JUNE SELWYN
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
Date: April 28 | Dialogue: X | @Maverick Castle, @Avery Leveret & @Duvessa Ember
────────────────────────────────
Fly fast and accurately she did. June was a racer, no doubt about it.

June savored the moment of silence after she scored the first goal, eyes fixed on her in awe and disbelief. Behold, this is what dodging rocks and spells while flying will do to a person.

Teammate Maverick took the quaffle with beautiful agility, but June couldn't help but wince as the quaffle was blocked from the rings. "Nice shot, Castle!" What else was there than to build up teammates, after all?

After another score from June, she watched (after being bodychecked by some first-year she didn't recognize, much to her annoyance) as Avery assisted in both of the opposing team's goals. She'd fly beside him as the game reset once more. "Not bad for a duelist," she'd tease good-naturedly. Oh yes, the competitive nature of both of the snakes had clearly awoken.

The teams were essentially back at square one, tied with nothing gained other than the beginning of feelings of expending energy. June gave her teammates an encouraging smile, she had every confidence in their team. She settled in next to Angelique, leaning over to the foreign student. "Sorry for getting in your way back there," she spoke quietly.

But there was no time to dwell on past mistakes. Dig down, Selwyn. Here we go.

The points were tied immediately, Milo managed to save one of the tries that went by him, he hissed through his teeth in mild disappointment, but it was better than if he had missed all 3, tied is better than losing that was for sure. He watched as both of the times the ball managed to get to Avery, they went straight in the hoop. Doing a small cheer for his little team. Even though Milo was used to being on a team like this, it was usually a bit larger and he was doing a very different job, as he normally was a beater.

His normal job would require hitting the bludgers towards and away from certain people, having to keep an eye on both of the bludgers along with where everybody was, for a keeper, he was just mainly watching the Quaffle, there wasn't any other balls in play for him to pay attention to, as well as him not having to watch out for his own bludgers or keep an eye that a seeker wasn't going to get in the way as they chased the tiny golden snitch. It was a lot more chill, even if he hadn't really spoken to anybody here before, hopefully they could become friends.

-----A cheer left him triumphantly with each scoring shot.

A fist pump was sure to follow as he celebrated with his team-mates, he felt on fire; focused like one of the many arrows he had shot at targets. Each move was determined and conscious of the wider field. Although it seemed he sat idly, waiting for the chance; he was engaging with the strategy that seemed to be working.

“Get in guys!” He tried to share in the testosterone fuelled celebrations, regardless of who or what they were. In this moment he’d let slip the scaled mask; this was a face of fun. It didn’t change when June came up beside him during the reset, teasing him. A grin sprouted on his features, savouring in the competition between acquaintances.

“More where that came from. You see it’s simple really, you’ve just got to watch your left flank for the reverse jangler manoeuvre and then—” His voice faded as he flew away from her, intentionally. He was clearly pulling her leg as if playfully mocking her broomsports, which he didn’t see the appeal of; until now perhaps.

On the reset he grouped back with his team, encouragingly nodding at them all.

“It’s all to play for lads.” He gave.

Roleplaying as Ginyami Midorimori from Mahoutokoro
"English | Japanese"
Ginyami was pleased when the first score was made by a girl on their team - a second year named June. He was surprised at her dexterity and speed as she managed to get past Milo almost immediately. Aryaan called the score aloud and Ginyami grinned, nodding towards June in acknowledgement. "Wonderful job!"

Pretty soon the Quaffle was back in play and Maverick, another person on their Blue Team, tried to score another goal. Milo was able to block it that time, though, and easily made the save. It wasn't until June got possession of the Quaffle yet again that they were able to score more points, though this time just barely.

The Mahoutokoro fourth year whistled, impressed. Things seemed to be going pretty well for them at first, but as Ginyami knew all too well, a game like this so similar to Quidditch could change in the blink of an eye. Before he knew it, an opposing Chaser on the Red Team - a boy named Avery - received the Quaffle from his teammate Harlan and then tried to take a shot with it. Ginyami dashed forward to try to stop it, attempting a variant of the Block called Starfish and Stick, but he was rusty and it showed. Avery was able to make the goal and the Red Team scored their first points.

Their next goal wasn't far behind, either. Yevgeny, like Harlan, made the move of passing the Quaffle to Avery. Ginyami, who hadn't expected this, had moved to intercept Harlan and inadvertently left the hoops open for Avery to score yet again. There went the Blue Team's advantage. Still, with the score even then, it meant that either side had a very good chance of winning which made things all the more exciting. At least the game wouldn't be one-sided with talents from both teams being revealed in different ways and with different styles.

- In the role of Keeper a critical success on an attempt to block a goal not only means that the Keeper caught the quaffle but they have also successfully passed the quaffle (without a chance of interception) to an allied target of their choice. A critical failure in this case cannot happen for a Keeper, they get to re-roll the attempt to block.
- In the role of Keeper when you attempt to block your goal, if your opponent somehow has advantage on attempting to score a goal, that is negated (they only have their normal single roll against you).

YEVGENY ISAEVICH OGAREV
Durmstrang | 2nd Year | Broom Racer
━━━━━━━ ♔ ━━━━━━━
Yevgeny's entire body was infused with adrenaline from flying. Initially, his thoughts about Hogwarts were less than positive, as a typical Durmstrang student he believed that some distinguished branches of magic were not adequately valued at Hogwarts. However, the game he had just played had begun to change his opinion. The castle's charm, along with the pastoral beauty of the surrounding area, had begun to warm Yevgeny to this British school. Additionally, he found that the Hogwarts students were not as terrible as he had thought and he was starting to appreciate both his teammates and rivals, as they had all raced with honour thus far.

While flying over Hogwarts on his Comet 260, Yevgeny couldn't help but feel envious of the newer and more effective brooms that most of the other players had. However, he was wise enough to realize that the actual value of flying lay in the sport and art of it, rather than in the equipment. And in fact, when Yevgeny managed to successfully steal the Quaffle from the opposing team, all of his slightly negative thoughts about the game dissipated, and he felt a pure sense of joy. As he passed the ball to Avery, allowing him to score, only one thought came to mind: Splendid!

Well, all right, nice. Okay, not really, but at least it was fine - the score was a tie.

Selwyn, their team leader, told Maverick he had done a good shot, but somehow the part-Veela could not help but think that she only said so to make him feel better for not being able to pass the opponent's keeper. Or perhaps she was just trying to be friendly, or maybe not wanting to start an argument with him and potentially turn the atmosphere in their team for worse, thus destroying their chance to win as well. Either way, he did not think she really considered it a good job.

For the Gryffindor himself, nothing was good unless he managed to steal the spotlight. This ambition, coupled with his initial failed scoring attempt, fuelled his determination to success in the next movement.

He gave Selwyn a nod and a polite 'thank you', before diving back. Turning his attention back to his beloved Firebolt, the first year whispered to the broom, "Let's show these inferior couples who are the kings of the pitch. Show them you and I are the best when it comes to any match involving brooms!"

Imagining that he was in an international match, Maverick dreamt about his success while keeping his feet on the ground... not literally.

  1. In the role of Chaser, if you have a contested quaffle grab and a contested strength roll between yourself and another user is in progress, unless they have the same broom, you would be the victor of the contested quaffle grab. In addition, rounds where you are successfully carrying the quaffle in an attempt to score, you only take half-damage from bludgers and blatching attempts.
  2. In the role of Chaser when you attempt to catch a passed Quaffle (such as when the Keeper has possession of the Quaffle and passes it to a teammate) you have advantage (meaning that it is rolled twice and you keep the better option) on attempts to catch if the opponent team attempts to intercept.

The world is in despair not because there are many bad people, but because there are many good people who do nothing.

Role-Playing as Angelique Selemine

The blond-ish haired girl looked hopeful as the teams were even on the score. That Avery Leveret seemed to be taking charge and really.... playing to win. As in, Slytherin win. The young Koldovstoretz player had certainly tried her best....

She seemed to have been bodyblocked, unfortunate to not have time to grab the quaffle. Wind whistling in her ears she made a desperate, aimless grab - but it was not enough to bring her team to glory. No, she was left out again, the Quaffle stolen from the other team's hands.

The game was fast and furious, and her eyes targeted to see in any ways she could help. Once they scored, she cheered inside her head. But deep inside she knew it was nothing to do with her, so searched the pitch bleakly to see if there was a moment to grab the Quaffle and pass it on to one if her team mates. The opposing team certainly had a talent, moving in air quickly and steadily. It was lucky that Angelique had June Selwyn, their team captain and Jack Burnett who seemed to be very knowledgable about the game.

She gripped the handle tightly, and prepared for the next action.

THE FREEDOM OF FLYING had always been something that Harlan cherished and as the camaraderie between his team continued to grow with every successful pass, perhaps he was meant more for Quidditch than he was for the broom racing club that he signed up for. He'd always have more time to decide on things later but this time, Harlan would circle his comrades and lift a hand up on the air. " A few more of those and we've won, fellas. Golden arm there, Avery. Keep that up! " A smile plastering itself on Harlan's lips as he manuvered back to his position and was ready to support the team the best that he could -- which is exactly what they had planned on doing.

A few more of these important tactics and perhaps they could pull away and get some distance in-between the two team's current scores. Pushing himself a bit further ahead on his School Broom, the first year grumbled and would have to tell his parents to upgrade his broom as quick as he possibly could. With a better broom, he'd be able to truly mop the floor with some of his opponents.

Nevertheless, he'd take the win and doing his part in it and focus on the improvements when he was off of the pitch and trying to convince his mom for the newest and best broom that was on the market.

SCORES
40-30
If Aryaan had thought the round was eventful, he had seen nothing at all. Avery, easily Red team’s best chaser had decided to try to play for the Quaffle, instead of hoping to be fed opportunities to score. And with the tension in middle ratcheted upwards.
In the first scrimmage showed different tactics from the red team. Yevgeny checked June (19 vs 19), and Harlan checked Maverick (17 v 17), leaving Avery to easily outfly Angelique with his superior broom and grab a hold of the Quaffle. The Slytherin first year zipped past the French girl; and right shot a goal right past Ginyami beore the older keeper had had a chance to even react.
Goodness, this kid was a right prodigy! Shamsi had to play him sometime.
“RED TEAM SCORES!”
The second scrimmage saw the Blue team prepared to Red team’s strategy. Yevgeny still managed to check June, but Maverick gave Harlan the slip and contested the Quaffle, along with Angelique. Despite their combined efforts, the innate talent of the Avery kid was at full show, as he managed to not only get the Quaffle, but somehow managed to get past both Blue team’s Chasers and attempt a shot, even with Maverick and Angelique hot on his tail. Aryaan braced for a score – the Slytherin boy had not yet failed to put the Quaffle in the goal when he had had a chance.
What happened next was unexpected, though it should not have been. Aryaan had been playing with Ginyami for ages before the older boy had left Quidditch. Where the talent of Ginyami had been obvious as he had managed to pressure Avery before when he was being fed goals, it truly shined now. In a Starfish and Stick maneuver that could have been pro-level (38 on the dice!) Ginyami not only managed to punch Avery’s shot out of the air, but the Quaffle landed right in the hands of one Angelique.
Aryaan couldn’t help but smile. THERE was the Ginyami he was familiar with, the one who would mess with his opponents with a kindly smile on his face. Privately, he would bet that the older boy had let the previous goals in the last round, to make Avery lower his guard. The Blue team could afford it then after all.
Aryaan didn’t have long to privately enjoy this development as blue team made a break for the goals. Angelique zipped past midfield and gave the Quaffle over to June, who lined up to take a shot—
Only to be blocked by Milo. Beater he might have been, but clearly, the Beauxbatons boy was no slouch.
Perhaps the Blue team’s sudden show of teamwork had unsettled the Red team. While Yevgeny still checked June, Harlan made a go for the Quaffle this time. Without having someone check Maverick, the Gryffindor was able to muscle in and grab the Quaffle, and attempted to force his way into the goals. Before he could quite get the shot though, Milo got his hand on the Quaffle, and there was a tussle in the air.
Who would win possession in a contest of strength, the professional sixth-year beater, or the Gryffindor kid? As it turns out it would be Maverick, who twisted the ball and shot it upwards out of both their grasp, before flipping his broom and flicking the ball into the hoops with the tail of his broom. Ingenious use of the broom there. Aryaan had to take notes.
“BLUE TEAM SCORES. Scores even, 30 all”
The fourth scrimmage had Maverick on fire, as he managed to get control of the Quaffle right away (nat 20), but a subtly time tap from Avery and red team had stolen the ball! Avery shot towards the goals like a bullet and made his shot…only for Ginyami to just barely manage to block it. If Avery had been a fraction of a second faster--
Aryaan’s smile grew larger. Was Avery just unlucky there, or was Ginyami back to playing his mind games again?
And so came the final scrimmage of the round. Harlan, probably having learnt his lesson from giving Maverick half a chance was back to guarding him. But it seemed the Gryffindor’s earlier play had sparked some inspiration in June who pulled off the exact same move as the Gryffindor from last round (nat 20), muscling the ball away from her opposition. Was that meant to be a compliment, or a challenge? Whatever it was, the unexpected brawl seemed to catch everyone off guard, including Milo, who hesitated and missed his opportunity as the Quaffle sailed past him and into the goals.

“BLUE TEAM SCORES, 40-30 BLUE TEAM”.

Well. Things had certainly got interesting on the field.

A nother bout left Avery feeling wanting.

He had weaved through their team with ease, spotting openings and paths of attack. Avery had lined up a run, almost predicting what was going to happen as Harlan and Yevgeny engaged with June and Maverick; the two players he knew were of Hogwarts. He timed the incoming collisions, cutting through the air on the broom he had been gifted by his grandmother; leaving Angelique in the air equivalent of ‘the dirt’ as he sailed towards the hoops and took to scoring with relative ease.

He kept up the tempo and took on Maverick and Angelique at once, swooping between them to clutch at the Quaffle and race towards the hoops again; this was a promising sign for a kid that had barely played the sport. It was almost too easy, he had thought. - Curses. Of course he’d have thought that, just as the Blue Team’s keeper smacked his shot off course and changed the tempo of the game in one swift move. After that, there was a disparity between the teams that reared its head; staying as the Red team were pushed to the back-foot.

Maverick had managed to score again, somehow styling on the kid that was defending his teams’ hoops. Avery thought he was much older and that the younger Gryffindor could count his lucky stars, surely it wasn’t skill. He had to pick it up and again he found himself drawn to Mav, who had quickly received the quaffle in the next scrimmage. He whizzed through and yoinked it, not helping himself by jeering at him competitively, in passing:

“Sucks to suck, I guess.” He gave as he raced towards the hoops, this time hoping to sail it past Ginyami and yet it was blocked again; barely but a block was a block, leaving Avery to hover in the air, cursing.

”Come on man!” He said, mostly to himself.

Mav was proving a problem, and Avery encouraged Harlan in checking him for the next reset.

“He’s got a quick grab, but a weak hold!” He said in support as he raced past back to his position, only to see June take the next scrimmage, they were alternating leads and it caught them all by surprise.

“Oh bollocks!” He called out, throwing his hand up in frustration towards his hoops. He couldn’t quite blame Milo, but he wanted to.
