You can get excited about the future. The past won't mind

Nate had expected it, yet he felt a twinge in the centre of his chest. He had made himself vulnerable and in that moment he hated it. He had shown his weakness, Katherine was his weakness. And even though he had expected a rebuff, it hit him full broadside. Damn it Smirnow. He cursed himself. It should have been obvious to him. It was all just games. Cold games. He should not have allowed anything to heat up inside him, but it was too late. A mistake he didn't want to realise but had to. He swallowed the situation and his expression remained expressionless the whole time. At least he could do that, continue not to let on.
He watched Katherine hugging his friends and he saw the boys laughing at him quietly and secretly. Of course they had overheard and Nate already knew that he would be allowed to listen to it at every meeting for the next few weeks. The big Russian rolled his eyes and tried not to be angry about the whole situation. If it had happened to Nick or Sam, he would be laughing at them just the same. In an affectionate brotherly way.
Before Nate could think about how the rest of the evening would go, Katherine started saying something about her dress. He hadn't really been listening, but he heard his name. Before he could ask what she had said, she grabbed his hand and pulled him towards his room. No question, Nate was annoyed. First she blew him off - Kath 1, Nate 0 - and now she was dragging him around his house that he was helping her with something about her stupid dress. Of course he would help her with anything in a heartbeat, she had him wrapped around her finger, but it bugged him that he had given that power of his.
As she went ahead through his bedroom door, he came after her with his shoulders slumping. "Okay now, where's your dress?" he asked, the slight annoyance in his voice audible. But the next moment came as a real surprise this time, not like the rebuff of a few moments ago. Nate had to stop abruptly just beyond his door because Katherine had not moved on. She smiled at him and looked him straight in the eye. His blue eyes darkened and confused he looked at her. What game are you playing here, Katherine? The Russian asked himself in his head.
But he had no time for an answer. She wrapped her arms around his neck, her hands went to his head and pulled him down to her. He would be strong enough to fight back, any time. But he let it happen. He was too weak to give HER a rebuff. It only lasted a brief second and at the same time it was far too long, but then her soft lips landed on his. Everything he thought and felt after the rejection was forgotten in that moment. He put one hand on her hip, the other on her cheek. He kissed her as passionately as she did.
"A more meaningful one." He repeated her words and raised an eyebrow. He didn't know if he could believe her. He knew they were in her game. Was it really? Was there a heart that beat at least in some small part for him? Or did she just not want to do it in front of his friends? Whatever it was, for that moment he accepted it and listened to her words.
She apologised to him and even though he wanted to believe her immediately, his mind resisted. It was like in his fights, learn from your mistakes Nate. He shouldn't make himself vulnerable like that again. But as he stood there looking into her blue eyes, he couldn't move away. His body took control and both hands moved gently to her cheeks. Slowly he brought his head to hers one more time until his lips met hers. And if it was just a game, for this it was worth the little pain. He placed a loving and gentle kiss on her lips before becoming more passionate, like seconds before.
But before Nate could lose himself in the kiss one more time, a loud voice rang out from downstairs. "YO NATE! KATHERINE! WE WANT TO WATCH A MOVIE; COME ON DOWN!" Nate loosened his grip and let his head fall back against his door. He puffed in annoyance before looking back at Katherine. "Let's watch a movie." He said and led Katherine back downstairs to the large living room. The others had already tidied up the garden and the kitchen and he thanked them for that. He spread out the sofa, got a blanket and pillows for everyone, knowing they would all fall asleep during the movie. Lana was on the left end of the couch, then Nick, Sam, Nate and Katherine. They made themselves comfortable and Sam turned on the movie. Nate had no idea what the movie was, he never intended to watch it anyway. He rolled over to Katherine's side and looked at her. He didn't care if the others were there or not. They were already engrossed in the film, eyelids almots closed. He gave them another five minutes at most, then they would sleep. A soft smile was on his lips, then he pulled her into his arms, laid his head down and closed his eyes.

It must have been quite a move that had ticked Nate off, as when she led him into his room. He had an obviously annoyed tone. But to Kath, she would repay that move with that kiss she gave him. She watched him after they had broken off the kiss, She hadn’t noticed, but she was breathing quite heavily.
That weird feeling that she felt had risen again, those butterflies. Katherine tried to fight that feeling back down, but maybe just for this moment, she could lose herself in that feeling. As they reached for one another into another kiss that contained feelings that Kath didn’t understand.
Just before she could enjoy this very moment, a voice rang from outside. Which had caused her to pull back away, She had clear annoyance on her face, really, out of all the times they could disturb them in. So much for wanting to explore that fluttery feeling, ” Yeah ok”, Kath returned her face back to expressionless.
She was quite pissed, Kath wanted that one moment alone with him. Well guess not, She sat on the sofa and watched the screen on whatever movie they chose, she didn’t focus on a single thing happening in the movie. Kath was probably planning how to murder those three in the most effortless way possible for disturbing them.
The Gryffindor let out a soft sigh as she felt Nate look at her. She looked back at him, it was nice that he wasn’t too pissed off at her move. Kath watched as he formed a soft handsome smile, in return, she gave him a soft smirk. Kath gave in to him as he pulled her towards him, she gave him a hug as she laid her head on his chest and drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, they had all cleared the place and everyone started to leave. Kath took her items and guitar, Kath thanked Nate for yesterday and left with a simple goodbye. It was quite difficult for her to believe that what happened yesterday was real, it felt like a dream. She also thought to herself as she was on her way home, Maybe she should take extra care and have her guard up for anything.
Having such simple feelings was unfamiliar territory for her, it was rare she had them. Those weird butterflies start to form around him. Maybe she just needed to shake them off for now and try to control herself. She was going to look forward to the next time that she would meet the Russian boxer.
Happiness can be found even in the darkest times,If one only remembers to turn on the light.
