July 1, 2023 - first day of summer camp

Vomitous was the only word for the technicolor nightmare that was supposed to be his cabin for the next month. He'd so thoroughly enjoyed last summer's Pirate themed camp, even if it had been held in a world famous Quidditch stadium, that it just didn't occur to him that he'd detest his decision to come back this summer right out of the gate. They'd passed so many beautiful and luxurious cabins along the way. Surely this was some mistake. Surely this eyesore of an abomination had been designed with 5 year old little girls in mind. Who had he ticked off to deserve this?

He reluctantly forced his feet to move towards the entrance. It wouldn't be too great a shock to discover the place had been furnished with dollhouse furniture. It hadn't been. But the interior was even worse than he feared. That was a major feat all on its own.

The assault to his ocular orbs had somewhat dulled his other senses, but only temporarily. Still slightly queasy from his journey, he would find himself even moreso after stepping over the threshold. Stephen heard raised, angry-sounding, female voices and a loud, crashing thud deeper in the interior. He was also surprised to hear the calm, measured tone of Mahoutokoro's black knight. "The exit is this way," he'd said.

Bullhockey, Stephen thought. The only exit from this primary school hellscape would be July 30, and it couldn't come fast enough.

Stephen smiled and nodded at the black knight and started to go in search of a room when he decided to briefly stop to introduce himself instead. Anything to prolong the beginning of his trip into the belly of the beast was fine by him. He was tall and athletically built for his age. The doorways and tunnels looked like they were going to be a tight fit. Uncomfortably so.

"Hey, hello," and he shifted his enchanted satchel to his left hand as he offered the black knight his right one. He struggled last year with whether such a gesture was appropriate or not, but he was American and it is what Americans did. No one was being forced to accept the offer and it would be no skin off of Stephen's nose if the boy declined, for whatever reason. "I'm Stephen Schwartz, an Ilvermorny third year. We met unofficially on the Hexwizard chess board last fall, much to my chagrin," and Stephen decided a different type of "grin" was in order as his own spread affably across his face at the black knight.

Just then an older upperclasswoman emerged, hinting the the interior was lacking in any kind of adult, architectural sense. More female voices rang out as did a thud that was apparently another cabin mate falling through the ceiling it sounded like. And he caught the merest glimpse of a retreating, male figure there before him. He recognized the fellow as a Durmstrangian Quidditch team player. Maybe Stephen could leave here by summer's end and not detest any and all things Durmstrang. Even they were people after all.

Sigh. Tempers were already short. He listened to the various exchanges and hoped that someone, anyone, he knew would be joining them soon. He also hoped that didn't make him a crappy friend.

Real friends wouldn't let their real friends anywhere near this hot mess.

Abort. Abort. Surely this was some cruel twisted nightmare Bea was experiencing. Maybe the camp organisers were playing tricks and this wasn't actually her cabin. Upon entry into the cabin, her things slightly behind her and Eos tucked into her carry bag, Bea stopped letting her eyes try and adjust to the assault on her retinas that was the unicorn cabin. There was no way the camp organisers had come up with this. Or maybe they had? She knew of @Clark Baird's taste and she lamented that it was a pity she couldn't show him the cabin because he would have loved it. Maybe they could swap?

She'd genuinely been excited for this cabin. The name had sounded promising, with imagery of fairy lights and woodlands coming to mind. This was not it. At all. As she looked around at the crazy rainbows of colour, splashed liberally across the walls, she shuddered. Was this better than home? At least she was able to do magic here. She wouldn't at her muggle grandparents house. Looking around the space, no central meeting place but small couches and hidy holes tucked away, she contemplated erecting a tent and sleeping outside. Or burning the cabin to the ground...

Brushing Eos' furry head as she popped out to see their new home for the next month, Bea whispered to her furry friend, "It's just you and me bubs. Here's hoping it all goes well..." Her hope was fleeing quite quickly as she meandered the criss-cross halls and small nooks. She knew no one in her cabin, and it wasn't like last time where she had Hilda and then Monica for company. None of her friends were coming to camp this year. It was only by order of her mother that she was here.

She could hear voices, numerous coming from up ahead, bouncing along the sharp spaces and various surfaces. It was the fact again, that she knew no one that had her debating whether to answer anyone. Deciding that it was probably better to at least get to know her new month-long cabin mates, she called out, "Hello? Anyone able te navigate this nightmare?"

As each door came into view, she popped her head around to see if it was free. There was no way she was climbing into a tunnel which the thought of gave her a sick churning in her stomach. Too dark and too tight. Maybe up the ladder? Deciding it would be better than getting lost in this hell hole of a cabin, the young prefect floated her things up to the top landing and climbed up afterwards. Hoping to Morgana and Merlin that this room was free, she thanked her lucky stars that it was and she could settle in. She unpacked first, leaving Eos in her room to nibble on some treats, and then climbed down the ladder to find some elusive cabin mates. Maybe she'd find someone who wanted to burn the building with her...

Estelle was so excited to go to Summer Camp! She had never been to one before but both her parents were away reporting and so here she was.

Estelle hefted her heavy bags and dragged them to the cabin, stopping to look at each of the cabins. Her bags were heavier than she thought and it took a while for her to drag them to her cabin, but she got there eventually. She loved the vibe of each but none of them could compare to her cabin.

She stepped inside and was bombarded with a rainbow of colours. Everywhere she looked, rainbows lined the walls. This was a five-year old's dream.

Estelle pulled her bags in to the cabin and just stood there, taking it all in. It was really overwhelming but the more she looked, the more she loved it. The chaotic rainbows on the walls made the cabin seem like a play house and she found that really welcoming. She did wish the cabin was more like those she had seen on films such as 'The Parent Trap' but this cabin was still nice.

Estelle looked at the other cabin members, trying to spot familiar faces. She didn't really recognise anyone and she was excited to get to know new people.

She smiled at someone near her and said

"Hi! I'm Estelle!"

Dressed from head to toe in his Durmstrang uniform, the eighth year man arrived at Hogwarts with his fellow students. It had been a while since he had visited Hogwarts - partially due to the fact that the school had not chosen him to be the Durmstrang Champion for Hex. In fact, who was he kidding? It was entirely because of that. He was furious. It made no sense. And as it turned out, the champion could not even hack it. They would end up losing and shame the school. If he was the champion, they would win - and only if he was. At least, that was his belief. He was too angry to even join the team.

Either way, it was time to scout out the opponents and see what everyone could even do. Though, more than that, he figured it was time to go visit some cute girls. Durmstrang might have been a great school with purebloods, dark arts and everything else that was wonderful. However, it was not good for cute girls. He had already flirted with most of the ones there and he was kind of bored of most of them. International trips like this helped him to meet those beautiful veelas that existed in Hogwarts or find a cutie from Beauxbatons. Simply put, there was more choice.

With a large duffle bag slung over his shoulder, Arjan made his way to the Unicorn cabin that he had been assigned. It was easy enough to find. He was not sure what he expected from the cabin but... it was not this. His retinas regret opening the door immediately. It was so... bright, for the lack of a better word. There was so much rainbow and neon colours sprayed all over the walls and, well, everyone to be frank.

"What the fuck is this?" He cursed under his breathe as he stepped back outside to double check the flag. It was most certainly an Unicorn symbol on it, much to his regret. A part of him hoped he had entered the wrong cabin. With a sigh, he entered into the cabin and walked down a tunnel, hoping to find a bed somewhere. Preferably in a darker, less colourful location somewhere. He walked past a nook or two, wondering if they were meant to be sleeping in those. At least they might be safe from the technicolour nightmare in there somewhere.

This very much seemed like the sort of cabin his sister would like. It was full of small spaces - much like her - and weirdly colourful and she would probably love it. He, on the other hand, did not appreciate this. Hopefully he would find a nice spot somewhere. Otherwise he was going to have to redecorate this entire cabin. Perhaps he could break down a few walls or colour change something to make it a bit... nicer. Sigh.

Wait - "Haven't I been past this before?" He questioned, spotting another nook that seemed oddly similar to the one he had passed before. Was he going around in circles or was it just very similar? How the hell was he was supposed to figure this nightmare of a maze out?
He was tempted to put down his bag somewhere and then if he passed it again, he would know that he was going around in circles. Then again, what if he never found it again? He would end up losing his stuff and that was something he was not willing to tolerate! He needed his things, they were very important.

Arjan could hear some voices around, though he had no idea if he was meant to go through one of the crawlspaces to get to them. Not that he wanted to. He was not going to ruin his perfectly poofed up hair against some stupid ceiling. He was far too old and tall to be crawling around like a child. "Anyone know where the bedrooms are?" He called out through one of the tunnels, hoping someone could just point him in the direction of a bed. Were they going to end up being up one of these ladders or something?

With an irritable sigh, he leaned against a stripped rainbow coloured wall deciding to wait for someone - and found himself falling backwards. "WHAT THE-" He started to curse as he quickly turned and caught himself with his palm as though he was doing a press up. Pushing up from the floor, he blinked. This room wasn't there before... Wait- he went through a door? When had that existed? Ugh, he was going to hate this nightmare of a cabin. How big even was it?

Roleplaying as Ginyami Midorimori from Mahoutokoro
"English | Japanese"
"What is your name, O Guiding One? I have not heard your voice before."

Ginyami grinned at the nickname given to him before he introduced himself and received one in turn. "A pleasure to meet you too, Miss Xailah Alptraum and Schrödinger. It's a shame I can't yet see you, however. Or this Erin Ryan. I hope you're able to find the exit alright." Maybe he was wrong in estimating how many people were already in the cabin. It was hard to say.

Not long after, a beautiful blonde girl (Erin) emerged from the crawlspace before him and thanked Merlin for her miraculous escape. Now that people were showing up again at last, Ginyami felt a little better about perhaps venturing into the intricate labyrinthine space himself. He nodded at the young woman's proclamation that nothing about that place made any sense.

He was introduced to the next young woman to show up as 'Prefect cat lady' and nodded at that as well, if a little uncertainly since he wasn't exactly sure what was meant by the description. Was she a cat lady because she owned a cat? It wasn't long before he pieced together that 'Prefect cat lady' was Xailah Alptraum which meant that the blonde must have been Erin Ryan if they were together. The Japanese boy mentally assigned names to faces so as not to forget them in the future.

Another girl (Madi) smiled and gave a little wave, to which Ginyami returned both. He heard her mutter "Seriously?" to herself after she disappeared up some stairs and grew more apprehensive about following after her, especially after hearing a later, "Now, how do I get out?"

"Ah...do you need some help?" Ginyami called to her, wondering if he could still serve as some sort of guide to the entrance while he still stayed beside the cabin door. There were others there now, though, so maybe he was no longer needed.

An angry voice (Ruby) yelled for people to “Fuck off! Figure it out yourself!” causing Ginyami's eyes to widen at the unadulterated profanity included in the rude command. He wondered just whom he had been assigned to stay with in this cabin other than Romeo after all. At least Romeo had some semblance of manners when he wanted to. Were they heathens? Well, none of them were likely Japanese, but at least there seemed to be more polite individuals like Xaliah. He could understand the swear-word-user's frustration, but that didn't mean she needed to take out said frustration on everyone else. They all seemed to be in this mess together, after all, for better or for worse.

A little while later, a girl (Ruby) made it back to the entrance at last and Ginyami found out by her voice when she used it again that it was the crude profanity-user. What was more was that she seemed to know Xailah. Well, that was a surprise. He wondered if they were friends. Erin introduced the girl as 'Other prefect', making him wonder if they knew each other, too. Ginyami appraised the 'other prefect' girl (Ruby) up and down, wondering just what sort of individual would use the language she did on complete and total strangers. She didn't seem like a muggle-born student...could she have possibly been a pureblood? Surely a pureblood would have been taught better manners than that. Still, who knew?

If he had any way of being sure she was anything less, he would have given her a piece of his mind right then and there because how dare she speak to him, a pureblooded Japanese foreign student, that way. As he couldn't be sure what she was, though, and she had yet to address him personally, he refrained from letting his true colors show. "Greetings," he said instead, offering another polite smile despite the girl's obviously foul mood.

"How are we going to make sure that we find our way out?" Erin asked before turning to Xailah and asking if she was her chaperone. Ginyami wasn't sure what she meant by that, but he suggested for her first question, "What if we used strings or ribbons and tied them to a place near the entrance so we can just follow them to get back out?"

And then Romeo showed up. Ginyami had to stifle a laugh and look away, slapping a hand over his mouth at the sight of the Durmstrang student's face upon seeing the inside of the cabin. He even thought he heard him utter something in distress, though what it was he had no idea. When the blue-eyed brunet seemed to notice him, he tried to nod stoically, but as soon as he dropped his hand from his mouth, it was obvious he was attempting to hide a grin. "Fancy meeting you here," he greeted in obvious amusement. "I take it you love the decor and layout as much as the rest of us." At least Ginyami wasn't the only guy anymore and there was something to be said for seeing a familiar face. He might have actually been glad to see Romeo, he realized.

Watching the large young man assess the crawlspaces and tunnels only made Ginyami want to laugh more while at the same time pitying the other teen. At least Ginyami was a little more used to small spaces having lived in Japan where space was usually optimized considering the large populations dwelling on mere islands. Romeo, on the other hand, was likely to have a tough time here. The Mahoutokoro student had mixed feelings about that fact.

"There are still some stairs and ladders that lead to some bedrooms if you want to try to avoid the crawlspaces and tunnels," he suggested, gesturing to one of the ladders nearby. "It might be easier for you to get around."

A fellow Ginyami recognized from the first Hexwizard task against Ilvermorny appeared at the doorway and smiled at him, nodding, to which the Japanese boy dipped his head respectfully and smiled back. He had also seem horrified upon first witnessing the interior of the cabin and almost seemed to turn his attention to Ginyami as if to avoid turning it on the eye-searing reality before him for a while. The American, like Romeo, appeared to be tall and rather muscular to the point that the tunnels and crawlspaces seemed like they would be a pain to fit through. Ginyami sighed sympathetically before realizing the young man was introducing himself to him.

"Hello, Stephen," he answered back, using his first name as Ginyami had heard was the custom in America and the United Kingdom. "I remember you. You were the white bishop, yes? You and your team put up quite the fight. I'm Ginyami Midorimori, but Yami will do if that's too long. I'm a Mahoutokoro fifth year - or will be once school starts up again. It is an honor to be able to meet you personally." Taking Stephen's offered right hand, he shook it firmly. "I hope we can survive this trial of a cabin together."

"Hello? Anyone able to navigate this nightmare?"

Maybe he should have started to move away from the entrance as it began to get crowded with more and more people making their way into the Unicorn cabin. Another girl (Beatrice) entered with her luggage and went to seek out a room before returning to meet her cabin mates. Ginyami gave her a brief smile and held up his hand to greet her before yet a new girl (Estelle) showed up. There really were a lot of girls there. He wondered if it had anything to do with the fact it was the Unicorn cabin, but at least there were some boys and they seemed like pleasant enough company. Not that girls bothered Ginyami, but he had started to feel a little self-conscious at first when he had been the only male there.

This new girl seemed to be the only student assigned to the cabin who didn't appear to hate it immediately. Ginyami couldn't help but smirk a bit at her child-like reaction as she stood taking everything in before greeting everyone enthusiastically and introducing herself as Estelle.

"Hello, Estelle. I'm Ginyami Midorimori - or Yami, if you prefer."

Ginyami's eyes caught on a Durmstrang uniform as yet another of the school's students arrived. He wondered how well Romeo knew him. The young man walked right past them and went to find a bedroom to claim. A few minutes later, he Ginyami was fairly certain it was him who was calling somewhere, "Anyone know where the bedrooms are?"

"Hidden everywhere, it seems," the black-haired teen called back, right before hearing a "WHAT THE-" to which he couldn't help but snicker behind a hand.

"Did you find one?" he asked once he was certain he was able to keep his amusement from seeping into his voice.

Ryan stood in the entrance area, introducing Ruby as “other prefect”. “It’s Ruby Cazares, and I’m not a prefect anymore. I haven’t been one since third year.” As if Ryan was the type to keep up with that anyway. She probably barely even knew who her Head of House was. The correction wasn’t important, but she wanted to ensure that none of them would consider asking her for help in case her unfriendly attitude wasn’t enough to ward them off. Midorimori had offered Ruby a greeting though, so she managed a nod in return. Ryan asked a question that would soon be reiterated by many a student: "How are we going to make sure that we find our way out?" Ruby rolled her eyes. Perhaps she just had a better sense of direction than others, but she believed that if they were so careless as to not pay attention to the way they came, then maybe they didn’t deserve to be told how to get out. “Just pay better attention next time,” she replied icily.

She watched people make their way by. First, there was a tall, shocked looking boy who Midorimori seemed to already know, followed another boy who introduced himself to Midorimori as Stephen Schwartz. He mentioned competing for the Hexwizard tournament, which was mildly interesting but ultimately probably meant that the two boys had a higher chance of being competitive or full of themselves, neither of which were wonderful to be around. A girl passed by and soon Ruby heard a voice—perhaps said girl’s, but she couldn’t be certain since she hadn’t spoken—ask if anyone could navigate “this nightmare”. Why can’t these damn people figure it out for themselves? Is no one in this cabin independent or competent? At least she agreed with the girl on the nightmare part. Another girl arrived and cheerfully introduced herself as Estelle—someone who seemed to like this horrifying cabin, now that was someone to avoid. Finally, there was another athletic-looking boy, and a voice calling "Anyone know where the bedrooms are?"

She sighed. It had better not be like this the whole damn time. Midorimori had no problem answering the repeated calls from lost students much more nicely than Ruby would have, so she forced herself to remain quiet on that regard. At least for now. If people kept yelling and yelling about it, she would end up yelling back at them soon enough. “How could anyone like this godforsaken place?” she lamented. “What kind of a person would ever think this was a good idea?” She would be spending as much time out of this cabin as physically possible. She just wanted to see who she would have to be dealing with while they shared the same space, but as soon as she got a sense of their personalities, she would get out of here for the day.

Howard took his time getting to this Unicorn cabin he had been assigned to. His mind drifting to places far away from summer camp. The very fact that this would be his last one weighed a bit heavy on the young man, so he filled his thoughts with the promise of the future instead of dwelling on just how much he would miss it all. What would come after? Where would he live, what would he do? Questions that both scared and excited Howard, but in just a years time they would cease to become inquiries and would very much be reality.

Speaking of realities. “Holy hell!” Howard exclaimed as his eyes took in the cabin. Memories of his Muggle childhood came rushing back as the cabin resembled more of a playhouse than a residence for students. All it was missing was a pit full of plastic balls for them to all jump into.

“Quite the spot they’ve got for us huh?” Howard said to whoever listened as crimson eyes searched the other faces present. Some he knew, others were strangers, but judging by the atmosphere in the room it was going to be an interesting time. Especially if a certain Durmstrang student wanted to get feisty again. Howard shot him a taunting smile to test the waters.

"Hello, Estelle. I'm Ginyami Midorimori - or Yami, if you prefer."

Estelle smiled at the boy. She was glad he had responded. Sometimes people would blank her when she introduced their names. She hated that.

Estelle grabbed her bags and, beckoning to Yami, began to explore. She loved all the tunnels and hidey holes that were dotted around the place and started to mentally map them. They would probably be confusing if she didn't. She soon found the bedrooms and claimed a bed, unloading her stuff into the wardrobe.

It didn't surprise Estelle that everyone found the cabin so difficult to navigate. However, once you have been through a tunnel once you soon learn of its location and she had already been through quite a few. Each had its own distinguishing features, whether they be sprinkle-like patterns or blue walls.

Estelle supposed that the reason people were finding it so difficult to navigate was that they were unsure of the differences between the tunnels, which could be difficult to spot if you didn't notice them the first time. She decided that she would help the others navigate the many tunnels to find their bedrooms.

"Does anyone need help finding the bedrooms or any other areas? I think I have a pretty good idea of the layout now so I can help."

Estelle glanced around, looking to see if people needed help.

Anastasia was exploring the cabin for only a few minutes now, when someone started shouting. The girl rolled her eyes because the screaming was an exagerated reaction. Even if the thing you're reacting to is a very colourfull hell place. More students were entering the cabin, creating more and more chaos. Don't be mistaken, the Ravenclaw loved chaos, but a silent one. Not a noisy and rainbow chaos.
Noise was something Anastasia couldn't handle. She grew up in a very calm and silent manor and now, she just couldn't stay in a close place filled with noise. So she started making her way back to the room she choose for herself. She wanted to grab a bag, a book and her aquarell set.
While making her way back, the girl realised that you could easily get lost in the cabin. It was all made by small places, traps, slides and flashy colours. A paradise for 6 years olds. And by the shouting and screams she could hear, nobody here liked that. She chuckled, thinking about how all the residents could litteraly burn that place to the ground. That was the kind of chaos she liked.
Anastasia arrived to her room and she only saw one student, who shooked her hand. This was a bit odd, she thought she would see more people. But that was nice to not see anyone. In her room, the girl grabbed her little bag and put a book and her aquarell set in it. Her spider was busy building her web so she just grabbed her large straw hat and got out of the room. She was finally going out of this hell place.
Hello? Anyone able te navigate this nightmare?
Anastasia knew that voice. It was a prefect, in the same house and year that her. The girl sighed and went to see what was going on. Apparently, Langstreth was lost. Comprehensible. She needed someone to help her with the attrocious design of the cabin. Understainable. Anastasia was definitly not the best person for that, but she was the only one near Langstreth. So she went to help the prefect.
Hey Langstreth. You need help for something?

He heard someone say something about the rooms behind hidden everywhere as he found himself falling. Great. How unhelpful! Some people! Why couldn't they just do better? Be more like Arjan, you know? Then again, it was almost impossible to be more like Arjan. He was too great, after all. The voice then had the audacity to ask if he found a room! Was he trying to steal it? He couldn't! This was Arjan's! He had found it!

Wait - where even was this?

Arjan groaned as he pushed off the floor in one swift motion, standing up again and peering into the room. Okay, it was an actual bedroom it seemed. Shotgun! It was his, he saw it first! No takebacks! There was a large bed in the room but that seemed to be about it. On the plus side, this meant that they had individual bedrooms - which was a win. He had no intention of sharing with some loser. Tossing his bag into the room, just leaving it on the bed to deal with later and took off his coat. Whilst he was happy to don his uniform as much as possible, he had made his arrival and he had done so in style. Now it was just hot. He switched out of his uniform, changing into a more casual outfit which included just a red t-shirt and a pair of beige cargo shorts.

With that, he stepped outside again to try and figure out if there was a spot for people to just 'chill' in. He assumed there would be but trying to find it was another matter entirely. He flexed his muscles as he walked out of the room, checking out his own biceps as he adjusted the sleeves of his t-shirt, making sure he looked good.

As he made his way down the corridor, he came across some people - one in particular caught his eye. Did he even know the guy's name? No, not really. But he recognised the twerp as someone that he had seen around before. More than that, wasn't he the Hogwarts champion? Ugh. How did he get to be champion and Durmstrang did not pick Arjan? That was ridiculous!

His eyes narrowed on the paleass punk who was smiling at him. Ugh, did the guy have a crush on him or something? He wouldn't be the first but geesh, Arjan just wanted to be left in peace. "Huh. You're here too? Shame you don't have an aversion to this cabin," He acknowledged. He was smarter than he looked, at least recognising Howard as a dhampir and recognising that dhampirs had an aversion to light - and this cabin was very bright. Was he really going to have to share a cabin with this guy? Where were the cute girls?!
