I was thinking that was need some clues to find, but first, the mystery. We can stumble on an object (belonging to Dagger Ember, but we don't know about it) maybe in the Ember library. So, we ask around, and finally deduct that maybe it must belong to Dagger, but there is something suspicious about the object....

Maybe it has a mysterious letter inside it? Something that sounds quite...dangerous or suspicious that we think we should explore a bit more about Dagger and decide to enter her forbidden room.....

It could be one of the necklaces that open?

I think there should be a letter as first clue outside, and it’s a riddle. Maybe the riddle leads them to the next clue that is a necklace that is also outside, hidden in a bird nest.

That's a good idea! Although to make it more natural, we can use a rhyming letter-riddle that is intent to Dagger, not us, but we find it anyway.

Hi! I love the idea with the riddle/ letter! Since the necklace is supposed to belong to Dagger (am I getting that right?) Perhaps there could be a little 'D' imprinted on it?

To find the necklace, they could also first find an old diary/notebook that leads them to the place where it is hidden, with a riddle. Inside the necklace could be the next riddle? - to make sense of why they are searching for the necklace. - or do they just randomly find the necklace?

I don't know if it's a good idea, that's just what came to my mind haha.

I love the idea for a Diary, which Dagger kept.

So, my main idea is that Dagger is part of a gang of dark witches, plotting to murder muggles (whatever, or target for fun, want to be as cool as Voldemort). So maybe, the riddle was meant to be found by Dagger and then as they probably gave her the answer, it was doubtful that anyone else would find it. Or they agreed that she was really clever to solve it.

That could lead us to another clue, making us want to investigate Dagger's room. In it, I propose, will be all fake to lead anyone away from being suspicious - but we find a fake floor board that will reveal the diary.

Maybe inside of it is a portkey that takes them to another location? To a place where the dark wizards meet in secrecy?

Mystery deepens! I would really like to put the idea I to action, but maybe we could keep that for their second-third year as they are too young maybe. But I love it, that's really fun to RP!
