Someone Like Me
Hurt slightly by the girl's words, I frowned and folded my arms, watching her cast spells more out of interest than of envy. My jelly beans grew before my eyes and my trunk floated like a someone lifted it up! My mouth dropped but then I closed it, pretending to be serious and not that amazed by it and looked away. "I didn't read the books in depth, I wanted to wait until I got to class to really get into first-hand..." I pretended to be annoyed but then I grinned.
I laughed when the spell hit me, and I doubled over, my laughter reaching other compartments. Other people looked out their doors to ours but I was laughing too hard to care. After I while it wore away and I went back to normal. I massaged my cheeks, and huffed at my new friend jokingly. "And for a moment I thought you weren't the playful type."
"Immobulus!" I cried, pointing my wand at my trunk. It froze in mid air, but then it fell to the floor a moment later. I shrugged and then pointed at the photo of my family, my eyes narrowed in concentration. "Accio!" The photo flew into my hand dainty.
I sighed while looking at my family again. "I mostly looked in the book for Herbology and Fungi. I really want to learn more about plants, and the strange creatures I'll see out here. Back in Ireland some very interesting creatures roamed the woods and I sketched some in my notebook." I reached over to my trunk and pulled out a worn black book. Inside were sketches of a lot of things, from people to creatures to random things like food I ate. I flipped to one page but hid it from Regina's view.
I gazed up at her cautiously. "What I'm about to show you is something I've never shown anyone else, not even more Grandmother or my father, both who I rarely keep secrets from." I hesitated for a moment but then went to sit next to Regina. I made sure not to touch her in case she was uncomfortable. I slid the journal into her lap and showed her the sketch. It was of two people of Asian decent.
"Ever since...forever rr, really, I've had nightmares about my parents. They would always have been surrounding me with other strange people, walking in a circle while chanting strange things. I only know that my parents were there because even though they all had cloaks and masks on, my parents would take off their mask and come forth, and pick up me. They would cuddle me and things like that but then everytime I see they would throw me into the fire. Yet I survive and everyone starts screaming." I feel a tear go down my face.
I look up at Regina sadly. "I think that my parents were trying to sacrifice me to their God and it didn't work. That's why they think I'm possessed." I sit back in the seat exasperatedly. "I just don't understand how I survived. Babies can't say spells."
I never lose. Either I win or I learn.

Someone Like Me
Regina felt her new companion was bringing out a new side of her that she never showed; empathy. As she stared solemnly at the unmoving picture (of course, a photo that was taken by a Muggle amera after all), an emotion of sadness flickered in her orchid eyes as Jessica continued on with her dark past.
The raven-haired witch didn't understand, why did Jessica put so much faith in someone like her? Regina was used to be treated as a manipulative egoist by outsiders, considering she came from a pure-blood wizard family, and it was exactly one of the reasons for her wariness and trust issues towards people. Yet, this Jessica girl confessed a dark secret that she had never told anyone else before, not even her own adoptive family, to a complete stranger she just met on a train?
Regina stared at the ground, perplexed. She had never believed in companionship, but she didn't like the sorrowful expression on Jessica's face. She was at a loss, never in her life had she thought of how to properly cheer up a person who was suffering from a sad memory.
"Well, you might probably never heard of this given that you're a Muggle-born, but it's confirmed that Muggles can't kill wizards or witches by burning them." Regina stated thoughtfully, before taking a last look at the old family picture of the Asian couple. "It's not uncommon that Muggles are afraid of wizards because we have the potiential of unbelievable skills, far beyond their imagination. But here in England, the relation between the two races have been remaining in peace for a lot of years. Your birth parents negliged the fact that the magic world exist, so they believed you're a demon, which I find utterly ridiculous and horrendous."
Regina gave the book back to its owner, pleased that Jessica respected her personal space and didn't invaded too much of it. The noble witch maybe unapproachable and distant, however she decided that perhaps she could make an exception for her new companion; after all, she found it would only be fair if Jessica knew more about her own background too. Regina never liked admitting her insecurities, but strangely enough, she felt that she could fully trust Jessica after everything the girl had told her.
"You know, I've had my fair share of ups and downs before enrolling in Hogwarts too. The reason why I try so hard to read every single one of the school books and practicing spells even before going to lessons? Well, it's no surprise that I'm trying to do only the best since I'm the youngest of my siblings. Living in someone else's shadow is not all fun and tricks, when you're born in a prestigious pure-blood household who expects nothing less from the next generations."
Regina sighed heavily, her orchid eyes staring into the void, her voice came out in a whisper.
"Of course I'm the dissapointment of the family, of course my brothers are more brilliant than me, and of course my annoying sister is better than me. It's hard to live in a house where no one adknowledge the great things you could do."

Someone Like Me
I listened to my new friend sadly, a small frown on my face. The train ride was supposed to be exciting and full of getting new friends but instead it was full of sorrow and disgust for things that happened in the world around us. I've never met a pure-blood before. That interested me. I didn't see what difference it made, and I sure hoped that there were no racial discriminations just because one was pure and one was born from muggles. Right now I didn't care what family Regina came from, she seemed alright to me.
"Excuse my ignorance, but I don't really know much about the culture of the Magic World. My grandmother treated every wizard she met fairly and equally, so I'd like to do the same. And I'm sorry to hear about your family. I kind of know what it's like being treated wrong, even though mostly it was because of my heritage. I don't know why your parents don't recognize that you're just as good as your siblings. I don't think that you're a disappointment at all, even if I just met you. Everyone can be successful, they just have to try." I threw my book back into my trunk and grinned at Regina. She was really nice and I hoped I met more people like her.
"I hope you do well in school, even the best, but even if we're not in the same House, I'm going to still strive to make sure my House gets more points than other. I'm going to try my best in school as well, but my main goal is to enjoy myself. I'll even help you with studies, I aced all my classes back in England and Ireland, even though that was Muggles stuff, but studying helps anything."
I threw my candy and wand into my trunk and went to sit back on my side. Out the window you could see that we were nearing the school. I grinned and looked at Regina. " I think we're getting close to Hogwarts. I can't wait to find out what we can do. I hope that I get into Ravenclaw. What House do you hope to get in?"
I never lose. Either I win or I learn.

Someone Like Me
Regina stared at her new companion, an unusual heartwarming vibe took over her body. How peculiar it felt, and yet why was it so remarkable? She had never enjoyed being in someone else's company, and that was the very first time a girl whom she just met had broken the cold mask she wore, albeit just a little. The corner of her lips lifted up slightly at the encouraging words coming from the enthusiastic Asian.
"Well, it's quite the stereotype in the Wizarding World for pure-bloods to be indifferent towards Muggle-borns, but not all of us are like that. I personally care less about something as preposterous as discrimination. All that matters for me is that the most powerful is worshiped and admired. And that's why I dream to be someone as such. No one would ever dare to think that my skills are weak and worthless." She replied, putting her belongings back in her trunk as the Hogwarts Express reached the clairvoyant and sorcerous nature of the infamous wizard school.
The sun had completely disappeared from the sky, and now it was littered with spellbinding stars and constellations, shimmering along with the enchanting silvery light of the crescent moon. Regina gazed out the window, amazaed by the mythical surroundings. Everything looked better in person than what her brothers had told her countless of times.
"I don't really know...There's a high chance I'll be automatically sorted into Slytherin. My family has always been proud of being purely of Slytherins." Her orchid eyes casted downwards, once again a feeling of doubt clouded her mind as she thought about her beloved Mother. "But my Mother comes from the Barett bloodline, the brave and courageous Gryffindors. It's mostly just an assumption, but I could be sorted into that House because her Gryffindor blood influence me more than it does with my siblings."
No matter which House she would be put in, however, Regina would always ambitiously hold on to her goal of becoming the most vigorous Auror. That was what her heart yearning for, and if there was one important thing Louise Miller had ever taught her, it was to always listen to her heart.
The raven-haired noble witch shot Jessica a nonchalant glance, her face remained her signature distant demaneor even though the supportive look hidden behind her purple hues expressed otherwise.
"Same goes for you, Jessica. You won't find me anywhere noisy with a lot of people around, so keep that in mind."
Regina might not be an extrovert and sociable, however she treated each individual the same way they would treat her, and since Jessica was so thoughtful and considerate, maybe it wouldn't hurt to befriend someone that wasn't so different from her, after all.

Someone Like Me
Jessica thought about what she said. Did she really want to be the most powerful? It seemed kind of hardcore for someone to want to be worshipped, especially at such a young age. From what Regina told her, it seemed like she'd do either well in Ravenclaw or Slytherin, but also Gryffindor. No matter what, she's sure that Regina will do her very best in whatever comes her way, she seems like the very ambitious and stubborn type, just like her. And her thoughts of brilliancy was giving me ideas. Maybe showing how strong and powerful of a witch she was wasn't so bad.
"From what I hear, I think that you have a pretty good chance of getting into Gryffindor, but I think it's more of a fifty-fifty chance. I see qualities of both, if I know any better. I did spend a lot of time reading 'Hogwarts, a History'." She slid a stray hair behind her ear. "And you never know, you might just change while being in Hogwarts, for the better, I hope."
Jessica looked out the window, wondering how her life in Hogwarts would turn out. Would she make more friends than enemies, or the the other way around? And her grandmother had told her about Quidditch and Dueling. She knew that Regina would probably be interested in at least one of those, maybe they can use a common activity to get close, just in case if they weren't in the same House. They were different in some ways, besides coming from different family types. As the Hogwarts Express slowly came to a stop, Jessica couldn't but grin at the thought of a strange but interesting new adventure.
I never lose. Either I win or I learn.
