"Oh. Silly me," she whispered quietly after Rodney corrected her mistake. First floor is for bites, second floor is magic sick. Got it.

She looked out at the lake again, gently thumbing the pages of her book. Her gaze flicked over to Rodney, however, as soon as the boy began to talk again.

What did she want to be. A question she was asked a lot and one she never gave much thought. She had figured it out long ago. "The current plan is to become an Unspeakable in the Space Chamber. Or the Time Room. If I end up being good at Quidditch once I get on the team, though, I may try to go professional with that."

There were multiple reasons behind her desire to be an Unspeakable. The first was her inspiration, Aunt Aces. She had been first introduced to the occupation by Aces, but had no desire to work with death like her aunt. So Astra did her own research.

That was actually the second thing that drew her in: research. Magical science. Discovery. The idea that she herself could make the next big breakthrough in magic was unbelievable and so, so tantalizing.

And the third, of course, was magic. Fairly self-explanatory.

Astra studied the dark-haired boy for a few moments. "You said you were interested in duelling?" She already knew a duellist, Mahlioz, and had even participated in a duel herself and won (though she only used three spells the entire time), but she didn't understand the appeal to do it as a sport. Sure, learning lots of spells was great, but Astra would prefer to do it simply for fun. "How did you get interested in that?"
