wrong. Even if no one was watching, how embarrassing would it be to mess up on a game like this before he'd even set foot in Hogwarts?
